Absolutely not. The system we have now allows everyone to be a controller and mez people. We need mez protection back.

Unfortunately, I don't know what that mechanic is.

The middle ground for mez effects was always either play a melee character or team. Melee characters needed a buff to their mag protection, but the old system was pretty good. If you didn't have protection native to your character, bring breakfrees or team.

Not a bad idea - assuming we ever get CoH 2.

I'm still really against the whole idea of tangible rewards for MMOs strictly set on time payed. I would much rather have a system where you get tokens ever 3 months or something that can unlock specific items. They could be in-game related or out of game related. You could possibly redeem them for some CoH gear from the store, or maybe a badge. Maybe you could get a certain power or costume. Every three months, you can start a new concept character. With the system they have now, you might have to wait 3 years to start the concept character you would want.

I can see why people want to buy these vet rewards...but they're just going to have to deal with it. Its not going to happen without pissing a lot of people off. In all honesty, it would probably piss off more people than it would please.

Just in case anyone whose keeping score can't tell from my posts (If anyone cares what my take on this issue is), you can throw me in the /no crowd.
  5. I'm reformatting the PC tonight.

Word to the wise. If a website is on google's website blacklist, don't ignore the red page and enter it anyways. Even if you are semi-competent, some of the creative **** coming out now is really hard to get rid of and sometimes, its not even worth the time.

at least its stupid enough to let knoppix load so I can get my files off.

If I get done quickly enough, I might actually play tonight
  6. Its funny to see another one of these threads pop up only to be tore to shreds.

Definitely don't want to allow purchase of vet rewards. They definitely need to stop doing more vet rewards because its starting to get to the point where there are certain ones that people probably won't be able to get - Due to the game being fairly old.

I kinda feel bad for the people who just found the game a couple months ago because they weren't around for the previous doses of marketing. But, at the end of the day, you will get the rewards eventually.

Making vet rewards one of the top reasons you play games is going to really disappoint you if you are just now starting to get into any game that has been established for a while - that's the main reasons I hate vet rewards in general.

That's what these guys are really whining about. They don't want to wait. They'll confuse the issue and try to make it seem like it's about the cash but it isn't. It's never been about the money. It's about being impatient.
Again, playing devils advocate here, How does someone else having the reward quicker diminish the reward for you?

Most of the people I have seen on the boards that are against allowing people to purchase vet rewards come off as elitists not wanting people in their club. What does it matter who has what vet rewards?

Some people can't afford that comfort. The reasons I don't have several vet rewards was because I couldn't afford to keep pay for a game that I wasn't playing during given periods.

Just a general question to people who hate the idea of microtransactions for vet rewards:

If you have no problem with people paying their monthly fee and not even playing the game, what the difference if people pay an upfront cost for vet rewards? Does it really matter that someone has something that you feel only a small number should? or is just bad precedent?

I'm sort of playing devil advocate, because I disagree with the idea of microtransactions in general, but I would like to hear your thoughts.

This is actually true in the Real World as well regarding just about everything.

You're the one with the complex who thinks you have the right to be as good as everyone else, despite the time and effort they have put in and you have not.

I agree the more effect you put into something, the better you become. But Time paid, expecially in a video game, shouldn't be a contributing factor.

When it comes to vet rewards, Im always on the opposite side of most people here. Most people think of them as added shinies that are good incentive for people to stay. I see them more as an unattainable goals for myself and would be factor against me continuing to pay for the game, albeit a small factor.

Now these people will normally ask not to be buffed when playing on a team with someone who has those powers but people are forgetful and when they get into a routine may well end up buffing them accidentally. In that situation why shouldn't they have the ability to opt out of the buff?

Additionally there are people who enjoy griefing events (particularly costume contests) but casting costume obscuring buffs on participants.

We already have an option to prompt before being teleported and both resurrection and Mystic Fortune have an automatic prompt. Why not add a "prompt for all ally buffs" option (exclude abilities that are purely healing). Yes it would be frustrating for a player to have to click on every single buff screen that gets cast but for players where certain buffs make their game unplayable I think it would be a godsend.
My answer makes me sound like a jerk - which I am to a certain extent - but I try not to be sometimes

The biggest issue I have with /remove or /no buffs is what happens if someone removes Fortitude or Adrenaline boost? Those are long charging buffs and I wouldn't get the power back if I cast it (Just like the rez doesn't recharge instantly if someone doesn't take it). For instant cast powers, I can live with it but Id want to know who is /removing or blocking buffs before I team with them. (Here comes the part where I look like a jerk)

I play a lot of buffing characters, I buff first, then I will attack when I can. I try to be always up-to-date on my buff orders to make sure the team operates at peak efficiency. If someone has a power blocked, lets say SB. I would cast it, not see the animation, cast it again because I might have mis targetted, not see the animation, Then I have to type to see if they have power blocked. My whole flow is ruined. (Again, remember, big jerk here). So I would rather not team with people who would use such a feature.

I would totally support a "No-non-team-buffs-in-areas-where-raids-aren't-held" meaning that if I were in AP or Peregrine Island and I didn't want to receive non-team buffs (Drive by SBs/sheild/etc) or I was in a costume contest and I didn't want to be griefed, I could turn that flag on. But when you're on a team, I feel you need to take the bad, with the good, and personal preferences tags shouldn't interfere with the rest of the team.
  12. I think I have discussed this all that I can really, I think at this point we might just need to agree to disagree.

Having been in the scene, both old PvP and new, I cannot see a benefit of another power over hasten or CJ - just can't. There might be other powers that I can equally substitute, but it wouldn't matter one way or the other.

I think the PvE benefits of this power make this completely broken, but PvP is a different animal - always has been. Its just not that big of a deal In my opinion.
  13. Although I am very indifferent on the benefits of this idea, I am against really compromising on it.

From the very begining, this should have been an All or Nothing change. This should have NEVER been a vet reward. When compared to other vet rewards, this one is the cream of the crop in terms of gameplay.

So, I would say that this should either be changed so that Everyone can get this benefit; new and old players a like and a different vet reward should be put in its place. It can be a cool power like assemble the team or blackwand, but not something that completely restructures the game.

Doing this change JUST for PvP though, Im not seeing the benefit.

I don't have the new Mids, but I think I get the idea of what you're going for. Again, I don't want this to turn into a flame war or anything.

You mentioned the APP hold or another power. As a stalker, Im thinking of a reason why you wouldn't want hasten. Your phase is down longer, which means less time actually PvPing - Unless you are really big at base camping until phase is up. But Fishy/epic snip is longer recharge.

The only reasons I can think of for Not wanting hasten would be extra set bonuses. But even then, your set bonuses should be geared toward +HP +Rech + Dam in that order. Im still not seeing it.

It is completely possible that we have two completely different methods for building characters and we prioritize things differently. Im NOT saying your way is wrong or bad in any way, I just wouldn't do it the way that you are there in that example.

Most of my builds come from hours of trial and error on what DOESN'T work well together. And I can't even fathom why a stalker would not want hasten.

Which is why zones has been and always will be the training grounds for the arena. You can't measure your skill unless everything is balanced, which the arena can offer.

Lets say, for example, the devs do allow a microtransaction for this vet reward only. You might get it and be happy, but I would never purchase something like this. So the imbalance is still there.

Yes, hasten is bomb-diggity. But for some builds it can be unneccessary.
Just to keep this as a discussion, I would completely disagree. It could be how we think about PvP builds in general, but there isn't a build out there that I wouldn't want both Hasten and Phase shift. If I need phase, I need hasten too its that simple. Granted, Im a little out of practice when it comes to building, but of all the builds I did, These were the standards:

    Non KB protection:
    Hasten/SS
    CJ/SJ/Acro
    Hurdle/Heath/Stam

    KB Protection:
    Hasten/SS
    CJ/SJ
    Hurdle/Heath/Stam

Could you post a build that you think would be beneficial to not have Hasten or CJ in?
  17. Also one more note:

Had this been put into effect with PvP 1.0, Im pretty sure that the leaders would have made an ammendment to the rules stating that you had to have the level 6 power if you were going to use that pools travel power. Its a simple thing to check and it keeps the matches as balanced as possible.

If that old vocal crowd could deal with a problem like this, Im sure you can too.
  18. I remember this debate when this vet reward was introduced. Most of the vocal PvP crowd had already left or this would have been brought up before with a lot more noise (Not that it would matter, but it would have gotten a lot more attention)

Here's the take from a once hard core PvPer:

Reasons why this Vet power sucks - there is only one reason:
    1. It adds an added benefit to a person based solely on the point that they have paid for the game longer. Two people of equally skilled playing ability can't have a match to determine who is better because one person would have an added advantage* (See below point before you QR)

Reasons why this isn't really a big deal:
    1. (Captain obvoius) This vet reward only effects four powers; SS, SJ, Fly, TP
Lets look at all of these:
    Speed
    Hasten/Flurry
    Super Speed
    WW
    Leaping
    Jumpkick
    Combat Jump
    Super Jump
    Acro
    fly
    Air Sup.
    Hover
    Fly
    Group Fly
    Teleport
    TP Foe
    TP Friend
    TP
    Group TP

Of these four powers, there is only one power in the level 6 range you wouldn't want for PvP - and that's A.S. or Hover from the flight pool. But you also wouldn't want the level 14 power for PvP either. Fly has always been the worst travel power for PvP because of its slow speed and even the buff to -fly protection doesn't even help make it more attractive. You could also argue that you just want TP as an escape power for PvP and skip TP foe, but with travel supression this is pretty much a pointless power as well.

In Conclusion, this is really a non issue. Im totally against vet rewards that are game changing -And you are free to disagree with me that this is not game changing, but I think it is - But this isn't THAT big of a deal.

In the old PvP, I probably spent more hours thinking about builds for PvP than most people. I can't really think of a build that would benefit from having one extra pool power. Think about it: You're gonna take SS for hasten and horizontal movement, You're gonna take SJ for Vertical movement and Knockback Protection and your going to take fitness for End recovery and Numina sets. That leaves one extra pool power. Most are going to choose concealment for Phase, but you might choose Leadership for Acc/Dam, you might choose fighting for resistance/def...Hell, I would even choose the medicine pool for Stimulate before I picked Fly/TP for PvP.

Knockback doesn't really bother me as long as its a power doing good aoe damage. Bonfire and tornado users do tend to get annoying however, but thats only if nobody is using aoe immobilize cages. You can control alot of the annoying knockback powers by having a competent controller spam the AOE immobilize cages. (some power sets don't apply)
/No to the menu option to lower knockback, just like a big /no to speed sliders /no to removebuffs and /no to block buffs

And team leaders already have a kick button - there is no other control you need if a team member is 'messin up your flow'

Id agree that it was shut down quickly, but I don't think it was the PvP that caused that. I think it was just an unfinished zone that they didn't want let out.

If I was able to go back, I would have liked to fraps some PvP matches to show areas that I think were better in 1.0. It would be nice to give, not only written reasons why we think certain changes should be made, but actually video footage of how certain things worked. putting two zones side by side, even for a weekend, would show the community that you really want test out and get real suggestions on changes, rather than hamstring in tweaks to the current system that might not be best for PvP as a whole.
  22. EmpireForgotten

    Tweaks and fixes

Do you guys remember on test when that bugged zone went live - I don't know what zone it was, but it was completely unfinished? It had PvP flags set for heroes and villains, but was PvP 1.0 ruleset.

PvP 1.0 ruleset still exists in the PvE world, can we get a zone setup maybe with this flag set? What this would do is allow us to compare PvP 1.0 and 2.0 together apples to apples.

We could actually get some real data like "This is what works in the old system - does it work in the new system? No? Why does it work in the old system and not here? Is there a way to fix that?" Without the two systems sitting paralell, its very difficult to test and compare the two.

You might suggest just trying to forget about 1.0 and look forward altogether, but, as an ebil conservative, I would never want to forget about your past and the things it did RIGHT just to be able to say "Hey, we have progress see?" I also wouldn't want to completely disregard the work done on PvP 2.0 because a lot of features are pretty slick and could help balance out.
  23. EmpireForgotten

    Tweaks and fixes

Mac suggestion fixes my biggest frustration. If the "Mag 6" Proteciton isnt put in, there needs to be SOME way to allow offensive toggles to stay toggled while being mezzed.

Retoggling hurricane every 10 seconds (2.5+ second animation) is irrirating. Also, the slow cap and the -range cap needs to be lowered. Add a buff to range in a Kin's ID. This would allow Kins to be useful again (+speed to counter slow ID to counter -range). Hey, even allow kins to increase the range of attacks (Maybe half of boost ranges power). You can make it not stack if that would be too overpowered.

The AI for buffing and debuffing is a little iffy so you might want to try mostly Blast/Armor or Melee/Armor. If you're running a team with limited mez protection maybe try a Control/Something set Fro the defender sets you'll probably want the ones with debuff powers. Add some Pet/something bosses (or even LTs). Maybe have a few Blast/Devices with Caltrops, Smoke Grenades and Targeting Drones.

Alternatively try making custom groups comprised of the more problematic members of standard factions. A custom group of Carnies and Malta should give most characters pause.

If all else fails, make a custom group comprised solely of the biggest, baddest meanest EBs you can. Sure you'll get horrible rewards but you can't deny that it would be a challenge.
