  1. Oh, even though it didn't work in combat, when I chose AR and BS for the powersets, it let me choose custom weapons for each in the costume creator.
  2. I wanted to follow up on this with an update. Raging Bear's suggestion to go to MA for the attacks worked. I had some friends help me test, and if you get far enough away fast enough, the mobs *will* go back to assault rifle. Also, sleeping them (and perhaps holding them, needs more testing) will get them back into rifle mode where they will fire off one or more shots before closing to melee again.

If a player flies or hovers up out of reach, however, the mob will attempt to close by climbing trees, etc, and will eventually run off. I lost track of the ones that did that, so am not sure how long it takes for them to reset into rifle mode.

One thing I notice last night was that if a player is surrounded by mobs, the soldier would stay back at range, using the rifle, until the other mobs were defeated, then close to melee range.
  3. What you can do is, make a custom group, make your special Bone Daddy, then import regular Skulls into your custom group.
  4. I am using /ninja on low to give hide and reflexes to some AR "snipers", and while it provides a NICE surprise the first time you encounter it, I'm not finding them overly hard to walk up to and punch their faces in.
  5. Yeah, without some more good outdoor maps (specifically a jungle map for me) I'm just teaching myself how to make custom mobs and learning to place items and tasks for now. I doubt I"ll publish until Issue 15 (if I haven't lost interest again.)
  6. Well, what happens is I pick AR first, then on the second power set anything that uses two hands is greyed out, but none of the single-handed weapons sets are. Of course, all the non-weapon attack sets are still there as well.

Pep, it sounds like you did the same thing I was trying to do, just perhaps not with weapons sets. I chose melee as preference, then AR, then BS.

The idea was that when they aggroed, they wouldn't be in melee range, so they'd use a ranged attack, then their preference for melee would pull them into melee range. If the player got out of melee range, the idea being they'd pull the rifle out again.
  7. Hmm, that may be it. I assumed that since it let me do so, it would work. That's what I get for taking anything for granted.

Guess I'm just going to have to make a mix of ranged and melee mobs. That would have been so cool if it'd worked.
  8. Might have been the ever-popular detention field that everyone was using that got yoinked. When you republish, it uses another animation.
  9. I'm getting the sinking feeling that this is going to be bug-fixed and updated as often as bases are...

    Arson?

I was hoping we could get access to the "arson" side missions in the mayhem missions (which are by FAR my favorite thing to do redside.)
  11. Dr_Occult

    Arson?

Can we make arson missions? I'd love to have a mission where you set fire to a rivals' warehouse/hideout and take them out as they try to escape the flames.

It would be awesome as pie to have the arson flames damaging players and mobs
  12. The Nerva Primera(?) map is gone as of this morning. Only Nerva mpa left is Fountain.
  13. Here's the scenario:

I wanted a custom mob that would open with Assault Rifle when aggroed, then close to melee range and use a bayonet in hand-to-hand (aka Broadsword). So, I picked "melee" as combat preference, selected Assault Rifle as primary powerset, and Broadsword as secondary.

(Note that these are supposed to be cannon fodder- dangerous cannon fodder, but not too hard to take down before they tear you up. The Lts and bosses are the ones that are going to finish you off after you're softened up.)

Anyhow, what happens is that the mob, once aggroed, runs up, gets in my face, and... looks at me crossly while in a fighting stance.

    Is what I'm trying impossible?
  14. I just finished testing a mission with custom mobs with Assault Rifle and the minions did NOT have M30 Grenade listed in the editing screen or in the mission.
  15. Wow, I want to see some of THOSE arcs!

One of the big reasons I stopped playing redside is that it felt like Blueside Two.
  16. Hmm, I need to go back and check. I thought minions only got up to Shotgun on regular difficulty. Are you making your minions on Hard?
  17. Most of the complaints are regarding the sub-20 game, so the majority of that post is irrelevant to most of the discussion. In fact, the POINT is to skip the tedious low level stuff that anyone who had been here a decent amount of time has seen so often that they can quote the contact dialog, and GET to the point where things start branching out.

I only see a few people here wanting "insta-50s", and those are veteran players who already know how to play a toon. The Paragon Westboro Church crowd here are flipping out that they might possibly, one day, group with a PLed noob, which will of course destroy the game FOREVER for them.

When you people start paying for everyone's subscriptions, THEN you can dictate how others play. That, or go build your own game like Emmert originally did, so he could dictate how everyone plays while taking their money.

A view of the subscription history of this game shows how well THAT worked out. Even EVE has double the subscribers as this game. That's shocking, and should be a cause for concern at NCsoft that something considered a niche game, with arguably less operating and development expense, is kicking their butt.

    Doc Delilah?

Awesome, thanks. And her being a Magic contact makes it even more fitting.

(I may still wait until I15 to publish arcs though, hoping a lot of stuff is fixed.)
  19. Cannon = big gun mounted on a carriage or chassis.

Canon = "official" story or history.

They gave us potatoes. It's OK to make french fries instead of hash browns, but making vodka is forbidden.

    Bann Criteria

Or, they could be players from long ago who were lured into giving NCsoft their money once again, only to return and find dev behavior indistinguishable from Jack Emmert's.

Just saying perhaps the substance of his observation could be discussed, rather than falling into pedantry.

Well, the pace of "normal" levellling in CoH is a very slow grind

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am going to laugh at you now. It's nothing personal.

Someone above hit the point, which one would hope NCsoft will see as well:

Rapid advancement (be it Farming, or Double XP or whatever) increases subscriptions, which increases revenue. ED and other experience-decreasing measures shrink subscriptions, and therefor revenues.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not really. I'd much rather play a game where I reach level 20 in two months of great fun than one wher I'm level 1000 by the end of the week but there's nothing to do.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't consider running Hollows missions for the 57th time "great fun."

Flashbacks now fix the problem of "if I take this contact, I will outlevel this other contact before I'm finished with this arc", and so gives us more content that was previously locked out due to mandatory choices. AE will give us more content on an almost daily basis, so there is never "nothing to do."

for me, slower leveling times = frustration = unsubscription. I started this game in early beta, and have unsubscribed at least a half dozen times since then for varying lengths of time. I will say that twice, I resubbed for a double XP weekend, but then unsubbed a month or two later from the boredom of grinding an alt through the same missions I've run for the last 5 years.

I also get very frustrated spending months (because I don't play every day) getting a character to the late teens-to- 20 only to find that I really don't like it after all. For example, I've leveled 3 or 4 BS scrappers to the high teens/low 20s with different secondaries, trying to find one that had a playstyle I liked. I've deleted each one, after them languishing for months.

I took this opportunity to dust off and level a BS/shield scrapper that I mothballed two weeks after shields came out. I didn't level him all the way up, but I *did* level him up to where I'd quit previous times, then stopped.

There are so many power combinations and concepts one can try in this game, that there is always something new to try out. Doing the "lowbie grind" for the 100th time is NOT entertaining. I think the devs realize this, else they would have killed the AP sewer teams. IMO, the AE farms were nothing more than an extended sewer team.
  23. He's denying nothing of the sort. He's only saying the devs' heavy-handed "fix" has broken his arc.
  24. Your comeback only makes sense if they stopped trying to improve cars, and no one offered feedback on how to make them better.
