You're looking to get that badge yourself, aren't you? Sneaky [censored].

Edit: You'll need to add one for reporting forums posts. It'd need to be linked to the account rather than a character, but so what?

If you want 'a little extra damage and some -Regen' you get a Controller, Corruptor or Defender. Those Blast sets and damaging Controls are there for a reason, you know?

Otherwise, I strongly dislike the Harry Potter style ability naming and conceptual stress on what people would perceive as Hermetic Magic. I see what you're trying to do, I just don't like it. It's, as has been said, conceptually limiting. AR is, too, to some extent, but with options like the Tommy Gun and Nemesis Rifle it still manages to cover a very wide area with regard to guns.

More relevantly, a rifle with built-in flamethrower is a concept you can 'get'. Hitting someone with a club/axe/sword/oversized Japanese knife is something easily gotten. Manipulating Fire, Earth, Ice etc. is easily gotten. Magic, wand or not, is a wide area with many possible definitions.

To demonstrate: This idea breaks apart the moment I ask whether these are one-handed wands as those of stage magicians and in the Harry Potter stuff or two-handed staves as found on Gandalf or Tim. Either would require its own kind of animation -- and I doubt they're willing to set up two alternate animation sets as that would set a bad precedent.

I haven't seen a genuinely dangerous environment in the game, save for a little lava. Part of villainy is having a base rigged with tricks and deadly traps, poisonous gasses, crushing rooms that cause desperation as the team looks for a weak point in the wall to evade death, etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There are some on that one Sea Witch mission v-side. Traps that just summon a pile of Controller pets on you if you get too near them. Very nifty.

Oh yeah the Legacy Chain seals. Totally forgot about those. The legacy Chain are so under utilized....

I should use them in a arc *runs off*

Nooo. Talen did that and I still resent him for it.

This is one of the reasons why I love the Hess TF.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unfortunately, it is the only real booby trap in the game. I cackle everytime some dumb twitchy player runs ahead of the team to trigger it. Of course then I need to find something to do for the next ten minutes.

Well, I guess exploding enemies might count. Spawns of Nemesis Jaegers all by themselves + Nova-happy Blaster = Hours of fun.

    Ah, a brewha post.

It diminishes my faith in scientific humanity, but raises my faith in the entertainment business substantially.

It increases my faith in mad scientific humanity, though. Someone's got to be Igor.

It certainly makes a grand case for eugenics either way.

  8. Strongly disagree. You already get enough unqualified people forming and trying to lead teams. Usually with bad results. On the flipside, there are enough teams where it is immaterial who has the star. Some people form teams to ease conversation between a small group while people go around and do other things.

I don't see any way this could have positive repercussions.

The solution is to nerf SS as it rightly deserves, then it will be ok to port over to Scrappers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That. I'm looking at making a new meleer and trying to come up with a justification not to go SS.
  10. So basically, your idea is to either rate it as 'I like this' or not at all?

Quite to my surprise, I could see that fly. Total rating requirements for certain badges would have to be adjusted down, but a binary solution ('good' or 'no comment') sounds fine.

Not sure how I feel on the genre thing. Superheroes kind of is its own genre, and the system is not flexible enough to do non-superhero non-violent missions anyhow. Even if you manage to properly present a mystery or documentary, it's still about shooting people in the face.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Adding new foes is a good idea.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nobody's arguing that point. More diversity is always more fun. It's just the particular implementation the OP lays out that I don't like. Mostly because a lot of his ideas don't make a lot of sense considering the background of CoX.

Also, some groups like Minions of Igneous and Bat'zul simply play a very small part in the game as it is. To put them in need of more diversity, you'd have to add more content featuring them, really.
  12. Is anybody aware of scythes ever having been used as weapons successfully in the real world?

The only examples I know, from German peasant uprisings, had their blades reforged to point forward rather than to the side. Remember that a scythe is a slashing weapon and the edge is on the inside of the curve. Properly animating a scythe would include a 1-2 second delay after every attack where you try to wiggle the blade free of your opponent.

There are a lot of cool polearms out there. Spears, tridents, glaives, halberds, naginatas and a bunch of other Asian ones. All of these would make for cool looking sets. Hell, I could even think of a worthwhile mechanic or two to make the sets unique. Scythes however are about as dumb as Pistol Scrappers.
  13. I've found that it heavily depends on your AT if they're an annoyance or sheer poison. Traditionally, the ATs that suffer the most from this are meleers who are built to take the hit and move on. Def builds don't care all that much and Blasters, Controllers, Corruptors, Defenders and MMs don't really care one way or another in my experience. (Granted, some might, but not the sets I'm playing, not even the heavily Recharge-dependent Kins).

Seems like you found a piece of paper to your rock.
  14. Troll Bra? Srsly? Most other names are okay to good, but Troll Bra? What were you thinking?

Otherwise I'm not sure all the ideas make sense.

Goldbrickers are exclusive to CaD, proper Clockwork actually only exist in Paragon City. Tons of Spoilers here, but there's a reason only CoH Clockwork appear to be building new ones.

Sure, there's Skulls in Mercy, so a Snake should be able to score some Dyne. But I don't know, it doesn't sit well with me. The Snakes claim to be high and mighty survivors of some ancient civilization. Shooting up junk would seem anathema to that stance.

There are Fire Thorn Casters and Behemoths with Fire Powers already, and Bat'Zul type enemies really don't play a large role in the game. Plain don't see the need for the Heretic.

Fire Maven? Biggest problem here is that the Cabal is all female while the Hellions are all male. Classical setups really. Feminist neopagans vs. macho street gang. They're literally fire and water. Can't see how they'd mix.

Trying to figure out how a Magmite/DE chimera would come to be. They'd essentially need to devour it first. Which would, well, turn it into a Devoured. Bedrocks are literally animated rock for all I know.

Vaz Abominations and Eidolons are already made from the parts of Superheroes if you read their fluff text. I wouldn't know where something made from bad quality Troll parts would fall in on that scale.

Tarantula Tanker? Uh. Despite the name I imagine a Freak Tank with a Fortunata welded to his back. No idea why. Seems technically doable. Not sure if they wouldn't need to code a new skeleton for this though. Which would kind of ruin the idea.

Magic is Magic. I don't really think you'd need an explanation for Midnight Squad 'wizards' to develop different powers. And the Winter Horde really doesn't need new enemies. Plus, since everyone gets to fight the WH it'd be silly if Heroes spawned Midnight Squad enemies to fight.

What I don't understand is why they allow rare and uncommon salvage to be purchased specifically, but common salvage is a roll. If the intent was to make common salvage the most expensive as far as price goes, this makes sense, but when I think "rare", I figure this is something that should be pricey- particularly when compared to "common" salvage. Well, unless we're talking about a steak.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have common salvage something you can buy specifically, and the rare salvage to be something which must be rolled for?

    [/ QUOTE ]

IMO, there are more uses for Common Salvage. They're also used in Common IOs for one (and yes, there still IS a market for certain Common IOs) and go into all varieties of Uncommon and Rare IOs. Uncommons are what? 1 per Uncommon IO and 1-2 per Rare IO? And then you have 1 Rare per Rare IO while 3+ Commons go into each of these?

Considering that even with AE Tickets, Rare IO Recipes are still not the norm, it's easier to get Rare and even Uncommon drops that will be entirely useless to you for a good bit, clogging up all your storage options. With the amount of Commons needed across various Recipes that's far less likely I'd argue.

Never mind that having a price for buying Rares puts a soft cap on Market prices. The real genius here though is that you can't set an entirely firm Ticket to Inf conversion rate. That will depend on each player themselves and thereby introduces an organic element. Every player has their point where they say '[censored] it, I'll just buy it with Tickets', different for everyone. Vendors plain can't speculate on demand vs. supply an human greed and stupidity anymore. Soft capped prices as it were.

Really, the more I see and do, the better I think this is for the Market as a whole.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
[Snipped Bill's huge Alchemical Silver example.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But you forget something here. What we're seeing right now is a bloated demand because there is more demand than supply. Assuming people are slowly figuring out to roll for Commons (which is not a given, granted), you'd have a few good days, and then you'd have saturated the bloated market. You'd still be making money afterwards, but not as much.

    High supply usually kills prices.

Also, for the record: Luckily, most sellers seem to still be reasonable people. I routinely place batch orders for Commons for 1k a pop and they fill out while I'm off doing something else. It's really just the buyers who've gone insane.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
It's common salvage. If you're doing any real amount of crafting or selling, you're statistically much better off taking the random roll, even if it's only about twice as much per item to pick what you want.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which is probably why we have things as they are. Should stable prices for Commons ever crack a million, we can rethink the issue. I'm still holding out for those particular AEdiots driving up the prices to get it and start rolling.

    The Ski Chalet

Long long time ago, someone (I think it was Samuel_Tow, but don't quote me on that) suggested having seasonal zones, with the Chalet being the Winter zone, obviously. They'd still be special cause they're not always available (only in their corresponding season), you'd get seasons in the game (which we don't otherwise have), and you'd get cool new places to socialize and do stuff.

No idea what the spring idea was, but summer would likely be a beach or small island, maybe with some jungle, and autumn would be Croatoa-like.

I still think this would be the best solution. Especially as it'd mean not clogging up the Chalet with new mini games. The ice slide is fun, but wrecks the look of the floating rock to me already.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Personally, I think the developers should regulate the prices by selling common salvage just like they regulate the price of common IOs by selling them at the University for a set price. Plus, that would create another advantage by having another influence sink in place.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The problem I see with this is that it might pretty much kill the market. If I can quickly grab all the stuff I need for an intermediate price, I'll probably not care to go get a teensy rebate at the BM.

Like I don't sell Common IO Recipes at the BM. Other than Vendor's credit, there's nothing in it for me. I usually get more Inf selling them... and the ones you can make money off of as IOs, I have memorized.

If there's no chance of a real Influence gain or getting something I can't safely get otherwise, there's no point in me going to the BM. Which, with Tickets allowing me to get the Uncommons and Rares I want and with some patience also getting me the Recipes I want much faster than real missions might, means the Market will come down to Purples and Tier 2 and Tier 3 Inspirations.

Which we don't really need a Market for.

Personally, I think retaining the randomness of Common Salvage was one of the smartest moves the Devs ever made. That said, I'm also sure that the Commons market will stabilize a bit eventually as more people figure out the next bit:

    [ QUOTE ]
(Buying common salvage with tickets is now a very intelligent thing to do honestly.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

You wanna know what's even better? Having had tons of Base Salvage stocked up just cause you couldn't bear throwing it away and the prices were too low to bother selling it. My Redside guy with the vanity base still has some 3k Brainstorm on him, and Commons are only 1 Brainstorm for a generic roll, 2 if you want to pick Science or Magic. Good thing I didn't blow it all on Magic Rares when I first got it. I would have but I plain ran out of storage.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
(I think these submaps are actually "below" the city map.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes. There used to be a bug where you could get under the Steel Canyon map and explore the University Campus before that was ever opened. The hole people used to get there has long since been closed (in fact, I think it only ever existed on the Test Server), so no need to go look for one.

The physical location of all inside buildings is pretty much exactly below the placement of the structure they correspond to. I'd gauge they're about as far removed from 'ground level' as the map ceiling is.
  21. Love how you pre-emptively attack anyone who might disagree with your post. Cause it IS a free market. The prices you see are, ultimately, the prices people are willing to pay. The market is set up in such a way that price gougers can be undercut by sane people. But only if the sane people aren't willing to shell out boatloads of cash.

Oh, and your toothpaste analogy doesn't work because the creation of toothpaste is something companies can control almost infinitely. If you bought up all the toothpaste in the world, the toothpaste producers, noticing the sudden surge in toothpaste demand would step up production. There'd be a tiny bottleneck where you could make a killing, maybe even a stockpiling frenzy, and then... Toothpaste would flood the market from all the overproduction, and you'd be sitting for everything you didn't get rid off in the meantime.

'Production' of Common Salvage is not that controllable in CoH. You can only ever roll for it, or have it drop. So you're never guaranteed any particular Common piece of Salvage. The market is reflecting that. Some people might buy cheap to resell high, some might stockpile for lean times, and some just want a given piece 'rite nao', but can't get it to drop.

So they drive up prices with their demand. Pure capitalist economy at work. Once demand subsides, prices normalize again. Happens a few times a night, it seems.

At the same time, prices for Rares have dropped dramatically cause you can now buy them with easily available Tickets and prices for Uncommons are stabilizing at a higher rate than they used to cost it seems. People probably feel the Inf is better spent than Tickets in these cases. Luckily, there is no direct way to convert Tickets to Inf or just calculate an exchange rate.

Actually, I think it'd be cute to have an AE building on its own floating rock outside the D. Plus, the D is easier to get to, and you can go cruising right away once you're done farming.

The AE building in the RWZ does seem silly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Doesn't even necessarily need to be floating somewhere (although if there was a nice glass covered bridge leading out to it that might be kinda cool) it could just be built into the D like the monkey fight club and the vault have been.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, but that'd require another redesign cause you'd need to add more rooms to the D. Adding a regular old AE building on an extra floaty rock would only require them to either hijack one of the mission portals or add an extra exit somewhere. The actual AE building could then be placed elsewhere on the same map and not interfere with anything at the D per se.

  24. It's called a tradeoff. You want the advantages of, say, both Flight and Super Speed? Get both. Or hell, get SJ. Fast and you get height... you just can't keep it. See what they did there?
