Quote:Well I don't feel like getting another message from ocho for talking about politics, religion, and other such things which this would result in."I can't talk about it so you're wrong" is not an argument.
Nobody is making any assumptions
And yes, you are making assumptions. -
Quote:Puts a spin on all the hating on me doesn't it? lolPlease tell me you're just playing devil's advocate and don't actually believe that.
It's not that Anti_Proton is wrong, it's that he is presupposing a position that just isn't accurate. The position is semi-correct, but not the way it is put nor the details involved. Basically, the reason humanity's "good" is good is not because it is humanity, but rather because it achieves the greatest amount of good for the individual.
It's one of those things that goes into various tangents and such... -
Quote:That's not true at all. You are making an assumption that the needs of a group are more important than the need of an individual. You are making a leap where there is no need to try to support a pre-held conclusion rather than thinking it through."My happiness is good. You think I'm evil. If i kill you that makes me happy, thus my killing you is good.
This is basic ethics and story writing stuff. "
...except by killing another, you remove their potential to provide for the species, which is as basic as it comes. Our individual needs are an illusion when it comes to the needs of humanity as a whole and thus evil is that which conflicts with those needs.
As I pointed out, can't talk about these things really in depth on the forums, so again, basically... you are just wrong. -
Quote:My happiness is good. You think I'm evil. If i kill you that makes me happy, thus my killing you is good.Yes, there are. There are people who are fully aware that they are acting for purely selfish reasons, and do evil things with no delusions that they are benefiting anyone but themselves.
The mercenary who will kill anyone for the right price.
The would-be dictator who is in it for personal power rather than trying to further any particular ideology.
The jerk who kicks puppies because he can.
The monster who realizes that's what he is and still enjoys it.
This game is full of them.
This is basic ethics and story writing stuff.
Quote:It's just this new wacky concept called anarcho-fascism.
To explain these things I would have to talk about things that are unallowed on the forums so just... You are wrong will have to suffice. -
You do realize good and evil is based on public perception of your actions and not your own perception. Any writer worth anything knows that there is no such thing as a person who views what they are doing to be evil. They either view their actions as good or a necessary evil that will lead to good. Good and evil are relative terms... and clearly when we are calling someone good or evil in the game we are basing it on their relative position to Paragon City's "heroes". If we look at things from a more global stand point Paragon City could be considered the villains far more easily than the Praetorians, The Rogue Islands, or the Rikti.

It's likely that there is no international games in City of Heroes...and if there is there is either no supers or everyone is supers... so >.>

Would you buy an Annual Expansion of CoH?
What would you expect from one?
If you would (wouldn't), Why? (Why not?) -
Another idea... Have contests like "have your toon become so-and-so's side kick" or "have your toon become so-and-so's love interest" and add that to the game.
Or have a contest for a mascot character or something like that. The devs are always saying they don't want the characters to feel always like second banana to the NPCs...well then why not feature some of them or put some of them on the boxes. That would go a long way with relative ease. -
I like Lord Recluse... I don't like Red Side... Red Side isn't Villainy... You are an operative of the Rogue Isles.
For Villains to be Villains they need to be in paragon and be able to do dynamic content where you get an idea for a plan and go in and do several missions in self created/auto generated arc where you collect items/people to bring a plan to fruition. With this system your base should get bigger and better as you level up too as you would be accumulating this stuff over time.
Blue side... Statesman is missing if I remember right >.> -

Now get back to making new zones! -
Well
#1. Incarnate system is a follow up on the Cimerora and the concept of Incarnates... it also is the follow through with story of the gods that is part of the Circle of Thorns story adnd the Council, and Arachnos, and 5th Column.
#2. Praetoria follows up on the Portal corp stuff with dimension hopping and such.
#3. What the dev should do about the Rikti... like a suggestion I had. Create a zone where the good Rikti are trying to settle down and have portal corp help them establish a portal home and establish relations (since the good rikti are the majority) and the mobs are all weird due to that... Then let the enemy Rikti make fortified area...revamp creys folly maybe to and make the enemy Rikti team with Nemesis...
This would pretty much wrap up the rikti story and tie it into Praetoria as well as ope up something cool like you know, letting us see the Rikti Earth, having a cool "going rogue" zone where morality is really tested, and possibly get a moon zone ^.^ -
I wouldn't say the brain is a quantum computer i do think that there is something more than just pure computation and cause and effect because there are things that I do that make no sense within that pure concept at least to my knowledge of everything about me that i know. For example there is no reason I should have taken up art. There is no logical progression from me being whoever I was to me writing and drawing at a very young age before i was ever taught or shown that stuff. In other words there is no way that I know of that I could have picked up the idea for art from anywhere to start the cause and effect chain. However if you add in a bit of virtual particles and such it makes more sense to me.
But then again...my first memories, like most peoples are from about when I was 3 so there may be stuff that happened that I simply don't know about that led me to already have an idea of art.
as far as why music, rhyme, motion, helps increase memory I think it has more to do with the fact that you are making a proprietary connection between an action and data... in other words...it's kinda like loading up a variable array where there are several keys that if you are missing one bit of data due to degraded pathway the several connections reinforce and re-add the missing data/connection.
Basically if you have 7 connections that are (on a scale where 1 = massively degraded and 10 = perfect) at 1 you will still easily remember it over 1 connection that is a 10.... in effect making many lvl 1 connections equal to better than a lvl 10.
This is also where OCD and things like that come from. Your brain gets stuck in a cycle because you've somehow created too many connections to something and that reinforces it and continues the cycle...
It'd be interesting to see a good programmers take on abnormal psychology states. I'd think it would give some interesting results in AI and Psychology -
Hrmmm interesting thing about holograms...didn't know that...
So basically the brain is...
a quantum computer with hologram HDD with a multivector array running pattern finder program.
Also the oldest known hard things to remember are oral traditions/stories such the vedas and beowulf... It well known that these are all done in a poetic manor, had motions that go with the story, and music...
Rhymes are keys, motions are keys, sounds are keys. That's why you can sing songs years later when their music starts or you hear the lyric even though you can't remember them off hand.
Why do you think when we give phone numbers for example we go ###-###-##-## rather than ####-##-###-## and why phone numbers given in those styles are much harder to remember along with extensions.
There are many things like that, many people deny, and why when you know that type of stuff the world is much easier to navigate in someways if you can use it.
For example... a number of buildings have been analyzed and it has been discovered that we tend to build in certain patterns. the golden mean being one, and that you can associate musical notes to these structures. Because of this, someone that is blind, if they were to know the score of building they could easily navigate it because them humming it would help them remember where to go if they knew at any point how it correlated. -
Oh btw the answer is Soon ^TM

Quote:I'm not up on the exact numbers and didn't look them up for people outside the bat family. There is however a great unofficial DCU timeline thing you can find pretty easy with all dates and such...I see DC's bumped up the ages a bit since Infinite Crisis. Neither Supes nor Bats were over 40 before (and I seriously doubt a five year age difference between them...where did you get this?). Also last I knew, WW wasn't hundreds of years old, although the Amazons were. WW was always played as more "contemporary".
Superman is 23 when he starts (just remembered due to thinking about smallville lol)
Batman is 23 or 24 when he starts a year later
Batman picks up Robin in his 3rd year (26/27)
Dick Grayson is Robin for 6 years (32/33)
Jason Todd is picked up that same year and is Robin for 2 years (34/35)
He is alone for 1 year (35/36)
Tim Drake is 14 when he becomes Robin and is now 18 or 19 so 4/5 years. (38/39/40)
That Makes Superman 41 and Batman 40
How does one measure time in the DCU? By counting Robins -
I don't mean so sound mean but if you think prices will go down...well you're not very smart.
Just looking at it it's pretty obvious that if you mainly play red side you have just got boned.
For blue side there is slightly more demand and slightly more supply so the prices shouldn't fluctuate any more than they already do... which is horrendous, but whatever.
For red side there is a massive influx of demand and supply so the prices, like blue side shouldn't fluctuate any more than they already do...
Here's the kicker though... Red side has less money and has generally lower prices and less salvage so what will happen is all red side items will be bought up right away for bargains as far as blue side is concerned while red side will still have less money and will have to pay more for the items thats they would be getting cheaper.
fortunately we can now transfer items and inf between characters thus meaning that this isn't so much of a problem and it's on short range...long range it just means that red side has had their money massively inflated.
Though this is a good thing because if they didn't do this someone would just go red side buy all the stuff and sell it on blue side earning huge amounts of profits for a while. -
Statesman is 114
Sister Psych is 89
Numina is 70
Back Alley Brawler is 50
Positron is 48
Synapse is 44
Manticore is 41
Citadel is 9
As a comparison...
Martian Manhunter is supposedly 1000s of years old
Wonder Woman is supposedly 100s of years old
Superman is around 45
Batman is around 40
Barbara Gordon is 27
Dick Grayson is 25
Tim Drake is 18 -
Quote:no >.>So...I can bill Paragon Studios for my time then and get 2-3 Mutant packs for FREE!!!
GENIUS!!!
also f you had worked for that amount of time you'd be able to purchase 3 and have 7.50 left over depending on where you live... some places have a minimum wage of like 8.40 while others have it as low as 4.00 -

Quote:I think you are both wrong... it's in between both of your positions.Damn right, they're SHINY!
Actually, my favorite games are: The Silent Hill Series, the Legacy of Kain series, and my favorite TV show is Babylon 5.
Why? Story. BUT.
I enjoy the story for what it is, a story. A tale meant to both entertain and teach. If you get wrapped up in the minutiae and the details, you lose the bigger picture, and in my opinion, you kill the entertainment. The point of the story isn't when this happened or when that happened, or what size that starship actually is vs. what this other source says it is. The point of the story is to move people emotionally, and teach them general truths about reality and humanity.
This is why media are forms of art and entertainment, and not textbooks. -
Quote:Maria Jenkins WAS originally Maiden Justice...Web Arachnos or Freedom Phalanx and other sources stated it was Monica Richter and so they went back and edited Maria Jenkins' information.I don't know where I first heard it, but I want to say that originally "Madame Danger" was going to be Maiden Justice aka Statesman's wife.
Certainly her appearance in Unai's thread-- where she's such a well beloved figure that Azuria's spell can use that admiration to create an Eternal Flame-- tends to suggest a more public heroic career than her bio suggests. -
So now that the game doesn't freeze up... now I need to get my settings right... What's happening is every so often there is a brief freeze up, like in milliseconds, and then continues on. Obviously caused by my settings so... what should i tweak?

First time it happened to me it took 2 days to figure it out... since then I can solve it in 15 mins or less.
generally happens when you look at certain sites... you should probably smack your friend as the more you do that type of stuff the less efficiently your PC will run. -
tools > options > Connections > Lan Settings > make sure proxy is not checked.
Also checks and see if the browser is in offline mode...if it is that could be the problem too.
This happens generally when i get a malware program that blocks spybot, task manager, etc from coming up... If you can't access those, flip your PC off and then on... as soon as windows gets to the point programs are beginning to load, open up task manager and spybot. This works because you've opened up task manager before the malware program loads... look for a weird group of lettering program, end it, and then run spybot. That will fix that problem.
