How to do this? I may be the wrong person to give suggestions on this, as I'm not a big 'lore' person (I play the game to have fun, and often don't read the 'story' as I do a lot of reading in the real world).

    However, there are many resources online about volunteering and the motivations for it. One of these is entitled "Why People Volunteer" by Canadian Heritage (http://www.nald.ca/fulltext/heritage...e/WhyPplE1.htm) and the following are listed as incentives to get people to volunteer;

    • Achievement
    • Recognition and feedback
    • Personal growth
    • Giving something back
    • Bringing about social change
    • Family ties
    • Friendship, support, bonding and a feeling of belonging
As this is your project (you're effectively the project lead) some or all of these will need to be present to convince people to give up their time to your project. And, interestingly, the opposite is also true - without a sense of achievement or acknowledging people's points of view, people may be discouraged to volunteer time to a cause or project.

In any case, it's not preferable to take on a project this size on your own. If you do, you'll most likely end up burnt out and/or bitter.
If you or anyone has suggestions I'm all ears. I don't seen any more need for such things besides it's a good thing to have and I enjoy learning canon. I presume others do too...and that should be enough at least to me.
  2. Personally I don't like that there is a difference in power between a lvl 20 and lvl 40 minion. They should only be difference in power where lore-wise there would be one, but that is a whole different game... an awesome game where all minions would be flicked away after a while.

I would also make it so you only get prestige from taking down big baddies and doing story arcs, not minnions or lieutenants... Who ever heard of becoming famous for knocking out Giggles...even in the slightest...

p.s. for those who don't get the "giggles" reference shame on you for not knowing the names of henchmen in 60s Batman!

I know it's fashionable to address both sides of the game as 'City of Heroes' (a lot of the time even the devs do it here and elsewhere), and I know it may seem petty on my part considering the co-op content and the fact that most packs people buy gives them both games now, but I do think CoV is a unique experience that, while it has a lot of shared content and mechanics with its 'parent', is still a very different animal in many areas of content (and the archetypes work very differently, in my opinion).

In terms of lore, there are marked differences between the Rogue Isles and Paragon City (and I'm roping Shadow Shard into this, as villains can't access it except through instanced missions).

Maybe I'm just being precious because I spend virtually all my time playing villains and most of that in the Rogue Isles (not co-op zones). I'm not anti co-op or anything (I enjoy mixed teams), but I love the vilain content and the archetypes. And maybe this is just because CoV as a brand feels like it's disappearing to me, but I think it's still worthy of a mention alongside its big brother/sister.

I shall put my soapbox away now. Thank you for your time
No one I know of calls it City of Villains. It doesn't make sense to do so. To me it just seems like a waste to say City of Heroes and City of Villains and City of Heroes: Going Rogue which if it were to be correct it would be City of Praetoria.

That being said. That's only a temp page sorta thing...As soon as i figure out what to actually put on there I'll change it ^.^ and it will likely have both mentioned along with Going Rogue.

For some of you that have been wondering why it still looks so sparse... well... because I'm working on the biggest single article and likely most important likely to ever be on the site which is...

    http://www.cityoflore.com/wiki/Multi...Earth/Timeline

that thing is huge... I'm only to the 1930s and I'm only about halfway done.

That's not 100% true. servers can indirectly cause a system to crash by causing the client to cause the system to crash.

CoH has recently become a processor and ram hog... it was up near 100% of my CPU and 1GB of RAM so it has something to do with the client. Just not sure what.

It's either the heat or UM. Given that it's been hotter and it's not happened while on the other hand UM has been causing problems on my system since it was added to the client and there is many sources of it I have to say it probably has something to do with UM and/or the servers.
  7. I don't know about that but for the first time ever CoH blue screen crashed my PC a few hours ago which I'm not happy about... especially after I turned down many of the settings.
  8. So here's a problem...

    The Children of Enos...

What is their timeline and how did Cap au Diable really get its' name...

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Lorekeeper_Badge
    http://www.cityofheroes.com/game_inf...arly_year.html
    http://www.cityofheroes.com/game_inf...e_isles_c.html
    http://www.cityofheroes.com/game_inf...olonial_p.html

these pages have the information involved...It does seem to contradict, but not at the same time.

    The Lore Wiki

currently the refs to game content is like this...

    For Story arcs
"Game: Diviner Maros - Sharkhead Isle (-1336, 0, -758) - The Cult of the Shaper"
    For Plaques
"Game: Cap au Diable Plaque (-1712, 0, -1108)"

    These are not linked anywhere...

The plaques I think should probably be transfered over to a CtyofLore page and linked to, but the contact/mission arcs they'll either stay with no links or linked to paragonwiki...

I asked for opinions about this somewhere in the last few pages and got no responses.

Yup. I spent the last week getting it to work and getting it looking right and then I've just been working on it slowly for the last 2 or 3 days, adding more to the timeline, which is the biggest main thing, as I feel like it, in between reading Batman comics (I've read something like 100-150 issue in the last month and 200-300 in the last 6)

    The Lore Wiki

Well what would be helpful is

finding and loading up Turn arounds of the various races.
designing a logo. (posted a topic in the fan art thing)
finding more sources and adding them to the references already there. (i know there are more than what I have up there)
Statesman's time line needs to be marked up for links
Transfering articles that are like books or such things like that from paragonwiki.
Make sure there are no spelling errors and no grammar errors.

More or less finding and loading good images, Editing (as in correcting), finding sources.
  12. So some of you may know and some you may not but I have created a wiki for the official lore of CoH... And it needs a banner/logo...

So wondering if you fine folks would be willing to help...

The site is at http://CityofLore.com so as to see the current format.

    CityofLore.com

Just thought I'd come here and mention that I am making this. A Wiki for the official lore of City of Heroes.

The reason I'm posting it here along with the already posted in general forum is because you guys are probably one of the groups that will find the most use out of it and I know not everyone checks all the forums...

It's a long way from being extremely useful but with help and time all things are possible...

    Anyways the site is http://CityofLore.com

I really look forward to the Lore Wiki getting complete. I'd contribute, but contributing on Wiki sites always gives me a headache. Poor excuse, sure, but I shall at least wish you some good luck in your endeavour!

There are many things you can do with scantily clad women ^.^

And as for the wiki... I needs people to help with it, otherwise it shall never be done... well done enough to be considered done anyways.

I would like some cool banners...not necesarily like unleashed...
  16. Indeed it could create some eye gougingly horrible costumes, but also make some extremely awesome costumes.

    The Lore Wiki

Yes some banners would be nice...

So... I wonder if Newty is reading this or wating for me to PM her...
  18. close up images of organic armor parts, without the patterns...
The regardless the glowie pieces are based on the secondary color.

edit: seems i messed up a bit and put two "back" pics. oh well... the gloves are the important part ^.^
  19. What do I mean? and why?

If I cared to do the work to match it up this would be a lot easier to show but what i mean is...

Add another texture layer to each of the parts. Texture layers are the patterns, bump maps, etc... Now if we add another pattern layer that only has one color that is placed over or under the other pattern layer... doing this would allow for so many more designs.

There are quite a few patterns that i wish i could use with others, but having to choose one or the other often makes me choose neither.
  20. all together they look meh imo, but thinking about them in parts both have pieces that i like and can use

    Oranbega...

You're right. My bad, I was wrong.

Still counts as mid atlantic as it's a relative word. anything in the atlantic is midatlantic though technically not the middle of the atlantic... but that doesn't stop us from calling a section of the US the mid atlantic region.

OR it could go something like:

    First writer says x.

Second writer says Y.They notice it is incongruent, and change it, because hey, everybody's human.
see that's not quite how it would work...

There is actually another quasi-tier above tier 1 which is the Game Bible or whatever you want to call it.

    So basically...

    game says x
    dev says y

x = canon as far as we players are concerned...

    however

Game Bible says y and dev was getting his info from there and thus we find the contradiction and fix it so that x = y. Then y = canon.

The reason the Game Bible is quasi canon is because theoretically it is the end all to all conversations. However, things do get added and changed and has been described the game bible gives more of a rough outline than it does all the nitty gritty details (though those are probably added later once they have been written) plus it isn't technically "official" depending on how you look at it. There for even though the game bible is quasi-canon tier 0 hypothetically it's not something we as players, unless we ever get to see it, should consider 'canon'

Game is more canon because it's hard to argue once it's in the game...

The site is more canon than a dev stating information for the same reason devs aren't to be 100% trusted. The details that devs talk about can come from quasi canon, their own thoughts and ideas, or any other number of places and a lot of times it hasn't been vetted by everyone that would need to vet it to get it on the site or in the game.

A dev talking about something hasn't gone through everyone that makes those decisions so it cannot ever be taken as above those sources that have been...

or if you want to make it a simple numbers issue (or to base it solely on devs to appease some of you) Game info and Site info is vetted by more devs and by the people who call the shots so it take precedence over any thing any 1 dev says.

Even looking at it from "the devs said so" angle put it where i put it.

Also other continuities have this issue about quasi-canon. Star Trek people argue it all the time, but the majority consensus is if it doesn't make into the final product it is not part of canon even if it is as simple as they didn't have time to film it or they cut it so it is accidentally left out. There are tons of Star Trek notes about various things in Star Trek scripts and countless things just cut, but were filmed. For the most part it's not considered canon.

if they were going to put that in the game i'd like to see how they do it in Mass Effect.

Personally I think there is a lot of information that would be stupid for the heroes/villains not have on hand. They are licensed and trained by an organization that has files on a bunch of these people...are you telling me they aren't going to provide you with a dossier of strengths, weaknesses, background, or anything else that may help yuo solve the case?

Just as a note, Bermuda lays south east of the U.S. so going north west of it puts you closer to the U.S. not further out.
The sentence is a complete thought, it's just not a very well constructed thought. You have to break it down into it's parts and even then the sentence doesn't make much sense in terms of "where" exactly

And yes... your right it would be closer, but the the statement still stands. the rogue isles are close enough to the bermuda to be considered as a reference point over states or coastal cities.
