Heh I remember Sim City.
We used to "work" on it as part of computer class in middle school. Best class of the day :] -
Quote:
- Three-man mothership raid
- Two-Man MoLGTF
- 15 minute ITF
- 8 minute 46+ Treespec
Those are the ones that come to mind offhand, but I know there's been a lot more.I was there for all those cept for the LGTF I think. Fun times.
Hmm as for me...
Winning my first PvP tournament. Finals were me on my em/elec brute and X on his ice/storm controller against a fire/em blaster (can't remember whos) and Neo's mind/ice dom.
Beating X's ice/storm for the first time on my rad/psy.
Pulling off clutch heals on my emp in any match. Felt so good.
Making people rage in pvp on my fortunata (I was the cool fort that took tough/weave and no one could scratch it)
Making people rage on my Peacebringer in pvp. And watching people roll PBs trying to copy me.
All of my speed records. I'll always regret not using fraps more, I'm just glad Cam got one of them (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euK0vPcqdjM)
All done before judgment/interface/lore/destiny, and all without use of temps:
14:48 Tin Mage
15:51 Apex
14:43 ITF
27:12 STF
23:43 RSF (7 man)
8:40 Villspec
Getting called elitist trash by Amy for soloing the turrets in lambda (which quickly became the standard way to run lambda on champion)
Nearly soloing a MoLGTF on my fire/em blaster (beat hamidon, and got the Honoree down to popping unstoppable before he ran me dry of insps (this was before judgement/interface etc)) Could probably have done it if I tried again, but soloing TFs was never really my thing.
So much more to mention, but I think alot of things that were amazing in the past just don't have as much meaning now a days so I don't remember alot of stuff. For example way back when doing the RSF in 35 mins was considered hot stuff, now a days thats a joke though. -
Oh yes, I'm sure coming across as hateful, spiteful, bitter people in all the publicity we've been getting will help our endeavors of actually getting some sort of positive outcome from this whole situation.

Quote:It may be fantasy and it may be generic if you compare it to other games in the genre, but it does alot of things differently that make the entire experience quite different. It's not a grind fest. You don't spend 6 hours camping for rare spawns. You're not going to rage if someone jumps in and starts attacking your mob because that actually helps you. PvP isn't dominated by one faction/team because things get shooken up by the game constantly to keep things even. GW2 might be a generic fantasy mmo if the only thing you care about is what genre it is, but that doesn't change the fact that gw2 did alot of things right as well, some things better than coh, and it has alot of room to grow. There is more to it than it being a good or bad game. A lot of people play City of Heroes not because of it being casual, but because it's just not another frigging fantasy MMO.
Outside of the fantasy realm, CoH was just the best there is and was, not just among super hero mmos.
Quote:That's not to mention the super sidekick system. Even one to one sidekicking like at CoH launch is not acceptable for me anymore. I need a game where the whole team can be set to act at the same level of effectiveness. Few games out there do that (Champions online and perhaps Star Trek?) -
Quote:No one is pushing anything in anyone's faces. If you don't want to talk about other games you are welcome to not participate in said thread.[Redacted.]
Felt great to type, felt responsible to delete.
I WILL say this. It's just not the time or place to be pushing that crap in people's faces. Not here, given the circumstances.
Show some restraint and tact, if you have any. Some of us aren't ready and willing to throw our arms around the publisher who nuked the best studio ever without warning. Don't tell me about other studios. You can't give your money to ArenaNet without also giving it to NCSoft. -
Quote:I'm enjoying it as well. With all the talk/reviews on this board lately of how good GW2 is, I had to try it out. Now having played COX since before issue 1 and initally poo-pooing any ideas of playing another MMO, once I actually tried GW2 and went beyond my assumptions that I couldn't find a game that gave me the same satisfaction that COX gave me, I discovered a really fun game.
Thanks for the suggestions all and I encourage others who were in my same mindset to give it a try.
If people can get past their bitterness, they'd realize there are other good games not named CoH. It won't be coh, but that doesnt mean it is automatically better or worse.
GW2 actually has a very casual core to it that I could see appealing to the playstyles of many CoH players. IE: You can get into pretty much anything that is happening on the server without needing to be part of some elite guild. Everything out in the world is co-operative and doesn't encourage competing for kills/quest spawns, etc, which harbors a very friendly atmosphere like CoH did. Structured PvP is randomized meaning you can get into it without needing some crazy premade, and the dungeons are also completly doable as a PuG.
@OP: what server? -
Quote:If you bought the game as a digital download you cannot return it/get a refund. If you pre-purchased GW2 - can you send it back and ask for a refund?
Not asking anyone who has already bought the game to do so. That's your decision.
This is a purely technical question. Can you? Or is that not allowed?
I can tell you right now, that if I were in that position? No matter how pretty the game was, or how many of my friends were playing it and begging me to join them. I KNOW that I would be looking at this option. And if it were possible to do so, I WOULD ask for a refund and I would tell NCSoft exactly why they had lost my business.
However, if they have your money already and you CAN'T get it back, then yeah. No use NOT getting your money's worth.
(Okay. So it strayed from the purely technical. I'm a little bitter.)
If you bought a physical copy of the game, then you can. -
Quote:This is very similar to my thoughts on the matter as well. What I can tell you is that it is extremely unlikely for them to ever say 'derp! maybe we will reverse all decisions and hire everyone back just to show how weak and stupid we are' so realistically I don't see anything happening that will ever let us play the game beyond Nov 30 - and that includes anything the Titan Network comes up with. Maybe I'm pessimistic but I just don't see anything happening.
-
Currently I'd just rather play a game that I don't have to pay for at all. It's hard to motivate myself to pay a monthly sub when I could play another game I like and not pay every month. If there weren't f2p games out there competing for my mmo choice that I put my time into, then I would probably spend an extra $5 easily. The difference between 15 and 20 is negligible, the difference between 0 and 15/20 is quite a bit bigger though.

Extremely casual environment. There is nothing "hardcore" about this game. Even the most "hardcore" people that play this game would be considered casual in other games.
The game has always catered to casuals very evident with the difficulty of the game (or lack thereof). The only competitve portion of the game was PVP and that died in i13. -
84 lvl 50s
11 Controllers
Fire/Kin (originally a farm toon, became main toon and badge toon)
Fire/Rad (was a GM soloing project)
Fire/Ta (pvp project, to abuse immob stacking and grounding, gutted by i13))
Fire/Thrm (pvp project to abuse immob stacking while healing in 2v2, gutted by i13)
Grv/Thrm (pvp project to abuse phasing to avoiding spiking in 2v2), gutted by i13)
Ill/Emp (pvp toon both pre and post i13, emped for a number of MoSTFs)
Ill/Cold (endgame soloing project)
Ill/Strm (pvp project, had decent success 1v1, as well as soloing some avs/tfs)
Mnd/Strm (pvp project, got deleted by devs during the early AE dev rampage of deletion)
Ice/Rad (Speed Katie toon for a while)
Ice/Ff (No idea)
11 Corruptors
Snc/Kin (5th 50, ran daily RSFs)
Fire/Kin (One of my main powerhouses that I used for much of my speed TF runs in tandem with my fire/cold)
Fire/Time (an attempt at matching my fire/cold and fire/kin for teams that lacked a defensive core, fell through)
Fire/Cold x2 (the first was made on my alt account and i remade it on my main account. My fire/cold was my favorite PvE toon of all time, only regret is having not made it sooner. Held most of the game-wide TF speed records)
Fire/Pain (a failed attempt at being an equivalent to an emp redside)
Fire/Thrm (3rd 50, ran daily RSFs)
Snc/Thrm (replaced my original therm, deleted later on for better corrs, therms were always awesome though, especially for carrying squishy teams through speed content/master runs)
Elec/Thrm (PvP project, Elec/therms were boss, never really finished mine but played on my friend's account alot to play his elec/therm.)
Rad/Cold (pvp project)
Ar/Rad (hilarious pvp project early in the day before the discovery of fire)
10 Blasters
Nrg/Em (first toon, 4th 50)
Psy/Em x2 (pvp projects)
Arc/Em (post i13 pvp project)
Fire/Em (pvp project, tip runner, did some speed stuff)
Fire/Dev (early pvp project)
Fire/Elec x2 (first was pvp project, 2nd was a pve project to replace my fire/em when i was remaking stuff onto my main account)
Fire/Mntl (farm project)
Ice/Mntl (pvp project attempt at rchg debuff stacking)
9 Defenders
Rad/Psy (main pvp toon for the majority of pre-i13 pvp)
Rad/Ice (pvp project, attempt at a different take of my rad/psy)
Cold/Drk (pvp project, was decent, but not enough dmg)
Kin/Elec (pvp project, sapping ideas)
Ta/Snc (pvp project)
Strm/Snc (pvp project, there was this beast storm/sonic on champ that did massive dmg in duels, i forget who it was, but it was made mostly to try and live up to that)
Snc/Ice (pvp project)
Snc/Snc x2 (pve projects that just never worked, sonic/sonic defenders had such sexy numbers that always drew me to them, but just not that great in practice)
9 Scrappers
Km/Sd (pve, first pylon project)
Kat/Rgn (pve, first scrapper)
Kat/Wp (pve, only toon I solo'd entirely to 50, mostly in outdoor AE maps)
Bs/Rgn (pvp)
Fire/Fire (pve, AMAZING Silver Mantis farmer, solo'd the TF in 35-40 mins while logging in 4-6 other accounts for massive merits, first person with /FA secondary to be competitve with the mass amount of /SD times in the pylon thread)
Fire/Rgn (pve)
Fire/Sd (pve)
Spn/Drk (pve/farming)
Ma/Fire (an off server project)
Clws/Sr (an off server project)
9 Dominators
Plnt/Psy x2 (first was a farm toon, as I never wanted to make a fire/psy always fearing the eventual nerf, second remade the first after I deleted the first in disgust with the nerfs)
Ice/Elec (pvp project)
Mnd/Elec (pvp project)
Mnd/Fire x2 (first was pvp project, second was pve and became a main toon, pretty much only toon that can be insanely ridiculous without needing AoE)
Mnd/Ice (pvp project, I'm pretty sure I made this because of Neo's mind/ice who I dueled alot on my em/elec)
Mnd/Em x2 (pvp projects at different times)
9 Brutes
Tw/Elec (a main character)
Em/Elec (2nd 50, first pvp toon, first farm toon (yes I farmed on energy melee, I'm that boss), ran RSFs before I had my therm)
Fire/Fire (first real farm toon)
Ss/Fire (finally broke down and made one, would have significantly less brutes if I just made this one first, lol)
Ss/Sd (failed farm toon)
Ss/Drk (failed farm toon)
Ss/Invl (failed farm toon)
Ss/Wp (failed farm toon)
Db/Wp (No idea)
4 EATs
Peacebringer x2 (pvp toons, first never really happened, second had pretty good success, alot of people tried to copy what I did with that PB, but never succeeded without my epic macros)
Arachnos Widow (started as a Fort, became my main pvp toon after/alongside my rad/psy, tried to salvage it as a PvE fort and PvE nightwidow after they gutted forts in pvp, didnt really work out sadface)
Arachnos Soldier (ghetto farm toon)
5 Stalkers
Em/Rgn (early pvp toon in sirens call, did 'stalker pling (door sitting mish bonuses))
Elec/Wp (later pvp toon, got really good on this one in RV and kickballs)
Dm/Nin (pvp project)
Dm/Sr (pvp project)
Km/EA (pve project, failed because of broken stealth ATO)
4 Tanks
Inv/Ss (pvp project)
Ice/Fire (A really early hero side farmer)
Fire/Em (pvp project when they made fossilize do insane dmg)
Wp/Sm (pve project, made a serious attempt at making a pve tank, only confirmed by belief in tanks being awful)
3 Masterminds
Ninja/Dark (first 50, badge toon)
Thugs/Psn (pvp project)
Bots/Pain (No idea what I planned for this toon, all I remember was deleting it within 60 seconds of it hitting 50)
Of those 84, only 8 aren't deleted, those being fire/kin troller, fire/kin corr, fire/cold corr, tw/elec brute, ss/fire brute, fire/elec blaster, plant/psy dom, and mind/fire dom. The remaining 8 being what I consider to be the best possible coh has to offer. ALOT on the list were pre-i13 toons, as I experimented alot more with PvP toons back then, PvE being much more straight forward. I never leveled a toon just to level a toon, they all had a purpose of some sort at the time of their making.
edit: And no I never leveled a crappy Warshade. The only reason I have Peacebringers is that they were PvP projects. The second incarnation of my PB was alot of fun infact, made Budweiser rage super hardcore in kickballs. But WSs are still bad, and will always be bad. Yup Dechs. -
No, if I had to start from scratch I probably would not play the game again.
Not just because of my 8 fully leveled, fully accolade'd, fully T4 incarnate'd, fully top end IO build'ed, badged, etc perfect toons (not to mention the other 73 lvl 50s that I played searching for those perfect toons), but because if I were to start from the begining on something I'd rather just get into something new. It wouldn't change the fact that I've already done everything CoH has to offer far more times than I would ever want to. -
As I understood it, It was 'no later than' not 'it will happen this day'. That was just my impression.
-
I've had a number, and they've changed over time.
My first character(4th 50, Power Overload) was an energy/energy blaster, but I never really loved it. My first 50, my nin/dark MM and namesake was in a similar boat.
The first character I really loved was my EM/Elec brute (2nd 50, Speed Demon Shinobi). This was the character I got into pvp on, won my first tournament on, and was just in general a total beast (until they nerfed ET)
Then came my Rad/Psy defender (Psionic Shinobi) which carried me from i8-i13 pvp. This is the character I played with that got me really good at pvp, mostly by dueling with and against my friend's ice/storm controller. Won me a massive number of PvPEC tournaments on champion while I played it.
Then there was my Fortunata (Sunset Shinobi), which I made when they released the AT and carried me up to when I quit pvping shortly before i14.
Then there was the mass of my PvE toons, of which many got deleted. Favorites were always my fire/kin corr (Sanaki) and fire/cold corr (Kisaki), unarguably the most powerful powerset combinations in the game when built and played properly. Were the characters that landed me almost all of my game-wide TF speed records.
I also really enjoyed my fire/kin troller(Naota), mind/fire dom(Project NHK), ill/emp troller(Shinobi Holy Savior, short stint emping in a pvp league post i13), fire/elec (Trethen) and fire/em blasters (She no Bee), and ss/fire (Murdantix)and tw/elec brutes (Sacaen) and plant/psy dom (Apathetic Bystander/Synca (had 2 of em)) -
They did make it so people that arent VIP can send PMs, which I greatly appreciate.
-
I'm pretty content with Aion and GW2 atm (and no I don't really care that they're NCsoft games, even though I don't really like NCsoft (never really have, this just made it worse) they are still good games that I enjoy, if they pull the plug on them that is their decision. If I decide I need a break from NCsoft (or they force me to make that decision by shutting down aion or gw2) then I would probably go back to Rift. The only reason I don't play rift atm is because it has a subscription whereas aion/gw2 are f2p. I love the pvp in rift.
-
I love reading everything this guy says. True story.
-
Genesis, Mind, Vitae, Omega. My curiousity knows no bounds and it's gonna kill me if I never know what you guys had planned for these slots. Since the game is shutting down, any chance the beans could be spilled on this info?

Quote:^ this.As bad as we feel about losing the game we love, I feel worse for the Paragon Studios staff. Here's to landing on your feet, folks.
I'm rather indifferent about the game ending. Sad to see my characters be gone forever, but I don't play the game anymore anyways. However for the development team thats put so much work into the game and then essentially having the carpet ripped right out from under their feet... thats rough. -
Unsigned to all. I wouldn't support any of these.
