If I was convinced it would help, I probably would have. Except to whom do I address this? Posi? He's far too busy with other stuff to properly take the time and answer what could be a very insignificant question. Castle? Not his department. Same with BAB. Ultimately, I could bring this up to Lighthouse or Ex, but with the amounts of such threads they see, they probably don't know anything more than we do at this point.
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe try Hero 1? He is the lead writter, so should have something to say about content at least.
And try Posi too, it can't hurt. -
I love this quote

These patches are not about big, fancy new features, but things that fans want to make their livers in the game better.
[/ QUOTE ]
First no hangovers, now liver repair! Pinnacle players rejoice! -
Not really a very indepth comment, but I suggest the new studios nickname be NC Squared.
-
Here is a very important question...
Since Ex_lib and the other community people are actually already NCSoft employees (right?), does that mean that they now have seniority on the Devs, who will in effect become the new guys? In that case, will the Devs have to assume the traditional new guy duties such as being sent out to pick up their dry cleaning or to go feed the parking meter for the community staff or other things of that nature? -
Just before they wipe the debt you will be able to go crazy on your characters. Go have dance partys inside hamidon, fall from the roof onto lusca, throw a rock or snowball at Lord Recluse/Statesman. Anything you want, cos in the morning, it won't matter
-
I have no idea what this means in corperate terms and won't even speculate. As it seems that everyone involved is happy about it, we haven't lost any staff and should be getting new ones and assuming that we see the same sort of development we have seen in the past year well into the future, then I'm happy enough.
My one guess is that this might mean plans for another expanalone (or maybe even standalone game!) like City Of Villains.
Possiblities include
City of Pulp (which one of the Devs mentioned ages ago as something they might like to do, I think): Hardbitten detectives in sort of Sin City Online.
City of Fantasy: This would be the marketting dream project. A whole city, stolen away to the red caps realm, where they summon creatures from various fantasy settings and pit them against each other.
Heck, Maybe even CoH2!
Its an unknown quanity, so is both slightly scary and exciting. But, I trust our team (heck, without them i would never have got to play my favourite computer game) so this news gets afrom me.
-
1) Probably around 60-80%, since I hate to miss.
2) Almost always hit, say around 90%-99%
3) Hit somewhere between 1% and 10% of the time
4) Hmm... say somewhere like, 40% of the time, giving defence the edge over to-hit -
Very sorry to see you go, Cuppa. You really have been a big part of making this community special. Thank you for all of your hard work for us, and good luck in everything in the future.

Also... not to be a jerk... but couldn't they have addressed some of the bigger bugs before going after this? Masterminds, broken badges, the Boss Knockback bug?
[/ QUOTE ]
The Mastermind bug, at least, has a fix in the pipeline as of a few days ago - we just have to wait for it to make Test, then Live. I don't know about the others.
[/ QUOTE ]
I know. Just was curious why some changes can pushed through such as Hami and PVP zone debt without testing, but something that is a clear "fix" has to be testing. Seems... backwards? Everything should go to Test before coming within 100 yards of Live unless it's a massive exploit/emergency.
See: the fact that unless they snuck in a patch with the emergency storage bin lockdown, Confused characters can still grief in PVE zones.
[/ QUOTE ]
Its their general policy not to include patch notes about fixing what they consider exploits, because it alerts people who didn't know about the exploit to its existance, and gives them chance to exploit it until the change goes live. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Just added this patch note to PvP section:
Being defeated in a PvP zone will carry debt if any of the damage to you was caused by NPCs. The amount of debt is directly proportional to the amount of damage you took from NPCs vs. how much was done by opposing Player Characters. The more damage dealt to you by NPCs means more debt when you are defeated.
* This means that you can no longer escape debt by being defeated by a PC after taking massive damage from NPCs, nor will you be penalized with a massive amount of debt if you are defeated by an NPC after taking a huge amount of damage from a PC.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why is there Debt in PvP zones at all?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the offcial ruling is because there are NPCs who give XP in the PvP zones, so you need debt to balance the risk Vs. reward equation.
As to why there are NPCs in the PvP zones who give XP, I think the offical reason is to give people who don't particularly want to PvP a reason to go into the PvP zones, so PvP people have more people to fight. -

What is the running speed in lightning reflexes like? Enough to skip super speed or is it closer to swift?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd guesstimate its the same as swift, which is what the similar 'quickness' power in the SR set gives too. -
Just noticed this little bug:
I was fighting some Hellions with my level 5 elec/elec brute and found that when they were in melee range and I had lightning field on, they would seem to keep repeating an animation similar to the one for siphon life. -
I can see it now...
Issue Eight: Big Red Ball!

Suggestion:
Automatically add a Bodyguard Macro to MMs powerbar, similar to the ones already added.
[/ QUOTE ]
Change the Follow command from "follow Aggressive" to "follow Defensive".
I hated the "Aggressive" feature of Follow.
Or type in /macro BG petcom_all Follow Defensive
Unless you want the devs to do it because you're lazy. :P
[/ QUOTE ]
Or unless I want the option to be easily useable by players who don't understand the macro system? i.e. the reason the prebuilt macros are automatically there in the first place?
This is a thread about feedback todo with Bodyguard, no need to get snippy about a perfectly reasonable suggestion. -

I really think that was a bad design idea. Wouldn't it have been better to make the Patron powers blue? Or are all villain players who use electricty supposed to be Mu?
[/ QUOTE ] Well, there is that one story arc where you find that book that proves there's some absurdly huge percentage of the world's population that's in some way descended from the Mu. So it wouldn't be that much of a strech I suppose.
[/ QUOTE ]
And it just so happened that none of them ended up as heroes? -
[ QUOTE ]
Theres been a ton of discussion regarding Patron Power Pools, so I thought Id at least give you a perspective from the design end.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you very much for this, it is most apreciated.
[ QUOTE ]
During CoV development, I wanted to make sure that the game offered a different experience than CoH. One case of this was that CoV became far more focused on storyline and background than CoH was.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really what i would have wanted, to tell the truth. I had expected the difference to be in the way the gameplay made us feel, in the ATs, power usage and the missions.
[ QUOTE ]
We tried to create a vibrant villainous organization that players would want to be part of. For inspiration, I looked to the world of comic books, which are filled with cool, evil organizations.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just out of interest, could you name some of those organisations that inspired you, and some of the individual villains who joined them but don't run them?
And also, what was your reasoning for choosing just one organisation to base the game around, rather than many that battled with one another?
[ QUOTE ]
The powers also do not dovetail perfectly into current power sets.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why was this decided upon? What was the design decision behind making the patrons powers so radically different?
[ QUOTE ]
What fascinates me is how new this discussion is to the MMP world. Ive played lots of games over the years, and usually customization wasnt that big of an issue. I wont use any particular game as an example, but rather Ill take D&D 1st edition to demonstrate a difference. Magic Users then couldnt use swords. Just couldnt. They couldnt really wear armor, either. The major reason for this was balance: a sword wielding, armor wearing mage rendered any regular ole fighter pretty darn useless. There was certainly some grumbling after all, didnt Gandalf wield a sword? but pretty much its been accepted. In fantasy games today (online and other), the same limitations continue to apply When designing City of Heroes, I remember a lot of people telling me that it was just plain wrong to give people so many costume choices in the beginning. People wanted to earn individuality over time, not receive it. Yet, to this day, I think character creation is the single most praised element of the City.
[/ QUOTE ]
It is certainly fasinating, from a certain point of view. But from the perspective of someone who has only ever played in the CoU (I have tried WoW and its not for me, due to setting and the battle system), What I can tell you is this: The customisation of my characters is my number one favourite thing about the games. I love the ability to just suddenly come up with an idea whilst playing, and log out to go make it. Every new powerset, costume piece or aura just makes my choices bigger and bigger. and I love that.
I will happily play in your setting, and interact with your characters. What I don't love is being forced to play a part in your story. To be honest, Arachnos isn't really that interesting. The only member who has shown anything aproaching an interesting story is Ghost Widow, and Lord R doesn;t sem to do much (and comes across as a bit of a dullard in the comic book so far).
[ QUOTE ]
Positron and I will certainly keep this in mind for the future oh, by the way, the reason that Electrical Power is reddish is so that it could mesh well with some Patron Powers. That was the intent, at least.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really think that was a bad design idea. Wouldn't it have been better to make the Patron powers blue? Or are all villain players who use electricty supposed to be Mu?
[ QUOTE ]
And, unfortunately, Chum Spray has been renamed to Bile Spray. Our powers guys felt that Chum was just too campy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Fair enough. It also didn't really make that much sense, anyhow.
Thanks again, States -
[ QUOTE ]
Sure, our costume selection was kind of sparse and pretty generic, but it made for good superheroes.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd have to call you on this point. Of course, its a pretty objective decision, but you'd have to be a very, very harsh judge to have called the CoH costume creator 'sparse and generic' before CoV came out. -
One thing I noticed:
A Henceman in Bodyguard mode (or just defensive), won't respond agressively until an attack actually hits the MM, they ignore any that miss them. I think that should probably change so that the Bodyguards will engage as soon as anyone takes agressive action against the MM.
EDIT: I PM'ed Positron about this and he kindly replied and told me they are working on it. -
Yeah, sounds like one of the best uses for MM will be in ambush situations. The MM gets all the agro, so just put all your hencemen onto bodyguard duty and let them do their job
-
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not asking to "sit there in complete and utter safety laughing your [censored] off at the enemy ". I'm asking that my secondary have SOME EFFECT on the combat. You are traps, you have things you can do that will effect the outcome of the fight....you can fight BACK using your secondary. My secondary is supposed to effect the outcome of a fight by allowing my pets to have increased longevity. THAT is what FF is all about...not hiding in my PFF as you suggest. I don't want to use PFF all the time, and I couldn't even if I did since the nerf. You tell me to run away....if I do that I lose the protection of my pets since they can never keep up with me...so the only real solution you are offering is....if I am attacked, put up PFF and run.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't have that much experience with FF, but do Force Bolt, Detetion Field and Force Buble really have no effect on combat? -
Personally, I don't really think the PvP concerns will matter much, since PvP isn't balanced based on one Vs. one. If you have something you are particularly weak to, teamup with someone who can help you out.
But anyhow, if they decided they wanted to do it, maybe the Devs could make it so:
If the MM is targetted with a TP Foe type power, each Bodyguard has a chance of being picked as the target instead. So, instead of porting you away from your minions, theres a chance they will just snag one of the bodyguards instead.
Just a thought. -
[ QUOTE ]
Question for everyone: Can an MM be one shot now?
[/ QUOTE ]
Technically, noone will be able to be one-shotted anymore, since they are putting the one-shot protection in in I7. -
Another couple of questions:
Will bodyguard still work if the MM is Mezzed?
Will Hences count as bodyguards if they themselves are mezzed?
