Since they seem to be quoting Patrick Stewart... I have to guess that he was misinformed or got the wrong impression and the writer of the article put things together wrong...
There was NEVER as far as recorded a plan for another TNG movie. Spiner wanted to kill the character because the character had run it's course. Frakes didn't want to act anymore and generally doesn't and wanted to move on completely more or less into directing. These two along with the writer planned from the beginning to make Nemesis the last movie.
The reason DS9 and Voyager didn't get a movie, and the reason they killed off Enterprise (seriously, they purposely murdered that show in any way they could) is because the producers and studio felt that the franchise had fatigued...but only for a year or two >.> Smells like a ******** explanation to me. -
Quote:That's true that I doubt they actually paid attention but meh...or when they wrote that part about him joining the FBI academy back in the '80s (which is when i remember the reference from) no one bothered to check what the ACTUAL entrance requirements were. because you can infer he might've served with a firm, but i don't see where it's ever been spelled out.
The site stating the FBI requirements say that it's 3 years of work experience, but doesn't specify that it has to be in the field of entrance. This means that Bruce could probably qualify without working at a law firm. But, the fact that he does get into the FBI still means that he must have gotten a degree in one of the following fields
1. Accounting
2. Computer Science/Information Technology
3. Language
4. Law
5. Diversified
Since he was trying to keep a low profile I actually doubt it was Law and since it didn't really exist Comp Science is likely out... Bruce also says he's not to good with computers with Tim joins up.
That leaves Accounting, Language, and Diversified. While accounting would be natural he always feigns not being very good at business and this would look bad so that rules out Accounting. So Language or Diversified is most likely the degree path he followed. Language would be a natural thing for him and an easy thing to explain considering he is always traveling and it is likely that he'd have just picked it up without effort.
So yeah...I think your somewhat right.
If we say that Bruce tried HS and found it boring so figured a way around it and got a GED. Then he also did mail courses in various fields and got a 4 year degree in language. Then consider his job at Wayne Enterprises counted for the 3 years work.
He then stayed with it for most of 23 and 24. Went on his year journey at 24, came back at 25. Tried his hands at vigilantism...failed and then became batman. this preserves the 10 yr journey the 1 year journey, the not trying too hard identity, having been in the FBI, and having time to get all the schooling he requires to have done it....but only if we consider his journey to be not a journey but rather a "we're not in Gotham thus this qualifies as a journey" journey. -
Quote:Requirements for being an FBI Special Agent is 3 years experience in whatever area of entrance that got you in. There are a couple possibilities, such as he could have a CPA (accounting degree) and they could just view him being owner of Wayne Enterprises as experience.where did you get that Bruce was part of a law firm? youve been digging through a lot of the older issues of late, but that hasn't been a part of his origin since at least a little before Zero Hour/Knightfall AFAIK. As for the FBI, he attended the academy, but never actually became a full field agent. He left because they were more focused on 'law' and less on 'justice'. (ugh, i need to dig that one up, that came from one of those anniversary issues of Detective Comics, but it's been a looooong time since i read it)
As far as the journey that Bruce took. He started training at a young age and throughout High School and College it is known that he took many courses in many different schools. Supposedly he played stupid in many of his classes, but must have done just good enough to get at least one degree. He traveled around a lot during this period of time, as mentioned, and it is likely that he took advanced placement classes and tested out of a lot of his classes allowing him to finish HighSchool or College early.
At some point Bruce must have picked up 3 years experience or had his running of Wayne Enterprise looked at as experience, most likely not if they were focused on law...in which case it is likely that he worked for a law firm before the age of 23 (the minimum age requirement for a Special Agent)
I think that when they are leaving after Infinite Crisis Bruce mentions that the Journey they are going to take is the same journey he took before he became Batman and that it was indeed a 1 year journey. So his history looks something like this....
Age 50: assuming it's been a year Bruce Returns and forms Batman Inc./Wendy Harris becomes Proxy, Oracle's Apprentice
Age 49: Batman R.I.P. happens/Final Crisis/Dick becomes Batman III/Tim becomes Red Robin/Damian becomes Robin IV/Stephanie becomes Batgirl IV

>.> I was just gonna do up to 26 but meh whatever lol -
Well... That clinches it. Everyone is getting a mind wipe by the end of this series.
-
Also... Now that I am thinking about it. It might not be his. His great great, I think it's 2 greats, grandfather that had all the gothic stuff built in Gotham was a Judge so he must have got his law degree somewhere and we all know how Bruce is about keeping Wayne memorabilia
-
Not that hard to imagine as it is in current canon that Bruce was an FBI agent before going the Batman route which gives us a pretty clear timeline of what happened...
Multiple universities, finally getting his degree in Law at Yale by the time he was 20
Worked in some law firm or something like that for 3 years
Joined the FBI at 23/24. Decided it wasn't right for him
Left on a year long journey
Returned and Became batman at 25
Considering that Bruce was to have become a special Agent it always baffles me when he says stuff like he has to appear to be incompetent when it's a matter of record that he scored top marks in every FBI requirement...
But then you know Barbara got her Law degree and passed the Bar on the side via internet classes. -
Quote:I know that Dick will continue on being Batman which is completely wrong for what the characters would do given past actions.Hate to disapoint, but Dick and Damian will remain Batman and Robin after Bruce returns. Dick takes over as Gotham City's Batman while Bruce goes out to start Batman Inc. And Joker's still running around in Batman & Robin so I don't think he succeeded in killing him.
The character I hate the more I read about them is Dick Grayson and the fact of the matter he's handled worse than Wonder Woman to a degree...While WW just gets rebooted every few years Dick never gets rebooted, but it's like his past doesn't exist to any of the writers and they simply write him and about him as this guy who is supposed to be great when he's not. He's confused, he is more less out of his depth, he's far too emotional, and he's got a chip on his shoulder (and not a tasty chip either)... Not to mention he has tried to leave being a vigilante behind several times and the only reason he keeps coming back to it is cuz he can't do anything else... and the thing he seems to be good at he can't keep and it confuses him more.
And not to mention his supporting cast is far more entertaining and well written than he is. Capt. Rohrbach. Amygdala, Clancy, John Law, Tarantula. etc are all better characters than Dick Grayson.
Quite frankly, Dick Grayson, the character is not cut out to be Batman. The only reason he as a character could possibly hold himself as Batman is to not let Bruce down and that's not something that can sustain. The only reason he became Batman is because either the editors and writers don't care or know his history OR they figure the audience doesn't know or care for that history and think that only Dick can succeed Bruce as Batman if anyone.
As far as Dick killing Joker. Dick shot and killed Joker thinking that Joker had killed Tim. Batman revived Joker in a Lazarus pit to keep Dick from being charged with murder.
So Dick's history...
Accused of Murder, but cleared his name because he was framed
Technically murdered Joker, but wasn't charged due to Joker being imediately revived.
Let Blockbuster be murdered by tarantula, turned himself in, but had the charges dropped by Rohrbach.
Became a mobster for a short while.
So Basically he's gone over the edge twice and the only reason he hasn't felt the consequences is his superiors have got him off the hook. -
Up until issue 6 or 12 of Red Robin everyone believed Bruce was dead. After Tim found evidence they started a time search
If Bruce doesn't remove Dick as Batman I think there is something wrong with the people at DC and knowing their characters. Dick attempted to murder Joker, and succeeded... and failed to stop the murder of BlockBuster even though he could have easily.
The reason Bruce removed Jean Paul from Batman was due to his ruthlessness but more so that he let Abetior die.
Bruce should not let Dick be Batman and he gave orders to not be Batman in his last will and testament... probably thinking that Dick shouldn't be and Tim wasn't prepared yet. -
So...Bruce Wayne makes it back to the present this week.
I haven't read the latest issue, but it seems this is being made out to be a big event. So what are your thoughts? -
Quote:As I pointed out to my friend that while I know caloric intake is only one part of it it is a part that I can control more than anything else so it's good move to worry about caloric intake. Also I'm playing somewhat on a psychological level of if I have a mind set of I'm gonna finish that if I open it, checking the calories and making a note of it comparing it to where I should be is is a massive help.Another thing is dont get to hung up on what the caloric intake you should be eating is. Yes there is a healthly level of caloric intake, but that is based on a average humans height etc, plus assuming average activity which its likely if your severly over weight your not reaching.
The number of calories I checked with several calculators almost all that let you adjust height, current weight, goal weight, and activity levels, some even giving base levels. I checked for sedentary, with little or no exorcise. Based on that, if I do exorcise at all it's a plus over what i'm already doing food wise.
Basically, what I'm doing is what I need to do to lose weight at a steady pace. If I do extra on top of that I will lose more weight and be done sooner, but whether I do it or not has no bearing on whether I lose the weight at all. Kinda like how paying $15 a month I get access to CoH, if I pay $10 for a booster, well that's nice, but it isn't necessary. -
Rian, asked a few days ago in PMs and this is what I said... Instead of rewriting the whole thing I'm just posting exactly what I PMed him back...
I was gonna make a follow up post ^.^
I dunno whether it's helped yet as I don't have a scale yet.
i got one of those recombinant bike things you suggested (the pedals only one) and since I got it I'm trying to figure out where to use it because all the places I have to sit are too short and thus can't really do it.
I switched up my eating habits within what i can v.v I found that I can be fine with 1 fruit every 4 hours (or roughly 400 calories a day >.>), but that is unhealthy so I'm working on other stuff to eat to fill in those calories.
So after I failed in the first thing I was doing. I decided to figure out the number of cals I should be eating, which is just over 2700 average. Then I split that into 4 meals, 1 every 4 hours. and while I am not 100% on keeping to the number of cals per 4 hour block I am making sure to try to keep within the cal count for the day, keep my eating periods split up, and if I do eat over the 2700 i don't eat more than the weekly total. Which means even if I over eat one day I am fine overall.
After 2 weeks I just got used to keeping a running total in my head of the calories and such so I didn't write them down this last week, but I'm well below the goal.
While this is still not the healthiest thing possible it's better than how I was eating previously, probably.
I decided not to order the fruits veggies online as they wanted $30 for delivery and that is just insane. I do have afresh fruit place around here I remembered, but it's a pain to get there every week, so I'll likely only have fresh food only 2 weeks out of four.
This method lets me eat still what's easy to get ahold of, but keeps myself reigned in. Hopefully over time I can move more to healthier foods, but I can't garentee that so the best thing I can do is work within what I can.
Btw... with the recombinant bike, pedal thing... It has a calorie counter and over the course of 20 minutes (struggling and discomfortable and using my arms instead of legs due to not figuring it out how to make it comfy or without probs yet) it says I burned 100 cals, is there a length of time or amount of calories i should try to reach? 100 cals doesn't seem to be worth it since I could just not eat that amount...
Also >.> whoever writes those cal counts I hate. They should just write down a rounded hectocalorie and the amount of cals in the complete product. It would be a lot easier to keep track of as bigger numbers tend to throw people and the extra 0s tend to be worthless I've noticed. -
Quote:That is their goal, or at least was at one point. The question is what canon? and How closely?Ok, I asked about this earlier and got no response. I wasn't imahining having seen/ heard/ read somewhere that somehow the series would fall in line with comic cannon?
For this to all work...
Perry White must become editor of the Daily Planet
Lex Luthor must re-establish himself as the richest man in Metropolis
Chloe must disappear
Lois must return to Metropolis
Lana, Lois, Perry, Lex, Oliver, Arthur, Impulse, Cyborg, Manhunter, and a few others must have their memories tampered with...
and Clark must leave the Daily Planet and then return, noone remember him.
Oh and Kara has to be kicked off the planet >.> Basically all modern age heroes and villains have to be reset to a degree or our thinking about them has to be fudged...as in by "debuting" we mean that they reveal their existence as "real" to the public in some way and be given a name.
Of course that's just based on what I know of a mishmash of canon from Silver age, Modern age, and reading up on the stuff... so whatever...
Oh Superman must exist by the end of this season and Blue Beetle as seen in the demo, must not as that Blue Beetle is from Infinite Crisis and didn't debut for a long time >.> -
The writers of the DC comics were going to intro Chloe into DCU canon, but something happened and then they didn't so as for now she is non-canon...however they are trying to make things sync up which means that Chloe has to vanish or die by the end of this season.
-
So... if we take this at face value we are left to assume that Chloe joined Checkmate, which explains why she isn't in the comics...because she is...just not as Chloe Sullivan, but rather a member of Checkmate who takes on a new Id.
-
I agree with the whole "saying it's better than heroes" thing, and the main reason I agree with that is because the show is a different style of show.
Why people are saying it's better than heroes is less to do with the flashiness and more to do with most of the people saying these things wanting to see X event in heroes so much that when they get the flashiness right off the bat with this show it makes them happy and thus as it is right now people think it's a better show.
I personally like both. I think that everyone that is saying that No Ordinary Family is better should think about what they like in a show and then rewatch both episode ones from both series and ask is one really better than the other. I don't think you can say that just from that. Both shows had very good first episodes for what they were going for.
As far as the heavy handed messages... which crosses the suspension of belief line ^.^... those type things set off a twinge of annoyance in me, but as long as they are going somewhere with them it doesn't usually bother me. The virgin thing went somewhere. I have read manga where I am suddenly being preached at for 2 or 3 pages and it doesn't fit the story. Or look at the ending of Evangelion... the original ending... It's just a bunch of bad pseudo philosophy while on an acid trip that has nothing to do with the story. -
Quote:If you look, he is wearing a blue shirt underneath. Now if you consider that a jacket can be worn as a cape >.> He's now just missing the yellow ^.^I wonder who he got to make that jacket and how he explained his need for it.
Also, this is his attempt, I suppose, to "come out of the shadows" a bit and have a bit of colour. So why choose such a dark red? I would have liked a blue coat with a red symbol, something that's just a step away from his real suit. I mean, he's already seen (and seemed to like) the Superman suit, so why not move a little closer to that? -
Well we've invented a few new things since then like solar sails, ion drives, and other things that if you were to combine it would allow us to reach higher speeds than with just the nuclear explosion drive ideal. Because the removal of a lot of friction you can just continue to add thrust and the ship will go faster. It's just a matter of energy needed to move the weight of the energy. Solar sails would allow us to put the energy outside of the ship's weight and thus allow us to move faster than we could with just nuke drive

Quote:People keep forgetting what "galactic scales" means.
"About to die" for a star is measured in the millions of years.Quote:Your right about that the planets are different, turns out there are multiple rocky planets oribting the star Gliese 581. And I did read that red dwarfs live in the trillions of years so IDK about that part. I did try to find another credible source that said Gliese 581 was dying but have yet to but if I do I'll post a link.
What I think happened is the article was hastily written and thy didn't check their sources and confused Red Giant, which has a few million year lifespan, with Red Dwarf, which has 10 trillion plus year lifespan.
Given that this info is easy to find and easily checkable I wouldn't put the article in the sphere of credibility and denotes that even if there is some accurate statements in there the understanding of the subject and the representation is off so lowers over all value of the article in general. -
Quote:Red Dwarf Stars have an estimated life span in the trillions of years...what do you mean? the only thing they say about the red dwarf is that they are cooler then our type of star which is true and that it's about to die which also may true for all we know.
Human lifespan is to Sol's lifespan as Sol's life is to Gliese 581's lifespan
The cooler the star the longer the estimated lifespan.
The planet in that article is Gliese 581 c. The planet in question is Gliese 581 g.
We need better star and planet names >.> -
Quote:A quick glean of that article shows 2 things. They didn't do their research on what a red dwarf star is and they aren't talking about the same planet.http://www.merinews.com/article/glie...s/125008.shtml
A much better article on it I think. Directly from the article for those people that thinks living there is even a distinct possiblity -
Quote:v.v Do have any idea how they arrived at the conclusion scientists did? It's not like they just said oooh it's in this region and thus it is likely habitable! It's almost like they use facts and proven methods to get information and then talk down to the common folk who don't know anything. It sounds like you just say stuff most of the time, without actually saying anything.
All that estimating is just best guessing. They may come close, they may be way off. As someone already mentioned, the planet could have an atmosphere that makes it warmer through green house effect. It may have no atmosphere at all. This article goes out of the way to not mention much, meaning there probably isn't enough information to go on. -
The problem with Heroes is that...
Season 1 they planned these character for this season so everything was more or less resolved at the end of season one
Season 2 they were forced to continue with characters they had no intention of continuing with
Season 3 the writers were gutted and I believe this was the strike year.
Season 4 they tried to recover and made a good attempt. The last episodes' ending spot was awesome, and while I wish I could see more of those characters, the show premise was resolved when they went public. -
Imagine a Stargate/Smallville Crossover...
Clark: Don't I know you?
Daniel: No?
Clark: Strange I think I know you from somewhere...
Carter: Hey Clark...
Clark: Daniel!
Carter: Who? -
umm
It sounds like you just don't understand what it said.
Habitable means that if a human were to be dropped there without some super survival suit they wouldn't die from the lack of oxygen, water, or temperatures that are too low or too high.
Scientists can determine a large number of things about a planet/star without "seeing" it through spectroscopic analysis. Like we can estimate a planets temperature from the distance from the star + analysis from the planet's reflection of light + plus the star's light itself. It's a fairly simple process to figure this stuff out.
