  1. Holy thread ressurection batman!

Still nice that someone followed the link and actually posted in it.

Still think the Giant 5th Column Mech-man would be the ideal solution for a GM of course. However something similar to a Baneblade from Warhammer 40,000 would also be suitable.
  2. yeah it's been asked for a LOT.

However given that even though she's taken over as lead dev from Positron, War Witch still has her hands to with the whole 'new and shiney' thing that Positron started off until atleast Issue 21, probably 22 since the devs plan the Issues probably atleast six months in advance, if not longer than that.

I imagine once everything is sorted for Going Rogue, which means Issue 19 which is technically 'Going Rogue: Stuff we couldn't finish in time for it' as standard ala Issue 1 for heroes and Issue 7 for villains, we'll probably start to move more towards being old content upto the standard set by Going Rogue.

So it probably wont be until atleast this time next year we'll even get an inkling of updating old content...if they're even bothering to do so.

And have the Fliers face off in the sky against a large wave of Chasers? I dunno, just something to make it FEEL like an invasion as opposed to one that feels more dead then Ghost Widow.

Also, new factions, new baddies, new areas, new missions and arcs, and a full-sized Rularuu the Ravager!
    Something like this perhaps?

Suggested a long time ago by yours truly and seemed to be a popular idea.

  5. Well the recent 'hate' thrown by the general public in a Unionverse event towards heroes, which admittedly appears to have been caused by an demon of some kind, has got me wondering.

City of Heroes really doesn't have any general 'hatred' towards those of a super powered/highly trained nature. I suppose this would come from saving America and later the world (Brass Monday and the first Rikti invasion, now we're fighting through the second), is there anyone out there who has their character face any kind of superpowered hatred, even in backstory?

In the Unionverse we have Humanity First, a villain group who hate mutants and super powers in general, which makes them fairly unique even as an NPC villain group because
Humanity First have no other player villains to actually call on because most player villains would never agree to their goals, even the tech ones. Plus, you know, hating ALL super powered people is likely to lead to a large group of villains kicking your face in while the heroes look the other way.

Anyway...enough rambling, so answer the above question, repeated again incase my ramblings distracted you, does anyone have their character face any kind of super powered hated in their backstory?

Yeah would be really nice to see him...wasn't he level 15 after all their adventures?

Who knows, he could turn up in the revamped Posi TF since it's his level range.
  7. forgive the random aside here...yes I know it's what I tend to do BUT I do have a question for all you 'evil' () marketeers.

If some or all of you did band together, a likelihood of which is slim to none, would it be fully possibly for the marketeering collective to effectively tank the prices on the market as a whole or even say specific recipes?
  8. /signed.

The power armour set of CO was done quite well and I enjoyed the look of it, I love the idea of the arm being attached to a chain, firing fists at people. Also it gives us a chance to have the Macross Missile Spam the assault bot and Malta titans have.

As an aside, what happened to ingame ads? I actually enjoyed them but now they seem to be gone.
To be fair I think the actual revenue bought about from the the ingame ads compared to what was required (they had to be fitting with the game) meant that it just wasn't cost effective for the Ad companies to advertise in CoH especially if the players can just turn off the adverts.

The first US add was a disaster (The Jetter shoe advert) and actually got more scorn because it was:
    A) A rubbish advert (just a picture of a shoe) that looked like a Jpeg picture had just been slapped over the normal adverts.

    B) Had none of the filters that were promised to be applied to the adverts (Rogue Isles adverts are all covered in a layer of grime for example, the advert looked pristine even when in a destroyed apocalyptic future enviroment aka Boomtown). Which made it REALLY stand out in a bad way.

    C) Freaking EVERYWHERE, you'd often find 4 or 5 of them all within 200 yards of each other. So it felt really overdone and in your face in a bad way.

Paragon Studios recieved a lot of schtick for that one and I remember several threads openly mocking the advert on the forums (which I suspect was one of the reasons that the adverts got pulled, people were laughing at them most of the time for being fairly ill-fitting choices). The last advert I saw was the EU 'Babylon AD' advert which showed they'd finally got it right as it actually looked like a proper poster, as to just a picture slapped over the normal advertising.

So player base backlash, a truly rubbish first example, people being able to turn them off and general mocking meant the death of adverts.
  10. Hmm I'm probably waaaay behind the times but has anyone noticed that since the reappearance of the 5th Column on the streets that the 'Broken Column' movie poster has disappeared and been replaced by 'Psychadelic heroes' poster (tagline: Two heroes with one funky purpose).

Just thought people should know if they didn't...it's the little things that keep me playing this game.
  11. Enjoyed the podcast very much.

Your chat with Dark_Respite was amusing and interesting (yes on /e alakhazamreact turning you into a dougnut or sandvich).

The Powerleveling section was very interesting and pretty much describes exactly how I feel (the 1-20 game just feels so blech at times, especially heroside, villainside has some really great arcs as you mentioned in the early levels).

With regards doorsitting it's something I'll do on characters where I kinda know how the set plays due to playing the AT to high level before (I've played Stone to 41 and I've played fire to 50, everything else is kind of inbetween those on the tankerability scale) and haven't done it in some time actually (since the SSK came in and the AE got nerfed).

Two of my characters (my stone/stone tanker and my dark/dark corruptor) were levelled during the meow farms AE crisis and because of that they're the two character who, while I have invested IOs heavily in (+runspeed bonus so she can run at 14mph while in granite and rooted), I just don't feel any connection to.

Sure I levelled my Traps/Dual Pistols defender to 48 in 4 days of Double XP BUT I felt so much more connected.

Anyway...enough of my rambling but I really enjoyed it!
  12. that's why I said it's a 'possibly' missed opportunity...I haven't played it yet so I can't say, I'm merely going by what we know...if it turns out there is options for heroics and villainy with each side...then hooray!
  13. Now I haven't played Going Rogue yet...since I'm neither a friend nor a relative of anyone at Paragon Studios (or work for them) so that's why this is a possibly missed opportunity...

    Enough rambling...let me explain.

Now we all know by now that Resistance means heroic and Emperor Cole means villainous. I personally think that there was a real opportunity to muddy the waters beyond what we've seen so far.

As there are two sides to every coin so there could have been two sides to each of the factions in Going Rogue. I'll give some examples.
    __________________________________________________ ________________________________
Heroic while working for Emperor Cole:
No, you didn't misread that. Emperor Cole and his cronies give out missions that are good PR (however they don't tell you that, they make out that you're just being heroic for heroics sake), you save civilians from an outbreak of Ghouls from the tunnels, you disarm bombs in high population areas, saving hundreds of live and deliver aid packages to those in need. To the civilians who are none the wiser of what's really going on, you're a true blue hero. You get sent on all the 'in the spotlight' missions where good looks and charisma are as important as beating a giant monster to death with your bare fists.

Even back in paragon word filters through that your 'helping the masses' and the average joe on the street who really isn't that clued in would begin/still see you as a hero despite the fact you're working for a dictator, perhaps people think you're trying to make reforms from the inside. Of course you could be 'in on it' and despite what Emperor cole and friends tell you, you know these are PR stunts but major rep boosting PR stunts at that!

Villainous while working for Emperor Cole:
You're an attack dog that's let off the chain, Cole would use you much like he does Marauder, when someone needs a violent beat down and a large warning delivered to the rebellion that he isn't going to pull any punches he'll send you. These missions are definitely of the 'black ops' variety, nobody talks about them in the papers or the PR spin merely mentions violent clashes with the 'evil resistance'.

Further down the line you're inducted into more of the inner circle, the Asylums revealed, Chimera tasks you with assassinations of major resistance figures to keep morale down. You've shown you can be brutal but now you've got to show you can be subtle as well. These assasinastions are never mentioned outside of your contacts, the people on the street don't know what you do but they know you're with Emperor Cole, however there are hushed whispers about what you really do...
    __________________________________________________ __________________________
Heroic while working for the Resistance:
Freeing the starving masses, doing generally good work, helping the homeless, taking out key military targets and generally throwing the yoke off the masses yearning to be free. It's clear you're one of the 'good guys' to the people back home, however the citizens of Praetoria may not see it that way.

Villainous while working for the Resistance:
There is one word to describe you, vicious. Paragon city AND Praetoria both see you as a terrorist, you go after highly populated targets for maximum media impact, who cares about a few innocent sheeple caught in an explosion when you destroyed an Asylum. You've poisoned aid supplies to give Emperor Cole a bad name and generally put people in harms way in your attempt to overthrow Emperor Cole, people don't matter as long as Cole and his precious utopia burn.

It's a shame they just went with 'one side good, one side evil' when there were so many more options to explore.
  14. Dr_Mechano

    Are we hated?

I'm probably one of those 'bad' MMs.

I have my pet binds set up to mirror the WoW hunter pet commmands (ctrl+1 = passive attack my target, for when you want one specific target dead or distracted but don't want to aggro a nearby mob, Ctrl+2 = aggressive attack my target for when I cut the bots loose. Ctrl+3 = Bodyguard mode, which is default mode) so I don't command pets individually but treat them as a singular entity since that's what I'm use to.

Pets only get resummoned when I'm down to one of that pet (for tier 1s) or completely wiped out (for tier 2 and 3). Having taunt, pets softcapped defenses to all, my own defenses softcapped to all and bodyguard mode makes for a mean secondary tank though.

Never had any complaints so far about me though.
  15. The WORST one I've had was freaking Nictus Romulous, not exactly a pansy by any means, take off running for the hills with Nictus in tow, every single time a debuff hit him he would go into 'FLEE!' mode.

Like, somehow, he'd just realised he'd left the oven on back home and thought, "screw this guys, I ain't burnin no muffin's I'm outta here you muffin-hatin' fools!"...

Except he was alone the whole time, and surrounded by large 5th Column spawns on every side; preaching the Council's greatness to thin air while surrounded by its rival. I think the poor guy's mind snapped when the rest of his cell went back to the 5th, and he's in denial talking to imaginary recruits. He probably goes home to his apartment and talks into his cellphone pretending that he's being given vital missions.
Once he drops the cellphone onto the bed it's revealed he's actually talking to the speaking clock, eventually he breaks down into sobs and reaches for drink...

...it's a sad life for Archon Jefferson, he's probably better off in the Zig now, where he can get some professional help...

They're primarily recon/surveillance machines. Machines. One of which complains too much about guard duty.
...the other of which is just plain fed up with the other drone's moaning about guard duty, machines that get annoyed with other machines for complaining...

...wait, that's it...you've stumbled onto why those particular Rikti Drones were operating as a pair, they're actually a couple, you destroyed a budding relationship there. Sure they were arguing about that but all couples argue, they would have gotten over it, arranged for a Rikti Drone wedding, with all their Rikti Drone friends and family in attendence, a Rikti Drone minister (with painted on priest dog collar) finally pronouncing them Rikti drone husband and Rikti drone wife...

...but no, you destroyed them, you ruined what could have been a long and happy marriage with many little Drones...oh how their friends weeped, crying out how cruel it was that such young, bountiful floaty lives could have been taken away just before their moment of happiness...

...then their thoughts will turn to anger, revenge, hatred, soon the skies shall darken with Rikti Drones, baying for blood, crying for vengence, their former masters wouldn't be able to stop the surging tide and we shall look to each other and, as the skies grow dark, say that we shall fight in the shade...
  17. yes you probably will...evil Techbot is evil afterall...
  18. Heh one of my RP characters takes meds to avoid exactly that situation. If she doesn't take meds she begins to notice the level up fireworks, the fact that trainers never eat, sleep or take breaks and questions why she has to talk to one of the established heroes in order to learn how to fire a gun when she's been doing a job which requires firearms training for years (metahuman bounty hunting) even prior to her joining the PPD.
  19. The now rather infamous

"Come on Girls, lets get them!"

From a group of Carnival of Shadows Strongmen.

Just brings to my mind the ending of blazing Saddles and makes me chuckle.

Or my other favorite mishap of a fake Nemesis saluting a Jaeger (text added by myself)
  20. Heh shout out to The Tick there.

Wasn't Arthur's battlecry "Not the face!"

Hmm how would City of Henchmen work...devs some suggestions for the different henchman ATs

Comedy henchman: You're a bumbling fool and nobody is quite sure why the boss keeps you around since you seem to screw up his schemes more often than not. However you're an affable sort of guy, heroes are less likely to attack you and will often get you to spill information while drunk in a bar, secretly they like you but they like you being a villain better, makes their job easier. On par with Sidekicks usually in their ineptitude and abilities.

The Dragon: You're second in command, you're nearly as good as a proper villain but not quite, you can beat up sidekicks with ease however (just to make you look badass). Players will have whatever they type into /local, /team or any channel when communicating with other players auto-translated into either a faux-German or faux-Russian accent. However due to your second in command status you'll also have more frequent hero interuptions during your day to day tasks, even standing at the Black market expect a costumed hero to jump out and drop kick you in the face!

Faceless goons: Damn that helmet sure is obscuring your vision isn't it? Well tough it up number 231, you're here as a delaying action for The Dragon or your boss to escape. Similar to a mastermind but the player controls 12 identical copies of himself, the player and copies are only given three powers (Brawl is an inherent but you get 'not very good a kungfu' kick, 'couldn't hit a broadside of a barn' Assault rifle and 'don't throw the pin!' grenade powers) and will always be -3 in level to Heroes and Hero players.

Jeff: All players are called Jeff, Jeffy, Jeffrington or another variation of Jeff, even if female. You're 'that guy/gal' who is in the background, the lab technication, the random guard, whatever the situation calls for. The most versatile of the Henchman ATs however switching between 'random scientist' 'IT guy' 'Lone henchman' and 'Management' builds takes 60 seconds. You have Brawl and a Pistol power and one additional power based on your current build (Random Scientist has 'Flee!' the waving your arms in the air civilian run power which makes you immune to damage as long as you're fleeing towards the exit, IT guy gets 'Complain' where he complains about all the villain tech being outdated and they should really update, chance to bore heroes into leaving you alone, 'Lone henchman' gets 'ignores obvious' which, while you're immune to fear, means that every hero counts as stealthed and your perception range is 1 foot, and Management gets 'Office politics' confuse and bamboozle the heroes with your office jargon lasts for as long as the hero can stand before punching you...)
  21. Filled it out, hope he gets enough replies for it to be useful.

Hmm thinking the Lord Winter and the new Halloween event this year were test beds for the upcoming Incarnate zone events.

If THAT is the kind of zone events they mean, then no, they're nothing like WoW raids and more akin to the public quests of WAR, they're short, sweet and to the point, fun for all the family as it were.

However I do recommend the public events 'scale' most WAR public quests are completable by one team, the more people in the area, the larger the mob spawns however.

It's when they start doing epic six hour long taskforce with bosses that require intimate knowledge of their 'move set' in order to defeat (The 'Heigan Dance' for anyone who has run through Old or new Naxx for example) and take 15-20 minutes by themselves to drop with multiple phases aka the classic WoW boss.
