    Powers = good

    Graphics = No complaints

    Sounds = turn off

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm pretty much in agreement with SnipeFu's quick but to the point assessment of this set. And I'm head over heels in love with it. The powers are fine as they are right now and need no changing. The graphics are perfect for this set, being colourless and semi-transparent which is precisely how I'd envision a sonic power to be. The sounds may not be the best, but really they're not as horrible as some of these posters would have you think, and I can live with that. awesome set.

Is it me or does sonic do way to much damage.

Maybe it's different in the higher lvls.

    Voltaic Shock.

    [/ QUOTE ]

it's just you. I'd dearly love to see your evidence of this, especially since the reality is that sonic's actual damage numbers are right on par with other blaster sets, and in some cases, like Howl, are lower. Now let's discuss your real reason for your post. You have a semi-high level elec blaster and you want to see the new kids on the block do poorly so you can feel better about your elec blaster. That's pathetic and petty and if I had a nickel for every envious nerf-herder on these forums that does the same thing you're trying to do, I'd be able to buy NCSoft and cancel your accounts. Of course I can't prove that this is your intention which makes the slimy tactics people like you use so conveniently easy to hide behind, but you'd have to be pretty damn stupid not to be wise to this old forum trick. What I'm basically trying to say in a long winded way is...

    go die.

    Good job on this set!

    A few, hopefully minor, complaints.

Please let Shriek sound like a woman's or child's shriek. Sure, it will seem a little wierd coming out of a Huge hero, but there are other sounds that look strange coming out of a female hero, or a magic hero, or whatever.

The set might be a little strong. It might be good to scale the damage back a bit now, so you can buff it later if it seems underpowered, rather than nerfing it later if it seems overpowered.

Other than that, I like it a lot. Looking forward to more great new powersets!

    Blaster role

I don't really think range is going to solve much for us. We've all learned over the course of 2004 and many posts and tests that range is a lousy compensator for our lack of defense. Range is good for two things- outdoor and outdoor lol. I think our priorities should lie in getting more damage to clear the gap in our roles from scrappers who get pretty much the same damage we do, don't suffer from any lack of range, and are more durable than us to boot. Some mez protection and a self heal would be nice as well, but I'm not asking for any additional damage resistance or +defense powers because that wouldn't make us anything other than ranged scrappers and wouldn't solve anything. Except to make scrappers scream bloody murder maybe lol.

If this thread is to address the role of blasters then it should be to give us more damage before anything else to put solid differences between us and scrappers. Added range won't cut it unless we all want to end up being outdoor street sweep kings which is mind numbingly boring. The majority of missions are door missions, and added range won't do anything in those because you're already in range for each encounter there anyway.

    More damage
    some mez protection
    some self healing

    pretty please?

    Blaster role

my thoughts on blasters is simply this-

if scrappers and blasters are pretty much on-par with each other in damage, then what's the difference? Range and defence. Blasters get range, scrappers get mez protection, damage resists and defence. Range most certainly is not a compensation for lack of the others. Especially in door missions where range becomes negated a lot. So we either need to give blasters:

-more control, which then impinges on controllers and defenders and so not a great idea,

-some self healing, which might be a start, but not enough by itself,

-mez protection, which again might be a start but not enough by itself,

-better resists + defense before APP's, which would then infringe on scrappers and so again not a good idea,

-higher damage which would definitely top my list of blaster needs, but again, might not be enough by itself (see below).

My best solution that I can come up with so far would be to add enough damage to place us back into our primary role as having higher damage without equalling the defensive capability of scrappers, and add a little more mez protection and a self heal. Any one of these 3 would be a good start, but I don't think adding all 3 would infringe on the territory of other AT's if they were implemented properly.

...CoH isn't that bad of course but I got this game because it WASN'T that bad, it was a breath of fresh air from the loot whores, crafting sinks, and uber leetness of "I have a +5 shiny sword and you don't!" That is very reason why i avoid WoW and EQ2 like the black death.

So when I find out that the 45+ game is EQ in tights with Hami raids nonstop for the best goodies, i'm more then a little pissed, before you even start taking PvP implications into consideration.

If you want that BS fine and dandy, but keep your phat lewtz out of coh and away from me. Down with loot in any form I say, it's corrupting what's a great game.

well i think the post is garbage because idealistically i enjoy the stuff he doesn't. fact is he doesn't HAVE to be part of it. he can ignore it and just fight folks he knows arent Ham-hanced.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Of course you do. But unlike the numerous "I agree's" along with quotes, nobody's quoted your PoV in praise yet though.. (although I have this funny feeling that 'someone' will now that I've said that to you. ) and just how are we supposed to know who is and isn't HO enhanced? Are you suggesting that something be implemented to make this distinction so we can have HO enhanced and non-HO enhanced pvp choices? If you are, it will be the first thing you've said today that will receive my full support!

    [ QUOTE ]
The supply of HOs in one of my toons (Ive left my other 'main' clear, to provide a non-HO opponent for people who dont have the opportunity to get them) is a result of nothing more or less than a lot of hard work, planning, and careful thought and effort on my part and the part of my Supergroup. To suggest that any success I should have is somehow lessened or tainted because I chose to work hard at being successful seems very strange to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Think of it like this.

You and I are going to take our cars to the racetrack.

You work hard, 60 hours a week, you started your own business and are a self-made millionaire. This racing hobby is a passion, so you bought a Ferrari 360 Challenge, and you made mods on top of it to make it the best possible racecar you could want.

I have got a Toyota Corolla because it is all I can afford.

I say, Dude, you've got a frickin Ferrari. Of course you're going to kick my [censored]. You say, "Friend, it is all about the sport of racing. It requires an excellent driver with good instincts and skills, it is very difficult to go through a course fast, and the most important element in the equation is the driver. So it is the best driver that wins."

Then we go out on the course and you kick my [censored].

    Every time.

This is the same thing... you should NOT be denied your right to leverage your hard work. But just like with race cars, in order to have a competitive event you need a LEVEL PLAYING FIELD.

I do not want to fight you and your 40-50 hamidon enhancements because it is like racing my Toyota vs. your custom Ferrari. You can point out until the cows come home that you can make a mistake and go off the track, but we're not using the same equipment.

It's like a heavyweight taking on a middleweight.

It's like a pro hockey player taking on a kid in highschool.

Sure, there is always a chance the middleweight might get a lucky punch and get a knockout, or that the highschool kid might slip a goal in on the pro...

But there is a REASON why sports events sort out into classes: because when one side just has too much raw power there is no challenge. It is someone who is bigger, stronger, richer, rolling over someone weaker.

For you an your Hamidon enhancements: yes, use them, but use them in the "open class" where there are no restrictions. Those of us without, we want a closed class that will exclude you and your uber loot unless you want to set it aside and join us.

This is the way the world of competitive sporting events works. It is tried and true. It is there for a reason: if your sport is involving some kind of loot (which might be sheer muscle mass even), then you need to sort it out into loot classes for things to be competitive.

Bullies do find it fun to pick on weaker people, and there is always this aspect to games that make people want to cheat or find some kind of leverage so that they have the power to roll people over. It makes them feel good. But it's only fun for the team with the power. The situation will quickly boil down to some people playing not at all.

well spoken Wither, and a good light shone on the real motives behind those who want this inequality to continue.

  10. designers, I just want to thank you. Thank you for completely disregarding anything resembling a level PvP playing field. Thank you for ensuring that CoH loses it's unique quality and is now just another loot based game like other crappy MMOs. And lastly, thank you ever so much for rewarding people who don't do anything other than play 8-12 hours a day with a distinct advantage over your other customers, who I might mention, pay the same monthly fee!

It seems like Tornado would be the better one since it can be used for crowd control as well as damage... and its a ranged AOE instead of a Cone. What makes it so useless?

    [/ QUOTE ]

some skip it because of longer activation time and mediocre damage.
  12. just to adress a couple of your points,

    [ QUOTE ]
    1) Do you suffer for defense? It seems like soloing would be very hard when the only defensive power you really have is Hover and Maneuvers. Personally I only planned on taking hover for defense, am i gonna get spanked?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I really don't think as a kinetic defender that you're going to get a defence score high enough to really even matter 30+ so I'd focus on your debufs SP/FS, your trasnfusion, and your transference to keep alive. The best defence you'll achive as a defender won't make much difference and would at best be a waste of slots. I'm soloing missions on rugged diff. setting (yellows, OJ's, and red bosses) and it's simply just challenging. with kinetics, speed is the key as you've already read in SS's guide. If you're deft with the keyboard and mouse clicks you don't need slotted def. powers. Just bear in mind you're never going to solo as effectively as a scrapper and some tanker builds so as long as you've accepted that then you'll do fine.

    [ QUOTE ]
    2) Is it a mistake not to take Maneuvers and Tactics?

    [/ QUOTE ]

you don't 'need' it but you'll wish you had tactics. You can live without it fine until around 30. After that, you'll suffer. You have no Build Up. You have no Aim. All your best powers require hitting your target. Slotting 2 accuracy SO's instead of one in all your attacks and all your click based primaries isn't efficient slotting. Enough reasons for you yet? Trust me, take tactics, slot it when you can, and don't listen to crappy advice telling you not to.

I noticed you skipped a travel power and using IR for that. cool, saves powers, just remember that knockback/knockdown delays can and will very easily make you dead. you can take hover and bypass that. I know you took concealment asnd I wish I had room for that too on top of hasten, flight, fitness, and leadership, but I think flight is going to serve me much better in the long run than the concealment pool, and there's no way in hell I'd trade in the other 3.

hmm what else... you left lance unslotted. snipes are personal preference I know, but in the late game you have a few control type powers (WD, mass hypnosis, etc) and a couple knockback/knockup powers. perfect times for a 6x damage SO snipe! just food for thought.

Psi tornado I'm only 2-slotting with 1 acc and 1 recharge and using purely for an 'ok' crowd contol. not even taking Psy Scream, I hate cones, I lead with a snipe, and all my attacks will be slotted with a recharge SO since FS+SP easily place you at the defender damage cap most occasions. Plus there's a neat trick I've seen a few Kin's use that this easily attained damage cap allows. You can slot your Wail with at least 4 recharges and use it as a fequent attack. With a fully slotted Wail, TKB, WD, and an unslotted or barely slotted couple of fillers like MB and PT, with perma-hasten and 1 or more recharge SO's in your attacks depending on which one, and a situational Lance, you really don't have much use for Scream IMO, and PT would be bottom of the barrel last on my slotting priorities.
  13. that's a tough one. I'm looking hard at Power Buildup as an EP as well. But just out of curiousity, with 6 damage SO's in an attack power, on top of FS and SP, will I already be reaching the defender damage cap? If not then PBU sounds good. I'm not a numbers expert so no idea.
  14. I noticed none of you are big fans of CJ/SJ/Acro so I was wondering, are you posting mostly outdoor street hunter builds? I'm not a huge fan of the street grind method of levelling so I do a lot of door missions, both solo and in teams. Also, with no CJ or Acro, these builds have pretty much abandoned any kind of mez protection. Not a criticism, just an observation. Might I be better served taking CJ and then eventually Acro for some mez protection instead of 6 slotting Hover if I prefer missions to outdoor street grinding?
  15. all of these well thought out and written posts aside, I have but one simple question which I don't think the devs have answered at all yet and really ought to:

where exactly are you getting your data from to say that the game is too easy for post-30 blasters? Or any AT for that matter? I'm very sorry but I'm not seeing it. Are you basing your data on extreme hardcore gamers? Once again, I apologize but that's a very flawed gauge of the bulk of your player base. It alienates the many to try and bring a few into line with your idea of a balanced game and that's patently unfair. So is trying to force people who don't like supergroups/teams into them. Most of my favorite comic book heroes were not part of the Avengers or the X-men. They were solo heroes, and they were good at it. Note that many Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-men would have been equally effective as the solo heroes on their own as well! I think relegating us all to needing teams rather than having them optional is a poor departure from what the spirit of this game originally was (and I'd like to note, the reason you sold us all on it in the first place). It seems to me that the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is being unwisely ignored here.

So I ask you again, what method are you using to gather your info that says this game is too easy post-30 for blasters? I'd also like to add that I feel this way about what is being done to a lot of other AT's besides blasters with these proposed changes. I'd love to play a controller or a defender but you know what? I'm not a hardcore gamer who has the time to dedicate to those more difficult and challenging AT's. I'm a casual gamer who would likely get frustrated at the amount of dedication AT's like those benefit from. It takes someone with a whole lot of time and patience to play one of those AT's all the way to the upper reaches of 'stardom'.

I think you guys are making this game too hard. I think you're paying too much attention looking in the wrong places at the wrong people for your ideas of how hard this game is. I think the massive number of threads like this one, and how all the AT's seem to be at each other's throats trying to keep your eyes cast on someone else's 'overpowered' characters because they fear how hard you guys swing the nerf bat should have opened your eyes to all of this a long time ago.

Somone had a really good idea somewhere above. Why don't you spend less time looking for ways to weaken all the AT's or make the game too difficult for the average (and majority) players, and spend more time trying to improve the role-playing enjoyment aspects of the game instead? Like the SG HQ's he suggested etc. Ok?
