Since I'm the one that mentioned SB crashes:
I play on a two-year old computer that was state-of-the-art when purchased. 3 Gig dual-core processor, 2.75GB RAM, nVidia 9300 GE video card.
My computer is not old, it is not slow, it is not broken. It is only City of Heroes that gives me any issues. -
This is probably the most annoying mission in the game. Not sure there's much to do if you want to run solo other than outlevelling it.

Quote:Scrappers might be hurt by Brute competition, but Tankers never will.I'm curious to see just how many people will bother with Scrappers and Tanks blueside, once Brutes can exist there.
Brutes are good Tanks for what's available redside, but a Brute is nowhere near as tough as Tanker, either out of the box or fully IOd. The only time Brutes come out ahead in that comparison is either on damage alone (in which aspect Tankers don't even compete with them anyway) or when comparing an IOd Brute to an SOd Tanker - and in several cases the SO Tanker would still come out ahead.
Brutes are nice, but they are not Tankers. They're not even close. -
Traps has a heal. It's called Triage Beacon.

Regen we might be able to help with, but set bonus damage boosts don't apply to pets.

Quote:Epicness happens when you watch TV? I'll definitely be watching more TV!The last time I watched television this happened
Besides, Dr. Aeon doesn't want me to watch TV, and ever since he stopped working with me to move on to that silly AE project, I've been looking for a way to get back at him! -
Quote:It'd make the Brutes cry. The Masterminds could probably take it, though.None. The other side couldn't handle that much sheer damn tankiness.
I've only got one main Tanker (I don't really enjoy blueside content), who is a true-blue hero, but I'm still contemplating finding some way to justify taking her redside. She's WP/SS. -
Quote:No RttC is going to be a huge problem, like snake mention, but this is also an issue; by level 27, the game is balanced assuming you have SO-level enhancements. You're going to want to find a way to make the influence for such an investment (personally, I'd go for level 30 IOs, which deliver superior enhancement to SOs and never need to be replaced).I remember that not every single slot in my powers were filled, but I remember the character does not have the infamy to SO out.
Now, if you're running around with level 20 and 25 IOs, you're probably okay. But if you're still sporting TOs or DOs, that too will be a source of trouble.
If you're on Virtue, look me up (global is @Eiko-chan) and I'll give you some infamy to help with this. -
Honestly, drive-by buffing is largely a blue-side issue. It's one of the many reasons I primarily play villains.

Quote:I apparently have the wrong brand of video card, and CoX doesn't like it much, so rapid graphic changes tend to cause the game to crash. So, because your computer is unstable, it's the would-be samaritan's fault?
My computer is not unstable. CoX is the only game I have this issue with.
But really, this would be easily solved by giving us a way to remove or avoid buffs manually, and then we wouldn't need to have this conversation. -
Quote:It's a perfectly valid reason to expect people to ask before granting that particular buff, at least. SB has never saved anyone's life. That's still not a reason for people to refrain from offering it in general, because, you're in a minority of people with that issue. Especially having your game crash.
Yeah, but it's only the OP that's done that. Not any of us that have been quoted and argued with this entire thread. -

Quote:Society's standards of common courtesy. We realise you're "trying to help", and that it is thus rude to tell you how undesired your help is. So we either don't react, or fall back to society patterns and throw out the expected "Thank you" for things we'd really rather you didn't do.Following this style, I've never once gotten a complaint about having buffed someone undesirably, and I usually always get a simple 'ty' from the folks whom I do boost.
We're not allowed to tell you to piss off. It's rude, after all.
Quote:No, but damning people for giving in to the samaritan instinct is poor form...at best.
And for the record, I have been defeated and had my game crash because of random Speed Boosts before. SB is, more often than not, the exact opposite of helping. I even ask Kin team mates to keep it off me. -
This thread made me think of the possibility of having a Tanker - and honest-to-god Tanker, not some beefed-up wanna-be Brute - on the LRSF. It could change everything.
Brutes are nice, but they are not now nor never will be Tankers. -
I was arguing that he respec to take Fast Healing, not that he make it his next power choice.
-
I'd say Hasten. If you're not taking the Thugs attacks, I'm not really sure why you need Hasten - your buffs and heals will be up often enough.
-
Level 10 IOs offer enhancement values roughly equivalent to TOs. Low-level SOs would provide superior enhancement.

See, the entire point of this is that, yes, most of the time, you are at worst neutral and oft-times actively helpful. But assuming that you are always helpful, and that your aid will thus always be appreciated and sought is a poor assumption, because there does exist another line of thought.
For those that wish to merely solo and be left alone, or whom are testing new builds, new tactics, or other such things, you are actively not helping, and telling us we're wrong for not liking your interference because you are "being helpful" is, frankly, rude.
There do exist people in the real world that object to random kindness - try helping an able-bodied old lady across the street, or paying for a blue-collar worker's groceries. Try forcing a proud conservative to accept government aid - after all, they're "just helping".
You may act with the best of intentions, but that does not mean you are always "helping". -
Quote:That's because I see no point in complaining in game - it doesn't make the buff go away, after all, and it's not like you can remove it after placing it. Nor are you going to in any way remember my character or look up my global to avoid doing it in the future. So what's the point of complaining at the time?Yet, in-game, I've never once been asked to cease & desist, and almost always receive sincere gratitude.
Doesn't stop me from thinking in my head, "Leave me alone, jerk", though. Especially if it's a Speed Boost, so I'm suddenly running into walls instead of proceeding along at a nice controlled pace, or one of those damn Ice shields so I have all this blocky ugly over me instead of the costume I probably spent hours getting perfect.
Out of game, on the forum, where we have time to discuss issues, is the place to bring up such grievances anyway. And so we are. -
The worst is random Speed Buffs. There's a reason I don't play anyone with Super Speed.
-
I hardly think NRG/Invuln would be significantly more powerful than <any given melee set>/Invuln already is.

Not to necro the thread (so please don't post in it, this is just so you can see it), but some of the initial reaction was less than enthusiastic.

I'm so glad to see the Defender community so embracing the glory of Traps after the rocky start it had.
Yes, Time Bomb is trash and there's never any reason to ever use it. Trip Mine can be far more useful - my MM can run petless on +0x1 primarily because of Trip Mine's damage and the other defensive tools of Traps. The real key is to make sure you've got the defense to be able to toe-bomb with it. Or you can lay down a whole bunch before you pull - with even moderate slotting for recharge, you can get 13-14 mines down before they start self-destructing, which is enough to take off about half an EB's health (though if Defenders got a weaker version, maybe not so much for you guys.)
