Folks, when considering, "What constitutes a video game?" please use judgement and discretion.
It's had video elements since before I was born (1985)

The problem with saying please use judgement or discretion is that since we don't know what is considered a video game or competition it is impossible to do so.

Is minecraft competition? I don't think so
Is Champions Online competition? I don't think so

I also wouldn't necessarily call minecraft a game as there are no game like elements to it, or at least there wasn't for a long time. I would call that a artistic application more than a game.

Likewise I wouldn't call most face book games, video games.

Is a simulation a game? I know of Flight simulators where you can fly around in planes and it uses google earth to render the world under you. Is that a game?

What video games constitute competition? Is that Pirates MMO a competitor?

It's kinda like saying a Volkswagon Beetle is competition to a Lamborghini. Yes they are both cars that people drive and they take up market shares, but there is no way that one market share is going to be effected by the other and as such isn't competition...

Likewise, where is the problem in talking of competition? That is the primary marketing strategy of several highly successful businesses...such as, oh I don't know, Apple with's Mac vs PC commercials.

The world in which we live pretty much has set upon that City of Heroes has no real competition and any thing that one might say is competition is so far beneath it that they can only make City look better by comparison.

So according to you saying use discretion, the rule doesn't apply at all because there are no competing video games that do or are planned to exist. Therefor I should be able to talk about any and all games, but that's not the rule now is it?

I apologize for the confusion. Pen and paper RPGs, board games, CCGs (except digital CCGs): all fine to discuss.
so we're allowed to talk about say Pokemn CCG but not the video game Pokemon CCG... and the Magic the gathering CCG but not the Magic the Gathering CCG video game version... That makes perfect sense...

What about Candyland or board games with video elements?

What about altered reality games that use the internet? Technically they are video games.

What about astroempires or Earth 2025 which aren't video games but are internet games that people consider video games

pretty sure that is seinen, but i guess... Lina always felt older. She's always seemed to be in the bracket of technically she's younger but acts and appears older to the point that even though she's 16ish she's more like she's 25ish

I found Ouren High School Host Club to be riotously funny and I'm a guy. Yes they lampshade many shojo tropes but Haruhi, 15, is still a main character on equal footing with her male friends.

Stellvia of the Universe is an school in space series that would interest boys while having a female main character. I'm kind of fuzzy about Shipon's age since she's a prep school student whose class wears an entirely different uniform from the regular students. This seems to indicate she may be as young as 14.

The Vision of Escaflowne is another series with a 15 year old female main character in what seems like a shonen story but blurs the lines at time with all the action going on around her.

A don't know if people would consider Cardcaptor Sakura as a shonen series, probably not. But it's a lot of adventure, magic, action and it's aimed at a much younger audience. The main character is 10 if I remember right.

Azumanga Daioh is another high school all girl series but it's a comedy and the main character did skip several grades so she is much younger than the rest of the characters.
2 of the 4 of those titles aren't shounen/seinen the other 2 I've not seen so can't say but Stellvia looks like what I'm talking about. I don't know anything about escaflowne
  5. So I have this idea for a story and it went from more or less a sentai team of young adults to having a team made of different aged characters... the first being a young character, say 13ish...

And then I got to thinking that it'd be cool to break the trope of the young male hero to making it a young female character and then I got to thinking... are there any young female main characters that are in what is called shounen (young male) demographic media that are not the tag along or some secondary character? The only one I can even remotely come up with is Penny Gadget from inspector gadget where even though she is the main character she is still over shadowed by her uncle?

So can you think of any others?
Do you think young female main character would be a bad idea for a shounen-esque book?

Sorry to harsh your buzz, guys, but I have zero sympathy for these rubber-clad Walter Mitty types and their dreams of Batmanhood. Well, no, that's not entirely true. I have sympathy for them inasmuch as I'm sympathetic to anyone with mental illness, and if you're dressing up in a superhero costume on days other than Halloween and trying to break up bar fights for great justice - with a camera crew in tow - there is clearly something wrong with you.
Actually what he did is not Vigilantism. It is perfectly within the law to do what he should do and he is both legally and morally in the right.

Vigilantism is by law acting outside of the law as their own law.

These "heroes" act within and according to the law, with the law.

Whether he goes out dressed in a mask or not does not matter. As long as he doesn't overstep his bounds, which he clearly hasn't, he's not a vigilante...

but someone likely will at some point especially now adays with how the police are acting, but then again... one might argue not.

But hey, I'm all for looking at things from other angles, so how would you portray it Zombie? Other than "Because they said so." What exactly is the intent of banning talking about Bop it?
Actually we were told we are allowed to talk about things as long as there is a connection with CoH... when ever someone did however it was always moderated and thus caused confusion.

yes... saying that talking about board games is going to impact people paying for CoH is stupid... Someone obvious had that thought either in creating or implementing the rules and thus that person is an incredibly stupid person and they have power on these forums. It's amazing how stupid people gt in positions of power over people...

As far as being less strict I know at least one person just recently had their signature forcibly changed and an avatar and signature I've had for well over a year now was forcibly changed and someone's been messing with the profanity filters so It seems more like they aren't easing up so much...
  11. So dude goes in to stop a fight and tells people to call the authorities which is what you should do. He then get's attacked, the camera crew with him gets attacked, and then the cops come up and tell them to stop filming and arrest the dude in the right?

I can understand why they arrested Phoenix though and it's largely the film crews fault how he reported what was happening over the phone, however, the police in the area should know these guys' MO already so shouldn't have arrested Jones especially since he obviously was cooperating and the one trying to stop the assault... and the cops should not have said anything to the film crew either other than asking to see the tape.

So I find fault with everyone in this situation other than the Phoenix Jones... and personally I would have done a lot more than pepper spray people once they pushed the guy in the wall and made it clear they weren't going to go away with just being sprayed.

Then somebody jumped in a car and tried to run over some of the group and managed to clip one of them.

The cops were willing only to take the statement of the people who claimed Phoenix assaulted them. When the camera man and another person who was there documenting Phoenix's patrol for a book he is writing tried to talk to the police and give their statements they were told to leave the area immediately or get arrested for being accomplices.
And those guys need to be fired and immediately brought up on charges.

I didn't like that "killing faith in the doctor" episode. Largely because that isn't what faith is. Amy TRUSTS the doctor because he does always pull through. She doesn't have faith. It's only faith when you have no evidence or have evidence to the contrary... like I have faith that humans won't destroy the world... Everything points to the opposite, but I still have faith and believe we wont kill ourselves.

This just bothered me because it's an abuse of the language that people get away with and it does severe damage to peoples' understanding of each other.

I don't get the problem considering Sentai is the word for Power Ranger and Shinkenger seems to be the weird word for Ranger that is in every series...

So the series title is literally "Samurai Power Rangers"

Yes Zordon has always been assumed to be a part of a team of Rangers that used the Dino coins (I know they've shown like 4 others of his teams 1 of which is the Magna Defender) but were then killed/separated/imprisoned... He didn't invent Rangers or Zords, but the word Zord seems to have gained popularity through him and he does seem to have limited knowledge about the Ranger powers throughout, building new ranger powers and new zords over time that are better.

    It's speculated by some that
Space Morphers < Zeo Morphers < Turbo Morphers < Dino Coins < Ninja Coins
In terms of power and sophistication... though it may be the case that the morpher technology was being improved the source of power was the more important part...

ie The Coins were less powerful than the Zeo Crystal, but both more powerful than the Space morphers which draw on no power supply. The Dino Coins are less powerful than the Ninja Coins only in that the Ninja Coins were created using those rangers as the source meaning that Kimberly wielding the Ninja Crane powers is more powerful than Kat wielding those same powers. Likewise the Zeo Crystal formed a connection with the various rangers and would have been more powerful for those rangers, but if you speculate that the Zeo Crystal was used for the Turbo powers and it still was gaining power the power differential might have been minimal...

The morpher technology might all be Zordon's and thus the Space < MMPR < Zeo < Turbo is the more powerful morphers or better operating ones regardless of power source...

We also know the power of the coins can be used without morphing and it seems that overtime you grow in power just by being around them and you seem to get default powers just from using them... hence it is possible that anyone that has been in contact with the older powers like Wild Force, Lost Galaxy, Space, Dino, the Alien Rangers, Ninja, can all be explained that way while the newer powers can be explained by way of cameos, time traveling, experimental morphers, etc... since the non-ancient powered morphers are almost all scientific and have multiple copies...

There are only a few Rangers that you'd need to have a cameo from those specific characters that I know of and those are all Tommy and those 4 others that were with him in Dino Thunder. Because for example White Tiger Ranger was completely created by Zordon during the period of time he was on the team...likewise the Falcon Ninja power was derived directly from Tommy... and then Tommy created the Dino Thunder Powers so noone else previously could have had those powers... however assuming that he were to continue using those powers and train new people he could have let others use the powers if it's significantly in the future after Dino Thunder...

I'm spending waaaay too much time on this. so I'm done.

It's not the six degrees of separation game.
The mods and/or their boss don't know what the T rating actually mean and will remove stuff that is perfectly within the T content rating...

"Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language."

Violence - Scenes involving aggressive conflict. May contain bloodless dismemberment
Suggestive Themes - Mild provocative references or materials
Crude Humor - Depictions or dialogue involving vulgar antics, including “bathroom” humor
Simulated Gambling - Player can gamble without betting or wagering real cash or currency
    Blood - Depictions of blood
Strong Language - Explicit and/or frequent use of profanity

    NOTE:
When a content descriptor is preceded by the term "Mild," it is intended to convey low frequency, intensity or severity of the content it modifies.

So even though, say, Harley Quinn's new costume or Emma Frost is perfectly acceptable within the T rating some people don't think so
  21. They could use it to tell stories of Rangers of the past..as in revisit characters OR tell the story of rangers that existed before in the universe...

    DCUO: Legends = B
    Green Arrow = C
    Batwing = C
    Swamp Thing = A+
    Animal Man = B
    Penguin = A+
    Static Shock = C -
    Men of War = B

A pizza's cost can be kept relatively low due to the amount of automated work and scale that goes into agricultural practices. However, in the place of Terra Nova, they have limited farming land, limited capabilities to farm the land they have, and a set number of mouths to feed everyday.

I place a value of $0 on an iPhone as I could give a **** about it. It has no value to me. However, that tomato that I grew? That I spent months tending the plant, pulling the weeds, getting the land ready, patrolling for pests? Far more valuable than a gadget that is of little real use in their place.

... I don't want to explain economics and how fiat currency works. Noone places value on money itself. It's a place holder that makes life simpler by bridging the gap between value and practicality.

    An iPhone is like $500
    A Pizza is like $5

If we maintain valuation then the person who wants the iPhone has to give you 100 pizzas either at the time of the trade or over a period of time. If it's over a period of time there may be disputes over how many pizzas have already been given or remain with no evidence either way. On the other hand if you take 100 pizzas you will have to give them away, resell them, or let them go to waste.

Both bartering results end up with waste and aggravation that wastes energy and time.

With money I can sell 100 pizzas and then buy the iPhone off of you. You can then buy a pizza off me or someone else and still have $495 left to spend elsewhere.
