Turns out that "B5" is a forbidden combination of characters. /headdesk
"B5" was where the filter programmer's battleship was. Someone sank it. It was stricken from the game and forever filtered thereafter. For the filter programmer? He is VENGEANCE.

Well, ok, not really, but I do still like the old ones better.
That's my problem with the new design too. This Praetorian Clockwork...isn't Clockwork. There's no visual resemblance to anything we've been shown over the past 5 years as Clockwork. It's just a robot/cyborg. It's Techwork.

Whether or not Antimatter's and Neuron's Clockwork actually count as Praetorian Clockwork or not, this thing just doesn't fit the bill. "Clockwork" implies something ramshackle made of gears and clunky bits, not sleek futuristic technology. It's like taking the Devoured models and relabeling them "Sexy Hos". It just doesn't work.

If that was your face, you'd look upset too.

I just hope they explain at some point how in heck this thing is any kind of Clockwork. No Clockwork I've ever seen, Praetorian or otherwise, looks like that. Maybe the marketing team for GR messed up, thinking that Praetorian Clockwork didn't already exist?

I have a Mercs/Poison Mastermind on Justice. Granted he's not even 10, because he's low-priority on my lengthy alt list. But still, he exists!
  5. My handle came from having seen the French & Saunders parody of the Star Wars prequels. Jennifer Saunders' Qui-Gon Jinn pastiche was named "Pork Dim Sum", and most of the Jedi in the sketch were also named after Chinese food. So my own handle became "Duck Dim Sum" because I wanted my own fake/silly Jedi name. And also, because dim sum is awesome, y'all.

This is the only place I use that name, though, and to date there is no Duck Dim Sum in-game. I've tried making several, but I always end up changing them because I can never give any of my characters silly names. My I16 Dual Blades/Elec Scrapper is currently slated to carry the DDS title, but I'm still seriously considering finding him a more appropriate superhero name.
  6. I like the appearance of current Granite Armor; I like that my Stone Brute essentially transforms whenever I use it, and the fact that it is also a DE critter model is integral to my character's backstory. As much as possible, I'd like to keep Granite's "transformative" quality. But if it were possible to make it customizable, with a legacy Granite option and other choices, as suggested I'd be all for that.
  7. Eh? But you quoted yourself...are you forum PVPing with yourself?

    Vs. Carnies?

The three characters I have that are high level enough to fight Carnies are my Storm/Energy Defender, my Stone/Stone Brute, and my Peacebringer. I've soloed Carnie missions pretty frequently with all three characters, and I've never really noticed any serious end drain in the process. Not even on the Brute, who sucks a lot of end and is fitted with plenty of endrec enhancements to make up for it - if he was seriously being drained, I would notice.

I've always heard people talk about Carnies and their endurance-draining parting shots, but they've never really slowed me down to the point where I notice or care. Maybe I need to be more persnickety?

The street thugs and the crazies just have excellent publicists.

    1. Battle Maiden - does not rez, and then MoG.
    2. Tyrant - I can not believe that most of the others put up a better fight.
    3. Infernal - doesn't summon any demons?
    4. Shadow Hunter - If that is suppose to be Woodsman? if so, he needs his Tuatha de Dannan, or make them wolves. But he is probably the strongest of the Preatorians depending on your AT. I did use a Shivan to take him out.
5 Marauder - I believe Back Alley Brawler has some energy Melee attacks and Maurader is just SS.

The Synapse and Positron version seem to be pretty tough, so they may need to be just tweeked.
Shadow Hunter and the Woodsman have always had different powers. Shadow Hunter came first, which is why he's a Stone/Stone Brute. Woodsman was only put into the game once Villains launched, which is why he's...whatever weird and impossible combo he is. What does he have, Plant Control/Tuatha Summoning? When are we getting the Controlling Mastermind AT, devs?

In over 5 years I've logged in the game almost daily and I always hate it. Every month I pay my subscription fee and I rage at having to pay for this horrible game when the development team never listens to me. They never give me what I want. I don't really know what that is but they never do it. They never make the game the way I tell them to. Well sometimes they do what I tell them to but then I end up not liking it because it's dumb and they should have known that. What am I paying them for?

So if they stopped giving me more stuff I would definitely be outta here because the stuff that I have been playing since May of 2004 up until now has never been any good and it sickens me that I am forced to spend so much time playing this game, a game that I pay for and it's always been terrible.

Multiple free updates over 5 years, not to mention one paid expansion we were forced to buy....nice way to squeeze extra money out of people by the way...did you really think we wouldn't figure that out? and they have never once gotten it right.

I try to be patient because I'm a mature adult but I can only take being ripped off and defrauded for so long.

If there were no more free updates I would quit this stupid game that I play daily just like I have been telling the developers that I would with every update they have ever had.

I would go play some other game out there that is actually good where the developers actually listen to their playerbase and design their MMOs around each individual player to give them what they want. Every other MMO out there does this. There is no excuse that this one doesn't do that too.

Then I would be gone and this company wouldn't have my subscription fee anymore. Hopefully maybe then they would learn because it seems it is the only thing that will teach them and maybe finally get them to fix this game and make it good.

I would also probably file a Class Action lawsuit because not putting out anymore content updates in an online game is clearly "bait and switch" and fraud. I looked it up on the internet somewhere and read it and plus my dad is a lawyer so I know what I am talking about.
Oh well played, sirrah. Well played.

And who says a brute has to be dumb? There's Archtypes, and then there's stereotypes.

And why is it that brutes and tanks are the only ATs viewed this way?

Hey, you can build any character with any AT and powerset combo you want. But I'm not going to make any DB Brutes or Tankers anytime soon, and you can't make me.

Animals and Vehicles in I17! Plus new Prop Comedy powerset!

The thing about the difficulty setting is that people seem to misunderstand the idea that you can move it more than once and in either direction. I change mine frequently based on my own powers, level, slotting, team capability, the bad guys I'm facing, and even how much time I have.

If you need more of a challenge, move it up. It doesn't matter what your AT or level is, if you want to be challenged, move it up. When you run into tough situations, move it back down. The charge minimal in the grand scheme of things.

My Dark Defender usually plays on the middle setting, my Empath on Heroic, My Ice/Kin Controller on low to middle, etc. My Controller and Empath can play on harder settings, but it takes longer to get through a mission, so I usually have them lower. My Scrappers and Brutes usually have them middle+. With most characters, I don't go higher than Heroic until I get some form of Stamina just because I end up spending too much time recovering when I'm solo. Regens and Masterminds I start bumping up much more quickly.

The difficulty setting isn't something anyone needs to "leave" on any one setting. Your character changes, your bad guys change, your teammates change - so should your difficulty setting.
This. My first character, a Storm/Energy Defender, spent most of his journey to 50 on Heroic. I did (and still do) my fair share of soloing with him, and he solos on Heroic; playing him by himself at any of the other levels is a PITA to me and not worth it. It's definitely not as fast to level as playing at higher difficulties, teaming, or using the AE, but it's not supposed to be.

It is absolutely possible to solo a character to 50 on Heroic. But don't expect it to be as quick as using other methods/difficulties. If you don't find it to your own liking, there's nothing stopping you from raising your difficulty or teaming.

Or for all I know people don't feel their brute is "brute-y" enough if he's not pounding people with their fists. I will be the first to admit that I find the mind of a brute sort of murky and remote from my own.
That's always been my opinion. Dual Blades involves a lot of fancy dancing, which just does not mesh with any image of a Brute I've ever had. Brute no twirl around with skinny swords! Brute SMASH!

As an aside, ditto for Tankers. I could never take a lumbering bulwark "big guy" archetype seriously using the Dual Blades set. At least, not unless you max out his size and pick the smallest weapon skins available, to say "I'm so big, this is how small my weapons are in my hands!"

I don't know if that makes sense.
Not really. "Temp(orary)" is only related to quality indirectly, i.e. something temporary would probably of lesser quality than something more permanent. The word really does speak directly to duration.

It's not that I don't like the shoulders on the models and want to cover them up, it's just that I think that if you're going to wear a cloak it should be somewhat enveloping. Having a flowing cloak that goes over the shoulders is a completely different (And more impressive) effect than just a towel tied around your neck
I designed a Final Fantasy ninja-esque outfit for one of my characters recently, and found that the Reaper piece + shoulder-covering mantle option works pretty well for a shawl-like cape.

  21. Blue fire for my Fire/Elec Blaster and golden energy blasts for my Storm/Energy Defender.

...Though if I do make my Blaster's fire blue, what do I do with the /Elec? I originally intended him to be Fire/Elec/Cold epic for a whole 3 primary colors/forces theme. But if my fire is blue, and ice is naturally blue, and electricity is that periwinkle sort of color that it is, that's a bit much for me. Anyone have a good alternate elec color that goes well with blue?

Personally I would not go with that jacket with the skirt; not with the chest and hips sliders where they are. They don't flatter her figure at all, and make her look very mannish.
  23. My battle cries have never been particularly interesting. But after seeing the Freedom Phalanx (particularly Sister Psyche) during the end of CoV beta, I did give my Storm/Energy Defender a snarky macro. "Today's forecast calls for heavy thunderstorms, a severe sun advisory, and a 100% chance of me kicking your ***!"

Only beings in this game that seem cosmic to me are Faathim the Kind, Lanaru the Mad, Ruladak the Strong and Rularuu the Ravager.
Don't confuse cosmic powers with cosmic beings. Having cosmic powers generally just means broad spectrum energy-manipulating abilities, which any Energy/* Blaster, Corruptor, or Brute, */Energy Defender, Tanker, or Dominator, or Kheldian would fulfill quite nicely.

A cosmic being, meanwhile, would indeed be something like Rularuu or his incarnations. And if you want power levels on the scale of Rularuu, don't hold your breath. All you can do in that respect is pretend, and then mostly in your own mind. No single player character is ever actually going to be that powerful outside of their player's imagination.
