Quote:I think my SS/EA brute's Hecatomb set is in Haymaker. Five pieces of it, that is. The sixth (the proc) is in the attack I have on auto-fire to build fury (Boxing).after another hecatomb dropping, i have come to the point where i am at a loss as to where and how to slot this set once i get the others. should i go 5 or 6 hecatombs? i am thinking haymaker for hecatombs, but ive seen others slot them in Knock-out blow.
Quote:i want advice for a fine-tuned build aimed at heavy damage/decent AoE damage.
-leaping,fighting, Mu, and SS(hasten only) are my current pools.
Quote:-i have 5 sets LotGs, 3 sets kinetic combat, and most of the extra procs and goodies (minus the +stealth travel and the kismet Proc)
Quote:i want to use more purple sets, armageddon/ragnanok whatever in the future...slotting advice on these would be great as well.i like what my build can do so far, im jus curious about what a good Purple IOed build for SS/ENG/Mu would look like.
In answer to your other question about 5 or 6 purples, I almost never go past 5. Especially with /Energy Aura, if you can get to the soft cap (which is very do-able, with no budget restrictions), you won't get hit often enough for the Toxic resistance to matter a whole lot. -
As far as I can tell, the type of possessed scientists are set when the arc is given, and won't change however many times it's reset.
On the bright side, the ship map is mission 2 in a brief arc, and you can see what type of scientists you'll be facing in mission 1, so it's something that's workable through Ouroboros if your "live" version doesn't give you what you want. -
There's a pretty big Council warehouse map I used for a long time, and for a lot of my testing of drop rates last fall. It's in Abyss's second arc, and I think the mission title is something like "Retrieve Void Hunter Rifles for Abyss".
I like that Council drop both tech and magic salvage. -
Quote:I laughed. =)I'll be fine. I played WoW for five years and I have low self esteem. It's win+win.
I get the impression that marketing loves data. While you're getting some good suggestions here, have you considered distributing a brief survey to current players querying on websites they frequent, publications they read, and so forth, that might allow you to hone in on optimal markets to attract more excellent people like the ones we already have? (Embedded assumptions are numerous. Feel free to frown at them. They don't go away, but frowns at least make them feel self-conscious.)
What's the over/under on how long it takes P_P to find this thread? -
Quote:I've found that "Footloose" will kill almost any song I get stuck in my head. I once had Alan Jackson's "Chatahootchee" (or however you spell it) stuck in my head for over a week because it was on continuous loop at the store where I worked. "Footloose" killed it dead. This isn't game related.
Have you ever had a song get stuck in your head? I've got one stuck and I cant get rid of it. Nothing I've tried listneing to will get rid of it. I've tried Numa Numa, Duck Tails, Animaniacs, and a few others and no dice. Does anyone know of a really catchy tune that I can use to get rid of this song? Its driving me nuts. -
Quote:I was also wanting to comment on this. The reality of most of the purples is that there's a pretty large amount of variability in selling price. If you can sell the purple for 350m (listed for somewhere around 341m, of course) and then put in a bid to buy the exact same one for 250m after your sale goes through (it's not uncommon for me to see that much spread within a lot of the desirable sets), then you end up with exactly the same item, plus 65m profit after fees.I know it is tempting, but Don't sell that Purple Recipe for 350 million influence. The simple fact is that if you ever need it, you are just gonna have to pay 350 million to get it again. You can NOT get purples from Reward Merits, and the odds on you seeing it drop again in the next 5 years are slim to none. It's nearly irreplaceable. Keep it. If you really don't want it, I can guarantee you have a lot of friends who do.Just remember to tell them you expect them to be using it, not selling it. You know very well that if they just wanted a couple hundred mill, you can give it to them straight out.
I realize this comes close to recommending "ebil flipping," but to me it's just smart resource management. If you were telling people to buy at 250m and sell at 350m, that'd be different - mainly. But when I get a purple, I always look at the spread of sale values to see if I can end up (in 7 days or less, usually) making this kind of profit and still having the original item in-hand. The answer is "Yes" surprisingly often. -
Quote:While it would be a nice QoL feature, I suspect this is unlikely because it has the potential to trivialize the badges associated with selling on the market. SCR* applies to any statement about the ability for the badge tracking system to differentiate sales to other players on the market from sales at the insta-sell price. For all I know, pohsyb has already figured that one out, though.* Offer an instant-sell capability of items at the NPC-store price

Quote:Gratuitous self-quotation to complain about negative reputation received for being a "long-winded d-bag".Needless quotation of entire OP.
Excessively long and verbose analysis of OP, couched in pseudo-academic language and utilizing compound-complex sentence structure destined to leave other posters completely uncertain of the point you were making, other than that you took the OP far too seriously. Stylistic quirkiness that indicates the possible presence of a Strunk-and-White fetish.
Posturing and unverifiable assertions of knowledge and authority. -
Quote:Needless quotation of entire OP.CAPTIAL LETTER call to action. Misspelled indication that the following missive is NOT intended to be a DOOM thread...transitions fluidly toward doom! A snarky comment. Eye-roll icon. Standard comparison to this game!! To THAT game!! A rose-tinted reference to those good old days when the player base understood the game and everything was considerably superior in most every way. A challenge to the developers to implement a dozen changes for things the developers have indicated are either unlikely or have already been indicated to be in process! A declaration that these changes would ensure the games longevity! Request for developer response! NOW!
Another reference to this game...and that game. A confusing tangent hinting at quitting the game for good! Imperative towards forum contributers not to challenge these assertions! Self-aggrandizing reference to length of play time and accumulation of veteran rewards! Aside pointing out the many flaws in the reward system!
A quick burst of internet acronyms!
Disheartened post-script!

Quote:You're welcome. I also appreciate your answer, which seems to be, "I just choose to ignore it."So you missed the part where Donna was told that it probably wouldn't work because no single person could completely cut off supply for most items, and would inevitably get undercut by other people who do things like post their items for 222 and allow the lowballers to get what they want for less than the going rate?
Or did you just choose to ignore it? -
SS/EA (50): My first and favorite brute. He's got, I dunno, 1700+ hours on him. He was entertaining with just SOs, but he's got one of the most expensive builds of any of my characters now, and wanders around with 47+% defense to everything. The only character I log in almost every day. A fully IO'd anything is a thing of beauty, but to me that's particularly true of /EA.
EM/FA (50): Tucked away on a server I rarely visit, he used to be entertaining. The change to ET's now-glacial cast time (and to a lesser extent TF's stun reduction) just killed him for me. I pull him out every 21 days to move him to a new day job location. I'd delete him if I didn't love his name so much.
Claws/SR (50): Made her because I know my SS/EA is going to swap sides when GR launches and wanted another brute to generate inf with vill-side. My fastest 50 (92 hours solo, and could have been faster if I'd been able to stomach more AE), but not yet tricked out. I have a hard time getting motivated to purple a brute who's already (a) over the soft-cap (not relevant for purps, but whatever) and (b) already has almost hasten-level recharge just walking around. Her end recovery isn't super, though, so while she can solo AVs, I end up having to chug blues a few times.
Stone/Stone (48): Was 47 for over a year. Will probably be 48 for a while. Getting him to 50 would be nice, but doesn't serve any purpose.
WM/WP (42): Was a ton of fun to level to 41, then I ran out of interesting new powers to take and slid into patron hell. Could shove her to 50 as well, just not motivated to do so.
DM/Ele (36): Amazingly squishy. I think I stink at /Ele. Needs a respec. Has been in his 30s for 2-3 years.
Various low-mids, including an SS/FA, Fire/SD, SS/Inv, etc.
Fire/Psi (50): Whaddya mean, he's not a brute? -
Quote:So you missed the part where Donna was told that it probably wouldn't work because no single person could completely cut off supply for most items, and would inevitably get undercut by other people who do things like post their items for 222 and allow the lowballers to get what they want for less than the going rate?Imagine? Yea, that's what i do when people come in here trying to post a way to manipulate the market by buying everything to relist higher.
Or did you just choose to ignore it?
The fact that people can come up with plans for how to make inf or corner the market does not mean they will work. Most such plans, if you've followed the market forums at all, result in a loss of inf.
Quote:But yea, it's my imagination. -
Quote:True story. When we got the ability to roll Bronze thru the MA, things started hitting the redside market that almost never hit the redside market and were horrifically overpriced as a result. Specifically, Basilisk's Gaze Acc/Hold and Acc/Rech, which had both been going for 50-100m at level 30 because they were in such short supply, suddenly became obtainable. I hit one of those the first day, looked at the number bidding, looked at the rising number for sale, and realized that it was going to drop pretty quickly to 20m or below as supply shot through the roof compared to what it had been.Yea the supply may increase, but who is going to list their IO at less than the recent sold price.
So I crafted the one I got with my tickets and listed it for 17m. I'd have been happy with 20m. I logged in the next day to see that it had sold for 100,000,000.
True ebilness is not asking for the most. True ebilness is figuring out how people are going to bid and pricing your item lowest so that if somebody does come in and offer up a ridiculous amount, you get the sale. The only time I price something at or above the last 5 is when there are no others for sale. Otherwise, I'm all about undercutting the competition while making sure that I get at least what I want. -
-
I actually find most of them (the notable exception being Dr. Aeon in the STF) completely immersion-breaking, since they provide information the characters would never have access to. I'm all for the addition of the ability to create these to the MA, though, provided the MA interface is updated to warn players that the arc may contain cutscenes.
As long as people who don't like them can avoid them, adding them becomes a win-win.

Quote:Yes, you can do that. One in each of Hover/Maneuvers/Weave would work just fine.another question if I may ask...
Lets say I have 3 Luck of the gambler Ios with the 7.5% recharge and 3 different defense buffs to place 1 into (hover, maneuvers, tough, weave, etc)
Will I be able to use all 3 to have a total of 22.5% global recharge reduction? (i ask because it doesnt say "unique" on it. -
I think that's true of all of us.
Quote:Did I ever think I had the perfect solution, no, but playing the way I play my idea would have been beneficial to most other people.
Quote:I would help resupply the market with mid-level IO's that get deleted otherwise.
But that's a playstyle issue. Would I pull those out and replace them with level 50s if I could? Maybe. (Actually, it's more likely that I'd replace with 49s, given that the difference from 49 to 50 is decimal dust and the cost to buy and craft 49s is usually < 50% of the cost to do the same with 50s.) And if I did pull out those mid-level IOs, I don't know that they'd end up on the market, since odds are I'll eventually have another alt that needs them. So not only do I not end up putting stuff on the market (not increasing supply), I also now have an upcoming character that doesn't need to use the market to get what he or she wants (reducing demand).
Again, though - playstyle issue.
Quote:I already move the my purple / PVP IO's/ uniques around to a few builds that I particulary enjoy at that time, I get bored rather quickly. The reason why I asked my question on the boards is to get a broader view and idea of how it would work with other people; clearly, it would be taken advantage of.
And again, none of this is meant as an attack on you; the idea simply had the potential for abuse, implemented as suggested. Bringing it here and offering it up for critique was the best way to have any potential problems identified. -
Quote:I keep reading through this thread and thinking, "Man, there's gotta be something I can say that would be constructive and demonstrate the core problems with the system being proposed that hasn't already been said." But then I find something like this, that really gets into the psychology and player retention aspects of why the change would not be good, long-term, for the game, and I realize I couldn't possibly have said it any better. You claim this is a QoL fix, but it is not. It would make the game massively easier. If you could unslot IOs to transfer them to alts, friends or SGmates, then everyone would be running around with the best gear in the game. You may think that would be great for players, and a lot of people may agree with you, but a lot of you would get bored and leave the game if that happened. The Devs know that, and that's WHY we have Ultra-Rare items in the game. It has to do with motivation, emotional investment, perceived worth, and various other psychological phenomena.

Quote:You know what would be great? After a few Master-at-Arms, everyone spotted in our midst an orange name: Qugin. He was a stalker, and with a name like that everyone started screaming Rikti spy. We killed him but apparently it was a bug of some sort. Still it was funny.
If that wasn't a bug. If the Rikti in these invasions had some sort of "temporary Riktification" power that functions similarly to confuse and causes random PCs to appear as enemies.
Okay, that by itself wouldn't be great. But if it went along with a chance for anyone who gets temp Riktified to get a PvP drop when they get summarily squished by everyone around them, that'd be kinda funny - and would help work more of a really really really rare commodity into the game.
I'm no fan of forced/random PvP, but Rikti tech that makes PCs appear to be enemies (and even better, if the character in question had their name Riktified when they got hit with it) would be fairly story-consistent (get beaten down and it stops the transformation), and the possibility of a reward for getting smacked silly in a no-debt environment would be entertaining - to me, at least. -
Quote:Do we have any verification that the Boss-drop version of this is weighted in the same fashion as when you roll randomly? It's never seemed that way to me. I've gotten a distribution of boss drops that seems pretty randomly spread, rather than being weighted toward the damage sets, though I will admit that the sample I'm basing that statement off of is pretty small. For example, I've done a lot of random rolls since the weighting change was put in, and haven't gotten a single Trap of the Hunter proc - but I've gotten one from a boss. And a Gaussian's R/E. Ghost Widow triple. Ghost Widow proc. Glimpse of the Abyss triple & proc. From damage sets I've only gotten procs from Posi and Obliteration and a Decimation triple, that I can think of. I question the assumption that boss drops are using weighted versions of the tables, until more data can be gathered. Also remember: "Pool C" is really the newly combined "Pool C + Pool D", and, it's 'weighted' so the more used recipes drop more often. This new weighted combined pool is the same reward table for Boss C+D drops, Gold Ticket Rolls, and Rare Recipe Merit Vendor Rolls.
That being said, I'm confident that if a redname has said the weighting is applied to boss drops, if anyone can provide a link it would be you. -
Not in any fashion I've been able to divine over the past year, either via "feel" or real numbers. Although the 3-slot bonus for WG at least helps some, if memory serves. 6% is better than nothing, if you've got the slots and are full up on the 7.5 GotA specials.
-
I've not seen what you are describing, but don't doubt your experience. What missions are you seeing this in? Are they papers, or specific contact missions, or everywhere? Live or Ouroboros? You should submit bug reports with specific /whereami and /loc information so that QA can try to track down what it is you're experiencing. It sounds completely foreign to me, I'm afraid. Good luck with it.

Quote:I've had that problem all but one time I've run the SF (of course, I've only run it about 5 times). I know people who routinely send in a petition that they are stuck as soon as they start the mission, figuring that by the time they clear the map support will have shown up to help with any missing mobs.Had the same problem with the carnie mission tonight, petitoned GM, waited 15 min and no response. Reset mission by logging and still no luck.
Had to abandon the SF.
I don't recommend that approach, but then I've never had to wait more than 20 or 30 minutes for a response to a petition about being stuck in that mission. I wonder if we invoke the name "War Witch" our wonderful goddess of maps-n-such will hear our call and take a look at the potentially troublesome spawn points in that mission, or forward the concern on to the person who's currently on map duty...
Well, not if *I* do it. I suspect she has me on /ignore (rightly so) for being a tool about the AE building in Croatoa. Someone else might have better luck.
