[BMT of Champion]Shaytanah: listen you slack jawed mouth breather, its no one else's fault you died trying to herd. You're a DEFENDER. Blame your parents for their inbreeding and ask for that missing chromosome for xmas. Don't insult me again--I'm better at it than you.

I remember Mentu :-) Don't call me a 'farmer' tho...I'll do it on occassion for a specific reason, but I prefer exploring content far more (<3 Flashback mishes)

Sorry I didnt mean any disrespect by that. I just meant someone who farms occasionally. I didnt mean to suggest that all you do is farm.
I think this just highlights that many of us have different ideas as to what constitutes a farmer or farming. Furthermore we have different opinions on whether farming was intended to be part of the game or not.
Good luck with your thesis. I dont know how you find time to play at all. I had to leave the game my last two years of college just so I wasnt tempted to put off a research paper in order to protect Kings Row, and that was just undergrad. -
I dont know that it is ever needed. I have a three man SG and we managed to get enough prestige to support a workable base without ever farming. Also I thought the devs did away with the old demon farms? I could be wrong.
There are quite a few farmers who I've enjoyed teaming with and respect, Shay you are one I teamed with you as Mentu, but nothing will ever convice me that farming was intended by the devs. Unless of course they were to come out and say they intended for people to farm. To me it is cheating -
Hi Mighty
I guess I should have chosen my words better. I dont mean that there is only one way to play and everyone should play the same way. What I meant is in any game there are ways earn optimized results. For example TPing under the walls in an Eden Trial is a lot faster and more effective than breaking them down but I dont think that is what the devs intended. I think finding short cuts is kinda cheating. But again we can agree to disagree.
On a side note I do hate when People have numbers on their name or dont capitalize their name, unless its something that fits like eWarrior or Spartan301. -
Hi Stray
You make a good point about farmers increasing supply as well as demand. The problem is that when someone buys a recipe they typically slot it. The recipe and salvage used to craft it are then taken out of circulation. The influence stays in circulation. Additionally recipes and salvage can be sold to shops for set prices, if an items value falls below these prices, marketers will sell to the shop thus removing the item from circulation.
On your farming does not equal exploiting point we just disagree. -
I would be down to give it a try. I've always wanted to take one of those things down
-
I am against farming. I think of it as cheating. You are basically exploiting the game to get rewards faster than you could by playing the game the way it was intended. I dont buy the defenses I often see its advocates bring up.
The first is the My farming doesnt affect you argument. This is false. Farming affects the entire community. There are two major ways farming hurts the community as a whole. 1) Inflation: The influence you get while farming is basically created as you earn it thus farmers are pouring massive amounts of inf into circulation. This in turn means the value of one inf decreases driving up the price of everything. 2) Dev responses: The developers have taken steps to limit farming. Often times these steps hurt the non-farmer as much as the farmer. Weve seen rewards reduced on some enemies, enemies made harder and content removed from AE all due to abuse by farmers.
Second the If you repeat content you are farming. There is a finite amount of content in this game. If you play long enough you are going to have to repeat content. Killing a Giant Monster or fending off a Rikti raid multiple times is not farming, it is playing the game. Is Green Lantern Farming every time he beats Sinestro or The Fantastic Four farming when they thwart Fin Fang Foom? No were heroes (or villains) we defeat bad guys, they come back, we beat them again.
That said I have accepted that we can never get rid of farmers. Most farmers feel they are not cheating and are playing the game their way and see nothing wrong with it. We can argue all day but in the end the two sides just disagree on how the game should be played. I regularly team with one of my RL friends. Whenever he makes a new character he just hits the Random button because he doesnt care what his character looks like, he refuses to do TFs if he wont get XP and he stops playing a character the moment he hits 50 (He doesnt even level up the last time). To him the game is about getting to 50 and thats it. I think his way is crazy but we just dont see the game the same so why argue? -

Hi Everyone
Ive been lurking these boards for a few weeks and decided it was time to post.
With my first post I want to thank the BMT community. I started playing COH in beta and took a few years off to finish school. I came back to the came for the Rikti Invasion and have become re-hooked ever since.
For the most part I was always a soloer. I would occasionally join a PUG or team with my RL friends who play the game but I was never part of a broader community. I would Jump onto MS raids, TFs and GM slayings whenever I could find them, I never had the opportunity to join a Hami Raid. Then a few months ago I joined BMT. Since then the game has completely changed for me. I did my first Hami Raid, do weekly MS raids and am never short on TFs or GM teams.
The main players on this channel are always very helpful and are lots of fun to team with. I consider it an honor to be a part of this community and appreciate all the work of everyone involved.
See you all around
