I am boring and made a ss/inv brute recently, my first /inv brute ever! I imagine it goes great with claws, too, but then again everything goes great with claws
-
Quote:Shoot for at least 25%. Get it from Reactive Armor sets, Kinetic Combat sets, and Oblit sets. Flavour with Steadfast +3% def unique, baste with Weave and voila!Sorry for the ignorance, but *how*? Where do you get it from? How much is a healthy dose?
edit: 30% is noticeably better than 25% -

Yep, ditching Focused Burst and taking Burst and Burn both. I have seen the light!
-
I too have noticed that blueside isn't ready for the high-stakes, fast-paced play that redside has enjoyed for years
-
Adding a healthy dose of S/L defense turned my claws/electrical brute into a rather tough death machine.
-
Built mine for S/L defense, with good results.

Quote:I'm playing around with a build planner and it looks like I can fit it all in after all. I am committing the sin of not taking the fighting pool(!) because I intend to fit a fully-strapped RotP in my "attack chain."I am taking both and would recommend both. I'd skip one of the single target attacks. I skipped Body Blow, personally, although I think skipping Quick Strike is the better move from a performance angle.
I have taken Focused Burst for now, but in the long run I may end up dropping that and picking up Body Blow. The range aspect is nice, but I don't particularly feel the need for it and Body Blow is a better attack by a significant margin, IMO.I hadn't considered dropping Focused Burst, but on consideration I sure could. I hate the animation length and I have vet staffs to deal with runners. Maybe that's the way to go, we'll have to see.

I'm running a KM/FA scrapper up the ranks and I am coming up against a serious issue: lack of slots. Farting around with the numbers has shown me that slotted out, Burn is up fairly frequently and does a ton more damage than Burst, even before accounting for Fiery Embrace, which I don't have yet. Will I miss Burst if I ditch it for Burn? I've taken all three of Quick Strike, Smashing Blow and Body Blow, and I could drop one if Burst makes more sense to fit in the build.
Related questions: Does Burn benefit from Power Siphon? Does Burn benefit from Fiery Embrace? -

Love to see 90% of the oldschool content rewritten. Manticore, Synapse, Citadel TFs are all really shoddy, with Manticore being the worst. Shard TFs could use a going over, but I love them even as they are
Really I'd just like to see the signature task forces redone and the originals left in Ouro to stare at and shudder.
Really though with the new tech that we see in GR, every single arc from every single contact could benefit from a rewrite. Hell, in one mission my ORIGIN gave me an option to do something that wasn't available to another character of mine with a different origin. How awesome is that? -
For brutes, Follow Up is pretty optional, so don't feel you must be married to it. Definitely take Spin, Focus and Eviscerate. Spin alone will make you a death dispenser, and Eviscerate has a 90 degree cone so it's actually not that narrow. For WP, I'm not sure I'd take Shockwave, because you don't want to knock things out of RttC range, but then again belting a spawn into a handy wall never gets old.
Bottom line on claws for brutes is that it's a killing machine that starts getting good early and hits like a truck fulla concrete-filled nuns. -
Quote:Adding S/L defense to any of the resist sets is going to make a ton of difference for your survivability. It's like the creamy defense frosting on the delicious resistance cake, with a decent heal on top. From my own experience, no attainable amount of +rech in electric armor is going to trump ~30% S/L defense, and I've never tried to build a fire armor brute for recharge. With the big thing nowadays being +def via set bonuses am I going to be struggling and/or selling myself short if I go with a resistance based set? Or will all that resistance plus def bonuses give me good survivability? I don't need to be able to function as a tank in extreme situations I'm just trying to avoid a multitude of embarrassing ground-kissing scenarios. Whilst cranking out (hopefully) obscene damage of course.
I'd recommend claws/electrical or claws/fire. Electrical armor will be tougher, fire armor will do an absolute ton more damage. Electrical also has the advantage of being capped to a much more common damage type, in my experience. From 35 on, my claws/electrical armor brute leveled solo at +2/x8 in the RWZ, and that was with no IOs at all. Fire armor is easily capped to fire damage, but so whatIt's just not that common. On the other hand, the new Fiery Embrace is a monstrous damage buff to all your attacks, and Burn is freaking amazing now. Slot your damage aura with 3x dam/end IOs and a single acc/dam/end IO; it's one of, if not your most efficient attacks, even with only one mob in range.
My own experience with claws, over a lot of brutes since it was released, is that it's a murder machine. I have a really hard time rolling or playing brutes that aren't claws, now. Take or leave FU, it's pretty optional on brutes with their abysmal base damage so if you don't like it don't feel bad about skipping it. Two of my claws brutes have it, two don't, and two are still on the fence. Spin is awesome, eviscerate is awesome, shockwave is. . . an acquired taste but definitely helps keep me alive in tight spots.
Taunt is nice for a set mule but not required, Perfect Zinger is great in there. Some folks find that it helps them gain fury in teams, I find that if my fury is slow gaining I should go find another fight in the mission and leave the current one to the rest of the team
My brutes are in love with the Soul Mastery pool because Gloom rocks so very hard, and Darkest Night is always nice. On an electrical armor brute with its bottomless end pool, DN is a godsend. However the APP with Superior Conditioning appeals to some secondaries; my invulnerable brutes are eyeing it up with lust. -
They're not worth slotting in damage auras. Maybe once you're slotted to the ED cap for damage and endredux, but even then they won't make much difference.

Quote:That reasonable middle ground is pretty much at 25% defense, when you are hit half as often as when you are at zero defense. That said you are still gonna be super squishy at 25% defense. As someone upthread said, carry purples, they will benefit you a lot more than greens because they are building on your already substantial level of defense.I know that defense gets really effective once you start to hit near the cap. But I think it should be effective period. Not that I never get hit...but most times I feel like I'm either dodging everything or getting pounded.
There should be a reasonable middle ground where I'm not mister untouchable, but you can't just smack me around like a redheaded stepchild either.
If you haven't already, take a read of Dechs Kaison's excellent writeup on defense. TL;DR: every point of defense is more valuable than the point before it; the first 25% cuts your incoming damage in half from zero defense, and the last 5% cuts your incoming damage in half from 40% defense, so at 20ish% defense, you are not quite mitigating half of the incoming fire.
It gets a lot better. Stick with it, once you get up there and get some good slotting in your defenses, you will feel like a bullet-dodging maniac. Hit the softcap (45%) and you will be a tiny god. -
Quote:Haha well three rolls tonight and not one good recipe in the bunchHoly crap Emberly. Your luck is insane. have you thought of entering the lottery recently?
Regressing towards the mean, I guess! Sure was nice to slot out my SR brute and still stash four in the base though!
edit: it's amazing how little it irritates me to have fifteen random recipes all be crap when it's only three rolls, when back in the old merit days if I rolled five in a row that were crap I got ticked enough to stop rolling for the night -
Total count for 14 rolls, 35-39 range:
9 LoTG +rech (!) (in three cases I got two in the same roll)
2 Numina +regen/recovery
1 Miracle +recovery
4 Oblit quads
2 Kinetic Combat I think triples
Bunch of worthless ****
So I am happy. I think I'm getting your LoTGs Fulmens.
edit: should be 14 rolls not 11 -
Are you running a damage aura or another aura that needs a tohit check?

Quote:Please tell me how to bypass getting rooted on my DM brute. Shadow Maul wants to know!Stuff like dark, elec even energy are far easier bypass getting rooted while after each kin melee attack it feels like shout levels of rooting(except for quick strike and sometimes body blow) or the blaster fire blast aftercast.
Got sapped by protean several times after getting stuck. -
