Quote:Haha, yes you did!...(I probably just put way too much thought into that.)
(but only because you suggested that you may have)
Bah... it is an electric show down then!! Wear your rubber boots, static boy... You're in for the shock of your life!!Quote:I was impressed by it the first time I heard it. The new character log-in screen is not as bright and toy-like as it was pre-i21. Like the game, it has grown more sophisticated. The old sound seems almost childish. Sometimes understatement makes a stronger statement.
Haha... honestly, it sounds like flipping a page. I figured it was a bit of a comicbook reference. Not such a bad idea... but... I feel like that was one place that childish overstatement really fit!
So there, Mister Too-Sophisticated Electric-Pants!!

Quote:Oh, cool. I forgot to mention that I looked for the bundle very quickly, but didn't see it before I logged out.Circle of Thorns 1
Circle of Thorns 2
Circle of Thorns Belt
Circle of Thorns Boots
Circle of Thorns Boots w/ Spikes
Circle of Thorns Chest
Circle of Thorns Gloves
Circle of Thorns Gloves w/ Spikes
Circle of Thorns Hood
Circle of Thorns Kilt
Circle of Thorns Leggings
Circle of Thorns Pattern
This is what showed up in /mypurchases after I bought the CoT bundle (400pts)
And I forgot about the belt. I saw that as well. It is a very simple looking belt. Not the one with the glowing buckle piece.
The only thing from that list that I didn't see are the gloves.
And... Not sure what "Circle Of Thorns 1 and 2" are... I did look through the head details. I may have missed 'em.
EDIT:
Oh... I'd say those are the Shoulder Pieces.
There were two different options.
One more simple, looked a bit like leather. The other was the big decorated ones. -
It is a really odd change, in my opinion.
I don't necessarily care if they wanted to change it... But... to a weak sound like it is right now? That is really odd to me.
My wife has commented about it several times to me. It's just so... anti-climactic, uninspiring... dull.
NEXT... ffwip
If not the old sound... I feel like it should be something like returning to a fun, action, superhero show... The only example I can think of is the old Justice League cartoon sound effect. They knew how to provide a sound effect for a scene change!
I am disappointed that they just stuck such a dull sound on there. Not a huge deal... but I don't get the point of such a change.
Anyway, those are my thoughts about it.
I'd like to see it changed. The sooner the better.
Also, thanks for the player-made fix.
If they don't change it soonish, I may just use that. -
I've noticed the UI and fog of war issues...
Also, the mini map's options have been acting weird (but I've seen many people commenting about that). It's just strange to log into a character and have nothing selected to be shown on my mini map!
I do find these and the issues people are having with costume slots, costume gender models and now power customizations as well... rather disturbing.
I do hope the fixes for these issues are found sooner rather than later. -
Anyone else notice a few Circle Of Thorns pieces sneaking into the costume creator (I only just noticed them Monday Night)?
I saw boots, a hood, shouldermapads, a skirt (shhhh), some tights (that aren't tights [that are tights])... and I think that was all I noticed (I did look through some other options and didn't see any hats, details, robes, chest details... as far as I recall).
I'm not sure that everything we're getting is in there, as I'm not sure they were supposed to be in there at all yet... Oh, then again... it is a new week already (time flies! As early as level four now too)...
Unless, of course, I somehow missed others talking about this already.
Sorry... no pics from me as of right now!
I'm sure we'll all be seeing these pieces really soon anyway! -

Quote:Actually, in all seriousness (well, as much as I may muster for a short amount of time, at least)... And not just for the O.P.... While the above response is certainly true and a good rule to follow...A good rule of thumb is don't post angry. Or in the case of this thread don't post boiling mad. Type up your post, re-read it, wait til you've calmed down, and then edit the anger out.
Also try to give people the benefit of the doubt and, more importantly, don't assume anything. Post and ask. Don't assume the developers would be so dumb and mean to remove those aspects (without some way of still achieving the same things).
I know it can be hard, when you encounter a lot of dimwits out and about, but it really pays to give people the benefit of the doubt (when the end result shouldn't result in daggers in the back or some sort of severe pain).
This message has been brought to you by me. -
Oh, does canceling the power (now that we can do that by right clicking the icons) not work well for Group Fly? Does it just reapply again? I hadn't thought about it.
This may be a great place for a pop up, as much as some people hate them.
"Electric-Knight has offered to grant you flight! Do you accept? Yes or No"
I love the situational use and idea of Group Flight (and actually currently have it for conceptual reasons), but... Yeah, it still needs more help (removing the to-hit penalty was a start). -
-
Hmm, I suppose that I'd go with the Brute (or, personally, Scrapper would remain a possibility for me) for the added damage as his strength.
His durability really remains well represented, given that none of us can really die in this game anyway... And a Brute just does a better job than most.
Also... It could be interesting to see what options Titan Weapons bring... As seeing Hercules wield a giant maul could be fitting.
Still... I'd likely go SS/WP or Inv Brute.
Although, it has been a while since I've read through the Heracles (the REAL Hercules) stories I own.
-
Hehe, so long as you can laugh about it afterward, right?
And don't mind the others that laughed a bit at your expense, hehe...
We all make mistakes. -
There are two separate issues that keep on getting mixed up in this mess of a thread (actually more than two, but these are the two biggest things):
1)
"GR was a Prerequisite for the Incarnate System... The Incarnate System was not a part of GR"
Ignoring any debate of semantics/logic of that general statement and/or any disagreement about this...
WHO CARES? "Tied-to, prerequisite, slightly-related, complete-package-deal, married, legal-union, best-buddies..." What difference does it actually make?
You needed GR to play the Incarnate stuff. Enough said.
2)
Whether anyone likes it or not...
Incarnate content is NOT part of the Free nor Premium package. It is VIP only. They have EVERY right to make it that way. Period. Every deal beforehand was built around the subscription model.
It is legal. "Fair" is somewhat subjective.
They have made it absolutely clear... Incarnate is VIP.
Now...
Make your decisions.
I happen to believe that Incarnate content was a part of GR and that they not only have EVERY right to set up Incarnate Content as VIP only, but that they'd likely be completely out of their minds to offer Incarnate Content to Premiums (other than maybe a steep monthly fee... which would likely be close to $15, hehe, so...). -
In fact... It's not exactly advertised/freely-known/stated anywhere (that I know of) for new players that you can combine three inspirations (of the exact same type and size) to create a single one of your choice (of the same size as the original three).
So, three small reds can be turned into one small <your choice here>.
Three medium blues can be turned into one medium <your choice here>.
This is actually a major advantage in the whole inspiration game.
Anyway... just in case you didn't know! -
I honestly think that merging the AT forums would make things more complicated for the new user, not more simplified.
As it is, those divisions are straight-forward and simple.
Merge them and it becomes a guessing game as to where what belongs and so on.
I completely understand the desire to compress things, but that particular method seems like a wrong move to me. -
Hmm...
Quick question: Do these auras look the same outside of the costume creator screen?
I know that there used to be (may still be) a slight skewing of where the auras are placed in the editor, due to some oddity with the camera being offset within it. However, out in the game world, everything was lined up perfectly fine.
The details are a bit fuzzy in my head, but it led me to consider the possibility that this issue, too, may only be present in the editor! It's worth a look! -
I'm going to try and keep my thoughts contained and not ramble on... As you've asked for a Tanker suggestion (and then maybe a Brute/Scrapper one)...
But I will just offer a slightly more philosophical response...
Anything and everything can solo well. It really is just a matter of what strategy fits into your preference for fun - What you'll enjoy doing the most.
That preference for fun may not be known yet by a specific player... but, if/when you find it... it is glorious!
I happen to love soloing as my Electric/Electric Blaster... and that is how I started the game (I feel like I lucked out).
I find it thrilling and rewarding, yet not too challenging. All of that, of course, is entirely subjective.
Soloing as different ATs can be very different experiences.
Anyway... besides the concept of picking what you might enjoy the most for solo play... You may want to examine your strategy and see if there is something more you can do that is negatively impacting your experience (more/better inspiration use, change of difficulty settings, change of expectations, a different approach to initiating combat, a different sequence of attacks, etc.).
Best of luck and keep poking, asking, looking, trying!
As for a Tanker... I have a Shield Defense/Super Strength Tanker that I love playing. I can't say that I always feel the strongest/sturdiest, but I solo a lot and take things out nicely. It doesn't hurt that I just simply love the character and enjoy playing him, regardless, hehe. -
Welcome to the game, Bags!
Very glad to hear you're enjoying it and it sounds like you've got a good mind about this game and it is cool that you're enjoying the villain-side content, story arcs and such!
As usual, some fantastic replies from everyone here already!
And that Teleport Bind is truly a great thing and I'm glad someone mentioned it to you.
Since others have already things quite well, I'll say the ONE thing I'd tell a noob...
Don't listen to anything we say, including this.
Okay, not really, but kinda, haha...
Really, I suggest... forget everything you learned from other games. Forget any advice or recommendations about what to do and what not to do and how to play and how not to play and what to choose and what not to choose and what you MUST have...
This game is built around just playing. Pick... ANYTHING... and do ANYTHING.
There are always extremes, of course, but... in order to play this game and be capable of advancing through the content and the levels and experience the normal (normal meaning - without hands tied behind your back or whatever restrictions we like to place on ourselves for extra challenges) content of this game... All you need to do is play any AT, any powerset, in any type of team or soloing. This game is nicely balanced, in a great way, where you really don't have to do anything other than pick something and play it.
Although, proper/improper enhancement placing/choosing can affect things pretty strongly. You do NOT need invention enhancements. However, they are also not evil and you may enjoy using them!
For normal enhancing... Just try and remember a few simple guidelines (but, as with all rules, these guidelines are not absolute): Three of the same enhancement (say, Damage Enhancements on an attack) will bring you the maximum benefit. A fourth one will hardly give you anything at all. So, a good rule is no more than 3 of one type.
That and try and keep your defense and/or resistance powers (if you have such things) slotted to give you maximum protection, when you can.
And Endurance Reduction enhancements (Try just one in a power - like a toggle- and see if you need more) tend to help greatly with attacks and defensive toggles.
Okay... I totally rambled on there... sorry! None of this is the greatest advice out there, but I think it is the only stuff that may trip a new player up as they grow into the game.
The big thing really being... do not stress nor believe in all the hype about the "right way to build/slot a character". Get into it if you find that type of min/max-ing fun (many do!), but don't think it is necessary to experience and completely enjoy this game!
Hey... here's another little note...
There is a lot of variance within ATs among the different powersets and powerset combinations.
As an example, an Electric/Electric Blaster plays vastly different than a Fire/Fire Blaster.
The same is true for a great many of the different powers.
And, even within the same combination... There are often many different ways that individual players can successfully play those powersets. Some really have great versatility and different aspects may be enjoyed by different players.
I always find that to be a really cool aspect of this game that may go unnoticed by someone still thinking of each AT as a Class from other games. There's a similarity, but there really are differences within the AT selections!
Extra extra credit: If you have Knockback powers... Try and learn to control it and use it to your (and especially your team's) advantage.
Wanton knockback may be the only type of play that gets others a little annoyed and may get you kicked from a team, haha (if you're really intent on sending everyone flying without any regard to what the rest of your team would prefer).
I love knockback and think it is absolutely fun... and it is also very helpful as enemies can't attack you as they fly through the air and land on their butts. However, some times it can disrupt things and turn them into utter chaos (and sometimes, of course, that is fun too) to the detriment of the team.
Simple steps are to position yourself so that the knockback sends the enemy into walls/objects nearby and/or send them into a direction that you want them to go... And, lastly... a good rule is... If you sent it flying away from the team... go finish him off and/or lead him back to the team (just do so without aggroing another group of enemies, haha).
Okay... that's enough form me...
Except for this:
Quote:1st off. Welcome to the City!
Things I would tell a noob?
1. You're standing at the train exit.
2. It's the journey not the destination.
3. Don't pay me back, I do that for all the cool cats, ya dig.
4. You will want to get Stamin... (wait, that's my notes for noobs circa 2006)
5. Homage toons are wonderful, just be sure to avoid outright copying of anything trademarked, as that can get you in trouble.
6. You are not a Healor. You are a buffer/debuffer.
7. Supergroups>Guilds. Missions>Quests. Inspirations>Potions
8. paragonwiki.com
9. Mid's Hero builder
10. Yes, SteelClaw actually enjoy's playing that way.
Okay... I suggest coming back to this thread and the above post to understand a few of the jokes tossed in here once you've been here long enough and are tuly... one of us!!

Is the Wisps eye aura the same? I think it might include a bit of mist along with it, but I'm not positive that it is different.
Although... I think the Wisps aura is still bugged/missing right now (since Issue 21). -
Quote:This is what I was going to say! That should work, no problem. You can use a trick... Try this:
/bind f10 "say The worst of the best is about to kick your <insert word of choice>$$e attack"
I'm not entirely sure if attack is the right emote, but there is an emote that is the battlecry emote with nothing said.
Edit: But yeah, I do support increasing the length so that we wouldn't have to use tricks.
I'm actually surprised there *is* a limit to the Battlecry, because, as far as I understood, it is just that bind. I guess it is just a matter of the UI for filling it out.
Anyway... you should be covered with a do-it-yourself battlecry bind. And no one will ever know the difference! -
Just wanted to thank you for running a really nice event! Great idea and very well done.
It was also a pleasure meeting everyone there (as Amazing Ape) and I hope to keep in touch.
Also, absolutely fantastic job with the base. I ran around for a full tour before signing out. As I said at the time, great job!
I look forward to visiting the Heights again and in seeing some of the same people in-game some time.
As soon as this bug with the Bio-Hazard Base emblems is fixed, I'd like to get some people over to my red-side SG's base, which is a casino/hotel that I've been working on (on and off) for a while.
Thanks again!! -
Quote:I could be wrong/misremembering, but I thought that it was presented as "the power of Synapse" and, possibly, the power to steal power from anyone you may wish to!No, no, I mean I'd like to know what this power constitutes. What is this "power?" Will it work with my power armour? Will it consume my soul? These are all pertinent questions. I don't expect contacts to tell me why I want to work for them any more so than I would want anyone to try to sell me an opportunity by telling me why I really want it. I don't trust used car salesmen

However, Alistor does a very poor job of offering a tempting opportunity. "Power" isn't an opportunity. It's a word that, absent of any context, has no meaning. "An obelisk that can draw power from others and give it to you that I want you to use because I can't" on the other hand, is a tempting offer. The logistics of how the thing works aren't important so long as I know three things:
1. What am I after?
2. How do I use it?
3. Why do I care?
"Power" is about a third of the way to answering the first question and doesn't even begin to touch on the other two. More context is needed, and such context can easily be given without putting motivations into people's heads. If, for instance, someone offered me "lots and lots of money," then context follows the offer. I wouldn't refuse money, I know how to spend money and I care about money because it can buy me things. Not all characters are motivated by money, obviously, at which point not all characters will take an offer for lots and lots of money.
But "power" isn't really as defined and specific a concept as money. It's like a contact offering me "right" or "privilege." I need to know a bit more than just that, dude!
I'll have to check it again.
To me, it felt passable. Something I could convince myself that most of my villains could go for. -
I did get a new token on my billing date. So, you may want to look into that.
-
Aha, thanks for the replies! So, it's not just me. That's good to know.

Quote:This is what I am thinking, but I wasn't sure if it was something that everyone else knew and I was in the dark about. We are supposed to get our Paragon Points each subsequent month on our individual billing date. It's my understanding that everyone already got this months allotment, regardless of the billing date, when the devs launched the Headstart so we won't be getting an additional 400/550 points this month. The next batch is due in October.
This is an outrage. A miscarriage of justice. No... worse... a slap in the face! A Street Justice knee-in-the-junk!
I demand compensation!!
