But all my peeps are on this server! Why should I have to leave my peeps?
Please, think of the peeps!

Lots of things are too fast. I can never take super speed as a travel power, because I'm just not fast enough to control it. Sprint in a cave map is pretty bad; Sprint + Swift is nearly impossible for me. And random Speed Boosts in caves lead to auto-defeats by running smack into too many walls and knocking myself out.
One of the best parts of this game is the lack of twitch. -
I think CoH will still be here in ten years. Everquest is still running.
I still think the Veteran's Rewards are a bad thing. -
-
Considering the large number of badges recently rebalanced to make them more attainable by methods other than farming (including a rebalancing of just about all Villain accolades), I suspect the devs might see a problem with that as well.

Quote:So a year-long subscription and an extra $50-$750 dollars spent over that same year doesn't show "loyalty and dedication"? It's not like money falls off trees. I work to earn that money. When I give that money to NCSoft, I am demonstrating my loyalty and dedication to their product. It's not a matter of fair or unfair, it's a matter of loyalty and dedication.
Quote:I just feel that the Vet Reward progam is a good program and rewards those of us that are veterans of the game with a little something something as a way for the devs to say thank you for your loyalty over this time.
Free powers, exclusive costume pieces, and exclusive base items are more than a "little something". They exist to explicitly set apart Veteran's and Newbies. They're more than a "thank you". They're tools to create another class of player - a better class of player. The fact that, assuming the game continues into infinity, joining class is theoretically accessible to all does not make it any less discrimination.
This (or even this) is what a Veteran reward should look like, not this. -

Quote:It is. The Servant's a Defender, with defender mod numbers, and gets the full 25 ft radius, as opposed to the MM's 10 ft.And IIRC the Servant's heal radius is even greater than your own!
Given Pain Dom and Thermal, however, I think the justification for the tight radius on MM Twilght Grasp is weaker now, so we might successfully petition for a change.
And yes, I know that Twilight Grasp's heal is larger. It also requires a to-hit check. That balance is already in place between the power sets. The reduction in radius of the heal on top of that is really unnecessary. -

The difference, Energyman, is back before they added capes, no one had capes. Now, only veterans can have boxing gloves, or angel wings, or samurai armour. They're in the game, but for some inexplicible reason, large swaths of the player base are prohibited from accessing them. There is nothing we can do to earn them on our own schedule.
Veteran's Rewards are the only thing in this game (of significance - yellow titles, Con costumes and the like are insignificant compared to the very real in-game effect of Veteran's Rewards) that a player has no power over when, how, and what they earn. Veteran's Rewards literally reward nothing - not in-game effort, not providing income, not out-of-game behaviour. They are unique in the reward structure of the game - not only do they provide obvious and immediate benefits to players and characters, but they are also arbitrarily and inexorably denied to players that started playing the game later.
Veteran's Rewards are unfair. It is unfair to grant a section of players visible and meaningful benefits (which is how they are separated from any other benefits that have been brought up) that another section of players can do nothing to earn.
And please, refrain from the "but you can earn them, just keep subscribing" trite. That's not an answer - and you know it. -
It absolutely does not. Just the speed of health regeneration alone is proof that the game assumes you are more than human.

Quote:No it isn't. If it was, the fact that I've bought three add-on packs, extra character slots, and an edition upgrade this year all would count towards acquired "Veteran's Rewards", because such programs reward incoming business and not time played. It's like getting frequent flyer miles, or hotel miles, rental car miles, or a punch card at your favorite restaurant where your 10th meal is half off.
The fact that I bring NCSoft more money but get no boost to my "Veteran status" makes it very much unlike those programs you describe. -

Quote:You can either look at MMs as having around 3200 HP at level 50 (unmodified), or as having 75% resistance to everything - which their own resistances stack with (multiplicatively, so they can get a further 75% reduction of the 25% left, for a "net" resistance around 94%.)EDIT: I would like to add that I have heard that Masterminds tend to fill the role of Tankers on Villain-side fairly often since they can distribute damage they receive between all of their minions, giving them higher HP values than initially perceived.
Master Minds were probably intended as the "Tanks", but Redside mechanics simply don't work like Blueside. Overall, there's less need for "Tanks" - each redside class has its own form of mitigation. There are no Blasters redside, and even with only team buffs, Corruptors still have high damage and Scourge.
And yes, I agree that the most broken part of Gauntlet is that Brutes get all the relevant parts of it on top of Fury. In general, the blueside inherents are all sub-par. -

Yeah, well, I wasn't here when they were implemented.
-
Yeah, like I said, even with Mercs, you're still a Master Mind. Saying Mercs is the "weakest MM Primary" is sort of like saying Fat Boy is the "weakest nuke". It's still a nuke. You're still going to blow up your enemies. It's just a matter of degree.
-
I will point out that, while Mercs is arguably the worst MM primary, it is still a Master Mind primary. The AT and the Summon sets in general are quite powerful, so even a poor MM set will perform better than a lot of sets from other ATs.
-
I'm firmly against the idea of earning things simply by racking up time.

Just to clarify, when I dis Aquaman, I'm talking about this guy:
not this guy:

Quote:The Con things are costumes, not costume pieces. They're like the costume powers you get for Halloween, not pieces you can add at the tailor. What I don't understand is if people complain about not having the costume pieces that are in the vet rewards system then why aren't they also complaining about not having the costume pieces that are given out at HeroCon, PAX, ComiCon, beta and pre-order customers, etc?
The costume pieces that did come via a pre-order are now part of the Veteran's Reward system. -
From a mechanical standpoint, Bots are generally superior to the other sets. They have fair resistances - includind to both lethal, a common type, and psionic, which is a hole for most other people - and do mostly Energy damage with a bit of Fire - while the other sets do mostly Lethal or Smashing with a bit of Fire or Dark. Doing Energy damage allows the Bots to avoid the most common pitfall especially endgame - the ridiculous amount of Smashing/Lethal resistance in high-end foes.
Bots is also the only set whose protections - the Prot Bots Force Fields - actually help the MM itself. And Bots also have two healers, while other sets have one (Mercs) or none (all others, with a slight caveat on life-draining Zombies).
Thugs comes in second for much the same reason; between stacking Leadership buffs from the Enforcers, the Corruptor Arsonist and Brute Bruiser, Thugs offer a good combination of tough pets and good damage.
Mercs are last because they're the weakest of the sets; the Mercs do almost entirely Lethal damage, and their utility and non-Lethal attacks are on ridiculously high recharges so they don't come up often enough to make them particularly useful. Zombies avoids this pitfall with Dark damage, life-draining (thus self-healing) pets, and debuffs, while Ninjas have the Fire/Dark Oni. Mercs just don't have enough to overcome their short falls, especially their Lethal damage, which is probably the most resisted damage type in the entire game.
