Venture... The canon is still being developed as of this second therefor nothing is canon. That is what your argument is.
as far as Cimemora being a problem...umm no Pandora's box was "made" after Cimemora obviously. If the book contradicts this point then the devs made a mistake which which is likely with the changing of writers.
Samuel,
An explanation is right here for Nature Spirits http://www.fbsavanguard.org/wiki/Paragon_Times/20050615
And i didn't say they stopped needing worshippers I said they need worship to survive, but it is likely not worship itself, but rather some general projection of emotion or psyche energy. -
Either the netherworld is a term talking about a set of universes with a given attribute and/or it is that and another plane of existence.
It is not Hell. Graphically it isn't suggested and tectually they are never linked.
Dark Astoria is the Spirit World border breaking down, the same as Croatoa/Salamanca. The Netherworld is simply a 'rift' being opened or rather a portal. To say Dark Astoria is the netherworld is to say that Portal Corp is Praetoria and the Netherworld and others -
Spoilers ahead...
The more i read up on Oranbega it makes me wonder why the devs didn't just call it Atlantis... It's obvious that it is.
Atlantis = Brutal Warriors and Thinker/Philosophers
Oranbega = Philosophers and Thinkers
Atlantis = Mu came first
Oranbega = Mu came 2nd
Atlantis = Ahead of it's time
Oranbega = Ahead of it's time
Atlantis = sunk
Oranbega = sunk
Atlantis = Supposedly ended for making the gods mad
Oranbega = Ended for making the gods mad
Atlantis = Supposedly existed in 12000 BCE
Oranbega = existed in 12000 BCE
So...two differences...but the first, historically speaking, the accounts we have of Atlantis comes from savages that were their enemies. I'm sure they would call our guns Brutal and us Warriors. and the second could be the result of a dev getting the mythology wrong.
With it being so obvious...Why not call it Atlantis?
** commentary about the possible social commentary of Oranbega **
** Read at your own risk...don't start flaming or trolling **
Also... the message of Oranbega seems... pretty ****** up. Everyone in the game that knows about the history of the Mu seems proud of it and that is really sick. Hequat is a goddess who is literally attacking and oppressing philosophers and scientists and people that make the world go round and in doing so raised up a civilization of braindead zealots which every magic NPC is proud to be related to.
And also the idea that these highly advanced people who directly informed how to perform magic and that there were gods, by a god that knows they have enemies, would have to call upon Demons to win a war screams so much of religious bigotry it's insane
On the other hand Hequat being shown as an evil goddess and a thriving Oranbega society that is peaceful seems to change this perspective...but the thing is these both happen at 40+ which seems to indicate to me someone realized what I said above and went in and wrote those up. It makes me wonder were those written by the same person... it doesn't sound like they were. -
Quote:Actually I would prefer to write out everything that isn't a direct quote from the game...and for those I'm not sure if it would be best to ref link to paragonwiki or just leave it as it is right now, which is list where in the game it can be found or just copy/paste the text... but the second certainly is the easiest for mission text information. In all honesty, if you have to mangle the URL to reserve it, it will just be harder for people to find it. Go with CityOfLore.
You are intending to refer back to known, reliable sources on ParagonWiki, right? It will cut down on the massive amounts of writing you'll have to do for topics like the 5th Column, The Regulators, and whatnot. And, it will increase the site's credibility. -
Quote:What do you mean too many wikis? There is ParagonWiki that doesn't work for Lore in it's current form and then there is "server" and RP wikis... There aren't "too many"I honestly think CoH has too many wikis as is, and I'm not a fan that the OP has made another.
It can be confusing enough for me to find the up-to-date Wiki, let along for a new player. The last thing we need is another wiki.
I don't mean to be a downer, but why again can lore just not be added to the current CoH wiki? Why not make it a central source of information instead of having to browse 2 or 3 different wikis to look for something?
As far as "why not put it into ParagonWiki?" Paragonwiki and it's format isn't good for lore. Anything more than that will lead me to getting more neg rep and take this thread off track as well as possible create hard feelings so just leave it at that ^.^ Obviously there are people that think there is a need for this type of wiki so that's enough to back up my reason for why >.> -
ParagonU.org <- .com taken but .org available
PargonUniversity.org <- taken
PU.org <- just really bad
CityofLore.org <- can get would likely get .com
CoL.org? <- can probably get but the above would be better
TheFBSA.org? <- too many people have similar
FBSAFiles.org? <- too many people have similar
PortalCorp.org? <-taken
ParagonInfoNet.net? <- lame
So it comes down to ParagonU.org or CityofLore.com
And we're 3 peole like each Paragon University or City of Lore... -
The box does jive with the game and why do you think that it was taken from Web of Arachnos rather than it being the source and Web of Arachnos expounding on what was there?
-
Gods, in CoH, are specifically nature spirits that evolved beyond control of the elements and need worship and devotion from mortals.
Nature spirits i assume is a more shinto idea, because Nature spirits in greek came from the gods... So...
A god is a manifistation of something in nature that has reached a point that their existence does not tie them to the elements themselves, but require worship* as a food source/power source.
This could be through something like getting a physical body... hence why the Banished Pantheon was defeated and put down so easily once their spirits were removed from their bodies.
In other words a god is a nature spirit that finds away to posess a physical body. Doing so allows them access to divine powers and to do this they worship*.
Also if we're taking mythology as accurate to some degree Nature Spirits became gods and then when they had off spring some were gods or demigods while others became nature spirits and that makes a bit of sense...
And historically it is stated that these gods introduced themselves and commanded worship of people as an alliance, not as some sort of obey me or else.
Considering this... >.> I'm not gonna go there ^.^
* Worship is not accurate. It could be said that the gods feed off emotional energy or something like that as Leghubu's pantheon discovers fear is a more potent source... however the other gods don't agree with doing it that way. -
Yeah i know this is silly, but I found it quite fun in PSO... Add a simple mini-game that players can play while they are just socializing or something like a sport that is really easy to code, like soccer. Create a object that moves in the direction it is pushed and put it in an arena and you got yourself a mini-soccer game.

Quote:I have no idea what the book actually says as I haven't read it.No they can't. In Web of Arachnos the Three Sisters claim there are no gods, so in you're scenario they were wrong.
My response was to the idea that the greek gods were incarnates and not actual gods.
Not that gods didn't exist at all.
Also the "three sisters", the furies, are gods themselves which automatically discredits their statements. -
ParagonU.org?
PargonUniversity.org?
PU.org?
CityofLore.org?
CoL.org?
TheFBSA.org?
FBSAFiles.org?
PortalCorp.org?
ParagonInfoNet.net?
.org and .net if i remember is cheaper, but also it's the more proper domain name to use... dot com is for Commercial businesses ^.^ -
Quote:From my understanding...no and yes... Pandoara's Box being opened allowed it to happen, but from what I can tell the opening itself didn't do anything besides allow things to happen or activate the things that already happened. For example part of the story of the back story of Ms. Liberty talks about her mother and grandmother and about the Girdle of Hera which leaks power and is the reason for so many Supers existing in Paragon City.I find it very interesting that he only dimension (we know of) where Statesman is good is Primal earth. And that Primal earth, as far as we know, is the only dimension that Recluse exists in.
I'm really hoping for a "I wasn't quite dead!" in Praetoria. Who knows? Maybe he's lurking around the resistance, or maybe he leads the Syndicate.
Correct me if Im wrong but, Pandoras box was the source of all superhero power correct? And whenever it is opened a new surge of power is distributed throughout the world? -
Quote:It is possible for both to be true. It could be that the gods have no physical form and/or cannot exist in the physical plane without a body, or those particular gods can't, and thus whenever you hear about them they are always incarnates, but they are also the god as well. That was stated in the first novel but every other source of lore (second novel, comics, in game lore, and Manticore's lore thread) contradict it.
Go look at Recluse's Bio. I actually was annoyed at the fact that people kept on talking about this nonsensical thing called the Pandora Box and all my searches for the most part led me down dead ends, but in Recluse's Bio on the site it gives a much better recounting of what happened to Cole and himself in that time period. And a lot of Cole's information in his early days comes from Recluse's bio. -
Quote:i is fixed itwww.cityoflore.com seems to be available, as are the .net and .org variants.
I'll keep my eye on this, maybe contribute a few things. It could be an neat resource for AE arc referencing.
Also, the temp link in your sig is incorrect, you set it as .com instead of .org :P -
I keep on forgetting that this is the internet.
If you want believe your nonsense that's great. -

When you have to say it's possible by cheating it's an admittance that it is might as well be impossible. I mean you and I could sit in a room writing billion digit numbers for eons and given infinity there is a possibility that one day one day one of us might write the same number that the other had at one time, but then we're not talking about that...we're talking about writing the same number at the same time and that would take an infinity of infinities... and when you get that low, you've lost any credibility to say that it is possible in any sense of the practical usage of the word.

You said:
"and easier to explain why Earth seems to exist and kind of be the same in so many this way."
That is utter nonsense.
If it weren't it would be the favored hypothesis.
You said it was easier to explain and then said it's magic. Magic is unexplained. That is contradictory and thus nonsense. -
Quote:That is utter nonsense.Personally, I still prefer the idea of convergent realities more than that of divergent ones, at least for fiction. It's more interesting to try and guess what it is that realities are converging upon, why they are doing so and through that explain the similarities and differences between them. It's more fun than different ancient histories and easier to explain why Earth seems to exist and kind of be the same in so many this way.
Take 10 objects and give them 10,000 variables and try to get them to slowly move towards a all 10,000 of those variables being the same. Over a very very very long time you might get them all to line up, but the probability is so low that it is unlikely any of those objects will every be anything alike.
Conversely Take 1 object with 56,000,000,000,000 variables and divide it into 100,000,000 objects slowly over time with, each time a new one is created setting it's variables as the same that spawned it. Over long times there will be progressively less similarities but they will always be far more similar than the convergent objects at most points in history save for very rare occurrences that would likely never happen.
In other words... The chances that realities that are alike are convergent in this way are as so low that it might as well be called impossible. The chances that realities that are alike being divergent are near pretty much so close to 100% you might as well just say it is.
on the other hand there is another way... There is another theory that argues that if there are divergent universes they would compulsively converge at a later point in history.... Of course, if i remember right, that theory also argues that one or both of the universes ceases to exist upon convergence and in the case of both a new universe is created having the history of both the other two. -
Well once we come with a good name it would be great to get an unique logo and or banner
Can't think of anything else... less I spontaneously learn to code in PHP 100% ^.^ I personally wanted a sleaker, dark purple skin, but that got tossed out the window when I couldn't figure out how to construct the skin well enough. -
the problem with FBSA do a search
http://www.thefbsa.com/
http://www.fbsa.com/
http://www.fbsa.org/
So... the only option for this would be something like
TheFBSA.org
FBSAFiles.com
or
FBSAFiles.org
if i were to go with... -
Quote:Sounds about right... Though I've never heard of Protegenoi or there being a Cronos and a Cronus...and I would see what the book I have on the subject says, but I don't want to look for it at the moment...or research it at the moment so I'll take your word for it as it sounds right enough with what I know off hand. No, Tartarus is more akin to the sibling of Gaia and Uranus. In fact, Tartarus and Gaia together spawn the monster Typhon.
Yes, Tartarus is both an entity and a location, but he's not a titan like Cronus, Oceanus, Phoebe, Tethys, ... I don't remember the rest.
*now I'm looking things up*
Tartarus is one of the Protogenoi, from which all of the gods descend. This group includes Aether (light), Chaos (void), Chronos (time)*, Erebus (darkness), Eros (love), Gaia (earth), Hemera (day), Nyx (night), Ophion (serpent), Phanes (generation), Tartarus (hellpit), and Uranus (heaven).
* Chronos the protogenos is not to be confused with Chronus the titan.
