Ah man. While I may not have been thrilled about that exact change, I hate to see ya run into something like that.

Since you're just looking for stuff to do... How about an emote for the sonicstun animation where the character holds their head (in pain)... My chronic-migraine villain, Malfaz would like that... and it seems like something you could relate to right now!
  2. Good choice with the face... That's the face I gave my Vampire

I hear what you're saying about the want for color, but the color being too much when you do it.

I often try using the darkest of the reds, blues and purples/magentas, etc.

A lot of items are just too bright. And, honestly, black is the only black. No matter how much we may try and make cases for not "needing" to use black.. It still doesn't make it wrong to do so (nor lame).

It's a somewhat standard/prototypical look you have going there... but that is what you wanted.
It looks good. I like it. I, personally, would probably tone down the physical size slider a bit, however, that's totally up to the user/creator.

I like the black hair, but white is a fine option as well (Again, user's choice, as far as I see... neither looks right or wrong to me).

If I could log in and mess with it now, I'd try out some of those dark colors as the main color for the jacket right now, but I'd not be surprised to find that I didn't like it as much as the black (Could be wrong though).

The Occult option for the cape gives such a great quilted texture on the inside of the cape... It would look terrific for the costume. I wish you could get that interior without the exterior getting the skull and occult design. I'm sure you knew this, though. Perhaps, like I often decide, you just didn't want that occult skull pattern on the back of the cape.

I actually like the look of the warrior shouldermapads on there.
It's a bit more, comicbook/videogame -I'm a fighting vampire- looking, but that's what you're after (me thinks) and I think it looks good!

I like classic standards sometimes (I've even made villains with twisted mustaches and black hats). It's fun and there are reasons for standards and I also like to do my best to represent that standard as best as can be (Which is the uncommon part). It's funny when "old standards" just end up being copied by people who don't hold up to the actual standards.
Hrm, that sounds wrong... not as though I mean there should be no originality... quite the opposite really... It's just, to me, a matter of not the majority of people faltering to common and current trends and slipping out of the classic and more-fitting nature of certain standards.
I'm not finding my words on this very well... But Jedi who are true Jedi and not some cool due guy with a lightsaber comes to mind as a classic example.

    Anyways...

Maybe try some pink? You never see enough Vampires in pink!

Oh, but seriously, the quilted cape, more attempts at some color... maybe a pattern on the chest? And... a hood for a second costume is a good idea.

Now, what weapon(s) will he use?
  3. All I wanted to do was state my opinion, not trying to convince anybody of anything, nor do we need to debate which is better, who's right or wrong or who's mother made the better cake (I'd say pie, but someone would twist it around).

    I just had to say...

    ...
Haha, why do you think you've seen this and I haven't?

Anyways... I'm not going to come here and post a whole bunch of replies trying to defend my tastes nor debate about this.

It's simple. I didn't think they'd remove the animation from combat and I like it... However, if they take it out, it's not going to kill anything for me.
Hopefully (if the Devs don't have any opposition to doing it, as its their decision on such a thing) the majority wins (Which is surely for the removal of redraw).

I have no problem with that. I just wanted to voice my opinion on it. Whatever way anyone else thinks about it, majority or minority, doesn't influence my opinion.

When Babs said "...even putting aside the aesthetics of a physical weapon just instantly appearing in your hand..." I thought for sure that that aesthetic element was an obstacle they weren't in favor of knocking down. *shrugs* Guess they think it looks good!

Also... I trust Babs and this team.
What they choose to do will very likely work well and look good.

Have your glory, I will miss redrawing my bow in-between my secondary attacks.

(If/when it fixes Spines... that is a major victory I can't refute!)

You know, seriously, I offered my opinion in a mature and intelligent manner. It's no big deal.
Don't lump me in as some whiner because, Oh, I only voiced my displeasure after Babs said he figured out a way.

Should I post threads about every thing in this game that I wouldn't want to see changed... just in case a Developer might announce a change before I've voiced my opinion on it?

As for the other comment about, stay out of range and, voila, redraw animation... that hardly works for when you're in the middle of a fight and you switch between attacks that causes redraw, hehe.

Anyways, it is the Developers' choice on such matters.

I just never thought they'd remove redraw by simply removing the animation. That's all.
  5. Huh...
I have to admit, I don't really care for the idea of getting rid of the redraw animations... I'd like to see the ability to keep a weapon out when using other non-weapon attacks (But I understand how this is an arduous task and don't expect to see it happen... if it ever does... cool/yay/hi-5)... but... making it so that my character puts away the weapon to fire off a different sort of attack and then just has that weapon reappear... is less appealing to me than what we currently have.

I honestly never understood that, when people were talking about "redraw issues" they were referring to the animation of redraw... I thought they were just sick of their weapon being put away for other attacks.

Hrm... Just posting my opinion that the aesthetic of the redraw is one I enjoy and would likely find unappealing with insta-magic-poof-reappearing weapons.

Whatever my opinion is worth, it's posted, at least!

  6. More proofs!

Honestly... I thought you had the many proof you needed already.

  8. Now Sam, remember you did ask how would we make a vampire. It's cool to focus on your own slant as well, but let's not lose sight that there's more than one way to skin a politician... er cat.

Yeah, Primal, I was going to point out the same things... The option of claws, even the flat blade variety (Could work well as a sophisticated set of blades cleverly set up on the forearms... or magical artifacts.... or represent something natural)... but then I was also going to point out that the claws stance just doesn't entirely work (Although, claws can indeed work for a vampire for someone... let's face it, there are a lot of working options).

For the frontline bad ****, I'd say Brute (Or Scrapper if one wanted to be on blueside for now)...
Katana/DA is great... DM/DA is great...

    Anyways... I have a DM/DA Brute...
So, when I made a vampire (More from the 1921 Nosfaratu / Bram Stoker Dracula... maybe a tiny bit of Lost Boys... sort of)... I actually ended up making a Dark/Pain Corruptor.

Now, I'd never had a corruptor before. So, I'm not all that familiar with how each AT plays out. They seemed damaging and powerful enough to me at the time, at the low levels I've played them.

I play the character in a duo... two Dark/Pain Corruptors (nearly the same build on both... just a few individual choices).
We have a blast playing them. We feel pretty damn powerful when we do it (haven't pulled them out in a bit though, this is making me want to, hehe).

Clearly, most everything is represented with those powers.

I still think I could go with a Dark/Dark Brute or a Kat/Dark Brute (maybe claws) plus GW patron powers.

    For my Vamp:
I took Hurdle and Health and Stamina (The hurdle instead of swift, simply because having that ability to naturally jump so much higher feels SOOO right).

I took Flight. I do have a demon-bat monster form, but they also fly in human form. Since getting the science booster, I may mess around with other options.

I took stealth, invis and phase shift (I think).
And we went for GW's Patron Powers.

Based on my DM/DA Brute... I really think Cloak Of Darkness works well.
The one thing about both the Dark/Pain Corruptor and the DM/DA Brute is that the feel of those powersets really work well for the feel I wanted and like as a vampire.
I get the feeling that would hold true with a Katana/DA as well (I was really close to choosing that myself).
Dark/Dark Brutes have a very strange and cool, messing-with-your-victim feel, that works quite sinisterly... and if I didn't already have one, I very likely would have chosen it for the Vamp.

And nothing feels so good as when I steal/drain the last bit of health out of an enemy with my corrupter vampire. It's like the feeding.

And we even use some of the Pain buffs only as a feeding frenzy state sort of thing.

I have a nice cape and top hat outfit.
However, I've found myself usually wearing the hooded cloak outfit.
I cant seem to just ignore the sun thing with vampires (Just doesn't feel right to me).

So, I always stay covered up with the hood in daylight... And with this game's crazy day/night cycle... It seems like the time out-of-the-hood and cloak, while outdoors, is very infrequent, hehe.

However... I distinctly recall dropping the hood while feeding on all the Carnies in St. Marshal in the dark... It felt sooooo very right somehow.

Pretty sure a Dominator version could work in there too.

It definitely depends on the aspect that the player wants to exemplify.

    Now... Here's the real question...
    What origin?

Natural - A Vampire's powers are a part of the nature of a Vampire. SImply... a Vampire's powers are natural for a Vampire.

Magic - A Vampire's power comes from a magical curse/pact. Possibly a curse from a god-like being, sent down upon a powerful mortal that defied that greater being so vehemently, the mortal gained both a curse and terribly great power.

Mutant - A Vampire's powers come from a mutation that passes from one to another, through the blood. Somewhat like a disease that mutates the formerly normal being and gives them super powers... Or is that Science?

Hehe... Honestly, the origins can be used and explained in so many different ways for many concepts (not just Vampires).

Sometimes I pick an origin based on what inherent power I'd want that character to have. Throwing knives seems right for some characters, regardless of the origin of their power.
Other times, I try to fit the guidelines the game provides for the origins and work with that.

    What origin is your vampire?
Seems like they could be anything but tech (And, sure. someone could come up with justification for giving their Vampire a tech origin as well... but traditionally speaking... it seems like any but tech could work)
  9. Speaking of Superman, there was another game that got this somewhat right, if I recall correctly... Superman: Shadow Of Apokolips.

I'm pretty sure there were bosses to fight though, but I think they were more on that planetary Superman scale.
Honestly, I rented it back when it came out and finished it in one or two days of play. So, my memory of it is somewhat poor at this point... Other than I enjoyed it, seemed to think it was a surprisingly good video game representation of being Superman (Being the Level Boss), but was short enough to finish too quickly (Not bad for a rental though). It was good enough that I still kept it in my head to buy some time, but never did.

I may have to check out Lungfishopolis, hehe.
Oh, and I didn't go and work on a MArc yet, but I will let you know if I think I get something worthy.
  10. Yes yes yes and yes!
    Hehehe...

Don't get me wrong, it's great (as Sam points out) to be the one fighting against the boss as well... I just love being on the opposite side too. And love the thought of having more options for that in CoH.

In fact... I have to check out this Mercedes Sheldon mission. I don't remember ever doing that!
And... I've made some attempts in the MArc to accomplish this, but I don't think I've set it up quite that well with this full concept in mind.
I think I am going to run and do that right now, heehee!

That is a beautiful thing about CoH and the Mission Architect... perhaps we can, at least, come close to capturing some of this feel within this game.

Sure, we can go to lower level zones or something, but that's not nearly the same.

    And, beyond CoH...
The idea of playing a game where I'm an enormous, slow, stiff moving powerhouse fending off against pesky tiny agile heroes... Well, I think someone should make a whole game where you play as each of the level bosses of famous games of the past!

Haha, that could be a blast!

And... I remember really enjoying that first Hulk game that seemed to get it right (I cannot remember what the title was). That was a fun time. You had to endure some Banner missions in-between the fun smashing (And I only say "endure" because the HULK SMASH bits were so much damn fun).

Yeah, that was one of the few times I can remember a game coming close to getting it right about a different sort of concept for your character's "life energy". (Although, I think we even had to change the settings in that game to make Hulk as tough and monstrous as can be, for it to feel better).

A game doesn't necessarily have to be about being vulnerable. Failure can come in other ways beyond getting hit and losing health.

And yes, the single enemy behind the mountain of hit points is a bit disappointing for my enjoyment. Giant Monsters are one thing... but I'd love to see something different and more dynamic for epic AV (Or whatever) battles.

No knock on CoH, just saying!

    Definitely, great topic, Sam!

Oh hey... The NES Mike Tyson's Punchout was practically an entire game of nothing but level boss fights. That was a good example of the fun of it (Learning the exact tricks needed for each individual foe).
  11. Regardless of opinions and preferences regarding teaming and tells, that reply of theirs was uncalled for. And, like others have said, it's a bit pathetic of them and no loss to you. It is odd when some over-reactionary twit freaks out and puts you on ignore (Or claims to). Me? Me.. on ignore?? Wha??
    Ah well!

I personally never send random tells for a spot on someone else's team (my playstyle, however, isn't exactly in the majority, for certain), but, so long as the sender takes the step of actually typing out a polite inquiry, I have zero problem with being asked, no matter what I am doing. I also have no qualms with telling people "no", so I think that can be an issue for some, hehe.

Seriously though... when any interaction online is more than "got n e room?" or "can I join team?"... and I love the "hi" from a stranger...

Yeah, anyways... I can understand the guy's frustrations, no doubt.. but a tell like yours is the last person deserving such a response.

    - My 2 influence plus tax

Oh... and happy gaming... no worries, bad interactions happen. At least there was no chance for physical harm!
  12. Thank you for making and sharing this (I should say that on behalf of CoH, hehe)!

Forget the nice job you did with the demo editing and some cool techniques (The way you got him hanging in the holding cell, on the operating table, etc) and the movie editing (The mirror effects and all) and forget about what models you did or didn't have access to...

You got the dramatic content so wonderfully, it has created that rare happenstance of me not being sure how to express myself about it!
We all know (Just as you do) that you have the know-how and the tools to demo edit, movie edit, etc... We both know that anyone with the tools and the knowledge can get that stuff going (Sure, not everyone will come up with the clever ideas here and there, but shush!)...
It is in the message chosen, and the dramatic delivery of that message, that makes a piece of work stand out.

That's my personally highly rated opinion on that (haha) and I think this teaser achieves the intrigue and anticipation you want from a "teaser", while planting a deeper seed in the mind pertaining to the subject matter.
That seed you planted so wonderfully inspires thoughts, ideas, concepts and excitement... And that all leads to people wanting to take part in being able to follow through with these ideas in CoH.

    Blahhh...
Short Version: Great message and angle on the Going Rogue expansion. As far as I am concerned, it could have been a blank screen with those words and it would have been pretty damn good. Add the music and the images and you kicked *** on this one.

  13. I understand the thoughts behind this complaint and agree that low levels seeking to be Power-Leveled in RWZ is no good.

However, I am much more in favor of less limitations and player behavior controlling things.

Team leaders may need to not invite the low levels (With their own discretion, of course)... But, certainly need to kick the defeated leaches.

It's indeed a shame whenever common sense can't prevail among people... But yeah, I do love the freedom of being able to bring along friends and family without hitting that, "Dratz, we can't go there together".

Although, I think RWZ is the least needed for that (Still, I'm in favor of keeping the no level limit).

AE in the D would be great, yes. I do wonder if there are technical reasons for it not happening. We can get special door missions from the Valentine event... So, maybe it wouldn't be that technical issue in the D... maybe it is indeed the amount of characters? I really don't know, I've just wondered and saw Lumi's post wondering the same thing.

Here is the one thing that makes me truly consider that a limit for RWZ could be in order...

If the zone is being filled too quickly in times of a Mother Ship Raid.

Team Leaders being smart, forming and maintaining teams that are efficient enough is a pretty simple fix to the one problem.
However, if the zone is getting filled with too many low levels looking to be power-leveled... then that's a problem that smart leadership can't entirely defeat (Trying to move the whole event to RWZ2 isn't really a great option).

    *shrugs*

I think that might be 2 influence worth...
  14. Pardon me for budding in here...
But 9.727 Billion influence passed around!

If only I had a league of villains on Victory to pull off a grand heist!!
That was the chance of a lifetime!!

Hehe... Congratulations to everyone, sounds like it was a great time!
  15. Is it possible and/or in consideration to allow players to add PvP options into AE maps and/or use AE-Like options for the Arena?

  16. Another thing about the unique naming system.

Remember, these names are officially registered in the game's lore.
You know that ID card you see when you go to your personal info screen and/or to register the character.

Whammo... that's why you enter your name there.
That's what they put on your license.
They apparently refuse to have registrants with identical identities.

    I'm a role-player on Virtue as well.
I can't say I have problems coming up with names due to any names being taken (There are a few that aren't being played and I would like to see them opened up, but whatever!).

    Mask_Of_Many,

    Quote:
Now, some of you don't like the idea of no longer having a unique name, and that's understandable. You enjoy knowing that nobody else can have what you do.
The problem is that it's not a good reason to not implement the system.
    ...
Saying "but it's mine and I don't want to share!" just seems greedy.
I'm going to take this and change it to fit the opposing side (Not to be snide and not to "win" the argument, hehe), just because it's not something that either side can use to trump the other:

"Now, some of you don't like the idea of keeping unique names, and that's understandable. You would enjoy knowing that you can have any name you want.
The problem is that it's not a good reason to implement the system.
    ...
Saying "but I want someone else's name because there's no need for it to be unique!" just seems greedy."

I understand you were just trying to make some points for opening up non-unique names, but yeah, while I think some valid points against were missed, I also just think there's at least equal resistance against it as there is want for it. More so, it is my opinion that the unique naming system is a good thing. There is only one true Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, Electric-Knight, Wolverine (And so on) at a time.
Variants can be done with the different costumes... because they'd still be taking that slot of that character name... not a different toon with the same name.

Eh, really, everyone could argue about this back and forth, but those elements boil down to matters of opinion.

The facts seem to be that there is no way to handle chat properly without including the global names. Period.

What you are suggesting above is something that if either dev team implemented I would publicly call their sanity into question.

In fact, I think that's so bad of an idea that I'm confident even if a dev on either team thought it was a good idea and tried to implement it, the idea would eventually be killed by someone in the loop. Either a designer would veto it, or a publisher would shelve it, or a programmer would conveniently forget to code it. Its that level of bad.

That's what the data showed.

Again, let me say this again: there aren't nearly as many "good" names tied up in characters susceptible to purges as people think. That's what all of the purges done so far have shown.
I completely understand what you are saying and what you said before.
We could go on (in agreement) to point out this and that (Fallacies and truths) about such names and whatnot...
However, the point still is that there are names out there that some would like and are not being used, but are locked up by never-to-be-used-again trial accounts, inactive accounts and all.

Datamining is nice and all, but that doesn't mean that some of the names that were above level 6 didn't make some players extremely happy.

And about the "Being cut off at level 6 is not so good.":
The datamining stats also don't take into account the continued quicker leveling this game has seen (Don't even think about ignoring the amount of 30-50 level characters banged out of the AE and are now lost on never-to-be-reactivated accounts... And, I know, I'm sure there are plenty of terrible names there, haha).

A lot of name hunters do try contacting the global handles of the name holder.
While not every player is going to bother to respond, many will respond to polite inquiries about the character name in question. Several never hear a thing back. Hey, several current players knew the player of that now-inactive account and can attest to their long inactive status.

There is no way that some names wouldn't be taken from name purges.
Whether or not the total would be enough to make it worth the company's time (And any other possible repercussions) is a subjective matter (For them to decide).

Don't get me wrong... I know a name purge won't bring the Shangri-La of name choices that many players would like.
I do, however, think that there would be some benefit.

    Yep, I agree.
No need to genericize all the names. The names are just opened up to being used. If chosen, the character will need a free rename (Just as the system currently works). Other than that, I fully agree with P_P's proposal.

As far as "no good names" vs "lots of good names".
Yeah, it's all subjective and it doesn't hit the point, in my opinion.
The point is there are names out there that some would like and are not being used, but are locked up by never-to-be-used-again trial accounts, inactive accounts and all.
Being cut off at level 6 is not so good.
And... with the propensity of bad names (By some of our opinions, since it is only opinion), we're not only talking about universally great names being unnecessarily tied up... But also not-so-great names (by some people's opinions) that someone might currently want.

    If ya follow my drift.

Universally good (Possibly standard/generic/obvious) names are not all that are wanted.

Someone may have been wacky enough to name their character Icky Bob Booger Brain. And that was Fred's character since he was playing tabletop RPGs at 12 years old.
Well, if that wonderfully terrible name is tied up by an inactive account... I may not like the name myself, but I will fight to the defeat (Not death, sorry) to defend Fred's right to claim it as his and dance (So long as he is not streaming the video on the internet... and so long as I don't have to watch).

*That last bit was not entirely serious

**That note about the last bit not being entirely serious was also not entirely serious, although the message was indeed true.

***The previous message is a lot more serious than the first notation, however, at this point, the poster hopes it is obvious that all of the above ramblings are indeed littered with humor and silliness, including the previous notation as well as this particular one I am typing right now.

****"typing right now" is a statement in which the present tense usage is entirely relative to the moment in which I was typing it... and not indicative of some strange anomaly wherein I am somehow creating the text at the moment you read it. Nor am I continuously typing those words, so as to actually be in the process of re-typing those words as you (and others) read them. Or... am I?

Yeah, I'd like to see a larger name purge again. Whether or not it would free up any spectacular (Personal opinion) names for myself, I think it'd get someone some names they've wanted.

    <.<

    >.>

    What?

  20. Hmmm... The Atari 2600 Superman game had flying in it and laser beam eyes.

I've been holding my tongue until now... but yeah... blatant rip off!!!

Not going to touch all the stuff about paying for extras and all (not getting into that)...
The only thing I think is a new concern is special animation styles for certain powers... And whether or not that will affect/limit potential power customization.

In other words... different run styles and even leaping animations are something that would be terrific for power customization.

    • Would having the Ninja Run being a special booster power prevent those amazing animations from being included in power customization options for other powers? (Sprint, Super Speed, Super Leaping, etc.)
    • Would Ninja Run ever be open to power customization or would it be deemed only ever going to have that particular animation style?

Not complaining nor doomsaying... just wondering aloud (or... through my fingers, at least).

Some great animation work being done over there, team!!

(Heh, and the costumes look pretty nice too, from the little I've seen thus far)

And yeah... fix those notes... I thought someone had clarified that it is supposed ot be granted at level 2 and the typo was with "sprint".

Now... why it is granted at level two... I can only imagine is to cut down on the amount of powers you get right off the bat??
I don't know... seems odd to me, but whatever! Makes little difference to me!

(Just means any "NPC"ish characters I make for a RP event/story will need one level if I want walk, hehe)

    Thanks and great job!!

HAH! Tell that to the developers of your "easy" digital life!!

So... what you're saying is... You're in favor of others doing all the work for you!!
Okay, now that I can get behind!

And... Excellent review! You've made me want to read this book!
Also, good job WW!! Sticking to it and writing a book is a great accomplishment in itself!
  23. So, I was pretty sure this information is out there (Or even in the documents I have saved somewhere on my pc), but I was unable to find it after a good while of searching.

I was looking to play with some specific scales on the character models in the demo editer...
Can anyone tell me which numbers in the COSTUME line represent the scale for the head width and the head height?
And... if you happen to know... what the scale ranges may be?

Can we exceed the normal scales with this?
I know the height scale can be set to extremes, but I'm not positive that scales, such as the head scales, can be set to extremes greater or lesser than what the costume creator allows.

So, if anyone has these answers, I'd love to hear them.
If not... It means a lot of time spent experimenting, hehe

Hehe, thank you for any help!
  24. Yep, we welcome any role-players who want to team up and have some fun : )
That's the best way to find out whether or not you'd enjoy playing together anyways, right?

We often do spontaneous RPing and interacting as well as making some quick OOC contact to set something up.
Whatever works, is wanted or is necessary

And, just a reminder... to any possible small sized super teams looking to start something up... The Paragon Universe is all about housing collections of creative, mature (The real "mature" not the tv/video-game rating version), fun role-players that can benefit from each other. The benefits including... having the base and the website and the forums and the camaraderie... And extending to having a ton of other creative minds to collaborate with... as well as just simply having more heroes of an ongoing world to regularly interact with.

If you use OOC designations when saying anything out of character... you just might fit in...
  25. Great to see some more quality people already joining with us!

Nice to meet a few last night!

If you're thinking about it... come on over!
I've been less active than I'd like to be lately, but we all know how that can go sometimes... The biggest thing is I love the quality of players and the great mature people we have in our SG.

And Chaos... I've been pretty convinced we'd get along fabulously. And besides that, I think you and the whole PU should be a great fit.

I tried to get you to make Alpha Squad a subteam of the PU originally, hehe

Anyways... The Science team sounds very interesting! I've been thinking about a FF type of team for a long while. Not sure that I'll actually whip anyone up for that...
I'll probably be keeping my focus on EK (An Independent within the PU)! And that dastardly Malfaz's involvement (See crazy guy in my avatar) should be wrapping up soon!

We're all about In-Character interaction, ongoing friendships/relationships/stories/mysteries, we have some great writers on our forums (We tell stories, cover events that have happened and set things up that will be happening), Easy-going (No AT pigeon-holing or major concerns... we want everyone to have fun, nothing else), AE writers, spontaneous, plotted and mixed bags of RP, action and everything in-between... A great base for RPing with full functionality... As well as a heap of friendliness OOCly and a lot of willingness to help people with whatever they may want to get up to.

I hope it doesn't sound like I'm selling... because I don't need to one bit. I'm happy with what we've got! However, I just figure there are others out there who'd like it just as much... So, I feel obligated to let you know!
