I'm pretty sure that's only the best when you have the powers' slotting maxxed. IE: Hecatomb set and achilles proc in AS, Armageddon set + Fury of the gladiator proc in SS. Could be wrong as I don't play dual blades as to if it's only the best if it has those IOs, but what makes that chain so good is the 2 -res procs and 2 purple dmg procs.

Quote:I'll say it again. For *me* they aren't viable. For others they may be. For others, there may be sets (whether the same or different than me) that they don't consider viable choices with SD, this goes for any set too. The point is lost now though, so it doesn't matter.Concept or not, those four listed are still viable choices with Shield Defense and just because you don't like them, doesn't mean you can discount them out of hand as viable choices *at all*. There are also two other archetypes that use Shield Defense, and Tanks/Brutes have four more powersets that are usable with Shield Defense, for a total of 13 powersets you can use with Shield Defense, and 6 you can't (one of which is not available yet, Staff, so really 5).
Your initial statement read like you were stating a game fact, when you were in fact stating a highly restricted opinion based on one archetype and what powersets you like.
Can't use: Claws, Spines, Dual Blades, Katana, Titan Weapons [and Staff Fighting]
Can use: Battle Axe, Broad Sword, Dark Melee, Electrical Melee, Energy Melee, Fiery Melee, Ice Melee, Kinetic Melee, Martial Arts, Stone Melee, Street Justice, Super Strength, War Mace
Regardless of that, 40% of scrapper primaries can't be paired with SD, which is alot. -
Wouldn't it be better for the survey is people with multiple accounts compile their inf into one figure? Since it's one person and they could otherwise distribute the inf between the 2 accounts however they please.
-
Quote:Because of concept.Battle Axe and Broad Sword? "Wouldn't want to play with Shield Defense"? Really? Uhhhh, BA and BS are like half of the Shield Defense characters I see out there, LOL.
I was just using them as an example of ones I wouldn't play with SD, as I could care less about concept. -
Quote:Of scrappers' 15 melee sets (since when I talk about shield defense, I specifically mean scrappers), 6 of those can't be played with shield defense, or 40%, which is pretty darn close to half.Half?
You can't pair it with: Claws, Spines, Dual Blades, Katana, Titan Weapons or Staff Fighting. Let's see, there are, what, 17 melee sets in the game? Not half. A few would be more accurate.
Then of those remaining, how many of those sets would whoever is looking at playing shield defense not want to play? For me that's 4 of them (BA, WM, BS, and MA), making 66% of the sets not playable with shield defense. Having mutually exclusive sets is really limiting to what you can do with a powerset. -
Quote:Elec Armor performs way better on brutes.I'm going for a pretty high end build here, which is why I am doing so much research. But at 33 I am almost (soooo close) tanking most of the stuff. Even diving into fresh spawns on the Manti last night when the team wasnt quite done with the last one. But again, lots and lots of I/Os. Lots of S/L Defense. I would compare the survivability favorably with the SS/Invul Brute that is similarly I/Od and around the same level. I figure that the Elec Armor Scrapper will be a little mushier in high end 50 lvl mobs. Time will tell.
-
A new armor set is long overdue. The last was shield defense and you can't pair it with half the sets.
Another support set would be nice also, but I would be hard pressed to say any new support set would be competitve with kin or cold, which is really unfortunate. -
Quote:Though outside of incarnate trial AVs, the stacking cap is rarely an issue.Interfaces have a stacking cap, and it applies no matter who cast it. It's either four or five stacks, depending on the power. So...
This is why I plan on multiple Interfaces on all my characters, once they release the solo path (I am not a fan of most of the iTrials). If everyone has Reactive, slot something else. -
Quote:Before Energize, every elec brute ran aid self (well, they should have) and with it elec brutes really didn't have such gaping survivability issues.Back before Elec Armor had a self heal, "kill 'em quick" was the only way to play unless you wanted to do hit and run.
As a side note, I had always thought it was funny that the Devs pulled Ice Armor from Brutes in COV Beta because the slows were hindering Fury generation. Meanwhile on my Elec Armor Brute, out of desperation, I developed a play style where I would do everything I could to keep the enemies from being able to attack because they could pretty much auto-hit me and I was getting shredded.
Anyway, I do slot some end mods in my powers and I find that sapping does help with longer fights.
My 2nd 50 was an EM/Elec brute, and even with the added damage from ET, Aid Self was more than enough to keep me alive. -
Quote:Or you could have just spammed your single target hold since it was just an EB >_>I wouldn't call it completely useless in PvE. Maybe not worth it, but not useless. I was able to solo an EB on my elec/sonic troller simply by walking up to it and draining it's endurance. Keeping it perma flatlined helped me kill it safely (at a glacial pace). It's a fun idea on paper, if not quite as useful as other tactics.

Quote:And I was so looking forward to having another thing to micromanage D:According to the patch notes, that's exactly how it works. Admittedly, I have not tested it myself.
Either way, despite my own hopes and wishes for it, I think it's better that way.
That goes for pretty much any content in any game. Remember when people thought ITFs were challenging? -
Quote:I would be very sad if it worked this way.I think it works by teleporting people to the TF contact, which would be slower than having the rest of team ready at the mission door.
Quote:Here's the problem... you still need a leader, that has always been the issue with the queue. This problem won't go away.
As for trials, lams and bafs are pretty much auto pilot run. I don't see people full pug lfg queueing the higher trials though. -
Quote:When you first log in after your sub expires all of your characters will be locked. At the top of your screen in the character select you will have X number of tokens to unlock characters, where X is 2 plus any you bought or whatever. So you choose which ones you keep access to.I currently have a VIP account, but I was wondering, if I was to "downgrade" to a free account, how does it determine which characters I have available to use, since you're only allowed 2 and I currently have 50+? Does it let me pick a couple or do I have to start over and have to make new characters for the free account?
Also, if I "downgraded" to free, would I be able to "upgrade" back to my VIP account in the future and still have my current (pre-"downgrade") content and characters?
Second part: Yes you can upgrade back at any time by resubbing and have everything you had when you were last a VIP. -

Quote:You win 10 internets.
This reminds me of something almost entirely irrelevant...
When I used to live with my brother, and when the hour got way later than anticipated...
One of us would occasionally secretly sneak into the other's peripheral, wearing a strange outfit and pretending to be a little person (standing on knees with shoes sticking out as though your legs are that short, arms mostly inside your shirt/jacket... a bowler or top hat for effect, maybe a monocle or whatever props you can find quickly and that you think'll work well that night... sometimes peering over a newspaper) - usually while the other was brushing their teeth or sleepily walking through the hallway or something (I did this for a few of his late night bathroom trips too)...
And wait for that tired person to suddenly see you, unexpectedly, out of the corner of their eye...
And then the little person would say, in a very raspy voice, "It's 3 in the mornin'".
The reason I share this with you is...
Maybe you need a dwarf standing around your house to remind you not to post, because "It's three in the mornin'".

Quote:I know, right?oh god thank you for posting this I cannot express the infinite and unbounded rage I experience every time someone confuses these two
As for the OP; I won't be using the queue to join TFs. I don't PuG. However I will be using (assuming it works this way) the function to start TFs while standing on the first door of the mission. 30 seconds less to complete a TF? ILL TAKE IT! -
Unless you have a certain number of paragon reward token (vet rewards) and you are f2p your IOs will be locked unless you buy a liscence.

Oh if the OP is just talking about the costume, then I think that's fine. I thought he meant powers also, like the dopplegangers.

Well, let's say with all technicalities of actually implementing this aside, they did implement it.
You'd have 3 Decoy's that were all illusion/x pets where X is your secondary.
Right now Phantom Army only uses blast and melee powers, not control and support powers.
If they changed the decoys to illusion+support powers it would entirely be changing what kind of powers the pets used (from dps abilities with taunt components to control and support). In a nutshell, I'm pretty sure this is breaking the cottage rule.
What powers would they give them anyways? Definitely Spectral Wounds. The only other option I can see from illusion control would be Blind (since I don't see them allowing the decoys to spawn more decoys, when phantasm already does this), and that brings the pets from being able to damage and taunt to being able to damage, taunt, and hold. The case is even worse when looking at your secondary. If I'm a Ill/Cold troller does that mean each of my 3 decoys would be able to drop sleets?
Then there is slotting, since the ability would basically encompass every power trollers have access to in their secondary, pretty much every IO set would need to be available to them.
I just don't see it working. -
Well that game also has a very different community than coh, one that caters more to such a playstyle, where things actually matter, and it works for those people that play that game. And tbh making a team there wasn't that bad. sins/glads/temps/chanters could all tank, clerics/chanters could heal, anything could dps, and mez was only needed if your group was bad.

Quote:Nice to see it compiled, this is a great thread.Updated through this post: #81
Accounts: ~97 (a couple of you combined them)
Est. Inf: ~1.8 Trillion
In my original post, I'll update the percentages from my spreadsheet as more
data get added.
Of course, a mere 97 accounts is, statistically speaking, miniscule, but looking
at the results so far, it does appear likely to be a standard distribution, skewed
somewhat towards the higher end.
That's not unexpected as I'd believe forum goers to be more informed, have
more access to inf making strategies, and generally be a bit more "gung-ho"
(ie. dedicated to playing this game) overall than the average player.
Category E is interesting to me, so I'll be curious to see more data.
Once again, thanks for all the responses.
Keep 'em coming.
Cheers,
