i actually don't think people are think on the proper scale with this...

The problem with Solar cells before is cost prohibitive and structure prohibitive.
Today there is a whole procedures of manufacturing and installing them. These anyone could theoretically plaster them on your house and hook them up like a standard generator. The cheapness of the production cost also allows the poorest people to afford it too in various amounts AND considering that you can fold it 1000 times and not get any lose in performance it presumes that these things are somewhat transluscent which means you can layer so someone could layer their roof with 1 layer and get that benefit OR 1000 and get that benefit.

Also the fact that they are so easy to apply and durable apparently they could be thrown around your yard and on things easily. Further more the lightness of this product also helps with electric cars that are weight prohibitive...

So you could presumably you could plaster this stuff all over every where from machines to building to clothes and combine that with wireless electricity technology and you could in theory create a whole new electrical infractructure network that is 100% clean.

Which interesting enough could be catastrophic... Temperature is affected by all the smog we produce in cooling way... and as such the rapid greening effect this could cause could be just as bad as not going green at all.

So now we have a balance to strike between going green and not... where as previously we just had to go 100% green or else!

I'm watching the pilot right now. So far it's a decent show.

The parts I don't like is the idea that synethstesia is some sort of super power and i don't like that they keep showing the brain of the leader guy. We saw it the first time, knock it off.

That they are jumping right into it is a good way to do things. I also like that most of the powers they used don't require a lot of CGI to do so that should keep costs down which should keep it alive longer.

Also I got to point out that I wasn't going to watch it when I read the description on the AT&T uverse service so someone did a horrible write up and they need to get a better person summarizing this stuff because I'm the type of person that would give this show a chance without much convincing and they had lost me until i saw a sentence somewhere about what it really was about.
  4. So I decided to write on taking the "You're the last person in the world. Then there is a know on the door..." not as the beginning sentence but as the general concept.... this is obviously not a complete tale, but I can't think of where to go from here at the moment... well no here not sci-fi-ish at least so I stopped for now and I'm gonna let my brain rest for a bit. This is the longest piece of anything I've written in a while and it is around 1700 words and took about 2.5 hours to write. I'll probably write more later, but once today is over I think I'd prefer moving to a different topic than keep going with this even if it hasn't ended yet.

Anyways... Here's what I wrote. Tell me what you think...

I'm the last man on Earth, or at leastI believe I am. I haven't checked the whole world obviously, buteverywhere I looked there wasn't a trace of another person. I don'tknow how it happened. Like a lot of my life, it happened while I wasasleep. At first, I didn't notice anything. The world was automated,so the I didn't really notice that no one replied to me on thevarious forums I visit. I just figured it was one of the low pointsthat ever forum goes through from time to time. And of course the TVstations kept broadcasting new stuff for a few days, but once nothingnew was broadcasting it hit me that I hadn't heard from anyone in aweek and I decided to go take a look around.

There was nothing out there, but aplethora of survival horror and documentaries about the world aftermankind had prepared me to expect some great disaster. Those firstoutings I had brought a sword or two with me, looked for guns andammo, grabbed food from the local markets, but I found nothing reallyout there all too dangerous. My first instinct was to stay within thecity. I was safe there. No reason to leave what seemed to beperfectly safe place. That thought lasted only a few moments asthoughts stemming from those documentaries reminded me that theelectricity, water, and food supplies were likely to run outeventually out soon. They may have already shut down and there was noway that I could get gas indefinitely for cars. It was made starklyclear that I had to find some place that could sustain itself for aslong as I needed, no matter how futile it might seem.

I gathered up every kinda of seed Icould find, packed up my belongings and left the city I was born andraised in for an area that likely was filled with solar powered. Thatwould, at least for as long as i could survive, provide me withentertainment. Once I found and settled down in a nice house with apre-made garden and solar panels installed I connected as manycomputers as I could find to the internet, wrote a script, and hadthem download as much information about how to construct and repairthe various things I would need. There was no telling how long thenetwork would last so the important stuff came first, but that didn'tmean I couldn't download some frivolous things as well.

You might think that the lack ofcontact with other humans and the futility of everything would keepme from being happy or content, but to be honest, things reallydidn't change all that much, and the lack of other people anddistractions gave me time to read, watch, and play a lot of the mediathat I had wanted to, but other things kept me from doing so. It alsoprovided me time to create all the various works that I had wanted tocreate. Unfortunately, no one was there to share with, but that wasno reason to not do it. Of course, with all this time and the workthat was needed to maintain my lttle place I got in shape, bettershape than I had ever been. I guess if you consider that I willprobably live longer because of this it's an odd sort of blessing.

Things went well for years, a timethat I'd surely have lost track of if not for the computers that keptthe time. I was comfortable in my new life. It didn't bother me thatthere was no one to share it with and the fact of the matter was, even if there was someone else remaining in the world we likelywouldn't be able to communicate given that they'd come from anotherpart of the world. I know this a bit wrong, and perhaps it is thefirst signs that I'm going insane, but I have to say, the world is apretty perfect place form me now, given the situation. I'm contentwith my world. Alone filled with knowledge and time to play with. Andthen, there was a knock on the door.

I knew there was probably no onethere. It's not like this the first time this has happened. A knockon the door. You'd be surprised how often that happens. There arelots of things that create a similar noise or hit the door as timegoes on. You get used to it after a while, the rush and theexcitement that comes with the thought that there might be someonethere that I could share... everything with. Those aren't the onlythoughts though, there is always the fear that who ever it is isn'tso in love with the idea of sharing this world. It would be fittingthat the human race so defined by war would end when given the wholeworld to divide among two people they would end up killing each otherand lose it all. The hopes and the fears in the end didn't matterthough.

The trained behavior of answering thedoor every time I heard a knock took a while to get over, but I didget over it eventually. Behavior changes after so many times of noone being there and logically, the reality of the matter is, in thisworld no one would knock on a door. They'd just enter and search forany thing that could be useful to them. They'd take what they wantedlike I did when this all began. There was also the risk that, likeme, they'd be carrying weapons, be on edge, and a potentially greatthing could turn to disaster rapidly. i wouldn't be shocked. Itwouldn't be a big surprise that it ended in such a way, but by thispoint I have studied up on the history of man and likely become themost studied on the subject of mankind. It's what we do... did. Wesought to improve our own lives while destroying the worlds of thosearound us. Some of us rose above that. Not many, and when they didthey were often stopped before long.

The knock on the door came again. Ihadn't checked before. No point. There wasn't going to be anythingthere. I've looked thousands of times in the past. Nothing was everthere. Why waste my time answering a knock now? But then camesomething I was not expecting, a voice.

    "Hello? Anyone there?"

I shot out of my seat, out of my dazeof thoughts about the consequences of what this might mean to me andthe future of mankind. I didn't care. I wanted to see another livingface. A face that wasn't an echo from the past. Hurriedly, I ran tothe door, tripping over a few things that lay between me and thedoor. Why keep a clean house all the time when no one else was thereto tell you how much of a slob you are. You'd think with the rush Iwas in to get to the door I would have just opened it, but those oldbehavior came back. The nervousness of meeting someone that couldchange your life and whether or not you'd make a good impression camerushing back. I stood there at the door, took a deep breath, composedmyself, and turned the handle.

The door cracked open as I pulled itslowly, the fresh air blew in. The brightness of the light made meclose my eyes briefly, but then my eyes adjusted and there before mewas a young half naked woman. I must be dreaming. No, not that typeof dream. I'd taken to not wearing many clothes myself over theyears. I had to be careful about what I powered as over exerting thesolar panels could damage them and then I'd have no power so the airconditioning almost never came on. It seems like she had come to thesame conclusion, that the less clothes in the heat, the better. Shehad a big smile on her face and to me it was brighter than the sun inthe sky.

I stumbled upon my words as I invitedher in, kicking aside the small messes that were in the way beforegoing to grab some nice cold, pure water. I didn't know whathardships she had had to deal with in the last few years, but I hadalways figured that the if there were others alive out there thatthey likely had a harder time getting by. Not because of mymechanical expertise or my physical readiness. Had someone asked meif I was going to able to survive or be in such luxary as the worldfalls apart around me I'd have said I'd be among the first to die.The comfort that I now lived in came not from any physical readinessas all the supplies I needed were pretty easily accessible when Ididn't have to compete with others. It was the fact that I knew whereto look and what to look for that allowed me to sustain myselfeasily.

As I presented the pure water to herin a clean cup the young woman seemed to be rather surprised. Shedidn't seem to be scared, but she also didn't seem to be open. Sheseemed to be assessing the situation, assessing what I might do.That's not all that unexpected. I don't know who she is, where shecame from, or what she wants from me. It didn't escape me that shebeing here also meant that there will be hope for humanity for a fewmore years, but I don't think that would be a wise thing to bring upat the moment. I don't want to scare her. I don't want to make herthink that I have ill intentions. Not that it really matters. I'm bigand strong enough to do whatever I wanted with her, but is thatsomething I could live with? Is it something that the world thatmight be reborn from those actions could live with? perhaps aftermany generations and when history becomes mythology it may, but thenthe world may never forget. I sat down across from her, my eyesremain transfixed. I think we were both waiting for the other to makethe first move. It was sort of like being on a first date, neitherperson knowing what the others' reactions might be and not wanting toscare them off.

In particular, you seem to be objecting to the fact that DC will be cherry picking which parts of history are still valid in their creation of this New DC Universe. I put forth to you that DC did this with Crisis, Zero Hour, and Infinite Crisis. Why was it acceptable for DC to cherry pick then, but not now?
    No
Crisis on Infinite Earths = Written to tell fans that yes we know having 200000 different canons is a bit confusing so we are going to make 1 canon. This made 1 past to figure out what happened and made it so there was only 1 story you needed to know, simplifying the DCU's backstory, but it did NOT touch current comics. Current comics simply continued to exist, but Everything past crisis the rule was established that nothing that happened before this point is known canon unless it is said or shown in some way in current books.

Zero Hour = When this was written several problems cropped up when they slammed all the stories together and there were still no way to know which future was the canon future. This fixed those few minor back stories and created a 1 future canon. Again, current comics simply continued on. They weren't changed in any way.

Infinite Crisis + 52 = This simply recreated the Else Worlds but limited them. This is for people that loved the stories of the golden age or Batman Beyond or some other else world to have those stories as well as have the main canon. This essentially made those thousands of continuities into 52 individual continuities with 52 histories and futures. Again, current comics weren't changed at all.

Final Crisis = If i remember right... had no impact on canon whatsoever

Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne = Also had no impact on canon whatsoever.

You ask what is different about these? Simplification, explanation, no impact on current comics.

Flashpoint doesn't explain anything, it doesn't simplify anything, and it completely changes all current comics.

ie. It's the complete opposite of every major "reboot" DC has ever done.

That sounds completely ridiculous to me. You never picked up a comic to figure out what was going on so you never knew what was going on so you never picked up a comic... etc It's a ******** loop.

Any person that has a slight interest in comics know they can go online read an article or two and figure out the history of the character or find out the trades you should read to find out the history...

or there is this saying that has been going on for a long time now... "Every issue could be someone's first issue" so every issue contains a recap in some way with most books that informs you enough to enjoy what's going on.

As well as that but having several different Supermans spread across different Dimensional incarnates just makes it difficult to even know what I'm getting into.
    Umm no

So for me, this reboot is hopefully going to give me an entry into DC, obviously they cant keep doing this all the time to get new entries, but with digitial distribution, back issueing becomes less of an... issue...
No it doesn't. You have even less of a clue whats happening because majhor story lines are now in flux so now, where as you could go to wiki and find out what was going on, you now can't because noone knows and they aren't rebuilding from the ground up like say Ultimate Marvel. They're just doing what we all did with our toys when we were younger... ripping em apart and smashing it together and entertaining themselves, but noone watching has a clue whats going on.

    Quote:
Now as an avid hater of batman that rules him out for the issue to follow, I'm a big fan of Magic as an origin, but there doesn't seem to be much of that going around, Zatanna or Raven appearing as mainline heroes would probably cement a set for me.
Let's not discuss hating a character you've not read about and the movies portray far too 1 dimensionally, even the best animated and movie incarnations.

Let's discuss the you like magic characters and just said you'd probably buy comics where Zatana is the star...

Zatana has her own comic... it is being erased by this
Zatana was supposed to play a major role in Batman: The Dark Knight which has now been scrapped pretty much

And with this relaunch which they called it but are now calling it a reboot they are, as far as I can tell, deleting 2 of my favorite characters... Black Alice and Misfit which both are magic based.

Which brings up another point... I would consider Tim Drake, Stephenie Brown, Cassandra Cain, Black Alice, and Misfit as if not the best characters they have up in the top 10 or 20. They are under used and under utilized and now with this reboot as far as we know 4 out of those 5 are pretty much deleted. And we haven't brought up others on that list like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Kyle Rayner, Superboy, Barbara Gordon, Bart Allen, Cassandra Sandsmark, Selina Kyle, Renee Montoya, Jim Gordon, Joker, Lois Lane, and Huntress.

I can guarantee half of those 20 are being deleted or so completely rewritten that they might as well be. At least 3/4 of that list are going to have large swathes of their history and characters that make them so good removed or bastardized and ALL of them are likely to suffer in some way, from bad character costume redesigns to bad interpretations of those characters to just out and out deletion to so far from what they are they might as well have been deleted.

I started collecting X-Men comics in the mid to late eighties. I missed out on a couple of the really famous stories and had no idea of the background of a lot of the charactes.

    Never bothered me.

I branched out into other Marvel books mainly based on the cover of the comic or the look of the character. I had even less knowledge about them than I did the X-Men.

    Never bothered me.
Yes, the most continuity heavy characters only have 2-400 issues to read to get completely caught up... which is 10 days for several hours of reading at most and that flies by in those cases.... most characters, even the vaunted GL which contains most of the confusing universe spanning mythos of the DCU can be completely read up within about 50 issues.

The thing is a lot of those books for DC evolve the character and your missing out on less needed but great stories in between when you do that, but those tell you everything you need to know about the character's history.

I'd never read 'No Man's Land' or 'The Killing Joke' or much of anything else.

None of those were supposed to be permanent changes save for Dick becoming Batman which was a step back for the char in terms of personal growth but in terms of being handled properly and such it was a step up. The only reason it is being reverted now is because of this "relaunch" and non-readers complaining about things they know nothing about.

Seriously, the other day I had an argument over Dick Grayson not being the one killed by joker v.v

I really don't see how Gail Simone or Grant Morrison would really want to do this. They just reintroduced characters and made all the Bat family books that much more deeper and now to have it all washed away by non-reader, non-fans, and idiot editors. If I were in their position I'd be ticked and likely quit.

  12. The problem isn't so much that they are changing things, as that's basically what happens every month, but rather the why and the how that pisses me off.

I like Batman. Let me correct myself. I like modern age Batman. I like the modern age, as go I think most people... or at least the majority of people like the majority of the modern age.

And I don't have a problem with the modern age coming to an end or them rebooting. What I have a problem with is that they are doing it stupidly and not all that well from what I can tell and they aren't ending the stories so much as just not writing them any more because they don't seem to be able to figure out how to any more for a few characters or some idiot doesn't want to write anything they didn't create from the ground up.

If read Batman after this relaunch it is not the character I like. It is not the character that I wanted to support by getting this book. There is no attachment because this isn't the same character and I don't care to read what happens to that new character that has the same name.

Maybe I will like these new characters, but I don't see why I would. They're bastardizations of the characters I like with incomplete histories so every time I read them I will be thinking this character sucks bring back my character or that rocks, that would have worked well with my character.

I think that if they really wanted to do something like this they should have canceled a lot of the worse books, streamlining the ones they already have, and then launch an Ultimate line up that has Batman at it's center rather than Superman. I never really did get how Superman is all hat inspirational... He's got a lot of powers, that's not something that makes me go "If he can do it I can too," but Batman, having people say that about him, that makes sense. I'd also kill a number of Batman books, as much as I love them...please stop.

OH and the reason you don't hear much about when they did it to Wonder Woman 50 times is because it's happened so many times and noone cares and those who do don't stand out enough because there is 60 other titles... it's kinda like the whole, when they did it to george you were silent, when they did it to judie you were silent, now that it's happening to you want me to help you? Not going to happen.

Where do I fall in that equation... depends on the day, how big the steps are, and whether i care to lift my feet up or not... Sometimes I fall to the left of it, sometimes to the right of it, sometimes in the center, and sometimes I hope right over it and laugh.

So could you guys post some ideas/topics to write about... It can be mundane or fantastic... a single word or a sentence or two... I'll work from anything in the list.

No. The presentation, the background, and many aspects are well done. It's not the concept. The little tweaks are two the presentation. The player gets to know too much about Sephiroth and see too much of him. Because of this the fear factor that makes him an awesome villain is crippled a bit.

It's kinda like Darth Vader. He's considered one of the best villains of all time, but even he, in the eyes of all the fan boys, goes from the 100% bad *** character to an 80 or 90% bad *** character due to the ep1-3 trilogy.

There are things that can mess a character up. It just so happens that the medium sephiroth is in isn't so good with story telling and presentation yet. If you were to ask me who were the best villains of the 1920s from a film I think we would have a hard time listing many as all time greats, not because the character is a bad villain, or less so than modern characters, but rather because the medium wasn't developed enough to present them right.

Also, considering how stupid the average person is and how little they know about most things though still hold an opinion about it and the shear number of people that like to troll others and the shear number of people that simply don't like me that I have accumulated over the years and just like saying I am wrong even when I'm not, that type of argument is beyond fallacious and sound like the pleas of a person who can't argue with anything more than denial.

You have just defined the very basics of a filler episode.

There was nothing like that in Farscape, so clearly you are talking about a completely different show.
There was quite a bit from what I remember. I'm not going to rewatch it to list it off. I don't commit these things to memory you know, but from what I remember there are large character changes. They aren't gradual and a lot of times they change from episode to episode.

Also I feel you are definitely blind to these things as they happen in every series to varying amounts. To say that there was none shows that you are blind to it, but that's ok.

As others have pointed out, other characters in the game were more developed and would have worked better as villains.
Sephiroth is like the shark in Jaws save for not done as well due to limited technology, he medium, or simply not creative enough. If you look at him from the way he was introduced and such if you tweaked it just right it would have made him so much better. If games were taken as a more artistic medium the tweaks I would suggest would have been made most likely and as such when I compare and ask if this was a great villain or not I give him the benefit of the doubt.

As a game boss though, to me he was a massive disappointment. Largely due to the fact that he is built up as this highly skilled, highly powerful, insane dude that doesn't care about you and can take you over at any time he wants and he goes down sooooooo easily. The Mechanics behind that fight, the gameplay itself, make him hurts him.

So in my opinion the flaws of the character come from the medium and not from the character itself. The character is genius evil touching on fears of the unknown, fear of yourself, coming to grips with reality, the betrayal of self, intimidation fear, and a number of others all mixed into this one character in a package that doesn't clash with itself... If we were to give this character to a writer and took it out of the medium of games he'd likely be classed as one of the top villains of all time in film, comics, or books, because like i said, those tweak that would be made to the story would be innate in those mediums with most good writers/directors/artists...

You are not reading what I said right.

Filler is not what makes it have those qualities which which is what you are arguing. I'm saying that there are a lot of bad characterization and things that were used as filler that didn't actually work within what they were doing.

The plot points are all spot on, but just because it didn't matter to the overall plot, they took it as a license to just throw anything at the wall whether it clashed with what was going on or the characters or not.

Filler in the context that I am talking about are not "filler episodes" which is what you are talking about, but Filller as in this progresses nothing at all and isn't needed, but we have it because it makes it seem likes we're smart, have a more vibrant universe, or need to make this longer even though it's not actual content. Granted filler episodes are part of this, but they exit for a reason in terms of production and are excused in my book as not filler in the sense that I'm talking.

as a point of reference... those stupid numbers that everyone talks about when they talk about lost as if they ever meant anything. That's filler.
  22. I did not say filler.

By I think the 3rd season most of the characters were completely different characters that never experienced growth but rather they just changed without explanation.

There was even characters that were wastes of time, joining the crew and then randomly leaving, or just popped in because suddenly they needed them for some plot point and then they were never talked about.

The show is very schizophrenic to say the least, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good.

Also, there were story lines in X-Files? As far as I know it was a crime drama with aliens more or less... It's pretty hard to meander when you don't have an actual story you're trying to tell... it's like saying that the Twilight zone meanders because every show is a different story.

As a matter of fact, it was even stated that each of the major arcs had been roughly planned out before most of the show. Hell, you remember the Peacekeeper Wars miniseries? If Syfylis hadn't cancelled the show before its fifth season, that was going to be one of its two major arcs, thus all the lead in from the fourth season with the Scarrans rattling their sabers.

The other major fifth season arc was going to be the long-awaited Chiana-centric storyline concerning the Nebari government's evil venereal disease plot that would frell up half the galaxy and the resistance that her brother was in.

As for the person who said it "went off the rails" in later seasons, someone clearly needs to watch the show again and consider all the wormhole plots and also pay special attention to the 4th season episode where they go to Earth. Both the wormhole stuff and the need to find Earth again had been omnipresent themes throughout the show since EPISODE 1!!
Just because it has over arching storylines doesn't mean it didn't just make a bunch of stuff up randomly to progress through those plotlines or as filler or that it had good writing.

Also since you said you watched it in your 20s, you are now in your 30s. That gives you a different perspective than me and accept different levels of crap than I do. Seriously I've sat and watched shows and movies from different eras for hours on end and if you sit in a room with me and play those shows more than likely you will get hours of me ranting about every single issue which are plentiful. I've seriously gotten sore throats after watching shows like "Emergency" because there is so much wrong with every aspect of it I just need to point it out and if I didn't rant about it I wouldn't be able to watch it because other wise it just is baaaaad. The thing is shows from those past eras are considered great by various people and they really wouldn't point out any of those problems because they are blind to them. And usually shows that came out when you were age 10-30 you'll be blind to a lot of their problems because your mind tells you, this is how it is normally, and it doesn't register it as a problem...in fact you start seeing newer stuff as being worse because of it.

Sure, there are some shows that hold up over time, or we're able to look past the nostalgia, but generally not so much.

And don't get me started on the "It could have been great" shows that are considered "great" like Firefly v.v

Dunno anything about Marvel Odin, but Mythology odin isn't a blacksmith or even remotely able to create such items through enchantment or otherwise. Mjolnir and almost all the Norse pantheon weapons come from dwarves if I remember right.
