Specific iteration. Excalibur from Western Mythology is different from Excalibur from Fate: Stay Night

As pointed out you can skip/pass on categories you can't think of something for... but there are lists of legendary swords out there. So you should be able to come up with something with a little searching. Or you could just look at the list game swords out there most of the names for the rpg swords come from historical(mythological) weapons. Such as murasame, masamune, caladbolg, excalibur, etc all used in a ton of games, all historical.

Remember this is a battle between swords, not teams of swords so there really isn't need to have all 4 listed it's just a way to get as many as possible ^.^
  2. The problem with the Star Wars/Trek debate is that the Star Wars geeks rely on non-primary sources which pretty much go "Do we have shields? Only about a gajillion! What about weapon power? A Trillion times the number that Star Trek uses!" and when you start doing that it becomes pointless...

Another problem is that it is never stated what generation they are fighting. Kirk's generation would definitely lose, TNG would likely hold a stalemate for a while then the federation would win, 26th Century federation would decimate Star Wars technology and 27th and beyond century federation would likely view the Star Wars civ as such a non-threat they'd likely just never react.

As far as strategy for TNG era...I think it would be a stalemate for a long period of time but ultimately TNG Star Trek would win. Sure the empire would take over planets but the federation would be able to easily defeat the ground forces while the space forces likely the only challenge to most fed ships would be the bigger ships and because they can warp and attack and do so instantly the big ships would have to constantly deploy and call back then chase after them... eventually the fighters would be exhausted as they'd be taken out slowly over the many engagements. Also the smaller big ships would likely be taken out fairly easily and with the Federation they disable not destroy so it is likely they'd disable an empire ship with hyperdrive and back engineer them and then pass the schematics onto all their ships which would then figure it out and work up a way to fit them into all Federation ships... so the speed and number advantage would be gone shortly after arrival.

If the empire was much of a threat after that point TNG could employ teleportation technology, phaseshift technology, chronal technology, stealth technology, and limited time travel technology... All of which ignores superior "power" and shielding for the most part. We don't see or hear SW using those technology and as pointed out SW is fairly stagnant so it is unlikely they have a defense against those techs and couldn't develop them.

Space-faring cultures and civilizations like the Federation would become entangled in wars over these resources, but using up the resource as they go. Eventually, there's not enough, and these civilizations can't keep up with warp travel on a large scale. Civilizations become protectionist, holding onto a few systems at most.

Fast forward a few generations, and the Federation finds a new way to travel at high warp speeds. They go back out into the galaxy to find it drastically changed. The Bajorans, with their solar sail technologies, now rule large portions of the galaxy, while the Romulans, Klingons, Cardassians, etc., are struggling to survive. Other new cultures have taken over whole sectors of space and function much like the Federation once did. How would the Federation handle these new cultures? Would the Federation share their technology with old enemies if it meant protecting themselves against the new? How have technologies advanced outside of the Federation "bubble?"

Sure, you might get into some trouble since you'd still have the Borg around, who can travel in other ways, but if they are in a similar position, they might focus on species who have acquired other means of transportation and assimilate them, or something like that.

But, I figure this would allow for some new ship designs, new cultural interconnections and conflicts, as well as give us a series where the Federation is only a minor player in the galaxy.
Dilithium/rilithium is a rare element that allows for the control of the matter/anit-matter mixture by way of allowing some anti-matter pass through, but not all. This a unique property as far as we know.

We also know that it can b synthesized and the crystals are recycled so that the crystal almost never need replacement.

Further even if all the dilithium/trilithium was in really short supply it's almost gaurenteed that there are other elements that do the same thing and there are already other well known warp drive engines and non-warp drive AND even if they couldn't get hold of that with their technology and ability to mess with force fields they don't actually need the dilithium/trilithium.
  5. Like I was saying before I was so rudely distracted and went away >.>

Comedy is a broad range of categories from shows about nothing to snarky commentary about everything under the sun. Some are slapstick while others parody and others are just situation comedies. It's impossible to give a fair list of "comedy series" when there are that vany categories and variances...especially when you throw in "6 decades" of comedy where on the early end you pretty much are limited to what you can say to today's end and you can say almost anything. Even within a single category of "stand-up" you still have various types within that.

I would never put a number of those shows on the same list simply because there re too many factors where besides they are meant to make you laugh they have nothing remotely in common.

Also the fact that Animaniacs isn't on a list at all of all time great comedy series and noone else mentioned it yet is just shameful >.>
  6. Some people, ignorant people, got wind of the rumor he might be gay also and was like "why are they putting all the minorities in one characters" as if it wasn't an ignorant thing to say and gay black/mexicans don't need a role model.
  7. Teen Titans #100 came out this week and it's absolute garbage.

    SPOILERs

They out right kill the Superboy clones and then throw Prime onto the source wall and then say it's like hell for prime.... wtf. That is completely our of character and instead of a meh like other titles were this was out right offensive to the characters and the previous creators. Oh, and the tower should have been destroyed
  8. having such a broad range shows makes the list less than a good list.

I can imagine quite a few people being put off if the race of the captain is any too different from a Human. Trill would be a good bet. Betazoid also. Bajoran... eh, iffy on that cause Major Kira is the main representation we've had for Bajorans and a surprising number of people didn't like her.

I wouldn't expect any race where considerable makeup is involved, the less human they look, the less people will identify with them and you need the audience to be able to relate to them, cause really everyone wants to be the Captain.
that's fixed by having a series about the race that ruled the galaxy before human space generation... they look like humans.
  10. Well we just got it announced there is a cannon casualty...

Teens Titans and Young Justice aren't cannon because Teen Titans #1 will be the first meeting of those characters and that group apparently.

    The Sword draft!

So...since there is such a debate about what are the top 10 geek swords... Let's do a draft...

Sign ups will be open till aug 30th or until it looks like no more...

after we're ready to start drafting we will make 2 passes over people.
A list will be randomly generated...
people will select 1 historical sword and 1 fictional sword (you can pass on any category you wish)
We will then go in reverse order and select the other 2 types

    Western Historical Sword
    Eastern Historical Sword
    Anime + Games Fictional Sword
    Novels + D&D + Western Fictional Sword

The category sword will go against it's categories' swords in brackets with the best fictional sword going against the best historical sword.

But yes, a terrible, terrible movie overall.
That's too unrealistic for Nolan's Catwoman!
  13. Another interesting take would be if instead of the future they told stories about the galactic power that ruled from the last generation of space fairing species.

It was easily one of the worst things Voyager did (the worst being Neelix).
    Wtf are you talking about?

Time being messed up and policed by 31st century people can ONLY police event that take place AFTER the point at which the originator of the temporal problem occurred. Time travel that originate BEFORE the 31st century is not handled by the temporal police because to them those time alterations were meant to and had to happen from their perspective.

The only events that the temporal police have to account for are actions taken by beings that traveled backwards in time after their establishment. In this way no other time travel story has to be accounted for.
  15. Star Trek was never burned out before. Enterprise failed and is looked back negatively on because #1 it never got to finish it's overarching story and it was a series that planned for a several year run and then got told you got 3 halfway through the 3rd season and #2 it was moved around so much that it could never get an audience, either noone could find or when they could it was on repeats or it was moving again the following week.

There are 3 places that I think could really make another Star Trek a great show...
#1. 31st century. Instead of focusing all the writing on one cast and crew and ship and time with this the writers could get a small main cast which would keep costs down and then they could travel to other time periods in the star Trek Timeline which would allow them to go back to any of the previous show's time periods and ships.

#2. The point where Humans are exploring alternate dimensions... this would let them trek through new stars and meet new species which is really cool

#3. Humans vs Q in the distant future it is always assumed that humans will reach Q level along with several other races Q messing with humans seems an attempt to mess with this future. This would a hard thing to write well but it would be fun ^.^
  16. Camera technology has to improve more still... for just about any application that you guys are thinking of. To make it work right you need to have cameras implanted or stationed near the lens otherwise you can't project the image properly.
  17. The cool part of the idea is it happening on present day earth...
  18. I just had an idea...

In the original trilogy it starts out

"A long time ago in a galaxy far far away..."

In the prequel trilogy ETs are shown

So what if there was a movie/comic/show where they play on that idea... Star Wars is taken as someone telling the story to someone on earth that knows the story of this ancient past... This guy takes on a apprentice to pass on this tradition for some reason and just at that time Sith start showing up...

    I think it'd be cool ^.^

Also since I don't like reading books I've decided to listen to audio books, which is pretty much the same thing... Right now I'm on chapter 56 of "Thus spoke Zarathustra" and will be done with that by tonight...then i'll move on to other Nietschze and other philosophy audio books i can find which should keep me busy for the next week or so...

Anyone know where i can find a good amount of free audio books?
  20. I talked about these years ago... on this forum... good to know they've made some progress since the thing on tv about them

I think I would do(assuming we do a small subset to keep it simpler):

    Structural:
    Iron
    Aluminum
    Titanium

    Conductors
    Silver
    Gold
    Copper

    Biological:
    Hydrogen
    Oxygen
    Nitrogen
    Carbon

    Semi-Conductors
    Silicon
    Gallium
    Arsenic
    Germanium

    Radioactives/Energy sources
    Uranium
    Plutonium
    Thorium

If you wished things to be more complicated you could (for example, carbon could also be structural, conductive and semi-conductor). That could be predicated on tech. Hydrogen could also be under energy sources as fusion drives are a science fiction staple.
conductors and semi-conductors should be in the electronic category...i can see making biological the category as opposed to medical food and life support...

I want a range of materials to use for each category with cross over... it makes people have to choose which is best to use for what.

Klingons for example don't really care for comfort and life support and medecine so they'd prioritize, say carbon, for structure rather medecine.
