    Def vs Res

I agree with alot of whats said here. But lets face facts most of this game is just tank and spank. So herding with a decent tank is the quickest most effecient method, its just the team setup I find important.

When I was playing a stone tank regularly we'd run with 2 healer's usually an empath and a kin defender, 2-3 blasters. The rest of the team after that is optional like maybe controller's to lockdown the herd once they are in place and maybe a scrapper to offtank runner's or anything that might go after the defenders.

All of them knew what they were doing, being the most helpful aspect of herding, i'll set them up, they get locked down, blaster comes in and use's their final primary power to nuke, left over mobs are quickly cleaned up. The blaster rotations are important here which is why we'd have 2-3 in the team. When done right the pace is incredibly fast, simple and never had any deaths.

If it's not broken, don't try to fix it seems to apply here.
  2. Hey everyone,

I've been looking at different power sets. I already have spines/regen about level 32 atm and claws/SR at 14.

Thing is I really like the look of the spines/da combo and have made a proposed build. If anyone has any tips or just different ways I can slot to be more effecient then your input is more then welcome. I'm only using the IO's until I can build up some inf. for sets with bonuses.

    Here goes:

  3. With pets and players running round like crazy fools ( like most do) popping that and then having everyone run out of LoS or the AoE would be fairly annoying, unless of course there's a stupidly high range put on it. The concept seems a bit OP anyway, give certain classes the power to mass buff, you then have to balance other classes.

    Scrapper build?

I'm finding spines/regen extremely fun. at level 32 with it at the moment working with just SO's, it's SO's because I'd made the character years before Inventions were released. Still works suprisingly well.

I've looked at the Will Power set briefly, seems to be taking of bits from regen and invuln IMO. Seems alot more worthwhile for pvp though having the knockback and repel resistance.

It would seem most teams I've gotten invited to are just full of messer's. Everytime I've gone to pull to a corner, or around a door frame so we don't pull the 2nd group.

I mean its forgivable at low levels, but we're talking about people level 30+ that know you're trying to pull. Still the blaster throws out all their aoe's, the scrapper goes head first into the fray usually with PBAoE on and then the controller will lock them down in the biggest mess you've ever seen.

All of that makes me feel sorry for the healer, but these people that screw the whole thing up never seem to look at themselve's when it goes wrong and the group wipes. Instead they'll blame the tank and said healer

I did laugh when you said "Sometimes I wonder if put the round peg in the round hole is too major of an instruction. On the cavern trial I have had to go as far as telling people how to click on the stupid stone XD" thats pretty bad.

    So true.

It's ok alot of people out there still can't grasp the idea of pulling. Knockbacks annoy the hell out of me also. Have you considered making a macro to let team mates know you're casting a power on a fixed location so they can avoid knocking mobs out of it?
  7. Duality_EU

    Def vs Res

Indeed, at the end of the day its your choice. No one can make you take a route with your powers.
  8. Duality_EU

    Def vs Res

It can be ported somewhat by dual blades, but I was refering more to the fact that his scrapper is more intended for offtanking a single target or damage dealing. In which case what he's said isn't really that helpful to a tank as you don't just think about mitigation you also need reliability because you are the centre of attention.

Though I do agree on the last part, which is exactly what faultline was saying. On a tank below 20% isn't worth it.
  9. Duality_EU

    Def vs Res

I'm merely saying that although it works on your scrapper it's not something a tank is going to be capable of.

I have been know to be wrong, though i'm sure i'd seen it on a character planner nvm though it's not that huge a deal.

I think some posters are going off topic though talking about what their scrapper can do with dark armor and divine avalanche. I'm pretty sure tanks don't use the Katana. (not directed at you faultline by the way)
  11. Duality_EU

    Def vs Res

I thought defense worked differently to resistance. Meaning Resistance is the amount of damage reduction from incoming attack, Where as defense is taken per attack roll, each hit will either have a 10-20% chance of not hitting you.

I wouldn't say that to stone tanks. the numbers for defense and resistance I got from mine in granite armor was around 40% defense across everything but psi. Damage Resistance you'll easily cap at 95% smashing/lethal, everything but psi resistance is around 80-83%. Have not had any major endurance problems unless there's alot of sappers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Shows you know the Tank Res cap (90% iirc)

    [/ QUOTE ]

you do recall correctly mate, however the last time I'd played CoH was about a year ago, at the time it was capped at 95%. The file i'd saved for mid's hero designer appears to be corrupted, so I made another upto current level, the organisation may be different but I was short of time.

This is for those who said can you tank outside of granite.

There is also -acc from granite as well. I'd like to mention my comment about stone tanks wasn't centered on granite either. Granted most powers are defense, but there is also brimstone armor and stone skin which give you +resistance.

I'll try and post my spec soon, but its mainly against mobs with psi damage that you'll want to step out of it for. I'll apologise now if I've offended anyone, but my points are only opinions not criticism.
  14. Duality_EU

    Def vs Res

Personally I'm loving ice/fire. not only do i get the damage resistances reliability, but also gain damage mitigation from pulling mobs into tight spaces and placing ice patch, lol then burn. Granted it was hard work getting there, but like anything worth having it wasn't going to be easy.

Fire/Fire is great for damage I agree, but tanks are just meatshields not damage dealers.
  15. Duality_EU

    Def vs Res

Sorry if I'd gone off the point. But I was saying defense is more important to ice/invuln as that's their form of mitigation. With stone you have more then enough survivability through resistance to go without the defense slots in granite armor.

I agree with the other posters in regards to dropping flurry and WW.

It is pretty much vital to get hasten so you can keeping healing flames and consume available as much as possible. Also very nice for an "Oh *****" button when things do start going wrong.

Also have an ice melee/fire aura tank, so much fun. It's something like 20sec's recharge on ice patch, 18 seconds on burn. The Rarity that healing flames is needed its on 20 second recharge with 3 health IO's and hasten slotted with 3 recharge IO's.
  17. Had some time free so messed about with the build, included medicine in place of epic power pool. Follow up is slotted 2xrecharge, 1xaccuracy. Spin can replace Shockwave if you want it earlier.
