Came here to say essentially this.

So I knew lotro didn't have a monthly sub, but I didn't know the game itself was free. I always wanted to play it, being a huge lotr fan that I am, but I never really looked into it because I didn't want to put money into an older game.
To those that have played it: How is it? How do the graphics compare to more recent games? Is combat fluid? Is there good variety in specs/builds? How's grouping? -
no theyre specific people.

Quote:You make a number of assumptions there. First that I was talking about CO, which I wasn't (I didn't specify any game in particular). If I used the recharge I would use more energy and do less damage and hit less, so I would be weaker.
Also Champions Online, you are always attacking baddies, never waiting for an attack for even a second.
On Topic:
People that make assumptions. Oh lordy. -
Pondering if I actually want to log on or not.

Eh, I think their gem store will work out well enough. You can buy gems with real money or you can use gold ingame to buy gems. Gems are what is used in the real money store, like paragon points. You can also use gems to buy gold. I personally won't spend any real money on buying gems for any reason, but with it being relatively difficult to make gold in that game, I can see a fair amount of people dropping cash on it.
I also don't see it closing any time soon, considering GW1 is still running, that would be closed before GW2 got closed. -
Quote:I take it you never used rchg enhancements... let alone IOs. In most other games there isn't a ton you can do with the recharge of powers. In other games if a power recharges in 20 seconds, it recharges in 20 seconds and there is nothing you can do about it. Obviously there are exceptions but in general that is how it is. No other game lets you reduce the recharge on powers like you can in CoH, no where even close to what you can do in CoH.2. the slow fighting. I don't like standing around for my powers to come back.
3. recharge time for powers. Real super heroes don't need to recharge every power.
Things like Blaze recharging in under 3 seconds or Foot Stomp recharging in under 6 seconds would NEVER happen in other games. Alot of other games use auto attacks to fill in attack chains while waiting for long recharges, CoH was in a good place where it really didn't need that. TBH if long recharges was your complaint, it wasn't CoH's fault.
CoH actually deserves a bit of praise in regards to the pace of combat, especially in regards to movement. One of the big things that drew people to CoH's PvP (prior to i13) was because CoH PvP was very fast. -
I've always been relatively conflicted with ncsoft. On one hand they put out pretty amazing games. I've thoroughly enjoyed aion, gw2, and obviously CoH. But on the other hand after the game comes out and it comes down to interacting with their support team in any way, or just in general how ncsoft handles customer service with the playerbase as a whole, it's just terrible, absolutely terrible.
I guess it's kind of why I don't mind paying for the game, because the game itself is usually awesome and well developed, but I don't really consider paying monthly subs worth it anymore, because IMO, if I'm giving em 15 a month or whatever it happens to be, I should have access to decent quality customer service, for when there is something wrong with the service they are providing and I am paying for. -

Quote:Try being patient? You even said it yourself. They JUST started doing refunds today.Gmail comes up with "Hooray, no spam here!". Also I have 2 different email accounts as far as support goes and neither have had anything sent to them.
Edit:
Checked the spam filters on the web versions of both email providers as well for any trace of spam. Nothing.
Edit 2:
The last web mailing I got from NCsoft for the Market was Aug 21st (Nature Affinity), the last email from NCsoft support (petition) was September 11th, the last 4 serial codes applied were on Aug 31st (a bunch of the costume codes). -
I've been hearing this game come up alot lately. Does it have a monthly fee?
-
Does pre i13 pvp count? >_> (feature)
If not, Energy Transfer, and if not ET, Psychic Shockwave. -
WoW is likely the only MMO still out that I will never touch. Ever.

Quote:As boring as humans are, they also don't shoehorn you into very specific predesigned racial lore/backstory/concept as much as certain other races do.Charr are a little behind (but not as much as you might expect) which could be due to the horrible and random lag in the Black Citadel, or the bug that prevented Charr from completing the tutorial for, like, the first day. Followed by Asura and Sylvari in equal measures, then a small peak for Norn and a gigantic peak for humans. I guess people really like boring farmland and doing chores.
I can't for the life of me get into a charr character because of freakishly ugly they are, nor do I like techy backgrounds. I like Asura mostly just because they are tiny, but otherwise they have serious customization issues and I would have much preffered Skritt anyways as a tiny race. Norn and Sylvari are alright IMO, but I can see people not liking them too.
WTB Skritt as playable race. Kodan and Hylek would be cool too, or better yet just more customization on existing races. -
Herding sheep on itrials.
Knockback.
Kheldians.
MMs.
Tanks.
Slow people.
People that call powersets top tier competitive just because they personally like it.
Thorn Isle.
Shadow Shard (sans the Faathim TF).
Hero Respec trials.
The respec process in general (if you want to strip your toon you have to do it 8 times, herp derp)
Post i13 pvp.
Tip Missions.
A certain blue ego.
New Hollows (old hollows was better)
Issue release rate (waiting 3-4 months (or more) for new issues was terrible at times)
NCsoft. -
If this had happened a few years ago when I was still really into this game I would have been upset, and while CoH is still something special to me, being my first MMO, I moved on long before this happened.
TBH it bothers me more what they did to the paragon studios team than what they did to the playerbase, though neither group of people deserved what happened. -
-
Considering they answered part of the question, it's just disappointing they didn't answer it fully. They said what Genesis would do, despite it not being a lore question, so saying they didn't answer the rest of it because it's not a lore question is a silly response.
-
They dodged answering what would the new incarnate powers would have been (sans genesis)
-
My first character got deleted long ago. I could probably, mostly, recreate him though.

Good article, was very interesting to read.
Quote:This is the big thing that's been going through my head for a while. They pretty much signed CoH's death certificate with what they did and how they did it, there's not much of anything you can do to save coh when NC took such an extreme approach right off the bat.If they were willing to sell, they probably wouldn't have fired all of our devs.
The efforts people have been putting out have been great, and NC is getting explosive bad publicity, which is good after what they did, but as far as actually "saving coh" which is what alot of people have been trying to do, well, CoH just won't be CoH without the dev team we have, and they can't just wait to see if we're successful in any of our efforts to actually save coh, they have families to support and need new jobs. -
