  2. BC, at least tell us if you now understand how bidders are matched with sellers, and if you now understand that it is buyers who set prices by bidding over what sellers ask.

edit: by "tell us you understand" I mean "explain your understanding" because I am thinking you are still labouring under the FIFO delusion.

    Soloing +4/x8?

Well, for some anecdotal "data," my wife's claws/SR scrapper has done +4/x8 on a lotta enemy types, has completed the RWZ challenge, and soloed the big ol' ambush at the end of Mission 1 of the ITF. Her build has zero purples/PVPIOs, but she is softcapped and has Aid Self. My DM/SR brute is a killing machine and doesn't seem to ever die, but I haven't tried her on the RWZ challenge or and +4/x8 solo missions. She's built without purple/PVPIOs, softcapped and leverages Siphon Life and Darkest Night to good advantage. I'm sure she could take on some +4/x8 and win. My bots/traps does really well, but I have only tried a few Council missions at +4/x8, and succeeded. My build has exactly two purples (the pet buildup proc and the ragnaproc in caltrops) and otherwise has nothing special going for it at all.

Not all enemy groups are equal, and there are some that I would never take on at +4/x8. Longbow, Arachnos, Vanguard, and some others that slip my mind at the moment.

Are people seriously worked up about how they are or are not going to RP the incarnate system?

This, right here, should tell you that the devs don't want you getting these items, in quantity, without significant effort. Yet, you persist in thinking that they will fundamentally alter the market so you can get whatever you want whenever you want, cheating other players out of fair prices for their rare goods. Do you have cognition problems in other areas of your life?

They can. Heck, the average player with average time can build a really nice character in two months or less. The good player with average time can kit out an amazing character in that time, and the person willing to learn how to use the market can build a tiny god in that time. Sadly, you're a below-average player, because you're unwilling to learn to use the market to your advantage. Sucks to be you, I guess. Enjoy tilting at that windmill!

This is a terrible idea and thankfully our devs are smart enough that it will never be implemented. It is not stupid to pay very high prices for things that are so rare most players will never see them. They are rare enhancements, and as such shouldn't be available in a store for unlimited purchase. You don't understand that the rarity of these items is where devs want them. Yes, a side effect of rarity is that these items will accumulate in the hands of people who work harder, smarter or longer for them, as opposed to simply falling into the laps of every Tom, Dick and Harry with an entitlement complex.

Your unwillingness to do the work needed to earn the rarest items in the game doesn't mean there is a problem with the game or its market system.

You insist on acting like people are "griefing" by pricing things out of your affordable range. It's not happening. Things are expensive because they are rare. Additionally, because no one person or group has a monopoly on the supply, high prices for rare items mean that any player who finds a rare item gets a nice windfall. You act like people who understand economics are doing you wrong, when in fact it's you, refusing to learn how to work within the existing system, that is keeping these items out of your hands.

Someone lists below price A, my bid is accepted. Someone lists at price B, my bid is accepted. There is a pattern to this.

The underlying theory is that I have lots of bids at lots of price points. Whoever lists anything, my bid will always be accepted and I will always be the one that buys the item. Therefore I have all the items of this type. Then, having cornered the market, I can resell the item at 2 billion. Anyone trying to bid lower than that has to wait for all my bids to fill. Since i have bids at multiple price points, and they were there 1st, the only items currently available on the market for instant purchase are my 2 billion listings.
You are so very wrong. You still don't understand how buyers are matched with sellers. Repeat after me: The highest bid goes to the lowest sale price. That means that in order for you to always buy the item, you have to always pay more than anyone else is willing to pay. That kind of defeats the purpose of cornering a market and making a profit, doesn't it? Especially when the market eats ten percent of your sale, so when you buy for two billion and resell for two billion, you've lost two hundred million, every time.

By enforcing a market cap on them they would allow the market to work, yet reduce the abuse to their system of the few preying on the many.
Price caps will just make things trade off market (creating a true black market), and for even more. Putting a price cap on low cost things like common salvage will cause prices to skyrocket and make those items unavailable on market. You'd know this if you understood economics. Heck, it's already happening with items that trade for above the price cap. Do you really want to have to go to the forums to buy alchemical silver?

They really don't seem that rare to me. I've had two of them show up more than once in one roll, and once I had three show up. I think the heavens parted at that point and Ode to Joy started playing from the sky.

Why not? Because the presence of existing two billion inf bids means that your lower bids will never fill. You'd know this, if you understood how the market works.
    Quote:
the theory is most people will price the one they get at 1.9 bill, or 1.5 bill for fast sells. You buy those (1st bid at any price is 1st filled) and relist it at 2 bill.
Once again, you don't know how the market works. The highest bid is matched to the lowest sale price. I bolded the part that is completely, utterly wrong.
    Quote:
Anybody trying to bid 1.5 bill, or 1.9 bill, has to wait for all of your 1.5 bill, or 1.9 bill bids to fill first.
Actually, anyone bidding lower than two billion will never see a purchase, because the two billion bids will be filled first. You really don't understand how this works at all, do you?
    Quote:
If they are building for a toon they will probably get impatient and bid the 2 bill.
And then they are in the random queue with all the other max-bid hopefuls, because the game is semirandom when filling max bids.

Kaching. (this kaching thing = the sound a cash register makes in old movies) So, you have effectively cornered the market and are making money off every one of these items that move. As far as where do I get a 100 billion, well, some of these crusty old marketeers have that and lots more. And once they have that much they corner market after market after market. Niches, that is what they are called in the marketeer parlance. (I included the selling information above as a bonus. Thanks for playing)
Ahh, so if the market worked in a completely different way than it actually does, your method would work? Is that your position?

If we pair up and do it together, we can lose two hundred million inf a sale, 12960 times! That's a surefire way to profit off "cornering the market!"

Of course, there's the ridiculousness of any one player having enough inf to bid two billion inf 6480 times to guarantee that they get all the items placed. Then there's the issue that at bid cap, bids are filled semirandomly, so anyone else could get those items. Then there's the issue that once you have the items, having paid max bid for them, you can only lose money reselling them on the market due to sellers fees. Then there's the fact that most of these items are sold off market for more than bid cap because they are so rare. Then there's the fact that anyone can produce more of them, either by drops or by A-merits.

That covers what's wrong with your idea on the buying side. Need any help on the selling?

It benefits the franchise by creating different tiers of loot for people willing or able to put different amounts of effort in. Casual players (whatever the hell that means) can get SOs, non-set IOs, or cheap set IOs. More dedicated players can kit out with the good sets, and the truly dedicated can get purples/PVP IOs where they want them. This means that every tier of player dedication has rewards tailored to them. The casual player has fun building out their character as they can, and enjoys the monetary reward of selling the odd rare drop that s/he gets.

It's only when we get someone like yourself who thinks that reward and effort shouldn't be related that complaints arise.
