  1. Well, seeing that I have a serious addiction to making things in the costume creator...
I couldn't resist trying to capture this character in there...

Obviously, the hat is not possible, nor the staff... However, I felt like I might be able to get something comparable.

Funny enough, the thing that annoyed me the most was not being able to get the robotic arms with either a robe or jackets, hehe... Oh, and also not being able to put the arachnos symbol on the jacket, at least (It gets buried by the flap, unfortunately).
A nice cape with the arachnos symbol could add a nice touch though : )

But, in the end, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

The cone helmet came out better than I thought it might, so I included an image of that one on the right... But, something about the regal option in the other two images, just fits better, for me, somehow.

[EDIT] Ack... the pic didn't resize... one moment please... See if this works...[/EDIT]

Click For A Full Size Look

If anyone wishes, I can provide the costume file, with all the scale adjusting I did and all.

Anyways... I loves making me some costumes!!
Once again... great pic... I really love it!

  3. If Idiot is going to censored on the forums...

Perhaps they need to include this as an emoticon:

And we can spell it as EEEEEDIOT!!!

EDIT: Hey! Look at that... Results! Idiot, idiot, idiotic, idiots... Hmm, what else has been changed? Hehe... ahh, I'll edit those out... Don't want to tip off some that they may go and change for the worse, hehehe...

EDIT: And, just for the record... I don't feel any "Us vs. Them" in this regard with our Mods, Devs, etc.
This topic is a craziness that we all get[censored] around by, hehe, from those who wish to communicate and those who have to moderate!

Honestly, I think the whole thing is just Smurfy!
  4. Yeah... people's issues with words is just such an odd thing... and the problems it causes for the people trying to moderate and the people trying to not be bogged down by such silliness... When there is such better silliness to be consumed with!!

That example of latin and the reaction the foolish censoring actually creates is a wonderful example.

I wish people could just let things go as is.
Let people use the full range of words... and then we can all see where everyone truly stands.

If someone is an [censored], let it be evident... Let's not create a balance curve to disguise the fact that they're an [censored]!

    Any-who...

What if the censor filter REALLY broke down? What if it started just randomly censoring words in hero names, villain names or the like? You wouldn't know what the real word was supposed to be.. but if someone felt the need to censor it... well... there HAD to have been a reason right?

    Hero Names:

    (censored) Man!
    The (censored) Hulk
    Iron (censored)
    Thor; Mighty Deity of (censored)
    Wolverine: Weapon-(censored)
    Captain (censored) or....

    Giant (censored)
    Ant (censored)
    Robin: Boy (censored)
    The Uncanny (censored)-Men
    (censored) League of America
    The (censored) Knight

    What about villains?

    The Joker: The Killing (censored)
    The Beyonder: (censored) Wars
    Bizarro (censored)-Man
    (censored) Monger
    Lord (censored)
    Ghost (censored)
    or
    (censored) Widow

And finally... those wonderful catch phrases...

    Up, up and (censored)!
    Holy (censored), Batman!
    Just your friendly neighborhood (censored)

Okay... maybe not that last one... heh
    HAHA!!!

The catch-phrases section just blasts this list into laughing oblivion!!

I've only ever used a simple gif program where I'd have to do that manually, so I be curious!! : )

And yay to LJ and all the beautiful sigs!

It always seems to me that people are interested in taking breaks and enjoying such a thing...

And... I still keep missing these...
Maybe tomorrow... Though, I don't think I'll be around!!

    This is all looking great...

Now, I get what you're saying, BreakneckBecky.
However, if that's really the case...

How many guys here are okay if...

I get what you're saying, but there is a difference in importance of those given examples.
  12. Hehe, you know... One thing I always try and do is post things when I want to express something positive...
It always seems like I (And I know I'm not alone) post things when I have a suggestion, a concern, an issue, or a complaint (Although, I think I do it respectfully).

I know I've made some positive remarks and posts about you, Babs, and the whole dev team...

However, I've been raving like mad (extremely positive) to my friends and anyone that'll listen about how awesome this team is and how absolutely excited and pleased I am with, not only what you're implementing into the game (At a regular pace), but also how you guys are doing it.
You do it and you do it right, do it big and make it awesome.

I've been impressed and wonderfully happy with the extent at which you guys delivered the AE and now with the Power Customization.

Haha... The big thing I was intending to say in this post was...
Unbelievably... I don't think I've posted about my absolute happiness since the Issue 16 info was released!
Sure, I've talked to my friends non stop... and posted on my guild forums about it...
But I could never gather my words to post something on the main forums!

Things like "FREEM!!!" and "YES!!!!" and such were all that would come out...

I suppose I should have gone with it.
I just tend to be more verbose... Too verbose... As you can see...

    Haha... *sigh*

It's not just Issue 16, BABs.

    You guys are great!

Since I've been here... The Rikti Invasion, weapon customization, Ouroboros, Power Proliferation, Great new Powersets, AE, Issue 16's uberness...

And it's not just all these cool toys... but how you do it and the trust we can have in you guys/gals to steer this ship well!

    Yay!

    Excelsior!!
  13. I don't see any signs of being "too sensitive" in this thread.

My personal tastes seem to be similar to your own, Psi (Regarding playing canon and other people's characters).

And the same with what Count Logan said about not being inferior to the canon character as well.

Now, these are our personal opinions.
We can express them OOCly and ICly how we choose and we can react accordingly.

Personally, sometimes I think the whole notion of, "Different people's fun" still needs to allow for societal/community-based ramifications.

That's what can stop a pesky packmate from soiling the water hole.

Just leting people know, "hey, I understand you're just trying to have fun... But think about everyone else as well".

    That's just it.

So, we can all play in our own individual bubbles of immersion... where I'm Statesman's lover and you're Statesman's lover and she's Statesman's lover and wouldn't you like to be a Statesman's lover too?

However, isn't that spoiling some of the point about collective and collaborated role-play among many?

Just my opinions, but that's all I have to offer at the moment.
...Well... and this other entity's opinions, but this other entity is shy and doesn't like me speaking for it on public forums... And it can cause quasars to sprout bananas and brew pink coffee that tastes like ants... But yeah, it's not really important to discuss now...

If it bothers you, just start up your own subplot/rumours about a randy shapechanger who pretends to be Captain Mako in order to sleep with gullible young villains.
Drop a comment that your character knows someone else who got tricked this way, thats all.

Don't feel obliged to burst their bubble.
Responding like this in character kind of keeps the peace and preserves continuity on both sides. In their mind, their character is special enough to sleep with Mako. In your mind, they're being fooled by a sleazy morphing wannabe.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I love this!!

  14. [ QUOTE ]

Well, that's the point of a contest. You set conditions such as the "most original" costume or "Fashionable" so that they are aware of the contest terms. Surprising people with "what you were actually looking for" is a bit sneaky, I can see why people get angry if there are no set conditions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe that is your perception of "the point of a contest".

Really, I can't stand it when people get so worked up over these sorts of contests.

People want to give rewards for people based on their opinions... So be it!

If people choose to enter into the contest, so be it!

You win, you lose... Yippee, it's just silly fun!

    Why so serious?

As for it being funded by other players, and thus the thinking that it should meet certain requirements because of that...

No. The people supplying additional funds can choose to contribute or not, based on their own opinions of how things are.

When the outside contributors make the decisions of what is right and how things should go...

Well... then you get Hollywood and pop-marketing...
And actually, it sounds like you'd like that very much!
Striving to win contests by conforming to the precepts of the organizers should help people's focus on how they style their costumes??

    That's your opinion.

And in the omni court district of my opinion, you can be found wrong!

I happen to like choosing things based on individual style and merit and nothing more.

I choose to compete against myself and anything that I feel matters to me.
Not any established rules garnered for fair and structured contests!

    Haha... Anyways...
How can a thread about a person running costume contests (And providing fun and interest in this activity) turn into such a discussion as this?

    Dispari,
Every weekend... I seem to forget about this!!
I'm going to try my best to show up next time.
    Just for kicks!
Eh, I may even enter the contest! And hope to lose so I can put a curse on you all!! (Not really that last bit, hahaha)

    Other issues:

"Plot" should probably be renamed to "Scheme," as it performs /em scheme. There's technically nothing wrong with this, as /em plot is a synonym, however, as seen in the URL above, /em hmmm is a synonym for /em plotting. Seems like it would be a good idea to just side-step the potential (and existing ) confusion, and also name /em plotting "Hmmm..." on the menu.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Very nice work and thank you for testing this extensively!
I'm not positive that you don't already know this, but "/em plot" is also a proper command for the same animation as "/em scheme".
Where-as "/em plotting" (As you said) is also a proper command for "/em hmmm".

If you were just suggesting that "plot" and "plotting" should not be used for the quick chat, then my apologies (Not a terrible suggestion).

Seeing as I use "/em plot" a lot for one of my characters, I just felt obligated to say that it is a proper command and such (So, there's no issue with them labeling that animation as "plot").

    Anyway!!

    Thanks again!
  16. It was great fun and I'll go through and see if I have any nice screenshots (Pretty sure I do)!
I just wanted to come here quickly and thank everyone for stirring up a different kind of fun for the night/weekend! (And to see the official tally)

No. It never occurred to me that Silver mantis had spines. The ones I made are very basic, conical, metal spikes.

I am not a hotshot modeler/texture artist, so I prefer to work on the basic looking stuff that can accept a broad range of character concepts being projected on to it. My opinion is that the more specific and detailed you get with something like this, the more narrow it's potential for fitting a lot of character concepts become.

Similiar sort of philosophy for all of the shields and weapons I personally modeled. Except for the Rularuu stuff.

Just speaking in general here... I just love that.
I think that angle is so true and works really well (At least for making a gamer like me happy).

Oh, sure. Some specific artwork can be great as well.
However, especially in video games such as this, I absolutely prefer a more generic look that can then, as you said, allow the user to better project their own imagination unto it.

Now, I know you're just speaking off the cuff of your own personal work and taste.
I just thought I'd add that I find this is especially true for character models (faces and such) as well. And I get nervous whenever I hear about graphical upgrades and such for a game I enjoy.
(Especially after a certain other game I used to play... a long time ago... in a galaxy... eh, you know... made some major visual changes to existing player characters, claiming it was an upgrade... Which I did not see as such, hehe)

    "Holy Side Track, EK!"

Anyway, I really only replied simply because I love that mentality, Mr. Brawler!

  18. I think it'd be cool to keep any future veteran rewards like these two.

I'm not complaining (I know what it's like to be "here since launch" and it's nice to get a little recognition from the company for that).
I just think that, yeah, there's a long wait for many cool rewards as it is. Piling up much more can be disheartening to newcomers.

So, yeah... these types of rewards I could see continuing and being good for the CoH vets and the game.

I just would kind of hate to see any new costume parts and such be given (Well, maybe something very very specifically signature to CoH/V for the next year milestone).

Seriously though... I think these are good rewards.
    That's just my opinion.

Not that I don't think the devs have a right to post such like

Clicking on a post within the Dev Digest is just checking and seeing what one of the members of the dev team had to say.
I appreciate that and enjoy it.

Hehe... This reminds me of a Peter Sellers comedy album.

One of the tracks is titled, "Peter Sellers sings George Gershwin".

  23. The thing you don't want to do is completely preclude (Nor make it too much of a hassle for) people to take a level 1 character right to the AE.
    Why?
Because the AE is an excellent tool to use for creating and running character/team campaigns entirely designed around specifics pertaining to those characters.
Is this an attraction for all players?
    No
However, it sure is a big attraction of the AE concept.

Actually, here is my problem with the "AE".
The very fact that we're calling it AE and not the Mission Architect...
    Why?
The entire idea of making the Mission Architect part of this virtual reality cooperation (AE) with AE buildings and all of the super conveniences that were listed in this thread (immediate vacinity of contact, mission door, inspirations, hospital, selective drops!!!) really goes against the practical application many of us expected before the "AE" slant was announced.

The missions should have sent you to a specified type of door (Chosen with the system that the scanner missions use).
People also shouldn't have to go to some virtual reality arcade to do these missions.

    These are just my opinions...
However, it is somewhat funny to me that these were issues I (And others) had with the whole AE slant and the manner in which they were implementing the MArc (The whole AE building thing was quite a shock to me).

I can see needing a special place to create a contact (Although I strongly believe they should allow a Base item to serve for this as well).
I'm not sure why they didn't want the AE missions competing with Scanner missions for doors/mission entrances. Maybe it would be too big of a conflict?

    The kicker is...
If they had shied away from making the big fancy AE buildings that now serve as central hubs for teaming...
The mass usage and content of the MArc would likely have been more focused on what the "true goal" of the system was about: Creative Stories/Missions made by the players for the players, for the enjoyment of the stories/missions/action tailored for the player's tastes, character's concepts, and/or certain playstyles.

Maybe the farming ways would have spilled over, regardless.
However, without the central hub, I doubt it would have become so prevalent.

All that being said... I'm not trying to rail against the Devs nor am I crying doom or really complaining about what the playerbase is doing with the AE stuff.

My only concern is really that they never make changes to preclude players from being able to partake in a group of characters that progress entirely through AE created content that is 100% designed around their concepts. That requires xp, funds, drops and full access from level 1.
That is a huge selling point to the MArc concept.

The arcade location was the first strike against that (But easily overcome... Just go there and have the fun once inside the missions. It would just have been greater to not have to overcome that, but it's just a little suspension of immersion for some).

Would moving it out of Atlas Park really accomplish much?
    Villains use Cap Au Diable.

    *shrugs*

I like the ideas of boosting story arc bonuses (and finally giving that bonus to all team members) and mission complete bonuses.

Some sort of xp cap per AE mission... Is a good idea in theory, but very difficult to find the correct number. It's a dangerous game there... and if set at the correct number, would probably not stop what is going on. If set too low, it could kill the fun of those not abusing things (And are boss missions abusing things anyway?).

I do think guiding people towards other content before new -players- (Not characters) get swept up into the AE arcade madness is a great idea... I'm just not sure how to accomplish that.

Some sort of super compelling and exciting first mission available (But not required) at the start?
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Head sliders can be reset by being on the head selection, clicking shape, then hitting reset or going back to the first, default shape, if I remember correctly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't mean setting back to a default head slider setting. I mean resetting back to what the character's modified head sliders were before loading a saved costume.
Hit Reset the way it is now and it only resets the body sliders.
The head sliders remain at the positions taken from the loaded costume (Again, this is much better than not being able to load the head sliders... However, I'd imagine they want both body and head sliders to go back to the settings of the character actually visiting the tailor)
It's not a huge issue, but something I figured I'd point out.

An example for these features would be if someone were to want to put an existing character into someone else's costume (But retain their own sliders).

By having the costume file of that desired costume... And then loading that costume at the tailor... The body and head slider positions from the saved costume would load over the existing character's. Then, if that person only wanted the costume and not the slider settings, hitting reset only puts the body sliders back to the existing character's settings. The head sliders remain as the loaded costume file's settings.

Of course... If you want the costume, just pick the colors and make it yerself... I know, I know. I'm only pointing this out.
