What I find really annoying is this constant need to manufacture these event comics. Let's decide on a huge event, then figure out how to shoehorn all of our comics into it! Yeah, thats a brilliant idea. I remember when the real event comics just grew naturally out of the stories that were being told. They weren't EVENTS for any other reason than that the story being told was that damn good. The Kree/Skrull War in the Avengers, The Hellfire Club/Dark Phoenix saga in Uncanny X-Men, Byrne's Fantastic Four run, Simonson's Thor run, Wolfman/Perez on New Teen Titans, I could go on and on.

All of those were epic stories that were done solely within the bounds of the single monthly book that they were working on. They didn't need to cross over into nineteen other series, didn't require a separate special mini-series so you'd know this was supposed to be huge. They became events because they were just that good. You didn't want to miss an issue. THAT is what irks me most about comics right now. Stop with these giant, pre-planned, bloated, endless, momentum crushing events and just turn your best creators loose on things and let them tell good stories. Those are what will be remembered in the end.
Honestly this sums up perfectly why I don't collect comics anymore. Why do I need to follow 8 X-Men books or 4 (soon to be 5) Avenger books just to see all the characters I like, and then have their stories derail when the next big event book comes out. I miss the days when I could collect just 3 X-Men books (Uncanny, Adjectiveless, and New Mutants) to figure out what was going on. All the stories were pretty much self contained. It's like they can't trust a writer to tell the stories they want to tell without editorial interference. I'd say that's the biggest problem in comics right now. The editors meddle too much.

Yeah but if Percy Winkley is this much of a BAMF in Praetoria, I shudder to think how awesomely evil Praetorian Fusionette will be.

Full disclosure: as a Christian, I don't beleive evil is genetic or that human agency can abolish it without divine intervention; this is purely a "what if scenario" that should be divorced from spirituality.

Some/many/all(?) psychological conditions have a chemical and possibly genetic origin, with others being a result of environmental conditions. This ranges from destructive urges such as suicidal depression to social variance such as sexuality.

It can be extrapolated then, that sociopathy (defined here as an emotional disdain for society that renders one incapable of feeling like they "ought to" obey the rules) and psychopathy (defined here as an inability to comprehend society in a way that allows one to comprehend what the rules actually are) may be the result of genetic flaws in an individual. Almost literally, "brain wired differently".

If a retrovirus were developed that could isolate and remove these genetic disorders, and repair them if they developed from environmental conditions, should it be used?

For this discussion, let's ignore tangents such as the possibility of nightmare runaway mutations and the like, and concentrate on the main issues:

    - Every human develops a conscience that they cannot simply ignore: they can only overcome it with will/logic. You can ignore the needs of society, but your reason will never be "I felt like it".

    - Potentially 'benevolent' social/mental disorders are also abolished, such as autistic savants, or some cases of ADD or ADHD (so no mad scientists consumed by a single theory, etc)

    - Morality and Ethics are entirely determined over time by the needs of society and community. It is almost impossible to avoid wanting to pitch in and help make things better. What 'better' means is determined, recursively, by society itself.
Interesting argument, but the most interesting thing about evil, is that sometimes it inspires others to do good to combat it.

Srsly, they've been interesting reads and I've really enjoyed them so far, even the Red Hood book. I have to say, getting really sick of how many people are slagging off the new take on Starfire because she's not like she was in the ****** cartoon series!!

I remember a Starfire in the comics that Dick Grayson had to hold back from killing as she was from a warrior society! She was never a wanton killer, sure, but she we also never the sweet innocent little goody two shoes some people seem to think she is either!
No she's not, but her portrayal in the New Teen Titans was all about passion, this is just an emotionless robot. Now DC is startring to contradict itself too. Did the Wolfman Perez run on NTT happen or not? You can't have Roy mentioning the team when Donna and Wally haven't appeared in DCnU, since Wally, in particular was almost Critical to the whole resolution with Trigon.

Hawk and Dove #1: Another below average book... The 2 have been working together for 3 or so years now and for some reason Hawk doesn't know there is a connection with Don and Dove nor are they cohessive unit even though they always been up to this point and assuming Brightest Day is cannon have been in any known cannon for this unverse... So all the issues they have make no sense... The first page was a cool play on the Hawk & Dove mythos though, tricking the reader into thinking one thing and then going a different direction. so below average writing and below average art... meh.

Ok Dur I think you are being slightly unfair here, They technically have only been back together as team since Brightest Day occurred (Hank was brought back from the dead remember?) There are still a few kinks to work out on the teamwork. Hank & Don were Hawk & Dove for about 2 years when Don died. Dawn appeared about 3-5 months after Don died. Then they were partners about 6 months when Hank died. Hank was gone about a year before being brought back in Brightest Day. ( Granted they still need a timeline to show the backstory so everyone's on the same page and how Hank died)
Hank & Don were close but remember Dawn was overseas in London when she recieved the powers of Dove after Crisis. Do you remember every single one of your brother's or sister's ex-girlfriends / boyfriends?
Granted I'm not a fan of Liefeld's art either but I think story wise you're being totally unfair here.

*(On a side note while I don't agree with you're assessment of Batgirl either, I do agree you raise some valid points in your criticism of that)*

    Got this week:

    Batgirl#1

-Really nice start to the new book. Gail took the changes in stride and really brought out why Babara is such a great character under her watch.

    Hawk & Dove #1

-Nice intro issue, gets you up to speed with a bit of the back story, a twist with Dawn, Hank's issues being brought forth and the introduction of Condor at the end of the issue.

*Have to pick and choose titles because of budget, and don't want to go back to the $60+ a month I was shelling out, when I was actively collecting*

The 52 that are relaunching are not the only series that will be back as they've already confirmed a few others will be back like JSA it's just not gonna be this month and we have no date for them
Karen Starr is appearing in the new Mr. Terrific series, as to whether or not she is Power Girl, that hasn't been made clear.

True that. Main reason I quit collecting was that the events were more important than the actual characters themselves.
