Quote:I'm quite aware that the reason is "Veteran's won't stand for a change".There must be a reason why the program hasn't changed, and I bet the reason has been provided to you in this thread.
I'm just trying to convince them that their stance is bad for the game, and thus perhaps some flexibility is required.
So instead of saying "No, don't change veteran rewards at all", maybe we could hear some "Okay, if we get costumes out of the VR program, maybe we could replace them with X", rather than just knee-jerkedly resisting change. -
-
So why is "time subscribed" a logical and reasonable restriction to keep people away from "oft-requested" costume pieces like wings and trench coats?
The whole problem with your stance, stever, is that it completely ignores the entirety of this thread. Having costumes locked away behind veteran's rewards is nonsensical and unfair. The argument is that "veterans had to wait two years to get wings (because there were no wings in the game before that), so new players should also have to wait two years to get wings" (even though wings now are in the game.)
Locking costume pieces that were never previously available before the VR system away within the VR system is grossly unfair, and arguing that it's fair because veteran's had to wait for them (so now everyone else does too) is the exact same thing as saying that no one can access an issue until they've played as long as a first-day veteran did before the issue was released. Just because the costume items never existed before the VR system is not a reason to leave them within the VR system.
Unless you really think new players should have to start playing CoH (and only CoH) at issue 1, and only get access to subsequent issues (and expandalones) as they rack up veteran rewards. In which case, I wish you luck with your future business ventures, because you're going to need it. -
Quote:Considering that a word invented to be the longest English word, Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, is only 45 characters, you won't see such words even at Mensa.A word longer than 100 characters? In a MMOG? I wouldn't even expect a word that long at a Mensa meeting. Not that I've ever been to a Mensa meeting...
However, we do have a German-language server and German players, and with the way German words are constructed (as I understand it, for complicated, new, and/or complex especially technological nouns, the proper German name for an object might simply be a literal description of it all strung together as a single word) a 100-character word might be possible.
Or it's just some one going "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" with far too many 'o's. -
Quote:By that logic, no one should get Power Customisation until they have played for over five years. Nor should they get access to the RWZ or Cimerora for four. You're right it's not fair.
New players should get no rewards till their account is 2.5 years old then they can have all vet rewards up to their paid time so they can be on equal footing with people who were here on 04/24/2004 as far as rewards issue dates go. -

Quote:So should I have to wait two years to play villains, since you waited two years to get villains released?Just because a large number of players got multiple VRs the day they rolled out does not mean that those players did not have to "wait" for them. In fact several of them (costume pieces like trench coats & wings) were requested over and over and over again all throughout the first 2 years of the game before VRs were instituted. We waited throughout those 2 years of asking for them.

Quote:If you defeat the entire spawn (one doesn't run off and you miss them), the citizen will run up to you, say you're great, and give a small influence bonus. So there is some pay-off, just not much. While some of this is technically in CoH since... well since I've been playing... there are various civilians on the streets getting robbed, mugged, soul sucked out, and so on and so forth... there's never really any pay-off, other than the inf / prestige from dropping the baddies in question.

Quote:My problem is the large number of people that got some or all of those benefits the first day they were implemented, without "waiting". Every time these Veteran's Rewards discussions come up, this is the point that is constantly ignored - many people (and the vast majority of those speaking against any change in the program) never had to wait for many of the benefits. They acquired them the day they were added to the game engine, or soon thereafter. They never had to wait a year and a half to get wings, or three years to get shorts. They received the benefits as soon as they were made available in the game, like free issues only for veterans.Look, I realize you are emotionally invested in being right, whether you actually are right or not. You are also determined to bend the universe to your will via negotiation, rather than simply be patient and acquire the vet rewards over time like everyone else.
"Just wait your turn" completely ignores the fact that most people telling me to wait my turn never had to wait for theirs. They got in on opening day.
And I am just talking about costumes (and base decorations) here. In a game whose biggest draw is customisation - and whose biggest direct competitor is trying to boast on having more customisation - cutting off large swaths of your potential customers from any aspects of that customisation is simply bad business. -
I recently found out habitual PvPers will do zone sweeps with /who to find out what zone has people in it. As my SGs RP sometimes involves (RP)PvP and sometimes uses PvP zones for it for ease and other things arenas cannot provide (such as the free for all of Warburg), I whole heartedly disapprove of this idea.
We hide for a reason, and those reasons are no less valid just because we're in a PvP zone.
And yes, we have had events griefed by PvPers before. -
Having billboards <> In-game advertising.
The in-game advertising is largely a bust anyway, because no one's taking NC up on it. So it'd just be things like the "look out for the Rikti" or "Paragon Pizza" billboards already in the game, which are funny as heck. -
Quote:It is in fact possible to exercise, be in shape, and still be "fat". Losing a gut requires an entirely different set of exercise from fighting.Besides fat heroes and villains are a rarity in the setting. After all, you're playing a character who regularly goes out and gets into fights and basically has to stay in shape to do the things they do.
I submit, Butterbean, AKA Eric Esch, a professional Heavy Weight Champion boxer and Mixed Martial Artist.
Also, what the heck does staying in shape have to do with anything but a Melee set anyway? -
Quote:Had to put slots somewhere. Boxing is a pretty good set mule, as mentioned above.I was wondering why most people seemed to 5 or 6 slot boxing? I'd understand for the set bonus, but in Wiko-Chan's case, it seems to be 5 slotted with no real purpose... is there any reason for this?
Also, I use Boxing as part of my regular attack chain with my SS Tanker. It does (slightly) more damage than Jab. -
Quote:No, they can wait and do it months down the road and get a small portion of VRs. I'm not proposing everyone get all current VRs as of the day they start (the same small portion as they would if they started today.)Also, new players who know about VRs, or people thinking of starting a new account, lose their incentive to start their accounts now.
They can just wait and do it months down the road, and just get all the VRs.
Quote:Effort only equates in fairness if effort is not equal on all subjects. We all have a 0 effort cost so it is indeed equally fair.
VRs are equal. Everyone earns at the exact same pace, with the exact same effort.
VRs are unfair. Everyone starts from a different starting point, with advantages provided to some players over others.
Players that joined the game before the VR program started have a decided advantage over players that joined the game after the program started. They received a boost in their veteran's status that other people had no choice of matching, because they did not know there would be a VR program.
Just because everyone "has to do the same thing, at the same pace" does not mean something is fair when everyone starts from a different starting line - and the starting line keeps creeping further and further back as time goes by. It's like a race with a speed limit of 5 mph - somehow this race is "fair", even though some people got to start it right on time, others started it five minutes in, and there are still people starting it now. Oh, and there's a chunk of people that started the race without knowing they were, and the start line was put behind them and their current position was counted as progress in the race. But since everyone goes 5mph, it's all equal, and equal is fair.
Please do not conflate "equal" with fair. -
No, badges are. Everyone has to do exactly the same things - at their own pace - to receive a badge.
Veteran's Rewards are unfair because they come for doing nothing. If they reflected actually playing, or actual income, you might have a point. They do not do this.
Giving "bonus" veteran time to people does not remove the incentive of future rewards from anyone, and it is only the future rewards that are a carrot. -
Here's a quick build I made using mostly generic IOs. It could be a lot better with a little set tweaking, but as is it's already got capped S/L Res (easy to do with Invuln) and defences in the high 20s. I only built to level 46, leaving two potential epic power choices to personal preference (I might go with Body Mastery for Physical Perfection, personally.)
Notice I didn't need more than two slots in the resistances and still capped S/L (Tough excluded.)
Perfect Zinger is a fairly cheap set, and the Steadfast +Def IO is a bit pricey, but very much worth it.
NOTE: This is something I threw together in minutes. It's far from tweaked.

Quote:"Preferential" in the terms of "getting the same benefits out of veteran's rewards everyone else got on day one", yes.So instead of "preferential" treatment of Vet players who've kept an active subscription for X months (and/or stuck around from the beginning, which seems to be a sticking point for you), now we have preferential treatment for new players who've only had a subscription for Y months.

Shield Defence is a good pair, I think; ELM has a heavy AOE-aspect to it, and SD is definitely the damage-stacking and AOE-focused primary. ELM/SD Brutes seem popular (I certainly enjoy mine.)
-
Probably /Dark. Prot bots give +Defence, so -To Hit on foes is nice synergy, and Bots tend to clump enough that Twilight Grasp's heal can hit whatever the Prot bots don't.
Plus Tar Patch with the Assault bot's missiles and burn patches is invaluable. Pain has nothing to compare. -
You know, the ability to do more exotic damage types might alone make Mercs a much more balanced set against the rest of the AT. Not much resists Cold, and no other MM set offers it, for instance.
