  1. Amy shook her head as the pulse stunned her senses for a moment. She regained her sense and watched on...there was little she could do but wait, she was sure the other heroes more suited to delicate hostage situations were already doing something...As Amy lacked any 'items of power' she handed nothing over.

Terrance meanwhile clattered to the floor, there was a small beeping sound as his system begun a reboot. Everything was functioning fine thankfully. Terrance decided to go into 'stealth mode' folding in his arms, legs and his anti-grav engines, keeping his feet unfolded to allow him to shuffle along the floor, weaving in and out of the crowd of people. It was all very Metal Gear Solid just with a tiny toaster, edging himself closer to the stage...

Hell yes you do...infact I have 50 mini-bottles of champagne lined up on double XP weekends and pop one open every time I level...occasionally I have a party popper for 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50.

Unfortunately this does cause the early levels to become a drunken blur...
  3. Replaced Dr Creed with Vernon von Grun and I'd be sooo happy.

Vernon Von Grun...you make my day...keep it up you pinnacle of mad science you...
  4. And there's another episode of City of Heroes: The animated series written...

Seriously Steelclaw, give it a bit more backstory for the lead up to what caused the two to fight and make it into script format, you'd have yourself Desdemona's introduction episode right there...

Oh and keep up on the Deus Ex War Witch , she needs to be the new Blue Steel!
  5. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing the nukes and shivans decreased in power if they were moved to PvE rewards from a repeatable PvE task because, as you said, it would only be fair due to the removal of the PvP threat.

Cut the nuke buffs/debuffs/damage in half and reduce the Shivan from an Elite Boss down to a Boss (you can already get a repeatable boss summon from flashbacking to one of the Striga arcs so there is a precedent for it). That still makes them fairly significant, especially as a team of 8 is MORE likely to have them if they're PvE rewards than they are with the current version.

I did not say to remove PvP zones entirely but merely strip out everything PvE related (that includes the non-base guarding NPCs except the base turrets in RV) so people have absolutely no excuse to say "but I was only in there to get badges/farm!" because there would be nothing in there to farm and the only badges to get would be the exploration badges or the PvP focused badges (which capturing Pill boxes and controlling Heavies would come under since they are part of the PvP 'game' of that zone)...which are fairly easy to get even with a roving band of PvPers around.

Is that a bit overboard? Perhaps but it would show whether PvP zones were enough to stand on their own two feet without anybody being lured in there by other means, a pure PvP experience, which, I assume, is what all the PvPers want yes?
  6. Personally I'd be MORE than happy for them to strip the RV heroes/villains of their badges and give them to any spawn of that hero in any other mission. Any defeat of Mynx nets you her special badge, collect them all and you get the accolade.

But hey, what do I know, when I suggested stripping out all the NPC mobs from PvP zones someone went "you would ruin my farming!" Yes because farming is the key point of PvP zones...not...you know...PvP...which is what the zones should be there for not for someone to farm (despite the fact there are far better places to farm in the game especially with the new difficulty options).

Seriously strip out all the PvE stuff from PvP zones except the exploration badges. The enemy mobs, The nukes, the Shivans, the AV/Hero badges, everything.

Trying to lure PvE people into a PvP zone NEVER works, it just annoys both parties, one because the large majority of people coming into the zone aren't there to PvP and the other because they just want to get their Shivans/nukes/badges and get out again.

I expect to hear cries of, "but that would kill PvP!" Would it...now you've got a pure PvP experience, nobody would ever moan at you, send you tell asking you to stop PvPing, everybody in those zones would be there for one purpose and one purpose only...to PvP.

If the lack of PvE people being lured into PvP zones actually did kill PvP stone dead...well then PvP wasn't going to stand up on it's own anyway...and if it really isn't worth the time, turn the zones into competative PvE zones with their own storyline, trainers and stores, leave the Arena for the few remaining dedicated PvPers. However I doubt that stripping all the PvE elements out of PvP zones would kill it...
  7. Neither of you are at fault...

You were just doing what the zone was designed for, he was there for the 'lure in the PvEr into PvP badges'. The Giant monster level AVs in RV are incredibly annoying with the new PvP settings as well since there is no 'mez protection' anymore just mez resistance.

The fault here lies with the devs for having PvE mechanics which reward badges in a PvP zone. Badges for capturing Pillboxes...sure, Badges for controlling heavies...fine, badges for having to beat down a GM level foe while still trying to PvP...very, very bad idea.
  8. Well since someone Summoned Golden Girl I'm guessing you were summoned.

Perhaps Golden Girl is the anti-Hickman, the beast that shall live among us and rule us for a thousand years of darkness and only you, Troy Hickman, can defeat her.

You must journey to the active volcano of Moriumdor, retrieve the throwing disc known as the glaive, travel to the widows web, where an ancient maiden guarded by a giant spider will tell you when the Golden Girl fortress will be. Then you must catch the fire mares who are the only mounts able to travel fast enough to reach the Golden Girl fortress.

Once inside you must destroy Golden Girl with the power of the Glaive and only then can we be free from her tyranny.

Help me Troy Hickman...you're my only hope...

I don't know what to tell you honestly, other than I hope you find what makes you happy one day.
    This.

WoW = 40 different kinds of Boar, different skins, heck even some of the Raid bosses are tweaked and then put out as new models (Ragnaros model was tweaked to create the end boss of a 5 man dungeon in Burning Crusade, Maxxena the giant spider in Naxxramas was used as a new normal spider model in Burning Crusade).

So even the mighty WoW with all their dev team recycle mobs and they do it A LOT (Boars, Wolves, Giant Spiders, Raptors, Crabs...heck any 'animal' tends to be recycled).
  10. Hmm you know I never thought of that.

Recluse allows things to be said against him because he wants to look good, yes I'm not entirely sure the Rogue Isles are considered a soverign state by the UN but he's still a little collection of islands compared to the United States of America. He still needs to present atleast an outwardly decent look. Heck if his citizens were treated too badly they would just probably leave en masse, don't care how high tech your weapons are or how many faceless goons you have, if a lot of people want to do something and are willing to run through gunfire to do it, then you're not going to be stopping them.
  11. Also the smashing/lethal sets tend to either hit incredibly hard or have other options available.

Warmace/Waraxe/Broadsword hit very slowly but hit like a freight train meaning even decent Smashing/Lethal resists only do so much. Dual Blades and Katana hit lightly but very quickly which means they can deal out enough damage quick enough that the S/L resists aren't too much of a bother.

Assault Rifle/Archery has non-S/L using attacks (blazing Arrow/Flamethrower etc.), Dual Pistols can switch ammo types.

Almost every mob resists S/L but only upto a medium degree but nothing except most AVs resist it a lot (still annoyed that the invulnerable using AVs get 100% resistance to smashing/lethal when unstoppable, no mob should resist a damage type 100% even AVs). Psi is the reverse, virtually nothing, including most AVs, resist Psi damage but the mobs that do resist it, resist it quite heavily.
  12. Well yes obviously the Resistance = heroes and Praetorian guard = villains.

But in order to be free the Resistance are going to have to do some drastic things, picture blowing up Cole monuments, institutions such as the hospital mentioned. There is still room for a morally grey area. Yes you can be doing good but some of the stuff you have to do won't go down well.

Also the Resistance are technically 'well intentioned Extremists' and in any group like that you're going to get people who don't really care about 'the cause' and only there because it allows them to do things like shoot a cops or blow up buildings.

So you kind of missed my original point, I wasn't saying that the Resistance was evil just that while the Resistance goal in general is a good thing and most Resistance members are 'fighting for the cause', you're going to get a few people of a certain violent nature taking advantage of the Resistance views in order to just blow crap up.

People who are bloodthirsty enough that the players are left to wonder if a crushing dictatorship might not be so bad, if only because the only other current option is rampant crime, war, and bloodshed. So now we get the profile of Calvin Scott, the leader, face and symbol of the Resistance...

...who's most evil act on record is that he wants to rescue the woman he loves.

For crud's sakes, the line between good and evil is now officially clearer in Praetoria than it is on Primal Earth. I'm not even kidding, the description I'm reading on this guy couldn't portray him more as a Hero if he had his last initial emblazoned on his chest. On one side, we have "Tear down the Evil Overlord, save the damsel, free the people" and the other is "Rule the world, crush all freedom and slaughter thousands". How is any of this going to appeal to the 'morally gray' nature that is supposed to lead to side switching? This is about as gray as choosing between "frolicking with unicorns" and "selling your soul to Satan".
I'm getting the feeling that the Resistance is going to get the 'heroes' to do things that in Primal earth basically mean terrorism. One mans Freedom Fighter is another mans terrorist after all.

Keep in mind that the Resistance would attract exactly the same sort of people that the Freakshow attracts on Primal Earth, guys and gals angry at the system, tired of being 'put down' and more than willing to just blow stuff up as a stress release. The only difference is that the Resistance has something to aim at which does need to be bought down while the Freakshow just have 'society' to aim at which has usually done them no wrong.

So while the head honcho may be all about saving his woman, I can quite easily picture other Resistance contacts being about blowing up buildings under the pretense that they're trying to free people but actually just enjoy blowing stuff up.
  14. Here's a random tip to make money on the market!

People will pay through the nose to have stuff 'now', this extends to getting IOs pre-crafted, infact some set IOs double in price once they're crafted. Most of the uniques cost a hell of a lot more crafted than recipe form. the Numia unique is around 60 million recipe, crafted it's 80 million + (last time I checked).

Even if you get all the salvage at the 'buy it now' price you're still making a lot of profit.

If you really want to get rich it's probably best to summon Nethergoat.

This is one of the few MMOs where I've seen players post guides on how to get rich using the market. In WoW making profit off the auction house is usually a fiercely guarded secret due to the intense competition for each 'niche' in the market. Infact you'll often find niches dominated by one or two people.

Ah I didn't mean people who PL their own characters, I meant people paying a company to level for them while they work/sleep.

If you can PL your own characters then more power to you, atleast one of your characters is actually doing some work as opposed to none of your characters doing the work and you not even being at the computer.
  16. While NCsoft can never 'win the war' against RMTers, as long as there are people who are lazy, there will be powerlevelling and RMT.

However they do seem to slowly getting there.

The big RMT sites, don't even bother with City of Heroes. Why would they when they can make a vastly larger sum of money focusing on World of Warcraft. Gold is a lot harder to come by in WoW than Inf is in CoH. It's only the little and significantly more risky websites that deal with CoH (ones more than likely to use account info/credit cards) that dabble with CoH.

It takes one or two lucky drops (one purple recipe or two of the 'in demand' taskforce/trial recipe rolls) for a player to outfit their character in all but the most expensive stuff and by expensive I'm talking about Purples or Luck of the gambler uniques.

Last email I got kind of showed they kind of getting despeate, offering a billion inf for around about 10 bucks, if they need THAT much inf to actually turn a decent profit then they're really getting kind of desperate.

That's only on the US, they've all but given up on the EU side of things, the last email I recieved about RMT was about 4-5 months ago.

2: Merge the markets. That is all. The journey is less fun when you can't get the stuff that makes it more fun because there is no one selling.

3: Old, half-finished content is abandoned rather than being expanded upon. I would rather have more Shadow Shard or Dark Astoria content than another new zone full of <insert shiny new enemy that will be either farmed or avoided entirely>.
    1. Is being fixed in Going Rogue apparently.

    2. Agreed, I really just don't understand why there is this huge dev resistance to merging the makets, the reasons they've given so far are kind of rubbish (one being "oh it'll make things more expensive for villains"...erm...no...if villains have access to the same supply/demand as heroes then surely they'll be able to earn more inf per transaction anyway?). It just seems like the devs are keeping it seperate because...I got nothing...

    3. The major fault of the outgoing administration aka Positron was that he was incredibly focused on "NEW AND SHINEY!" to a level that was facepalm inducing. He's now been put on the team for the NEW AND SHINEY! Endgame content while Melissa has moved into the lead dev position. I Honestly wouldn't be surprised if the Positron TF revamp was her doing.

Several times it's been explained that "New and shiney is great, it really is...but there's a crapload of stuff that is either:
    A) Just plain awful: Most heroside content pre-CoV (post CoV it vastly improves).

    B) Been left to rot: Boomtown, Shadow Shards (just make it Co-op), Dark Astoria."

Just a few examples. We don't need a crapton of new zones, we just need the zones we do have reworked to be decent, putting gold leaf over a turd doesn't make it any less a turd. Putting more new and shiney zones and TaskForcess in doesn't make the old, zero content hazard zones or shockingly boring and overlong TaskForces look any better...
  18. Can anyone see this as being one of the humour episode for a City of Heroes: The animated series?

You know, the same kind of vibe as the Teen Titans cartoon but focuses on the Freedom Phalanx.
  19. Gah don't confuse me like that.

Here in the land of Blighty our clocks don't go forward at ALL yet.

March 28th is when British Summer Time kicks in and our clocks go forward.
  20. Quote:
While that's true as an option for the Architect, I'm unaware of any actual developer-made missions that use this, outside of specific unique tasks like the 5th Column TF, and that's just as likely coded with specifics, rather than "just ramp down."
One mission I know uses this heroside is the 'defeat Atta' mission (regular story mission, not TF). It does 'ramp up' because the enemies at the front are normally -2 when you start out in the first few parts of the cave and levels up in stages from there, until the Trolls at the back are +2.

I have seen this in a few missions outside of TFs.
  21. I have an alt character that I planned to create as a project at levelling.

    Power Pool Gal.

After level 6 only taking powers from the power pools or patron power pools, she's currently level 13, went with elec/elec Brute because elec gets two fairly decent attacks from the off and also gets it's smashing/lethal resistance toggle at first level.

This was the time when the AE farming was in full swing, so the main rule was 'no farming of any kind, teams allowed but not an AE team, one of the other rule was 'complete the Cap Au Strikeforce before hitting level 20'.

I've had her since before the forum merger and she's got a lot of inf on her that I can't transfer away from her (one of the rules is that she earns what she earns, no help from any of my characters...she got really lucky and managed to get some of the more expensive low level IO recipes early on) and I've not had the heart to give up just yet.

I actually worked out a build in mids for her. Because she could take so many pool powers she actually ended up, once IO'd out, pretty dang good on the survivability stakes.
  22. I'm just a sucker for tweaking builds.

I promised myself with my Traps/Pistols defender that I wouldn't focus on set IOs, that I would just use common SOs and not even look at generic IOs.

Then I lucked out on a drop and had a shedload of inf and it all went downhill from there...

Started tweaking the build in mids and found out I could defense softcap myself to ranged damage, "awesome", I said to myself, "I'll get the expensive sets out the way and focus purely on that!"

However I lucked out with another drop, rather than just finishing off softcapping myself to range and leaving it at that I went back to mids to tweak. I found I could defense softcap myself to melee as well, "even more awesome...with tough and temp invulnerability I'm also rocking 70% resistance to smashing and lethal damage".

So it was slippery slope, now I've blown a shedload of inf and the build is so very nearly finished, just three more cheap sets, three more levels and I'm done...
  23. I'm unusually in that all the double XP weekend gives me if focus.

As in I focus in on one character I want to level. the Double XP weekend happened to fall in the last four days of my holiday (I was stuck a home since I can't afford to actually go anywhere but I also needed to use up holiday before the end of the tax year or I'd lose it, the boss told me to take the week of my Birthday off and the week after). Normally I level characters here and there (chronic altitis) but for Double XP I pick one character and level them as high as I can.

Normally if I'm working on a Double XP weekend, I'll focus a little bit more on levelling than normal but otherwise not so much but because I had free time and a Traps/Pistols defender to level I thought what the heck and went all out.

It was great fun, played with teams of vastly different level ranges from level 32 when I was level 20 to level 20 when I was level 40 (love getting XP while exemped) plus managed to run the Reichsman SF, Numia TF and Citadel TF along with doing the RWZ arcs and a LOT of random missions from Borea because the team leaders all needed shedloads of merits for unlocks.
  24. Got my Traps/Pistols defender from 16-44, friend managed to get their dual pistols blaster to 50.

Favorite moments include seeing a blaster defeat a Tsoo Sorcerer with Executioners shot from behind while saying, "Teleport THIS!" and another one teleporting in ontop of my tripmine.

I'd laid it by accident so it was too far away form the mobs to be of any use but the Tsoo sorcerer blinked into existence and the by now familiar noise of the 'beep beep beep' followed by an explosion of firey doom.

Just pictured the Tsoo looking down and going, "ooh fu-" before it went off.
  25. 100 million is quite easy to obtain.

Admittedly I got pretty dang lucky and rolled two miracle +recov uniques, first one sold for 100 million inf, the second one I got today sold for 135 million inf.

A single purple drop can cause a characters funds to skyrocket.

Most of the time I just plain don't bother with the uniques, for what benefit they offer the sale price means I can outfit a character in set IOs (that initially 100 million inf will make my traps/DP range defense softcapped).
