  1. Well with the comic Image cross promotes if I remember right and putting out an actual comic puts it in the hand of comic shops which promotes in their own way. Most comic shops pretty much buy anything new... all buy anything that is liekly to seel which CoH is... and you know... it hits your demographic so >.>

once you have that out there you have pretty much free monthly advertising for anything else.

looking good and doing it right is often thee reason we are given for things not being done.

If the go through Image... Image retains no rights to the product and handles all the publishing and such. All that a team that makes an image comic needs to do is provide a packet displaying the comic, the team, etc... They do have a thing about not publishing things that have already been published in some way, but from what I have seen that seems to only apply to independents like myself... They also apparently take out a "1 time fee" from the returns of each issue. So if say you publish a comic through them and it makes 10k they take out 1k...if that same issues requires more printing they don't take out another fee...so if it makes another 10k, your overall profit is 19k and not 18k... They do this for each issue and you are able to publish as often or as sparsely as you want... The only real reqs is that the team you put together has to be the same team working on the book or you have provide some sort of consistency thing, but again that seems to only apply to independents... and is because of a quality thing... when you have the company and money to back you they aren't going to have as much of a problem.

The reason that I think the comic book had so many problems is because it wasn't taken seriously enough by someone, they failed on their end which resulted in a ton of complaints, and then the dropping of the comic. If you have people that take it seriously enough or have people that will take care of the problematic parts I don't see where the problem comes in.

As far as I know No player's AE arcs were ever turned into canon. Not even Feargas' arcs are canon.

Edit: And I believe that was to test the feature, not specifically to necessarily designate him as a "guest author" in reality.
You may be right, it's not like I've gone on some extensive search. What I said is just from my memory. I apologize saying it like it was 100% fact... most don't distinguish anyways.

I've only heard 2 people ever be considered guest authored... Hickman and a now dev person...

guest author was first used in reference to people who's AE missions were turned into canon...ie those who already play the game and is from within the community.

More CoH Comic Books: They’re fun to do but they are difficult to manage
Bull. Hire a good artist, writer, colorist, and letter. Get Image on bored. You got yourself a comic. The whole venture costs maybe 2.5 to 5 grand and as long as you sell more than 3000 copies, which is a definite with CoH (and not to mention customary that distributors buy 10k of the first issue), you make profit on every issue even if it sell bad and you break even after 2-4 issues if the entire thing is a flop.

Comics are only difficult to manage when you don't have money and/or a company to back you. You have both.

Also after rereading your post I'm really disappointed with you as your answers were... I don't know, If someone else does it, No, Maybe, No, No, No, No, I'll be around a while. And at least one idea was ignored.

Here's the thing... in reply to every point you made...

You should know and we already have it...You guys just need to make it an official US/UK thing...

I think you missed the point of Guest Authors. The whole point is to promote known and unknown talent within the community. Not Known talent outside of the community.

I know people who make them for fun. They're cheap and easy to make. The lore book, Enhancement guide, character creator, and a number of other things would make great smartphone apps (though not exclusive to them) These are not full time projects either. They take more or less a one time bid on a project they just have to be up to some requirement that allows the data to be managed later on without the programmer... or you can just take one of the coders and put him on it for a short while...

    ok >.>

    Again that's bull...

I wasn't talking about Sprunk specifically... I was talking about crosspromoting. Exchange ad space in game for advertisement elsewhere, like tacobell or what not. Sprunk was just an example of such a cross promotion.

the rest are all ok...and already understood by a majority of people... here's the thing...some advice. Positive, as in that's an awesome idea, let me look into it or We're workink on it or even just "that's a cool idea" is always better than saying NO. If it's an absolute no, ignoring it is far better than giving a reason for that no unless people harp on it. This is because a Yes or Maybe is always better than a No in terms of PR and Nos are often taken as lies later on when something does make it possible to do. Yeses and Maybes are more forgettable to so while they seem more concrete and hardlined they are less so than a No because a No is memorable and you piss people off both in the now and in the future when it becomes a Yes...

I don't know if you were following the PAX EAST thread when that was going on, where folks were posting Tweets about what was happening at the panel for those who couldn't attend. When the dev team showed the video for Kinetics Melee, that sucker was on YouTube in NO TIME FLAT (thanks to enterprising players with cell phones), and the players went nuts when they saw it. Same for the Demon Summoning video.

Your Facebook shows a six-second teaser for GOING ROGUE. In just a couple of hours, there were over 50 comments of players clamouring for more. (And come on, guys - six seconds? WTH? Teaser length could be 30 seconds without giving too much away, while still giving enough flavour and hints to have players going "GIMMEGIMMEGIMME!")

But I'd like to clarify this on a couple of counts:

    1) Don't just make it showing off powers where they're obviously not HITTING anyone. The awesomeness of Dual Pistols was somewhat overshadowed by laughter that a player was firing at POINT BLANK RANGE at opponents and MISSING. Let's see them in action, but REAL action.

    2) More of the "here's how we make things" vids - it's a useful insight for the playerbase to see what goes into bringing the neat things from concept to completiong.

    3) More vids in general - way back when, there were at least a couple of videos per issue (ESPECIALLY when COV came out). They don't take that long, especially if it's just the "run in and film stuff" variant.

    4) Film the M&Gs, and get them up on YT ASAP. There is absolutely NO excuse for it taking FOUR MONTHS to get a 1-minute video up about HeroCon 2009. NONE. Get SOMEONE with a videocamera to stand in the back, film the M&G and the panel, upload it to someplace where Marketing can watch it and security-vet it, then get that thing on YouTube as quickly as possible. That would go a LONG way for showing players that can't make it that you still want them to feel 'involved'.

*This isn't a "hire me" post. You've got someone already - David's a good guy AND a good videographer. He has lots of great ideas (he and I spent HOURS talking at HeroCon 2008 and 2009 about videos and ideas and ads and whatnot). UTILIZE HIM. PLEASE. Expand his team if you have to, but you're already paying for server space and bandwidth, and YouTube is free. Turn him loose on making vids and make them shareable.

I agree... I don't see how one could even argue it would take a long time to do a movie. Assuming one is familiar with demo code and all the various commands or have a very comprehensive list of what can and can't be done one could very easily make almost anything within minutes... Seriously... You could in theory do an entire movie with demo code fairly easily if you knew the commands well enough and were that good with cutting and working with positioning...

I see no reason to not go balls out with videos...
  8. the problem with rep is that it gives people an exscuse to say "proplr don't like you some reason so your advice is probably bad or wrong" which creates a loop that generates more neg rep... it's a horrible thing that turns into a boys club that only those willing to form a small cabal of people actually have good rep and are listened to... It happens on a lot of forums I've seen. Luckily there is an off switch here.
  9. Since it sort of got overshadowed some how by the "more comics" suggestion I want to repeat...

I want a LORE book of some sort that tells us lore information. Not Mechanics information... And this is different from paragonwiki because paragonwiki focuses on mechanics and has lore as a side thing more or less that just happened to be a part of other information gathered rather than focusing on it...

First, I don't think Manticore is the one who wrote the bible...

Second, Even if it was him who did write the bible I have to say from experience in creating large amounts of characters and ideas and lore for various worlds it's near impossible to garentee you are gonig to keep those things straight especially as time goes on and you have different views of those characters.

You're making a mountain out of a molehill, Johnny. When you get asked a question like that you generally go off memory and depending on where your memory of that detail comes from you can easily get it wrong or you could just forget. That's why you can not take what is said on the forums and in comics and such as canon. On the other hand you can take game lore as canon more often because it often has to go through several check points asking "is that right?"

    Idea for a video

I've been trying to figure out how demo record files work and after 2 days of messing with them I see this is gonna be a bit harder than I thought originally >.> mainly due to not being used to the coordinate system and not knowing the emotes well... So I may eventually get this done, but I highly doubt it...

    The video idea is thus...

Vahzilok and Dr. Aeon sing "Still Alive"

Obviously need 2 different voices to sing the 2 parts.
Should take place in Vahzilok's layer for it to work...

This is roughly how I broke up the song and what's to happen in planning...

Aeon: This is a Triumph. I'm makeing a note here: Huge Success. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction... Vahzilok Science (Dr. Aeon walks into Vahzilok's Layer
Vahzilok shows 5 dead and revived heros. Aeon says "Triumph". Clipboard emote -notes down "huge success" Aeon is really happy? Some sort of celebration emote)

Vahzilok: We do what we must because we can. For the good of all of us.

Aeon: Except the ones who are dead (show pile of body bags)

Vahzilok: But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake. And the science get's done. (distracts Aeon back to the success)

Aeon: And you make a neat gun. (Aeon looks at Vahzilok's arm)

Vahzilok: For the people who are still alive (Vahzilok points at Aeon)

Aeon: I'm not even Angry. I'm being so sincere right now. Even though you broke my heart (quick scene change Aeon's on the ground) And killed me. And tore me to pieces. And through every piece into a fire. As they burnt it hurt because I was so happy for you.

Vahzilok: Now these points of data make a beautiful line. And we're out of beta. And we're realing on time. So I'm glad. (Vahzilok operates on Aeon)

Aeon: I got burned. (Aeon on operation table)

Vahzilok: Think of all the things we learned. For the people who are still alive.

Aeon: Go ahead and leave me. I think I prefer to stay inside. Maybe you'll find someone else to help you. Maybe Arachnos. THAT WAS A JOKE. HAHA. FAT CHANCE. Anyway, this cake is great. It's so delicious and moist. Look at me still talking when there's Science to do. When I look out there, it makes me GLaD I'm not you. I've experiments to run. There is research to be done. On the people who are still alive. And believe me I am still alive. I'm doing Science and I'm still alive. I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive. (Aeon turned into a vahz minion. Calls up Recluse and says he's still alive)

Aeon: While you're dying I'll be still alive. And when you're dead I will be still alive. (sees Vahzilok surrounded by Arachnos minions)

Aeon: STILL ALIVE (x2) (sighs at being turned into a "zombie")
  14. Blue Battler... i think you just ruined part of the coming storm arc...

And really sorta screws with the villains side if what I think is right...

Basically I think the ultimate goal of Orobouros is to save Statesman so all the forces aren't weakened and can fend off the shivans and the coming storm... If that is correct I am highly annoyed as we as characters are supposed to be on equal grounds with the other iconic heroes and villains and it would suck that your importance is to stop to save Statesman to save the world >.>

Because of the ways games work I'd say... games all have Soft cannon, and follow Dr who lore rules which is whatever is newest is the official canon... I'd also place the site and game itself on equal footing as the site has been approved and gone through multiple channels and it's a lot harder to get things on the site than it is to get an easter egg in the game or just something that was over looked.
  16. I wouldn't save the alternate even if I could because it could be a trick... Remember the army on the other side of the Portal is of you suggesting that almost all your alternates at least for hero-side are villains and there is no telling whether your alternate had been replaced or not.
  17. what i meant is how do you view the progression of time through the missions... generally speaking...

Year 1 = Rookie year where you establish yourself, ussually fight street crime.
Year 2 = City relies on you more, Main Villains start coming out of the wood work
Year 3 = Joining bigger groups, or bigger groups start recognizing you, main villains become established...
    Year 4 = ???

So as you go through these missions time is passing but how much and where is the imaginary dividing line between years... to me it seems that roughly every 10 levels is a year... The year 6 stuff is more or less the most recent additions, and year 7+ will be going rogue's, Icarnates, and stuff like that.

for each character though I see it as each character doing it in the same year as all the characters...

So in a sense to a lvl 1, the Praetorians don't exist yet...
  18. What I mean is...

every level 50 can go through x missions in a given amount of time, but really those have been roughly the same missions for the last 6 years....

So When do you view the mission events to take place?

    I'd say something like

    Mission levels...
    1-15 = Year 1
    15-25 = Year 2

    Going Rogue + = Year 6+?
  19. Not talking about just power or stats wise... but their character and how it does it's thing and why and all like that...

Miss Liberty is somewhat like Wonder Woman

I don't think that the reason it's hard to place the villains is because they are unique but rather the villains themselves haven't been fleshed out much... Many of them are the comic equivilent of one shots and haven't been very fleshed out because they aren't very reoccuring.
  20. Everyone says that Statesman is the Superman of CoH... and the shear fact of the matter is that no matter how original you try to be archtypes of characters do come up...

So Who are the Analogs of well known iconic heroes of other universes in the CoH universe...

Manticore is more or less the analog of Batman
Recluse is more or less the analog of Magneto

    Where's the Oracle?
    Where's the Joker?
    Where's the X-men?
    Where's Professor X?

The Three Sisters were the only ones who remained to the present day, but their origin is that they were empowered humans.

It's not that Cole received the 'spirit' of Zeus, but Zeus, Imperious, and Cole all received the same form of empowerment which is named after the first or most famous guy to receive it, Zeus.

If the Greek gods really were gods... where are they now?

And all that from the novel clearly contradicts the in-game mythology that there are supernatural entities called gods.
Game take precedence over all other sources of information.

Also, It is possible that Zeus was a human that was an incarnate of those powers, but that does not mean that the Zeus powers are not part of some other actual god from which those are derived. Especially since it is clear in muiltiple sources that Marcus Cole has different personalities... He speaks sometimes as Statesman/Marcus Cole and sometimes he speaks as Zeus... which means that the Zeus source is a sentient being.

    See? Logical.
No. "Gods" in CoHverse are not just Humans with magical Powers. Statesman is an Incarnate of Zeus. In mythology an Incarnate is a being that is a human born aspect of a god. This is an inaccurate term for Statesman because he was not born the way he was... He is really an Avatar which is a being that is a Human that represents an aspect of a god.... which is similar to an Incarnate, but different. Zeus in either case is a separate entity to Statesman and all Zeus' Avatars.

Pocket D and Ouroboros are not alternate worlds... they are Pocket dimensions...A pocket dimension is structure is similar to an alternate world, but it is connected to a given reality isn't expanded to a whole universe...

The only way I can think to explain it is is like when you have a whole bunch of bubbles... Individual bubbles are alternate worlds, but small bubbles connected to a bigger bubble is a pocket dimension.
