The only way to have any reliable protection from Confuse is Break Frees. You can't cover a whole league with Steamy Mist, Clarion doesn't last long enough, and leadership only affects teammates.
Weird, when I was in the leagues (on EI) that had 4-5 clarions (not sure if all were t4 but...), I never got confused once. Maybe because the leader said "don't use clarion until you get confused"...*shrugs*

Usually everyone is huddled up so Steamy Mist/etc can cover the whole league...and maybe have people split into even teams so that anyone that has tactics/etc are in each team and not have 1 team have all the leadership buffs to themselves...

But that's not what I'd consider the worst part. The worst part is Infection. If its debuffs and the Avatar's attacks are enough to one- or two-shot a Tanker (and not just a regular Tanker, a defensively built tanker with the soft cap from IOs and all the fixins) then what hope does a Scrapper or Brute or Widow have to contribute?
Um, the same as a Blaster or any other AT?

I've done the UG trial three times (on live at least), twice on EI and once on my DA/DM Tanker.

Both times on with EI; everyone was in melee range of the AoH and we had no issues. Well the first run that I was a part of had no issues whatsoever...seriously felt like the AoH was just an EB or something...

The second time somehow the AoH spawned right in the tunnel or something (after the cutscene he was on top of us attacking)...so we were all definitely in melee range and we did have a few deaths from PBAoEs/etc; not a total league wipe but after people either went to the hosp. or got rez'ed, we were fine.

Both times EI never got confused...whether I was lucky or what, I don't know. I think some people reported that they got confused for a brief second or two but...nothing permanent.

Do you know (I don't) if someone cast a t4 Ageless on you, does that help negate the debuff(s) from the AoH when in melee range (maybe doesn't negate them totally but does it help negate some of the debuff values)?
  2. I'll say BABs....although I wouldn't mind seeing Citadel dying...then again; he's a robot (cyborg?) and can always be copied so that would be a lame cop out saying, "he's dead!" then, "he's alive again!"

So I assume they are actually going to kill someone...BABs...maybe Manticore.

And it doesn't help at all with Infection. My Tanker, simply put, cannot go into melee with the Avatar because of it, since if he does, he will die.
You know I was in a UG trial 2 nights ago and I was on my DA/DM tanker (all incarnated out except he doesn't have t4 judgement and/or t4 lore). My destiny power is Barrier.

The trial had 20 or so people total I think; only 1 or 2 had clarion; I think one other only had t1 clarion.

We failed at the AoH because of the confuse/AoE attacks.

But while we were doing the trial; I noticed I was dying in one hit (or two 'one-hit' attacks)..just like a brawl attack from the AoH. I wondered why I was dying in one hit but I never had the chance to look at any debuffs on me.

I also noticed my end. bar was having issues....a part of the debuff I suppose.

I really don't like the escapee phase on BAF with my tanker (because of the confuse and DA not having built-in confuse protection) and I definitely can't do the UG trial without BFs/etc...

I will say, the trials that I've done with my main (EI); he has t4 clarion (was always my first choice) and where there are 4-5 clarions in the league; AoH is easy...takes about a minute for him to die (maybe 2 minutes)...

    Clarion ftw

And I don't see what the big deal is; Keyes "requires" more healing; ie Rebirth; my main has plenty of Rares/threads so I made a t4 rebirth when trying to get the Keyes' badges...now Clarion is more useful.

Will I ever kick anyone from the league (if I'm the leader) if we don't have clarions? Nope. Will some people? Sure I guess...just like some people would get kicked for not being x or y on a regular team/tf.

In some ways, Ageless would be useful in the UG trial as well. The tunnel with the auto-hit debuff as well as the final battle with AoH...maybe a t4 Ageless will help the tanker(s)/taunters to live?

I don't see an issue really.

And maybe...just maybe....the devs are trying to get away from "I taunt/tank, you guys kill it"...maybe trying to make it more dynamic?
  4. Thanks again

    And thanks for the write-up

I was there for the Ustream for about...5 or so minutes before I went to see the devil....I mean...dentist.
  7. I really wish we could invite our own alts into an SG....or better yet, do the change that they were rumoring to do (maybe not a rumor *shrugs*)...make the sgs do a global invite.

Ie., if I'm in an SG any toon that I create on my account (@Energizing Ion) is automatically added to the SG and not counted towards the 150 toon limit since 1 "toon" would be my @Energizing Ion.

Back in the hay-day, Legion on Liberty had like 3 SGs because we had so many people with multiple accounts with multiple alts.
  8. I'm not sure if they're still run but there used to be weekly runs of the CoP trial every Friday night on the Liberty server.

    - I have never played City of Heroes before the launch of Freedom, though I had been constantly hounded by a friend to join (and so glad I did)
    - My game knowledge is, thus far, quite incomplete so I apologise for any mistakes, I'll just be saying things as I see them.

I was be honest, when my friend first talked to me about City of Heroes, I was amazingly sceptical of the concept. I mean, if you're a super hero who is totally indestructible.. what's the point? Where would the challenge be?

However, I am so very happy to announce that my initial impression was so far wrong I'm almost ashamed. The day since I started my subscription, I have done almost nothing else but sleep, eat and play CoH. The mission story lines are so well put together and linked up brilliantly, it really absorbs you in to the gameplay (my first day, after I'd figured things out, I was so zoned in to the game that I was at my computer for 19 hours before I realised that the time had... gone).
The combat was amazingly sluggish for the first few levels (because I only had my short range origin attack, a power move, a toggle support move and brawl) but that very quickly changed so that, by level 8, I could seamlessly chain together a deadly barrage of attacks.
The sewer trial is a lot of fun. Fast paced, the right level of challenge for a new player and an excellent way to make friends, however I'd love to see this trial fit in somewhere with one of the main story arcs.
The graphics are amazing (ultra mode everything maxed, baby) and I do wonder exactly how much time and effort went in to the coding of those capes, as they seem near perfect.
The character customisation is excellent. There are only a few games (which I won't name) that I have played with a more in depth character editor. I spent about 3 hours in my first character perfecting his looks before unleashing him on Paragon.
Another thing I totally adore is the shared power pools. Once I hit level 4 and learn that "zOMG I CAN FLY" I seriously made a noise like a schoolgirl finding out her crush likes her >.> . I have never played an MMO before where the exploration was so open
The badges are awesome. I've spent a good few hours flying around just looking in totally obscure places for explorer badges. I also hear that getting a certain set of badges awards you "accolades" or some such thing, which in turn unlock extra powers
The task forces are... a grey area for me. They're brilliantly put together but some are just way too long seeing that, unlike missions, you can't just log off and log in later and carry on.
I have already covered my opinion of the tutorial in another post, however I'll give a short version: I think it should teach you a little more while still keeping the same fast paced atmosphere. If a player doesn't know what they're doing by level 10, especially F2P (not really the same when you subscribe and pay to be able to play) then chance are they'll just quit and go off to find another game.
Another thing that genuinely surprises me is lack of a global chat channel, or server wide chat. (most people seem to use the help channel for this, but that's not it's main purpose)
The true make or break for ANY MMO, however, is it's community and, I have to say, you guy are totally damn amazing. Usually new players are met with hostility/indifference/"I'm better than you" attitudes but in CoH I feel welcome, there's always someone patient enough to answer my never ending questions about what to do

    Story Arcs: 10/10
    Gameplay: 9/10
    Combat System: 9/10
    Archetypes/Powers/Power Pools: 10/10
    Graphics: 9.8/10
    Character Customisation: 9.9/10
    Tutorial: 5/10
    Community: 11/10 ( )

All in all, I give City of Heroes a 9.5/10.

I love this game, Paragon Studios. You have yourself a totally loyal and submissive new follower.

    Welcome

There are a lot of great people here...a lot of us "old folks" here that have been here since the start so always ask away!
  13. Yep, I'd say Master of the Keyes trial is the hardest.

I thought the UG trial would be harder to get the Master of badge but...nope..surprisingly I'm glad it's not hard to get (beyond some coordination from people).
  14. I lost badly this (past) week in 2 out of 3 FFB leagues I'm in. 1 was really bad score; the other I missed by like 4 points

Darn Vick getting injured, plus other people that just didn't show up like I expected them to (ie. Antonio Gates).

That's okay, with SD playing KC this week...hopefully I'll have some beautiful stats with Phillip Rivers at QB

Taking advantage of things to their max/limit isn't an exploit.

I still say that the devs should think about just limiting how much xp you can get in x amount of time. If they just put a hard cap and say, "can only get, let's say, 3 levels during a 24 hour period", bam...pl'ing solved.

But of course that won't happen because there's no way to tell what's from just being on an awesome steamrolling team and a pl.
  16. Well I haven't watched the episode yet...sometimes getting my parents hooked on a TV show with me has its downsides (mom only wants to see it with me and dad at the same time)....which with my night shift schedule, Saturdays

Although I'll see if I can change that after this season opener...we'll see....didn't read any thoughts/reviews on the episode yet so....*hides eyes from spoilers*

I only did the villain arc, I don't really have any heroes higher than level 10, I always get bored of the hero side of things at about that point. But the villain arc was fun, the little surprise at the end made it worth playing through even if it HADN'T been a blast in and of itself. I haven't really played many Task/Strike forces or anything, and I soloed this one, but it wasn't excessively difficult, and it was fun to play through even as a sad lonely old geezer (Surrounded by Zombies.)

I'm looking forward to the next in the series. Not least of all because I've been using the name Kal Alastor online since sometime around the early 90's... That ghost stole my name!

I'm one of those that like the current Granite Armor look.

Would I like to be able to customize it? You betcha'....but...one or the other? Hmm....well....*shrugs* would like to see what the other option is before I say yes to it.
