Gonna go against the grain here and say that my DB/DA scrapper is a murder machine that stops for nothing. The addition of the ToE proc in Dark Regen and the Perfshifter proc in Stamina made me into a killing machine. If it can't kill me in 17 seconds, it will never kill me. Seriously, the **** is bananas. Even as a lowbie I was turning on Death Shroud and hopping into the mobs, killing the boss and letting the aura kill the rest. The ToE proc turns Dark Regen into an end gainer rather often. I seriously cannot say enough about how much I am loving DB/DA. It made me swear off my BS/SD and Fire/WP scrappers altogether, and I am only level 38!
As far as combos, I ditched the lower ones once I got to 32ish and went with Sweep and Attack Vitals. Levelling maybe you want the lower combos but I didn't fuss about it. -
Nothing wrong with claws. It isn't low damage at all. Also, Follow Up gives you a better buff than Buildup when measured over time, and that's not even considering you can stack it*. Claws tears things up. Now, you might not enjoy it, but it's certainly not low damage.
If you are as new as your regdate implies then I suggest spending some time in the Scrapper forums. Read and learn.
*This might be my faulty memory but I am standing by it anyway.

Quote:This is pure, unadulterated LOL. Your hardest hitting single target attack in Claws is Focus. Also, your statement about no having damaging ranged attacks on a melee character is ridiculous, considering that every Scrapper and Brute epic has ranged attacks, and their damage is just fine.but what good are ranged attacks when they dont do damage? Ok I understand that you cant have damaging ranged attacks on a melee based charecter, but why have them at all? If you want ranged attacks that badly you can get them with 40+ sets and there more useful than the ones in the set too. -
Quote:Yep, I play AE a fair bit and I find plenty of stories that I enjoy. This is entirely subjective and meaningful only to you. While you might feel this way, there are plenty of folks I know, and play with, that feel differently about AE and its presence in the game. It's not perfect but it's a nice option to have when paper missions, SFs and regular missions run dry.

Hey great! But I gotta ask, is there some limit on how many purchases we can make? I bought it for my wife's account and now it says I can't get it for mine. The store page says it can't accept my order at this time, which is different from the usual error message that occurs when the store is getting dominated by people rushing to buy

Quote:Depends on the server but yes, you will encounter anywhere from "some" to "lots" of people while levelling. The game is [b]not]focused on reaching max level, and racing to the level cap is a good way to hate yourself and the game. With that in mind, remember that the game is largely instanced so seeing few players in the game overworld means pretty much nothing. Use search, use global channels, ask in your server's forum what global channels to join.1) Is this game easy for new players to get into? Will I encounter
players while leveling or is it a wasteland until I reach max level?
Quote:2) What is there to do at max level, are there instance runs, or perhaps
even full blown raids?
Quote:Finally, I'm a huge PVE geek so will this game please my urge to play together with like minded people while mowing down the enemies?
Here's the deal: City of Heroes/Villains is not like any MMOs that you've likely played in the past.- No holy trinity of tank, damage, healer. All the content (except maybe one raid) can be done with literally any combination of archetype. I've run most of the content using teams made up of nothing but glass cannon blasters or melee-types. Healing is merely one of several ways to keep a team alive, and many, including myself, would argue that it's the least effective way.
- No reason to race to level cap. Powerleveling your character is foolish and a waste of time, because you have the opportunity to get rewards (merits, rare drops) while leveling. As mentioned above, most of the content does not require you to be at max level. On my level cap characters, which I play daily, I have not run any content that required me to be over level 35 in weeks. This really is a case where it's the journey, not the destination.
- Alts! Alts are encouraged. Playing the game through as a blaster is very very different than playing as a defender or scrapper or controller or tank. Even changing the powersets you use makes a huge difference. The game is not about making a single main character and some trivial alts. You can, with minimal investment, make every one of your alts awesome and valuable to a team. Plus it's always nice when you are forming a team to be able to fill whatever role you feel like playing.
Welcome to City of Heroes and hope to see you soon! -
Word on the street is that this patch removed the exploit related to AE missions that used MM pets to award far too much experience.

Same here. What exactly is the issue if there are ten thousand left-handed widgets on the market? Is it because my left-handed widget will take longer to sell? Cause that doesn't really strike me as a problem.

Super stoked about i17, sorry that apparently you can't please everyone, who knew?!

Quote:Sounds like you need to go poke around the Announcements Forum! There's a lot of info there about what i17 is, and the announcement thread for DXP weekend indicates dual pistols will be available for folks who preorder Going Rogue. Is this confirmed? I haven't seen anything that says this. I've really been looking for a full "spoiler" of what new features are included in Going Rogue. I know that Dual Pistols is available on the Test Server, but I didn't think all of Going Rogue was ready to be distributed.
I've been confused since they announced Issue 17 coming out soonish too. Originally, I thought Ultimate Mode was a feature of Going Rogue.
Isn't there supposed to be a wierd Rogue Archetype? I'd love some more information on that.
No new archetype announced so far, though. That would be cool! -
Quote:Keep in mind that because this workaround bypasses the updater, when the game gets a patch it will not only stop working but also not patch the game.Just don't load the updater.
We got a fix, where you simply go directly ingame.
Make a shortcut to your coh.exe (not updater) and add " -project eucoh" to the target. Like this: "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project eucoh
I don't know, if "-project uscoh" works, you have to try yourself. -
Posting because I support any and all efforts to break molds and take roads less traveled. Nicely done!
PS First thing I thought when I saw the thread was "I bet there's a dude that knows the value of Air Superiority" and I was right! -

I'm about 90% sure that isn't a game bug. When you downscale resolutions on an LCD monitor things get ugly fast.
-
Thank you kindly, I followed your advice and it is working well. The only issue I am having is that I can't alt+tab but I haven't seen a fix for that yet. I hear windowed mode still works but I can't handle the window borders and whatnot so I will just be glad I have a second monitor to use for browsing while I am playing.

I don't own one but I have seen the i5 in action in a friends rig. It has some kind of turbo boost thing that Intel engineered into the CPU so if it's only using one core it speeds that core up to get more performance. Works a treat by the look of it.
Honestly even though Intel holds the performance crown, either of those CPUs is a monster and will handle whatever needs handling on your endI would purchase either one with confidence, maybe look for a nice sale on the CPU and motherboard you want?

I'd believe the lag comes from capes if it only happened when capes were on screen. However, I can face straight down in Lag Valley and see no mobs but still have mega lag. The server doesn't draw capes that you can't see, and neither does your PC, so cape lag can't happen when you aren't seeing a ton of capes.

The ITF is a server-side problem. There's a lotta Romans in that valley and correspondingly there's a lotta calculations for whatever shield defense/grant cover/phalanx fighting crap they have going on. Nothing to be done about it because fixing it would involve throwing a lot of hardware at the problem. This is my understanding of it, as told by someone who knows a Whole Lot MoreĀ than I do.
Other than that portion of one TF, the only other place that I can think of that irritates the hell out of me is the last room in the LGTF, where scenery, mobs and everything else randomly appear and disappear while you go about your merry way. Not sure why that occurs but I sure wish it didn't.
I am pretty sure that these problems frustrate and annoy the devs too. They have a lot of justifiable pride in their work so these things probably drive them absolutely warbonkers. -
I am not great with computers and this thread is filled with frightening words that make my eyes twitch, so I am going to ask some possibly stupid questions.
I am receiving a couple of ATI cards today, a 5770 and a 5850 for my family's two PCs. I have run Nvidia cards since basically forever; the last ATI card I had was a Radeon 9800 Pro. Of course now I learn that our main game, CoX, doesn't play nicely with ATI cards at the moment. I have been told in no uncertain terms by She Who Must Be Obeyed that if she can't play her DP fender on Test once this upgrade happens, I may suffer a fate worse than death (my own cooking). Here's my questions:
1. Is this the right way to go about this upgrade: Uninstall Nvidia drivers, reboot into safe mode, run Driver Sweeper to kill off the residual grunge of the old drivers, reboot normally, install the newest ATI drivers?
2. Do I need to install these hotfixes mentioned in the thread?
3. Can I run bloom et cetera in the in-game settings and enable AA in the ATI drivers and have both work? As in, does the ATI driver setting override the ingame setting? Does this also apply for AF?
4. Do I still need to keep water effects Off if I want to use bloom and depth of field, or should I call the whole thing off and just turn off bloom/DoF altogether?
Thanks for your patience, this whole thing is a weird mess and I don't really understand why there is such an issue. Nvidia's stuff just seemed to always work but I am not a brand loyalist and I buy whatever makes the most sense when it's time for an upgrade, so this time it's ATI. I don't understand enough to know whether ATI or Paragon Studios is at fault, but I am pretty sure that neither company wants people to struggle with their products. I'm glad to see that once i17 hits and we get Ultra Mode this will all become moot! -
Quote:I would love to hear how making epic archetypes available at 20 nerfs them in any way. Any way at all. I'd also like to hear how exactly it affects anyone who already has the EATs unlocked to let others unlock them at 20. Me, I'm great with it, I've been here a long time and have had epics unlocked for a long time. No skin off my nose if the next guy doesn't have to get to 50 to try them out.The devs involved in the nerfing of warshades and peacebringers should take a good long look at http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=208792 the thread about it on the kheld forum.
