You know what I got for staying subscribed for 36 months to WoW?
Nothing, nudda, zip, sweet bupkiss.
I got a non-combat pet from blizzard in the mail for the 5 year anniversery and that was it, never recieved anything else.
MOST big name MMOs don't offer veterans rewards, what they do offer are often the 'once in a lifetime' ingame events that are the same as CoH anniversary badges, you miss them and that's it...can't take part in them ever again.
Imagine if the Rikti raids that came with Issue 10 were it, nobody could earn the accolade anymore, so unless you were there at the release of Issue 10, tough luck...that kind of event. -
Not going to quote the wall of text above me (seriously man, break it up into paragraphs, you made some good points but people won't read the wall of text) but there is a point in there.
You know what I'd get behind? A paid for 'Badge Transfer' option that lets you transfer your badges from one character to another...the one you transfer off of has all their badges completely stripped, they're reset to nothing, nudda, zip, they ain't keeping them badges!
The transfer target gets all the badges given to him along with any unlocks those badges grant.
It's a great way to strip some of those 'hard to get' badges from characters you don't play anymore to ones who would find it more useful OR like above use it to grant all the badges to a new remade version of an old character where you didn't like their secondary/primary. -
Quote:"Oh no, I'm kind of a fan of all of them, I was just going to follow you to see where you went, I'll try not to 'geek out' if we someone really famous like Statesman or Back Alley Brawler..."
Shifting her hands into the back pockets of her comfortable cargo trousers she glanced around the convention hall, hazel eyes scanning the bright costumes and tables adorned with action figures, DVDs and comics. "Do you have a favourite hero you really want to see? I can accompany you get their autograph, maybe get one of my own if it's someone I'm a fan of" She rattled off. Talking to a toaster wasn't overly strange to her, the notion of hunting out autographs of people she'd possibly have to fight in the field one day however did sit oddly with her.
Terrance let out what can only be described as a cross between a chuckle and a schoolgirl giggle. -
The only real mention of this is that that Crab Spiders are basically SWAT teams but that's about all I know.
Quote:From paragonwiki and the Crab spider info box.Crab Spiders function much like SWAT teams in other cities, and are dispatched to deal with high-level threats like super-types. They're equipped with full body armor, larger weapons and a set of mechanical spider arms that turn them into death-dealing machines. -
The vet rewards are a token 'thank you for continuing to play this game' they're not a 'you've spent X amount of money here have something awesometastic'!
Besides atleast you GET something...some of the later rewards are a costume change token and a freespec.
And why aren't you complaining about the Greek Letters chest emblem...they're truly attrocious...almost nobody uses them and they're kind of a let down afte trenchcoats. -
Quote:One of those nutjobs right here...before I quit WoW I had over 75 non-combat pets and I went to some extreme lengths to get the rare ones...grinding for days on end in certain spots.
You are aware that many MMOs have non-combat pets, available in a multitude of ways, and they are quite often very popular? I know people who play WoW who have 50+ different non-cambat pets.
The worst one was 5 hour grind for three day solid in a team of three people...but by god did I finally get my pirate hat and pirate parrot at the end of it...and a nifty achievement + title when they added them in. -
Even on the MUCH quieter EU servers from 11am (when people should be at work...I'm on holiday and because I can't afford to go anywhere nice...at home..just needed two weeks off work) this morning I got invited to teams, perhaps being a defender helped but I still got invited when people should be at work/school.

eh so I misspelled a word, it happens...atleast I'm not hating people that have no affect on my life whatsoever...go you...
Edit:
Ok you know what, going to rant now.
Seriously, whatever happened to just ignoring parts of society you didn't like? I freaking HATE *****, they're biggotted upstarted little pieces of **** with the average intelligence of a shoe. You know what I do, I don't involve myself with them. So you hate furries, outside of the internet the chances of you actually meeting a furry, especially one dressed up and shouting it from the rooftops is probably very slim. Most of this 'furry hate' seems to be because it's 'cool' to hate them, the way it use to be cool to hate nerds and geeks, which you can make fun of here because that's what we all are, if you weren't nerdy you wouldn't be playing an MMO that wasn't world of warcraft.
Just ignore them if they make you that freaking angry...don't speak to them, ignore whatever it is about them that gets up in your grill and walk away...
/rant off -
wow that actually makes you look even more like a moron...congradulations *slow clap*
Edit: In order to keep the discussion on track...about the only thing wrong with CoH currently to my tastes is the lack of map diversity AND the old pre-faultline/striga content. -
Quote:Oh god the '*click*...ok that's cryo...didn't want that...*click*..that's fire...I wanted toxic...*click* FINALLY'
The Change Ammo power had this lame push-swap-push-swap-push-swap function rather than the cool toggles it has now.
And it took what was it, over 10 seconds to cycle through them all, 2 second recharge and a 2 second animation time...
...oh and it didn't stick around when you zoned either so you had to go through the whole thing again each time you entered a mission... -
Quote:Amy smiled and shook the offered hand, "It will be a pleasure."Portia held her autograph book tight in her left hand as she offered her right. "I look forwards to talking to you." she said in closing.
She looked over the shoulder of Portia and had completely forgotten about the queue building behind her.
"Oooh sorry hun probably going to have to part ways here...they look like they're getting rowdy..." -
-
Quote:Amy grinned widely, "of course...though I am a genetically engineered cat person as opposed to those that are born this way naturally so I fear you may be disappointed in that regard but I shall go more into my origins whenever you wish to set a date..."Her grin could get no wider as she read the message and she fought her gleeful snigger down. She had maybe another minute and she was aware of the queue behind her, so she dived in with her pitch.
"Thank you so so much for this ma'am," she said. "And I know this is kindof cheeky of me to ask, but if your agent would let you, could I ask for maybe an hour of your time another day to talk to you about yourself? It's for a project of mine about felis origins."
Her tail took on a question-mark shape of expectancy as she waited for the bigger feline's answer, one ear doplaring round to aknowledge the presence of the waiting line of metafans.
Amy swiped one of Georgies business cards from his pocket much to his annoyance and scribbed down her cell phone number.
"There we go, I'm free most of the time, tomorrow perhaps?"
Several metafans looked on with wide eyed envy at the catgirl infront of them...she probably had no idea how many of them would want Amy's number. -
Quote:Hmm normally it's two weeks for closed beta, two weeks for open beta then a live release.i17 Closed Beta is on test now afaik?
So open beta will be a week or so off yet no doubt.
So that's still not long and puts us in the first two weeks or so of April IF that's the case. -
Quote:Unfortunately for Georgie the display was not a well rehearsed act...she would be having stronger words with her Agent later in private."Make it 'To Dr. Carr' if you can please, ma'am," she replied feeling very near star-struck.
Portia realised she was staring and folded her hands patiently in front of her stomach, her smile broadly displaying her partly feline teeth.
She smiled and signed the autograph book, 'To Dr. Carr, don't let their preconceptions about our kind ever get you down, stay strong and continue the good work, hugs and kisses Amy Zon.'
Amy was 'built' different to most catgirls, Amy was built more akin to a big cat such as a lion or tiger than the slim cheetha like build of most catgirls, toned but not overly muscular. She smiled as she handed the autograph book back, "there we go Doctor, as the note says, keep up the good work..."
It was nice to see another real catgirl in this place, not just someone with fake ears and a tail. -
Quote:"Oh I wouldn't want to be a bother, you're probably busy trying to get autographs of your own...I mean if you're going to a heroes booth then sure I'll come with you, this place is huge...I wouldn't know where to start!""It is fairly crowded though, so if you want any help or company getting around, I could do that"
Terrance was as chipper as ever, his voice having slightly electronic undertones to it, there was so much to do here and certainly not enough time to do everything...he decided to just follow his new friend and try not to make a nuisance of himself.

Quote:She didn't need to find a higher vantage point to spot the towering figure of Amy Zon looming over the heads of everyone around her, so she slipped through the crowd and made a beeline for Amy's table.
Reaching it, she had a little wait before the fans before her had their keepsakes and it was with a cheery smile she reached the front.
"Hey there," she opened with her tail behind her betraying her excitement. "May I have your autograph ma'am?"
Her agent gave her a nudge and she looked at him with sigh.
"I'm NOT charging for my autograph...I don't care how many times you say it Georgie...there's tons of other things for fans to spend their money on...an autograph should not be one of them..."
She turned back to Portia, "sorry about that...agents...always thinking about their cut of the profits first and common human decency second..." -
Quote:Wow that is an AWESOME costume Samuel...definitely see the Tali resemblence...not sure about Positron but she definitely looks like Tali...As per my style of ripoff creating original content, my Dual Pistoleer is a cross between Mass Effect's Tali'Zora and our very own Positron, with a look that's largely inspired by Torchlight's Vanquisher, who herself had a look inspired by Warcraft's Muradin and his dwarves. I made a couple of posters of her back in Beta and I'll be damned if I don't plug them in at every opportunity I get.
-
Agreeing with Samuel above, Jack took a lot of heat very quickly, every time he opened his mouth he seemed to be putting his foot in it.
Positron's only 'ill-recieved' moment was his rather ranty post on the AE farming which came across as throwing his toys out of the pram however a second, slightly better toned and reworded post settled down most of the uproar caused by that.
War Witch is a 'player's favorite' especially amongst the EU players because she was one of the only Devs to actually come to this side of the pond during an NCsoft specific event being run by our now defunct community team. She's usually the one to attend conventions and shows, she, as Sam put it 'has a silvered tongue' in that she knows how to talk to people. -
awww and here I was thinking it was going to be a post along the lines of...
"there's the sound of gunshots everywhere, avoid Atlas, it sounds like a warzone!" -
bah too late Hickman...you lost out on your Terrahawks boxset...
-
Quote:This...oh god this...
One being the Real Numbers we now have; under Jack he refused to release anything going near Real Numbers, because as he said he wanted the game to be friendly to everyone, number crunching Min/Maxers and Casual Players alike, and the addition of Real Numbers would exclude the Casual Player by making him feel inferior and/or confused, and thus leave the game.
In both CO and STO the lack of real numbers actually makes things even more confusing than if there were proper numbers and descriptions about what powers affected what, how the power worked beyond a vague description. Jack (and thus Cryptic) seem to have this love affair with being...well..cryptic when it comes to abilities and it's so far been on the major complaints on every review site about both CO and STO. -
Quote:His audio receptors picked up the compliment and spun around to seek out it's owner...spotting Becky through the crowd he very carefully maneuvers his way over to Becky.
"That, is an impressive balance job on the anti-grav" She intead noted aloud with a bright smile as she watched the toaster curiously.
"Oh thank you miss, they can be a bit hard to stablize at times but you learn fast..." He held out a small mechanical hand for her to shake.
"My name is Terence, are you a superhero? can I have your autograph? I get so nervous around people..." -
*flails arms and screams*
Dear almighty will someone let us know what's going on...someone...anyone!
Hmm...does Hickman know...can I summon him...
Hickman!
Hickman!
Hickman!
You're the only red name I know how to summon...can you tell us anything?
There's a complete DVD boxset of Terrahawks in it for you... -
Quote:From what I can tell all the experienced dev team (not just the freem 15 but most of the other staff involved with CoH) jumped ship to NCsoft which meant that he was left with a bunch of new hires for replacements. Since Jack liked CoH back when it was 'his game' and liked that way of gaming he ended up making the very same mistakes he made with the first release of CoH and there was nobody experienced enough to question his descisions.Pretty much what's been said already. Unfortunately it didn't help that he's aimed some very snooty comments at CoX since he began work on Champions Online, which have been somewhat undermined by him making the very same mistakes on that project as well.
He had a tendency to listen to nobody but himself, and learn very little as a result.
Jack then fell into what I like to call the 'Peter Molyenux lead developer trap' how he would go on and on about how awesome his game was going to be, how it would be the best thing since sliced bread and made a LOT of promises...
...unfortunately like old Peter M. most of those promises he couldn't keep or they didn't pan out the way he said they would. -
Quote:This...NCsoft is smart enough to think of something like that. Infact it was probably one of the first things they thought of.Pure speculation, but I wouldn't worry about this. NCSoft, would probably have licensed the use of the engine for City of Heroes in perpetuity for just this reason.
CO was an uncertainty...if it tanked and tanked HARD (like it was such a failure they had to shut it down within the first six months aka Tabula Rasa...) then Cryptic would have probably been dumped by Atari and gone into liquidation, this was a very real possibility at the time of the NCsoft purchase.
I imagine NCsoft actually have 'first dibs' on owning the CoH engine if Cryptic do go into liquidation and lets face it...they're probably more of a force to reckon with than Atari especially thanks to the big success of Aion out east (they launched at a time when WoW was suffering major problems in China to the point where the servers had been shutdown due to fighting over who had the rights to run the game so that netted them a sizeable chunk...was 3 million people at the time IRC).
Atari meanwhile has been facing financial difficulties for quite some time (almost all their games have been poorly recieved and sold poorly, they have a bad reputation among gaming circles unfortunately) and the speculation is that the company is only just about treading water. They needed STO to be a big hit but that looks somewhat unlikely due to the rushed release (the game is fun but is basically half finished) so the future of Atari isn't really certain itself.
However Atari's situation is merely financial speculation at the moment.
