  1. The Spirit is totally Noir, but most of the suggestions in here haven't been (Like Statesman in the 40s isn't noir at all). Night Errant used the term "Retro" and I'd say that would definitely be a better fit for the majority of suggestions in here and would be totally awesome to boot.
  2. Aequoropolis lvls 30-35 (or so)

While the Devouring Earth may dominate the majority of the land, the oceans remain vast and untouched, save where Emperor Cole has decided to extend his influence. Enter Aequoropolis: a testament to the ingenuity, brilliance, and determination of the Praetorian spirit. On par in terms of scale with great Praetoria, Aequoropolis is a floating city in the Atlantic Ocean, entirely self-sustaining and independent from any outside resources, thanks to its many gardens and hydroponic facilities.Designed by both Praetor Keyes and Praetor Berry, the city is the result of years of work and Emperor Cole's singular vision.

It is separated into several unique districts: Aequor Proper, which is the seat of the city's government, headed by Magistratum Vidi; the Cobalt Cove, where the richest and most influential families reside; the Blue District, where many corporations have their headquarters and the local TPN branch calls home; the Imperial Gardens are where the city's organic produce are grown in indoor orchards and hydroponic greenhouses, as well as many pristine botanical gardens that citizens from Praetoria travel to see, and are decorated with monuments to the heroes of the Hamidon Wars as well as countless rare and beautiful species of flora; Dock Island is appropriately named as it is a small extension of the city where shis routinely come and go, taking and delivering all manner of cargo, from visiting tourists, to whatever the City at large might need (just because Aequoropolis can be self-sustaining doesn't mean it has to be); and finally, the Water Works, the area beneath the waves, the foundation upon which the great city rests, and where many instrumental engines, filters, and other complex machinery reside. It is rumored that amidst the vast, labyrinthine passages of the Water Works, some Resistance have managed to infiltrate the great city, but citizens should be at ease, as the Works are constantly patrolled by the PPD, tireless Clockwork, and Aequoropolis Security Forces (ASF).

(I didn't include any underwater areas since I don't know what the tech like that would involve, but if it ever gets implemented, would be easy enough thematically to include in this zone(s). And, now, I actually have pictures for this one!

The following are random shots of actual conceptual floating cities that are being designed/were designed/whatever:

And these are pics from the water systems under Tokyo, for drainage and such, that might reflect the Water Works:

  3. I think, at least, the Devs need to cut back on the "both sides friendly" content because then it just waters it down. RWZ is awesome, and Issue 10 was one of my faves, but Vanguard is very much a Hero organization. They want to save the world. By throwing villains into the mix, it means the hero content was less heroic, and the villainous content less villainous. Same with Cimerora.

Now that we have GR and switching sides, I'd like to see focus on each side. Since people can switch now, nobody has to feel left out. For instance, maybe The Rogue Isles get their own type of Rikti-centric area, where Recluse or somebody from Arachnos is working with the Restructurists to take out Vanguard. They'd have their own base and method of transport to the RWZ, so it could still host all ATs, but it would be a different option. Stuff like that. I want my villain to be a real *******! An evil, cunning, malevolent jerk who is out to ruin everybody's day. Not some namby-pamby wishy washy "Well sometimes I rob a bank, and sometimes I rescue Longbow PoWs."

No! Boo! If I rescue a Longbow PoW from the Rikti, it should only be so I can kidnap him myself, and drop him off a building.

    tl;dr
stop splitting your attention and focus on one side at a time.
  4. Idea failure. /unsigned
  5. Good points Bill, and true as well. However, there's no denying that on average the quality and thematic awesomeness of the TFs/SFs has gone up in the past couple years.

    Quoth the whiner.

I agree that Dark Astoria needs to be a priority, but really, so many of the zones in Paragon need to be overhauled or removed. Boomtown might as well not exist. Paragon needs to have a lot of its fat trimmed and get an extreme makeover. Faultline is beautiful now and has a lot of flavor and character to it, and I'd love to see the other hazard zones like Crey's Folly, get a similar treatment. The changes to the Hollows were nice, but I still think it needs a more serious makeover.
  7. There is significantly less villain content, no doubt, but I think what content the villains do have is more polished. The best example I can think of are the TFs/SFs. Look at stuff like Synapse's/Sister Psyche's/etc. TFs. There really isn't much to distinguish them from regular missions except their length.

Now look at the beginning SFs redside: The Binder of Beasts, Crystal Keeper, etc arcs that all had pretty cool set pieces at least somewhere in there.

As the game expanded and Emmert buggered off, the TFs got better (see Statesman's TF, the Cimerora arc, LGTF) but a lot of the TFs blueside are still fairly dull. While I generally think of all the SFs as being pretty cool (and thankfully much tighter in terms of storytelling and mission count).

The ideal solution is this: stop ADDING blueside content and simply REFINE what's there, as has been done with Posi's arc, Faultline, Hollows, etc. Any additional content added really should be put in the Rogue Isles. On the overworld map of the Isles, there's at least a few places that we can't officially travel to, and I really don't think anybody would complain if they wanted to maybe expand and throw another island in or something.
  8. Fly pool has more uses than just thematic purposes. Hover + a blaster, vs a pack of foes who are largely melee=win for blaster. Fly also doesn't gobble END like TP does, and it's a lot easier to get around than with, say SS, where you have to navigate stuff more instead of just pointing your dude in a direction, pressing "R" then letting them go while you get a soda or something. I still like the actual fly power the best for getting around, but I agree that the other powers in the pool need some updating. Speed has the incredibly handy hasten, TP has the equally handy and always practical TP team, and Leaping has the aforementioned combat jumping and whatever that last power is in the set that gives you some other buffs.
  9. The term "noir" you're using and what's being suggested are two separate things. Retro military stuff and classicical formal wear aren't "noir" Noir is a French word for black/dark, and is most familiar for its use in the film noir genre, which usually revolves around lots of gritty detective/crime drama. Bomber jackets, and especially silver/golden age costume ideas are about as noir as Disneyland.

Don't get me wrong! I'd love to see all the things Bill mentioned, and they'd be great additions, but it's not noir at all. Not even a little. When I think noir I think of detective and gumshoe type clothing, most of which is just drab three piece suits (which we have) and a fedora (which we also have), but there is room for improvement.

    Real noir clothing suggestion list:
Waistcoat or Vest as seen HERE and with a double breasted version HERE It is possible to get a kind-of vest using some of the sleeveless jacket option, but those look a bit crap, honestly. Real vests please.
Or a few variations on the trenchcoat, which frankly, we need anyway. Like THIS or THIS
Specifically for ladies, those fancy hats with the veils hanging from the front would be awesome sauce, like THIS.
And something that would be super simple to add, and entirely awesome: a cigarette face option. For the love of Pete. For males AND females please. Just a little ciggy to stick in their craw when they're on the case.

So again, Noir is a really specific term with a very set type of visual theme to it. Just throwing out anything from the 30s-60s ain't noir (especially since, I think noir is usually associated with the 20s. Not sure about that though). The ideas proposed here are still really great and I'd love to see them, but they'd definitely be labeled as something else.
  10. I'm all for new powers, even if they are basically just slight variations of existing sets from a technical/mechanics standpoint rather than a thematic one. however, like beyeajus said, there's other, newer, and more unique ideas for powersets that are probably going to get a higher priority. That said, I'd still love to see a set like this.
  11. So GR comes out in a few days (THREE OMG) and I've been hitting the beta hard because I loves it and all the new story possibilities. I had something of a brain explosion when I was swimming under bridges in Imperial City. To the south (I think) is a bridge that connects to the mainland, and at the end of the bridge is a road. The road leads off, into the jungles of Praetorian Earth, where the wild things are, presumably. That road, and where it might lead, really interested me. So I came up with a few random ideas about what might lie at the end of it, and further away.

Forward Base Gladius aka Fort Gladius Lvl 20-30 (or so)
The sword that strikes back at the Devouring Earth, Forward Base Gladius is both a line of defense and attack against the monsters that threaten Praetoria. It is also a fledgling colony and an attempt to civilize the wilds and reclaim them in the name of Emperor Cole (however, those colonists sent here do not come voluntarily. The colonists of Fort Gladius are little more than indentured servants, borderline slaves, who have earned the ire of their betters and been sent here as a result)

Its military affairs are overseen by Captain Rufus (The names, by the way, are primarily placeholders. They could be Primal Earth counterparts or whatever), and Tribune Strategica Aculeo. The day-to-day handling and assigning of the colonists is handled by Magistratum Gurges, and his chief secretary, Ms. Goodchild.

Smaller versions of the sonic fields that surround Praetoria Proper are also in place around Fort Gladius, though they must be maintained carefully and monitored at all times, as they are not as reliable as the much larger versions around the city.

Not far from Forward Base Gladius, hidden within the trees, is...

The Treehouse lvl 20-30 (or so)

The Resistance, in their efforts to keep pace with Emperor Cole's schemes, have set up their own base amidst the Devouring Earth-infested jungles, though instead of dwelling underground, have taken to the tops of the gargantuan trees instead. With stolen technology taken from the early days of Fort Gladius, the Resistance have set up their own mini-Sonic barriers to keep the dangers of the primeval jungle at bay. A few of the "colonists" from Fort Gladius have managed to escape their cruel enslavement over the years, and while those that did were almost entirely wiped out in the jungle, a small percentage of them managed to find their way to the safety of the Treehouse, and now serve the Resistance loyally.

Jettison is in charge of all the major operations against Cole's forces off Praetoria's coast. Her number two is Quincy, a former "colonist" who managed to escape Fort Gladius and survive a run through the wild jungles to the Treehouse. Those resistance members who are new to the Treehouse should first look up Socket, the engineer who keeps the emitters working, or Cashel, one of the local Resistance trainers.

Both of these zones are relatively small, but connected to the larger zone, sort of like how the Vanguard base is separate, but connected to the RWZ. Both bases connect to...

The Praetorian Wilds Lvls 20-30 (or so)
The jungles surrounding the city of Praetoria are vast and deadly, filled with the ravenous Devouring Earth, and other horrors that survived the Hamidon Wars and the numerous nuclear assaults that all but destroyed the world. The trees that can be seen from Praetoria easily rival the tallest of the great city's tallest buildings, and many of them are home to flora and fauna that would prove deadly to even the most vigilant solider (or Resistance member).

Wide rivers teeming with carnivorous fish cut through the jungle, ending in vast waterfalls that hide labyrinthine networks of caves. The caves are home to creatures not previously encountered by Praetorian scientists, and those who travel there are urged to caution. A canyon, carved by unnatural forces during the Hamidon wars, divides the Wilds around Praetoria in two.

While there are many opportunities for expansion and the potential reward of wealth to be found within the unclaimed wilderness, there are equal amounts of danger and death waiting there as well.
    .............

That's all I got for now. I have a few other ideas that I might throw out if anybody's interested. Cheers.
  12. Both of these sound pretty cool. Especially since somebody was just mentioning in the other thread how we're hurting for a science/mutation MM set.
  13. I've still got my fingers crossed for critter customization on MMs. Yes, you would have idiots and children making Sly McPimpin and his Ho Brigade, but then you do to them what you do to any moron who decides to make a toon named "Kamel Tow" or "Mike Awk" and you either Generic them to square one or delete the character. I see pimp characters anyway, especially since the magic set came out with the snazzy top hats and coats and capes.

C'mon devs. Don't let some runty dummies with the social skills of 13-year-olds stop you from taking game customization to the next level. PLEEEASSEE?
  14. So let's review:

    1) You admit to being too lazy to do any kind of thorough research of your own. Bad.
    2) you imply that anybody who posts with any regularity on the forums has no life. Nice personal touch there.
    3) you admit in the thread title that this idea has already been addressed.

So not only /unsigned, but you're kind of a twit as well.
  15. I agree that CoX has plenty of tech options for a while. I'd say put magic/ancient type costume options at the top of the list for new costume content. Followed by more animal/alien/beast type options. I also wouldn't object to a few more modern-day additions, like when they gave us access to different kinds of blazers, ties, slacks, and dress shirts. Like more trench coat options or something.

Oh and uh, back accessories. For the bajillionth time. I love you devs!

Occam's Razor: simplest answer is usually the correct one. Thanks, brother, this was probably it. I kept checking it for like 2 hours and it wasn't moving, but now it is slowly crawling along, like a a turtle with a limp.
  17. So the NDA has been lifted and apparently anybody who pre-purchased GR (This guy right here, Me) can now get into the beta. JOY. So I follow the instructions posted here on the boards and launch the beta launcher thing. I make a separate folder for the beta, as is advised in the instructions and we're off to the races.

But then it gets weird. Above the download progress bar it says "Fixing files: piggs/sound.pigg" and it isn't downloading anything. The little timer indicator showing how much time is left reads "903865:45:30 Remaining" and the download rate is set at "0B/sec"

My internet connection is fine, and I can log onto regular CoH just like always, sooo...what's going on? Anybody else experiencing this?
  18. So I just got a cool gig that will have me moving to South Korea come September. My question is, can I still play my preferred MMO while I'm over there? I'd be there about a year, so I was just planning on dropping a one year sub fee and not having to mess with it for a while. But...I dunno, I've never lived in another country before so I'm curious.
  19. I had a huge post but dumped it condensed it to this:

Faultline is awesome. It feels like an interactive city, ith buildings and structures I can enter without having to zone (the dam, the elevators, the Arachnos tunnels), cool set pieces (the apartments, the doughnut shop) and a very unique flavor.

I'd like to see more buildings I can go inside of, more unique, zone specific structures (like maybe some huge video screens or some such in Steel, to make it feel like a big, bustling consumer/business part of the city, or some nifty walk-in bars/cafes that cater to heroes and sell insp or something.

At the very least, static, unique structures that are unique to one zone and one zone only, and done in a more organic, natural way like faultline, instead of the pre-existing Skyway/Steel/etc where it just feels like I'm flying in-between huge blocks.
  20. I don't post much on these boards but I figured this deserved a mention.

I joined up with CoX back in 2006, on the Red Side (being a bad guy with robot minions appealed to me more than a do-gooder). I randomly picked the Infinity server and played around with a robot/traps MM solo until I ran into a couple people near Drea the Hook in Port Oakes. These two people were Mitch and Jeanne (their irl names, naturally). Through them I later met Mike, Mitch's brother and Jeanne's husband.

From that chance encounter we terrorized the Rogue Isles, and as one, move to Paragon City and formed the House of Grimple. We ran all the TFs together, created AE mishes about our characters' own mythologies, laughed, cut up, got frustrated, badge hunted, and celebrated anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, promotions, and other things.

Through it all, Mike chronicled every one of our adventures in what he called "Grimple Files." These were awesome collages and short comics depicting adventures in game, and story lines that he made up on his own. Literally every single time we ran a mission with Mike, he'd make a Grimple file, and e-mail it out to everybody in the SG, which grew from just us and our alts, to many, many, MANY more.

Mike eventually turned out 924 or so G-files.

I just found out a few minutes ago that Mike has passed away.

Mike was a friend, and somebody I wish I had gotten to know better. I'd been talking to him via e-mail the past few weeks, and he was gearing up for Going Rogue. He was really excited about the prospects it could bring to his fun creations and story-telling opportunities.

Mike was a leader. He was always the one guiding the SG along, keeping us together, making up extravagant AE missions for us. With him gone, I don't know what will happen to the SG, but it's lost a big piece of its heart now, and it is less with him.

Mike was an artist. Most (if not all) of us here love comics in some form or another. It's why we play an MMO based around comic book lore. Mike wove stories and histories and relationships and betrayals and made the game his own world, and made it richer for those of us that played with him.

And, of course, Mike was a hero.

I'm grateful to the Devs for making this game, without which I would not have met Mike, his hilarious brother, or his wonderful wife. I'm sorry he's gone, but I'm glad to have known him.

    So long, Mike.
  21. Wow, great works Devs! This is truly an awesome, fair, yet profitable way to implement more slots. Way to go, and thank you!
  22. /resigned

    Totally needs to be done.
Customization/being able to stand out is CoX's greatest strength. The ability to make a unique character is awesome, and the more the idea of customization can be applied, the better.
