  1. I'll join in with the others in saying, "could you have at least waited til part # 5 was in the game?"

    *shrugs*

It's just absolutely god awful. I did win it this time (I am around 2 out of 8 wins) but the ONLY reason I would be willing to play this again is for the less grindy slot unlocks.

May I ask do you (did you) have a leader that knew what to do and was communicating that to others?

I know I don't fully understand all the mechanics as far as the AV attacks go but...it's "not that hard." (not trying to belittle you/others)...

I will say, when leading a UG; I have all taunters (tankers/brutes/etc) go and taunt the AV and everyone else attack the AV from behind. Works 99% of the time really well.

Although the last UG I ran; for some reason we were having lots of issues with the 2 AVs after the trap room. Finally I just asked everyone to attack from behind while only 1 of the Tankers taunting the AV(s).

Once I said that, it seemed like the 1 Tanker was able to position the AV (mainly the 2nd one, Lichen-Infested War Walker) so that it wasn't using Lethal Force Authorized on the whole league. When all the taunters were taunting it; it seemed to be stuck in the back corner of the wall and was facing everyone.

We barely beat the 2 AVs (had like 20 or 30 seconds left on the timer heh!).

I will say that the Avatar (UG in general) is a bit binary still...you either have enough Clarion/Tactics or you don't...

There would be no obvious way to fill a deficiency, and no obvious way to improve relative to the content in the general case. Even if the system worked perfectly, its that very perfection that would permanently lock you at a very specific threat balance relative to the team. And you can't easily work around that with linear difficulty scalers.

This is really not even an easy problem to express the desired behavior for, much less create a system capable of delivering it.

Indeed, and this is my last post about this since it's a bit off-topic, and I know you're much better at the math than I but...

Maybe a possible solution (to your issue that you bring up) is to have NPCs that you can add to your team (like Guild Wars/etc); when you add an NPC (and you chose the "tank" NPC); it knows not to continue to increase the difficulty? *shrugs*

I know there are tons of variables but...I was mainly thinking of what I said in regards to solo play...in teams...meh, "deal with it" like all MMOs do now.

So... What is being said is that either the developers are extremely bad at math (something I'm beginning to think) or that the perk for being a VIP means a player gets charged 3x as much as a regular customer.
Or like what GBE said; people may use them when they are a tier 9 VIP with "nothing" left to spend points on...

At the moment I have 3 tokens doing nothing...would I use one on the random packs? Probably not...but...maybe *shrugs*

    It's just another option.

And thanks Zwill for the update/communication!

But I suspect that it would require too great a leap in design innovation to implement something like that.

Yep; you hit the nail on the head.

I even brought this up when I was playing AC2 (on a fan site's forums)...people complaining about missions/etc being too "easy"....well, how can anyone make content that is hard for the "min/maxers" but not impossible for those "I just felt like taking all the heals in the game and no attack powers" toons?

At some point, I think, there will have to be some sort of dynamic where once you accept a mission (or whatever) it "scans you/your toon" and sees that you have all heal powers and 1-2 weak attack powers...maybe then you'll get either less enemies or maybe you'll get more "heal/rescue" type of missions/quests.

Whereas, if it sees that you have a lot of debuffs/buffs/control you'll get a diff. type of mission and/or more mobs (or higher lvl mobs/etc...).

Who knows if and when it will ever happen but...I think that would be nice.

    Hey Y'all

    Hi and welcome back
  7. Just reading a few posts and what I saw were two things:

1.) Don't like waiting for a team to do a specific trial

2.) Don't like failing because of, either, your actions or someone else's actions

Obviously I only know "my" server's times/ability to do iTrials but usually any time late at night (for us US East Coasters ) you can get any iTrial going.

I'm really glad that I see people wanting to do a TPN/MOM; heck even more people do Keyes and UG now! More than just 1 or 2 people leading them and we have more leaders actually leading the UG trials.

Sure some days/nights might take a while for things to get started but overall they form up fast.

And to be devil's advocate...don't you have to wait for TFs/SFs to form? Sometimes I've had harder times getting a, let's say, Numina formed than an iTrial.

As for # 2; well I can't say too much beyond, "keep at it." Like I said earlier, at first there were about 2 leaders (one of them being me) leading the UG trials.

Did we fail at sometimes because people didn't listen and/or we didn't have the right type of ATs/power combos? Yes.

But now that people have grown accustomed to it, there are more people willing to lead UGs and they've even been successful!

Don't feel "bad" about causing a wipe/deaths or what have you. I know I've caused plenty of deaths (not intentionally....well maybe a few (sarcasm people!)) but you just have to keep trying to get better.

You don't quit the first time you fail at something do you? Yes, others may be "mad" at you but...well, again, I just "know" the people on Liberty and...frankly they're too nice; especially in new trials; stuff happens, people didn't see the last instruction(s) for whatever reason. *shrugs*

Now if people yell at you or whatever....either ignore them or /petition for harassment (if it calls for that of course). Some people are jerks no matter what.

If people are failing the trials on purpose then take note of who it is (right-click player's toon and "Add Note"). Possibly even /petition against them. *shrugs*

If iTrials aren't your "thing" then fine...whatever...just don't go "bad-mouthing" it to other people (new or otherwise); meaning, if someone says/asks, "who wants to do an iTrial?" and you respond, "iTrials are stupid and are NOT FUN, don't do them!" ehh...yeah; keep that to yourself I'd say....

    Anyways...

Heh in our group last night Caleb was "trolling" us...he was spawning almost every time (ie., once out of the 3 nightmares every time).

The last three that took "forever" to spawn were:

Lichen-Infested War Walker, Crystal Titan and Lunaruu with Lunaruu being the biggest holdout for us.
  9. Woohoo!

My main, EI, is now all done badge'ing yet again

EI now has 1304 badges muwahahaha!

Got both the Master of TPN and Master of MOM trials tonight/this morning.

Lunaruu was the hold out on the MOM nightmare badge for me, and most others.

    ...

You can't taunt the AV out of the pink patches? I saw someone do that in my last MOM trial run...worked beautifully...

Or you don't have any ranged attacks by chance? Yes less chance of this but...*shrugs*
  11. No real issues for me. Still find all the trials fun to a point.

TPN is 'meh' to me but it's not boring/etc...

I feel sorry that people have bad experiences with the trials because of bad leadership (or no leaders at all).

Most trials will always be harder when they first release; if the leaders don't communicate what to do and when/etc....then yes I can understand why you may not like 'em.

I don't understand the "AT bias" argument. The AV(s) can be pulled away from the pink (or blue in the Apex TF) patches by taunting it....ta-da!

If the pink patches only spawned 'on top of' the AV then I can see the anti-melee bias but the patches spawn everywhere and not just in melee range.

The one and only thing that I wouldn't mind (and would be an advocate for) is for some NPC that you can go to that explains everything. From TFs/SFs to the iTrials.

And not just text explanations (well for TFs/SFs maybe since those are pretty straightforward) but a video drive-by of what to expect in an iTrial. I never really understood why MMOs don't have something like that in their games.

"You want to know what to do in this iTrial?" Oh, go look online...o_O That "breaks immersion" and usually the information isn't even on the company's website...it's on a fansite (but in our case it's on the forums here or possibly paragonwiki).

If there was an NPC that showed some video clips/documentation on what to do/what to expect and what it looks like I think there wouldn't be as much of a need for a "great leader."

You'd then possibly have the opposite effect, "I know what to do, follow me!" "NO! Follow me, I know what to do!"

    Edit:

I somewhat agree with AkuTenshiiZero too. The whole game (even the itrials) are "easy" and anything that isn't "tank and spank" somehow people get lost on.

I know people still die from Marauder's Nova Fist attack. Really?! Come on people it says, "back away!"....just back away for 5 seconds...sheesh Worst gimmick I think (the Nova Fist attack that is).
  12. Updated the strategy a bit...still not perfect but gives people a general gist of things.

    Maybe even...the Teen Titans..?!?

And this is how the rushers/exploiters (yes not really exploiting the system but...) get rewarded...they get "kudos"....

When do regular joe-shmoe heroes get "kudos"?

And don't give me the fake, cruddy version of "thanks buddy"...

So how did you know a dev was playing their personal account?
  16. I have not been able to do a TPN trial on live yet

I've done three MOM trials though...

Ah well, hopefully this weekend will fix that issue (and get EI more badges!)!

    Edit:

Oh and thanks for the write-up; I did a write-up myself but I like the 'blitzing' that you do...not a bad idea.

Thanks for listening and making "most" of us happy
  19. When I had the Atomic Blast power on my Kin/Rad Defender I liked it a lot!

FS, Irradiate, Transfusion (if needed), Atomic Blast, kablaam!

AB does do a hold (won't hold bosses by itself)...mag 3 I think...so it gets minions/lts....which was always nice for me.
  20. I think you have to have completed the MOM trial at least once then you can farm the nightmare badge correct?

I've failed the MOM trial 3x now and don't see any badge indicator on my toon that's been on it 3x.

Oh it happens alright....don't know how/why exactly but...I know it happens
  22. Well I answered my own question...

You can swap destiny powers out in between phases (except from phase 4 to 5 of course).

So if I had to choose which Destiny powers are best for the MOM trial I'd say:

Barrier (helps with the +res to not die from the pink death patches for those slower peeps )

Rebirth: To help heal all that damage!

Clarion: Mainly for phases 4 and 5

Hehe, don't worry Freitag; I'm with ya (well not on the Back to the Future thing and not knowing who Michael J. Fox is/was)....

But I haven't seen about 90% of the movies people have listed (incl. Zwill's post).

And I'm not into scary/horror flicks either

I remember one of my friends was all about the Blues' Brothers movie.

I get the impression that some people don't even bother to click the little ? sign in the trials' objective windows to find out what to do at any particular stage either.

    Eco.

Nope unfortunately once people see that "tank and spank" work, they keep trying to do that even if they keep failing....and then after they fail for the 10th time they say, "this trial stinks! lulz....let's do a BAF/Lambda!"

I really like the MOM trial; kind of wish more were like it in the regards that there is a "cool down" where the league leader can explain what's next and what not.

Oh and yes...I saw the thread title and was expecting certain posts/replies...and...let's say, "done in 1."

    Edit:

Oh and, I asked in my strategy guide on the Liberty forums but I'll ask here too...

Does anyone know if a toon that has 2 Destiny powers and is doing the MOM trial; if you have, let's say Rebirth slotted/activated and then after a phase, can you wait 5 minutes for the cooldown timer to expire and then swap out Rebirth for Clarion?

I figure there's nothing attacking you, no rush (time wise) so...maybe you can do so? Only thing that would stop it would be an "ouroboros" zone thing that's attacking you preventing you from doing so....

Going to try tonight if I remember.
