  1. *pops into the Rookery near the last hour of the weekend*

Booyah! I'm back. For better or probably worse.
  2. My bio usually says, "Somebody needs to tell this dude about paragraphs, yo."

Aside from that, I aim to communicate a bit of my character's publicized past and current activities. Is Emgro spending a lot of time in the RWZ? Then I mention that. Have I pulled a "big job" on a character lately, a tough TF/SF or involved RP piece? That goes in.

As for the publicized past, that usually is invented partially during creation. Emgro is an alien from an unknown world; all people know is his landing on Primal Earth. The Everted has a long and illustrious heroic history. Violet Hayes has a long and generally unknown history since she barely qualifies as a "super" hero.

My habits aside, I feel this thread is informative and helpful for those of us who haven't been RPing online for years. I think a lot of people are interested in RP in CoX, but would prefer to avoid getting sucked into a game of Uno without realizing it.
  3. I have a DM/SD Brute at 50 I could contribute, though DM might not have the martial feel you want.
  4. I haven't been playing CoX for months (well, more like two years) and recently picked up Going Rogue. Looking through the patch log, TA has apparently had a number of tweaks since then regarding power effects and animation times. Are PGA, Flash Arrow, and Disruptor Arrow still toeing the broken line, or improved enough to put them solidly into suboptimal but not worthless?

Also, is there any synergy between TA and DS? If the demons are fragile, do I need a more defensive set?

I'm aware that Dark/FF/Traps are just plain better than TA in almost every way.
  5. I'll be resigning from the static team permanently, due to deactivating my account again for a bit. As a diehard PUGer, there isn't much to keep me in the game, due to the farming fiasco, and honestly, it's as much burnout as anything else.
  6. Update: I won't be able to get Genshiro to lvl 19 in an hour, so I'll log in another hero that's almost level 20 and use them instead.

    Tanker, named Catspaugh.
  7. I should be in attendance tonight. What time are we starting, and what level?

Also, should I prep my Ill/Rad or warm up my Tanker for this?
  8. Genshiro will be absent tonight, due to life.
  9. I'm looking at rolling up a scrapper, and continuing my AV-hunting focus, I'm curious what scrapper powersets are generally good against AVs in general. I've heard Spines has lackluster ST damage, but aside from that I haven't seriously played a scrapper in years.

So aside from DM (already have a DM/SD brute), what powersets and/or powerset combos are reasonably good vs AVs/EBs in general?

And no, Rad/Sonic is not an acceptable answer. Or Ill/Rad. Or Fire/Kin. Strangely, despite controllers having some of the highest DPS in the game, they are not scrappers.

    Pulse Rifle set

    Powers for Pulse Rifle:

    1. Pulse Rifle
    2. Pulsing Rifle
    3. Pulse Rifle Spray
    4. Pointless Secondary Effect Non-Pulse Rifle Attack That Nobody Takes (my suggestion: Sleep + DoT)
    5. Blob of Pulses: Targeted AoE
    6. More Pulse Rifle Than You Can Handle: Strong ST attack
    7. Big Damn Pulse (snipe)
    8. Still More Pointless Attack That Does Minor Damage and AoE KB
    9. Throbbing Rifle Barrage: Nuke
  11. Was on a team the other day with three (3) Fire/Kin trollers.
  12. Happy 4th of July, folks.

    *looks around shiftily*

I'm not actually posting in a Rookery thread, just a hallucination brought on by Cap'n Amazing's hallucinogenic fireworks.

    *disappears in an explosion*
  13. It doesn't count if you use Shivans, nukes, inspirations, Stamina, or powers with an odd number of letters in their name.

Also... Chainsaw SRS? I'm a girl and that made me wince and cover my crotch....

[/ QUOTE ]I kinda twinged a little is that why guys cover themselves if they see someone else get hit?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yep. Most of the immediate pain from that region is psychological rather than physical; getting kicked there has never triggered all that much immediate pain for me, but takes about a minute to sink in. However, the knowledge that the pain is coming can be rather disorienting, hence "sympathy pains" when seeing it happen to someone else.
  15. Frankly, I've had extremely poor luck with finding teams in the game since the AE was created, and while no stranger to all the above suggestions and a few tricks of my own, finding teams in the post-AE world is extremely difficult. Almost nobody wants a mission team for low levels, low being less than 35-40.
  16. And seriously, who names a character after a bat? What's he got, giant ears or something? Likes to crawl in small corners and squeak? Or maybe he spreads rabies to suburban residential areas.

It's the character that makes the name more often than the name making the character.

It's ten dollars and you get to be a transsexual.

I vote this post be stickied and renamed "The Science Booster FAQ."
  18. I wish all my arcs combined had over a hundred reviews.

    Call it griefing.

    Call it pearls before swine.

Or do what I do, and call it enjoyable enough for yourself and your friends, AKA the people whose opinions you care about.
  19. Oh, yeah, Bots/FF Mastermind late at night. It's a challenge to stay awake.

    Does AE need XP?

and on a more amusing note. I challenge any of these "the MA doesnt need xp" types to turn off their exp in their options settings and then play AE missions all day. Oh. and any tickets or influence you get You are required to throw away and not use.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have spent upwards of six hours with my lvl 50 Brute randomly picking and playing AE missions. No XP, and negligible tickets. Since I almost never transfer cash between characters, that's about as close to 0 reward as you can get.

    [/ QUOTE ]

if you honestly think the tickets from 6 hours of play are negligible, you either have some poorly designed arcs you're playing or you just fail miserably at markets

    [ QUOTE ]

The point of my post was to indicate that some of us are perfectly happy to explore content that gives no benefits.

I don't do the AE on lowbies usually, since it means I miss out on things like achievement badges and certain missions I particularly enjoy, like the Seer Marino Arc, or stuff in the Rikti War Zone or Cimerora.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, in other words. you enjoy progress. even if it only means badges you cannot get from the AE? Well, then I think you just failed your own logic on playing stuff without needing a reward for it.

After all. if you truly can enjoy the AE without any reward for it ever, why arent you skipping those arcs to enjoy "great storytelling?" Or better yet, lets strip out those badges from those arcs. Seer marino no longer gives any exp at all and no badges. Good to know you'd still be there to play it, right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

So we agree there are all sorts of rewards in this game besides XP. As a result, removing XP from the AE, since it is only one of many reward, isn't really all that drastic a thing, is it?

    Actually wouldn't Castle = Fortress?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Castle is a reference to the chess maneuver of Castling, rather than to the architectural structure called a Castle. Hence my forum Avatar.

I was actually looking for a term synonymous with "Discovered Attack" for the Praetorian name, but settled on "Checkmate" when I couldn't find anything suitable in the 2 minutes I allowed myself to look.

    EDIT: To add clarification:
    [ QUOTE ]
In chess, a discovered attack is an attack revealed when one piece moves out of the way of another. Discovered attacks can be extremely powerful, as the piece moved can make a threat independently of the piece it reveals. Like many chess tactics, they succeed because the opponent is unable to meet two threats at once. While typically the consequence of a discovered attack is the gain of material, they do not have to do this to be effective; the tactic can be used merely to gain a tempo.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Taken from Wikipedia

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Actually I would of thought:

    En passant

When a pawn advances two squares, if there is an opponent's pawn on an adjacent file next to its destination square, then the opponent's pawn can capture it and move to the square the pawn passed over, but only on the next move.

So while Castle is a defensive move, En Passant is an offensive one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Alternatively, Castling is moving two pieces to protect one, the aggressive opposite would be a Fork: moving one piece to attack two. But playing an evil villain named "Fork" makes it sound like you're in an episode of The Tick.

Another possibility along the lines Castle was originally thinking is Battery which is often (not always) when two rooks line up to attack a King or a King's defenses. I think playing a Praetorian called Battery would be better than one called Fork, and the word is also synonymous with a crime.

Slightly more esoteric, since Castling is generally an early defensive move, another Praetorian opposing analog might be Endgame.

Battery, Endgame, and Checkmate all imply differences in style for the character, and none of them sound especially Blasterish (to me). However, they do all sound like they could be Dominators, so perhaps the Praetorian version of Castle is more of a Dominator than a Blaster (which actually makes a lot more sense with I15 Dominator numbers than the past would).

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's always Skewer and Pin, or could be both: Skewer And Pin.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
I understand your point ancient, it is used in different ways...but what does it mean for the character name sex of diamonds? While it probably doesn't mean anything, does it sound more like a word of a permission slip, or that of the actual act? To me, its sounds like diamonds are having sex....(obviously that doesn't make sense but makes my mind "go there") Also, most forms these days say gender, not sex. Just an FYI.

For the record, I personally wouldn't rate your arc based on that and it doesn't offend me. I am just trying to figure out what someone may have been thinking when the 1 star rated you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

All the enemies in that mission have names like that, if memory serves. Near-homonyms off the numbers.
  23. Clearly, the only solution is to find a few pairs of heels of various heights in my size and try to kickbox in them.
  24. Candlejack is probably one of the most ridiculous and racist memes on the internet.
  25. Stalkers used to be challenging, but not so much anymore.

Ninja/* MMs are challenging in the sense of herding psychotic cats well can have solid results.

Mercs/* MMs are just plain weaker than the others.

Defenders can spend a lot of their time struggling with things other ATs don't, especially if you play a weaker secondary (relatively speaking, so no Rad or Kin).
