    Advice on a name

I have a feeling that ArwenDarkblade will have a problem with some of those

Oh, I like The Devil's Touch. But darn, it's taken too. That's a new line of exploration though. Thanks to all the suggestions. I have some good ideas now.

Gonna try contacting the owner of "The Devil's Mark". Maybe she won't be using the name

I like the idea, although French wouldn't work for her. She'd be more likely to use Spanish. It also loses the possessive form that I like.

Hmm, I wonder if I could modify "Devil" rather than "Mark" to keep the possessive?

    The Demon's Mark
    The Prince's Mark
The Dark Prince's Mark (plays on the dark powers, but it's cumbersome)
    Hades' Mark
Lucifer's Mark (people might call her "Lucy" rather than "Mark" -- her name isn't Lucy but at least it is a female name!)

    Advice on a name

I am planning to move a character to Justice. Hi! However the character that I want to move has a bit of a dilemma. Her name is not available.

    The Devil's Mark

So, I was hoping that you folks could help me decide between my alternatives (checked, available, and currently held with a placeholder). Other suggestions are also welcome. Oh, and if anyone knows "The Devil's Mark (Justice edition)" I'd love the opportunity to take the name if it isn't being used.

Her (brief) backstory is that she was killed in an accident at a young age. However she woke up in a strange place, seemingly unhurt, but with the handprint burned into her chest. She consulted a priest who told her that the mark was put there by the Devil to keep track of her, and that she would need to find out why. She is a Dark/Dark defender, level 50.

I have her new name narrowed down to either:

    1) The Devil's Brand
    or
    2) Mark of the Devil

Brand is the best synonym for "mark" that I could find, although I considered "emblem", "stamp", and "scar". "The Devil's Hand" is also taken. I do really like the idea of a possessive form name.

"Mark of the Devil" is clearly the most literal, but I'm afraid people might read it as the English name Mark, with the same cadence as "George of the Jungle". On the other hand, it does remind me of the phrase "Speak of the Devil", which might be a cool thing to hint at.

So, anyone have any suggestions for me?

    Contacts?

I find Red Tomax's table more intuitive. I can scan across at each level range and see the whole contact chain. It's also handy for when a contact gives you a choice of same level contacts, so you can see which ones have the arcs you are interested in.

Because, as you say, Eek basically made the same point as you.
It wasn't an attack, and I think we share the same opinions, JamMasterJMS. My point is just that the OP seems to be using quotation marks to denote emphasis in speech. I'm just saying there is a difference between:

No, we don't need a healer
    and
No, we don't "need a healer"

The first one makes it seem like the person is saying that a healer is unwanted and if one were around they wouldn't be invited. Like people who say "we don't need a second tank" means they don't want to invite another tanker.

The second one is the point that you and I both agree on, I think. When someone in your team says "We need a healer", just say "No, we don't."

Note where the quotation marks are in the title of the thread: No, we don't "need a healer!"

This isn't a reaction to someone saying "Hi, I'm an empath. Can I join your team?" It's a response to someone complaining that "we need a healer to start the team". The response is No, we don't "need a healer". I would give the same response to someone saying "we need an empath to start the team". No, we don't "need an empath". I agree that empaths are as important as any other defender (or controller), and I'd welcome one who wanted to join my team. But we don't need one.

The point is, we don't need any specific AT or powerset, ever. Sure, a tanker or a defender or a controller or more damage might make certain teams better, but you never "need a ____."

No, we don't "need a healer!"
No, we don't "need a empath!"
No, we don't "need a kin!"
No, we don't "need a tank!"
No, we don't "need a rad!"

FYI, Recall Friend is not zonewide. It just has a long enough range to usually be able to cover a zone. Very large zones (like the Shadow Shard or Independence Port) can stymie it.

That's the end result of the Leveling Pact system, but the reason for it is so that friends don't outpace each other and always stay at the same level.

Just clarifying so the reader doesn't think it is some kind of powerleveling tool (although it has been used as such).

This is why I sell all of my large inspirations on the market. I'm never going to use them, because they are too valuable. So i might as well let someone who will use them buy them for 5 inf.

My reluctance to use something that I may need later goes beyond inspirations.

Temporary Powers get the same treatment. If I use the Divining Rod on this ghost, what if I need it later for a tougher fight? I've never used any Electromagnetic Grenades on the Clockwork during that mission, because there might be a time later when things were REALLY tough. I even used my Raptor Pack in tiny little bursts (until I was able to buy them at any time -- then I started using it all the time).

This is why I almost never will take long recharge powers. I don't like Hasten or "crashing" nukes. Howling Twilight is such a great power but I never use it as a stun because what if I need it as a rez? I respecced out of Elude and Unstoppable and Power Surge. Controller AOE Holds are the worst. Clearly not just for emergencies, but too slow to use every spawn. So I wait for a tougher spawn and never use them... except for emergencies.
  14. This isn't really a "periodic" table. Periodic means that characteristics of the elements repeat in a regular fashion. That's why all of the elements in the last column are noble gasses -- they all share the characteristic of being non-reactive. This is just a list arranged in a familiar shape.

    That being said... NEAT!

What the heck is "arms fall off"?

  18. I think it is just the phrasing that the OP used that is ticking people off.

"Please provide proof" Besides being nicely alliterative, the word proof suggests that there is doubt about the veracity of people's statements.

If the OP had said "Can someone show me where a dev has said this?" or "If you know where there has been official comment, can you point me in the direction?"

In the end the answer would have been either Dev Digest or Paragon Wiki, so the result is the same. But there would be less grumbling.

There is not. It has been asked for forever. You just have to know what the names of the bosses/lts are for the enemy you are fighting.

A recent Dev comment seems to indicate that it's since been scrapped/canceled/put on indefinite hold. Still, i don't think they'd just stick a building at the Steel Canyon site. More likely is that it would open up a gate to the new area shown on the map if the Devs do anything at all with it.
The new exploration badge for the construction area in Steel Canyon is very funny. I don't want to spoil it, but check it out on ParagonWiki.
  21. There is a small difference between the two unbinds:

/unbind <key> returns the key to its default state
/bind <key> nop makes the key do nothing

  23. Oh, that's cute. It isn't technically random, but it rotates the phrase every second. So unless you use the bind on an exact schedule it is effectively random. If there were 30 phrases and you used the bind exactly every 30 seconds it wouldn't work, but no one would do that. Very clever.
  24. Only way I can think would be to use an external program to rewrite the bindloadfile. A simple batch file would probably do it. The random function in batch -- in win2000/NT/XP anyway, I'm not sure about Vista/Win7 -- generates a number from 1-32768. Just do *random*/1024 to get a random number from 1-32, then assign a witty statement to each number and write the appropriate bind file.

Final application is left as an assignment for the reader.

I think it would have been clearer if you had not redacted the names Nosferatu and Burkholder in your story. Yes, I understand that someone (who got the joke) suggested you do that, and that was even funnier after i figured it all out. However I wasn't familiar enough with the TF in question to know what you were talking about.

Once it was explained, it was very funny.
