  1. Thanks to Mids for all his work in creating the best character planner CoH has had. Also, awesome to know that someone is taking up the torch. All the previous planners more or less died when their originators dropped out.

I just wonder how it stays on. Magnets in his forehead?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Unfortunate incident with krazy-glue.
  3. Any optional way to increase the game's exposure seems like smart move. PC Gaming's share of retail wall space seems to be rapidly shrivelling, so digital distribution seems like the way to go. I don't use Steam, but it seems like its probably the market leader in this kind of thing, so good for NCSoft for jumping on board.

    Update:

    New Article on MMORPG.com

Nice article, gives a pretty fair and balanced overview.

no offesense but we knew about this m.a. for like 6 months now..

what would be nice is to here whether anything "else" is coming with issue 14..

    [/ QUOTE ]

Here's a hint. If they aren't promoting other features for Issue 14, there probably aren't any besides the usual minor power tweaks and QoL features, none of which are worth promoting, or would be covered by news sites.

If you expect I14 to have anything beyond the MA and the usual minor fixes, maybe a few new costume parts, you're most likely setting yourself up for disappointment.

I have to admit I don't care about a lack of a map editor if I have 1,000 map choices now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I imagine the odds are good that every variation of basic office/warehouse/cave is counted in that 1000. I'm suspicious of how much variety that number truly includes.
  7. Wait, I'm confused. Press-Event? Is NCSoft actually spending some cash on marketing the game now?

There's not a comet about to hit earth that I haven't heard about is there?

I agree that it will be soemthing to play with.

The fear is that such a powerful tool results in the end of creative obligation on their part and a drying up of storytelling opportunities. We, the players will close doors on any potentially original story arc from NCNC.
They'll throw something out there and the crowd will cite a previously created arc that a player made and we'll shout in unison "seen it." And let me tell you those are some horrible words to see when your job is to keep things fresh in the story department.
You can't just give it all away. People will gorge themselves, and nothing will be left.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, let me put it this way. That very same problem is a problem I'll face as a potential Mission Architect author: potentially thousands of other players will be writing stories, and there is the real danger that after working on a story arc and publishing it, the player community will say "seen it."

It just means I have to work harder at being original. If I can deal, the professional writers at NC are probably not worried either. They have better tools, better control, and the benefit of being canonical. And they almost certainly get first crack at every new toy: new critters, new powersets, new maps, new mission technology. I wouldn't be worried if I were them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Do they? I got the impression from the articles I read about the MA from the various MMO sites that the tools they had to create their missions prior to I14, well, sucked, or at least were cumbersome. It doesn't sound like there's going to be any difference between the mission creation tools developers and players have to work with. Aside from developers being able to walk down the hall and say "Can you build me a custom map for this mission" to a co-worker, it read like the tools available will be the same.

Sorry guys I could care less about the MA so this issue so far holds no interest for me.

So you had to post to say so.

    Gotcha.

There's nothing wrong with someone expressing their opinion that they aren't interested in this feature, as long its done in a polite and reasonable manner. This place is supposed to be more than an applause echo chamber.

i agree most people noses are so deep brown ( as in up someones [censored]) in this thread its refreshing hearing some dissent

See, your post is an example of how *not* to express dissent. If you can't say "this feature doesn't interest me" without resorting to sophomoric vulgarity, that doesn't do give your opinion much credit.

  11. I wasn't at all excited about this feature with the limitations we thought the system would have. With all the new details, I am pretty pumped about this, and it looks like delaying the feature to have an awesome system ready for launch was a good idea.

I hope that for the Mission Architect, one of the datamining tools they use to determine who gets in is a spelling checker.

Hell, I hope the MA has a spell checker in it. Also, possibly a "Riktifier and Freakifier"

    Want to talk about <a href="/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=13063944" target="_blank">Issue 14: Architect</a>?

    Please use this thread.

I'm not sure there's much of anything to discuss unless you guys are going to divulge some non-beta-locked information. Unless maybe this is a "complaints about not getting a beta invite" mouse trap thread.

It's probably about as ready as the "Vault" website.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, its not like they're writing a new system for the new forums. They're just using an existing, proven product. I understand that transferring stuff over from this board to the other takes time, but I'm somewhat astounded at how long its taking.

  15. Sooooo, how's the V-Bulletin forum coming along? The UBB one seems about ready for the glue factory.

I suspect the developers are very busy preparing I14, the next booster pack and future content, and I don't expect things to be fixed overnight. But I'm talking about major, universal, problems that cropped up before the winter event and I guess I'm kind of stunned at the lack of notice or mention of them. Moreso when I look at the content of this patch.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Quick responses to general tone of many posts in this thread

We're departmentalized here. The people who would be responsible for fixing things like game crashes, bugs with text chat, etc are not the same people who do things like tweak powers, change badges, or fiddle with animation/FX. I've said this many times before, but people keep using this "Why did they do X instead of fixing Y" arguement and unless you're a producer here, you cannot know which things are getting addressed in lieu of other things. (I myself only know which animation/FX issues are taking priority of other animation/FX issues)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I wouldn't let people who don't grasp the concept of division of labour stress you too much. They're probably the same folks who think the mayor drives the snow-plow in their town.

<cue someone bringing up their snow-plow driving mayor...>

  17. Things that should be covered:

*Relation of Double XP and Patrol XP

*Relation of Double XP and XP buff from Law Giver/Arachnos Agent Day Job bonus mission complete xp.

The first I know, the second I don't.

Thanks for the background, but it doesn't give the most wanted piece of information, when the migration could happen. Is this going to be weeks or months in the future?

  21. I did a quick search and didn't see it, but did you mention under Dual Builds that for Arachnos Soldiers, if either build has the Crab branch, you will have the Crab pack back at all times? Its worth noting.

Also, "Blue Shield" should read "Blue Steel" no?

i13 is so bad even Lighthouse left?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not that I agree, but its a great line.

Anyhow, LH, thanks for cleaning this place up a little. Good luck in the future.
  23. My testing has been on an MA/Shield Scrapper. Endurance usage was problematic when Conserve Power was down, but that could have been MA's fault I guess. I was not using Hasten, and did have Stamina. All relevant powers slotted with 1 endurance reduction SO.

Maybe it really was MA. My MA/Dark Scrapper is also an endurance pig.

I did my testing solo other than one Ship Raid on test, so Grant Cover did nothing for me for most of my testing. For a solo character, I'd have hard time picking Shields over Regen or Willpower as a secondary. Maybe if the recharge on Shield Charge was lower, it would be a more attractive solo option.

Edit: Thanks for making the thread.

Corruptor energy blast is, and always has been, blue. Dominator Energy blast powers in Energy Assault are red.
