Quote:(List that basically replicates my problems snipped for brevity.)Ok, I'll bite. It *is* wireless but it's *also* specific to CoH where the game is causing a conflict with something in certain environments where CoH ran just fine before i17. Here's an overview of symptoms:
- Wireless connection and CoH running, the game gets pulses of packet loss every few seconds. These show up in game as "lost connection to mapserver" messages. Using netgraph, you see alternating red-green-red-green stretches.
I'm now at the point where Support is asking me to find someone else's wireless network with a different ISP to determine whether we can rule out my ISP/modem and isolate to the machine itself.
Edited to add: Which I hope to do this weekend. -
Quote:Tech support skipped right past my router. They had me plug my laptop directly into the modem and play the game with pingplotter running. When I was able to play the game successfully for 40 minutes without more than a couple of hiccups (no disconnects at all) they looked at the PP output and suggested that the problem must be in my modem.I can't speak for him, but the problem he's describing is the exact same one I'm having now, and the machine I'm playing on is plugged directly into my router. System's clean, no antivirus running in the background when I'm playing, and everything was fine before I17.
I don't know what's going on over there, but they really need to track down whatever's causing these issues and kill it, ASAP.
Which I was plugged directly into.
Able to play the game just fine.
On the same computer that can't stay connected for more than 5 minutes wirelessly.
I asked, in what I hope was a polite and non-ironic fashion, for an explanation I can offer my ISP as to why they should give me a new modem when the problem doesn't seem to manifest in any other program, and only manifests on one computer that typically connects wirelessly when that computer is using the wireless network. I tried to get a new modem (at Support's urging) when the /sync bug first came to light, long before we had the /sync command to fix it, and my ISP refused because the problem was program-specific. I appreciate everything Support has done, but I really need more than a statement of, "The problem appears to be with your modem," to convince the ISP, given all the other elements of the situation. -
Quote:Perhaps the OP is in the same situation I am, where the problem didn't exist on the Test server, and still does not exist on the test server. I can get on Test and do whatever I want, but on Live, LCTM starts up almost immediately when I travel across any zone with more than one other person in it.Again. Did you actually log into the test server and file a bug report that it was not working on your platform?
Quote:No? Shut up.
I don't think we're going to get any kind of reimbursement out of this, nor would I ask for it. I'm just going to keep doing what the nice NCSoft Support people ask me to do (maybe... if I can ever get to the Pingplotter dl page they pointed me to...) and hope something I give them helps isolate the problem.
Folks who are dismissing this as "small scale" need to remember that this is exactly how the "sync" bug started two or three years ago. A few people randomly de-syncing from the map and being told that the problem was with their ISP/router/modem/whatever because no one could figure out what was going on and it wasn't consistently replicable within the game. I know, because I was one of those "few people" then, too (different computer, not limited to wireless). The problem got much bigger and more widespread before it was resolved. -
I have a support ticket in where I provided them with full system specs, as well as the fact that the problem almost completely went away when I moved from wireless to wired. I'm guessing their staff is short on the weekend and I'll hear any request they have for more details early next week.

Quote:Not recently. /em shameHuh. I may have to see what happens wirelessly here.
(Just out of curiosity, again- updated wireless drivers?
Quote:What wireless card and router, any security and what type? Just since the info may be helpful.) -
What kind of routers is everyone using? I've been having this problem, but when I took my laptop and connected it with a regular ethernet cable and disabled the wireless, the problem virtually disappeared.
I'm using a Linksys 2.4Ghz 802.11b router that's 5-6 years old. Is anyone else using a wireless-B router who's having the problem? -
Quote:That was next on my list to test, I was just being lazy because I'm sick.Have you tried using a hardwired Ethernet connection instead of wifi?
Having now tested a different computer (wired) and the same laptop (wired with the same cable), I have learned the following:
I don't get LCTM messages on my wired desktop at all.
I got almost no LCTM messages on this laptop when I plugged it in and stopped it from connecting wirelessly.
This is not a graphics card issue - it looks like it may have something to do with the router in use/wireless transfer protocols/something like that. But I won't take up any more room in this thread, other than to say that if anyone else is having this problem, I'd be interested in whether they're also using aging Linksys Wireless-B routers. -
Quote:Tried it on Virtue and Victory with the same results.Just as a side question - and assuming you're in the US - does it happen with both east and west coast based servers?
(This is more out of curiosity, can't see why it'd disable a network adaptor - there's really no "larger amount of data," AFAIK, given all the graphical stuff is clientside. Though... hmmm... how is it with graphics - for testings sake - drpoped down to minimum, since I see mention of it not being an issue in instances?)
Then I plugged in an ethernet cable and stopped it from connecting wirelessly, and the problem almost completely went away.
I think that the new issue doesn't play well with 6-year-old Wireless-B routers - or at least, not mine... -
I wouldn't say "bajillions," but OP is definitely not the only person having this problem. I am, for one. It reminds me of when the /sync problem first manifested, and no one could figure out the common element. I got my ISP blamed a number of times, but the problem only grew worse, and the issues only happened in CoX.
I'd been assuming it was yet another ATI-related problem, but it sounds instead like it may be wireless network-related. I'm running an old router; maybe there's something in the new information that doesn't play well with older wireless transfer protocols? -
No software firewall running that I'm aware of. I ended up posting a CoHHelper and HijackThis output in the "Players experiencing issues..." thread, since I'm having trouble updating my video drivers (I install the update from ATI's website, but nothing changes...) and thought that might be the cause, but the problem only seems to get worse, and even persists in Safe Mode.
-
It's possible, but it only happens in City, it's only happened since I17 dropped, and from looking around the forums, I'm not the only one it's happening to. I appreciate the help, though.
-
The problem persists in safe mode. Interestingly, I couldn't even connect to the login server the first time I tried in safe mode; had to back all the way out of the program and go through the updater a second time to even be able to log in.

So, to update:
Downloaded and installed the 10.4 pack. Rebooted to complete the installation.
When I checked the dxdiag, it still showed the 8.634.0.0 driver version as being what's active. All I can figure is that it didn't install the drivers in the right place (it installed them in c:\program files\ATI). Logged in to the game, teleported around KR a little bit, mapserved repeatedly.
I'll paste the CoHHelper file and HiJackThis below. If Asus is one of the makers that doesn't want you to be able to update the drivers (and it tells me, when I point the driver updater at the location it installed the update to, that all the files are up to date...), what process can I follow to make the game playable again? That is, how can I manually wipe/install the relevant driver material?

Quote:Thanks for the response! Downloading the driver update now. Hopefully it will install without problems.Yes, update the driver if you can. I'm not sure if Asus blocks normal driver installations like some OEM's do.
Also, lower some of the graphics settings, the 3200 is a relatively lower level chipset.
Here's a Hierarchy chart from March. I haven't seen a newer one posted. Notice that the 3200 doesn't show up until the second page of the chart.
This laptop is kind of a "stopgap" until my wife and I buy more dedicated gaming desktops; I wasn't crazy about the 3200 when I bought it, but it was "good enough" and that's all I ask for it to continue to be. -
So I'm one of the folks who's having an issue where, particularly in highly-populated zones, I will mapserve repeatedly, then eventually disconnect. This is new as of I17, and didn't happen to me on Test.
Not only will I disconnect from the game, but it will knock me completely off the wireless network and I'll have to reconnect.
I'll paste my DXDiag below. My first thought is that I probably need to upgrade to the 10.4 drivers, but I wanted to get more expert opinions than mine before doing so. Is this problem even something that could be driver-related?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer advice.

Quote:Same problem here. It mainly happens in zones with a lot of other PCs around (it was difficult to move thru Atlas without constant LCTM messages, and took me 5 minutes to run across pocket d...), but I just dc'd and lost internet while standing in Kings Row.I'm having this same exact issue. It started for me on Wed.
It only happens when not in an instance.
I can stand in an instanced mission for hours with no issue.
Zone outside and start to travel to the next one and lost connection message happens pretty quick.
It's forcibly disconnecting my adaptor too. Making me reconnect manually before getting back on.
No other program does this. As the OP stated, I too can run internet with no issue for hours. It's something with the game.
My friend thinks its the wireless signal not being able to transmit the larger amount of data. I'm going to try plugging the modem directly tonight and see if that solves it.
I'm pretty even-keel, but disruption of internet connectivity altogether (the laptop has to reconnect to the network after I LCTM out of the game) is brand new, and only happens in CoH. -

Quote:I love my kin/sonic. Fulcrum Shift + Howl (is that the cone? I can't remember...) is crazy. Although I may finally cave and make an Ill/Rad. I'm far enough removed from my Grav/Rad that I may have recovered from my controller trauma...Kinetics can provide an ample -50% Regen themselves simply with Transfusion.
Kinetics
Nothing will cap your damage and make your team blaze through a TF like Fulcrum Shift.
Leadership
Anyone can take Vengeance, and it will save a team wipe many, many a time.
Debuffs/Buffs
Sonic muliplies damage a ton and buffs. -
Quote:Pool A, actually. You'll mostly see common recipes drop for it, but I've gotten Crushing Impacts, Thunderstrikes, and the occasional cool rare (got a Numina's Heal and a LotG Defense). It's possible to get both a Pool A Chronologist drop and a Pool B at the end of the same mission, even. What's the ones you find worth going after and why? The Ouro one seems interesting, what kind of recipe can you get with that?

Hi, Resi. I would suggest PMing this suggestion to TheOcho or one of the other forum moderators. This section of the forum is for questions players can answer for other players, and I'm afraid none of the players will be able to adequately address this for you.
I do agree with you that it's a good idea. Perhaps also down in the Suggestions forum? -
Quote:My wife and I logged in, got a team in Cap, jumped into a fight with Manticore and Psyche - and both immediately crashed.Overall, fun concept for the event, but the lag was just horrible horrible on Virtue.
I was able to log back in and move my character. She was not.
Today, I logged back in and went to Cap to check some market stuff. I see a pop-up that "Quarry has defeated [whoever]." Checked broadcast, and without announcing anything, some GM had started spawning giant monsters in Cap again. I moved away from the BM with the intention of exiting the zone and crashed so hard that I can't even log that character in again. I've logged in multiple other characters, but when I try him, I get a message that he's still logging out, and I should wait a few seconds and try again. So I've petitioned, in the hopes that I can get him moved and that he's not somehow corrupted.
I was able to take part in last year's event just fine. This one failed most egregiously. -
Quote:I have a not-quite-helpful answer.Do EB's have the chance to drop Pool C or only regular bosses? I think I asked this once before but even searching my own posts I couldn't find the answer.
I once got a Pool C drop from a CoT Portal, which I believe is labeled "Object." At the very least, this tells me that it's possible for things that are not labeled as Boss-class to give the Pool C drops, and if an Object can drop one, I'd be surprised if an EB can't.
(And ever since, I've had a harder time ignoring those stupid portal rooms...) -
Quote:That's because it's not a measure of difficulty. It's a measure of number of missions, type of goals needed to complete missions, zone size, mission placement, and a lot of other things that were treated differently as design factors when the game launched than when updates and new TF/SFs have been added.Median time is a simple, but not particularly effective, measure of difficulty.
You will always win the argument that median time isn't a good measure of difficulty, so long as people let you conflate those two terms.
