Log out of the forums and log back in with the second account!

I've got two accounts as well -- when I log into the forums from account #1, I only get the list of characters to copy FROM account #1.

If I want to copy characters from account #2, I have to log out of the forum, log in again as account #2, and then I get the list of characters from account #2.

In other words, the forum can't tell how many accounts you have linked together.

Edit: What Texas Justice said a little more eloquently up there!
  2. Depending on what I'm doing, I generally use the buttons to set my chat window to either "Team" if I'm teaming or planning on teaming, "League" if I'm running some sort of trial or waiting around for one to launch, and "Local" if I'm planning on doing a lot of RP.

I'm hate having to click a tiny button each time I have something to say in a different channel, so I've gotten pretty good at directing things via slash commands:

/g for Team or Group [since /t is for "Tell"]
    /l for Local
/b for Broadcast when looking for group or to add more players to an existing group
    /sg for Supergroup chat
...and I've finally started using a hotkey to bring up the "say PrivateChannel _______" command for a friend's private channel we use to set up teams.

That's probably 98% of my channel use on a given night, and I'll use buttons for the exceptions.

Even with the slash commands, I'll still usually manage to confuse myself in the heat of combat and mistell/mischannel some sort of remark at least once a night, but I've found that my mischannel comments INCREASE when I try to stray from my above system and try to use the channel buttons.

My advice on this part is to get out there, meet new people and team with them!

As you can probably tell from the forums, this game has one of the friendlier player bases of the MMO's I've played in the past, and most of us are still very aware that we were ALL new players at one time. If your "highest level characters have just reached 20" you're no longer newbies and have some idea of what you're doing, so go join a bigger team (or create one and pick up some other players) and see how much fun things can be on a big team!

While I haven't personally played much on Union, I hear it's a lot like Virtue, so you might have more trouble finding bigger teams villain-side. If that indeed turns out to be the case, it might be time to roll up some new heroes, run through a sewer trial and see what heroics you can get to with some of the other trial members afterwards.

But it sounds like you're having fun so far, so keep doing what's working in that regard!

Then they need to fix the damned copy tool already! People rushing to check out the new issue shouldn't be a surprise to anybody.

Based on the rest of this thread, though, and especially the comments from the last week, it's pretty obviousl that the copy tool STILL has some major hiccups.

But wouldn't it be great if one of the "red names" could keep us informed of what's going on? You know that they're not ALL code monkeys who are physically fixing bugs or rebooting the servers!

Maybe someday they'll have some sort of cool new technology in place -- things like internet access from home, or maybe some sort of "smart cell phone" so they could access the internet while they're stuck in traffic or in the line at the drive-through getting their morning caffeine!

...wait, home internet access was sort of obscure in the early 90's, but in 2004 when the game launched?! And how many people overall have "voice-only" cell phones nowadays, let alone those people in tech businesses?

Seriously, how hard can it be to slap together (or copy and paste) a post about server maintenance?

Regarding that defective Server Status page, they should either fix it (unlikely) or simply just do away with it completely. As it stands, it's like a broken analog clock that still manages to be right twice a day.

    Editing Base

Sounds like a computer issue more than a base issue -- my first guess would be something memory related. She might want to first try turning some of her graphics settings down a few notches.

If that doesn't work, from the Technical Issues and Bugs forum, here's how to post the system specs from your wife's computer that will help help out the tech types around here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=231628

A COH Helper file and a Hijack This log [from that above link] will go a long way to give people the answers they need to come up with your answer -- good luck!

I like analogies, especially car analogies, and I've likened character building and Mid's tweaking to old-school hot rod building. Some people show up with clunkers that need a lot of work, some people show up with almost-show-quality cars but want to cram a supercharger under the hood, and most show up with something in between.

Icantres brought kind of a clunker in here, but at least it had potential! I think _Pine_ is discouraged by those OTHER people last month who've shown up with the completely unidentifiable rusted-out shells, one motorized skateboard, a broken Cuisinart bolted to a hubcap, and the one guy who brought the pony.

Once the last person left the TF, I got booted out of it. So my question is, I know you had to have at least 6 people to start the TF, but how did you not get booted out of it?
From everything I've read on the subject, at least one person has to simply "log off" rather than hitting the "quit taskforce" button. That way they're still on the team, even though they're not physically "there."

I keep wanting to grab four random cooperative players and use my second account as the "logged off, not quit TF" player but haven't had a chance to do so yet -- hopefully I'm understanding this game mechanic correctly before I waste anybody's time.

Obviously, that's the problem with taking farming to an extreme and gimping a character for "regular content." But as you said, that's where you can use dual or triple builds!

I try to use set IO's to build well-rounded characters that can solo almost all "regular content" at increased difficulties at level 50. As a result, they can usually exemp down and breeze through lower level missions on 0/1 without breaking a sweat -- and it's my perception that I can easily keep up with [and faceplant less than some] people who only have SO's at that level.

Personally, I've never really seen the need to make special "exemp builds" for TF's so I'll continue to get set bonuses at level 25 or 35 or whatever -- if I'm on a TF that means that [unless I get scrapperlock and wander off] there's going to be other people on my team, and they'll have buffs, and debuffs, and that means my character should still be at least as viable as any strictly SO build.

Your mileage may vary, but if you're exemping down for a TF, most normal players aren't going to expect that your brute will be triple-softcapped or maxed on resists, NOR expect you to go solo entire rooms plus the AV! Your second build with generic level 50 IO's will probably be just fine for exemping since you're not going to be losing any set bonuses from generics, and because they'll "scale down" to your exemped level.

    Low framerates?

This game's computer requirements have changed quite a bit over the years, as the devs continue to make the game keep up with the graphics of newer games. A while back I dug out my vintage 2004 CoH box and posted the "old" and "new" requirements here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...6&postcount=13 To quote someone else in that thread, "You can't think of this as a seven year old game. It is indeed seven years, but the game has gone through significant changes, and that apparently includes what minimum hardware you can get away with using."

As far as technical help goes, this link to "Guide: Asking for Help on the Technical Forums" will give you (and the technically inclined members here) more information on the internal specifics of your new laptop: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=231628 While I personally can't read through a CoH Helper or Hijack This log and instantly see the problem, there are plenty of people here who CAN, and who can hopefully help with your framerate issue if you give them the information they need!

I've been using 'targetcustomnext' to find things, since if there's multiple whatevers, each keypress will jump to the next one. In this case, if there's two TA defenders on a team and we both fire off Oil Slick, I can pick which one I want to ignite. (Maybe that works the same way with targetname -- I've never tried it.)

I use '/bind numpad0 targetcustomnext oil' to FIND the Oil Slick, then just mash the regular ol' key for Blazing Arrow to light it, thus avoiding all those unnecessary complications with macros.

Based on the rest of the thread, this probably isn't the issue, but like the old cartoon goes , I can't stand it when someone on the internet is WRONG. [ http://xkcd.com/386/ ]

From Intel's support site, "A battery on desktop boards keeps the values in CMOS RAM active. The battery also keeps the real-time clock functioning when the computer is turned off." http://www.intel.com/support/motherb.../cs-002839.htm

I've had to replace the little wristwatch sized lithium batteries in three different desktops over the years when they started going out and causing all kinds of problems at startup. The first machine would just about get booted up and crash. "Bad power supply," said my friend who had his own small computer business. After changing the power supply for an old one he had laying around, and then replacing it with a brand-new one, he somehow deduced it was a BIOS issue or something before it crashed, replaced the battery, and that solved it.

About three years after buying my next PC, that one started having issues on startup as well, so we repeated the same process with power supplies and finally replaced the motherboard battery. That solved it again, and about four years later that was our first brainstorm when my third PC started acting up, and we fixed it that time without a trip to buy a power supply.

Again, I'm not saying that was the OP's problem, but if a PC is three years old or older, the mobo battery IS a possible $2 fix that might not even require a screwdriver.
  18. Gee,thanks -- I'd actually originally said:

The OP hadn't really specified what he meant by "in-game days" but that's the way I'd first read it. (And yes, paying for something that last 15 hours would be ludicrous.) Then I posted again and clarified it even further:

Which TYPES of inspirations are you having to use to stay alive? That will probably help narrow the problem(s) down a lot!

But without specifics, I'll take a few guesses: if it's blue inspies you have to use, you could probably benefit from a few End Reduxes here and there. "Tough" only has a Steadfast -KB in there, for instance, which might help explain using greens and/or orange inspirations as well.

Another thing that might explain green inspie use is the lack of Defense Debuff Resistance -- a couple of Hami-O's in Active Defense and choosing/running Grant Cover [yeah, even when solo] will help prevent cascading defense failure.

According to Mid's, your character's "just standing around" end use is 1.47/sec, the build I'm posting below's is 1.05. Your build's recovery is listed as 3.14/sec, mine is 3.31, plus I've got an extra Perf Shifter Proc in mine. I don't think mine is a "high end" build, though it might not fall under some people's definitions of "budget build" either -- no purples, three Oblit sets, two Hami-O's.

Again, though, what problems are you having specifically?

  25. The "60 day rule" was rescinded back in Issue 14, April 2009.

From Paragon Wiki: "Previously, at the time of server maintenance, any characters not logged in for 60 days would have their consignment items deleted. With the release of Issue 14 (April 07, 2009), this is no longer true." http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Consignment_House

From the Patch Notes archive: "Characters (on active accounts) who have inventories, bids or items for sale in the Black Market or in Wentworth's Consignment House will no longer have to log into the game within 60 days to avoid item or influence/infamy expiration.

"In-game Black Market and Wentworth employees will still give their friendly reminder, however if your account is "active", they won't take your "stuff"."
