  1. 60 months here for me too.
  2. Play a dom and see if its fun?
  3. Dr_Darkspeed

    Hmm..

Try this, once it has been saved through firefox, go to your desktop and you should see the City fo heroes icon there. Click on that.
  4. Dr_Darkspeed

    Hmm..

    This should work

EDIT: Oh yeah, and wolcome to the game
  5. Dr_Darkspeed

    Hmm..

What you should have downloaded is the City of Heroes launcher, thats a small program that will download and instalkl the actual game (this will take quite some time, particularly if you are on a slow internet connection). You should clik on it, and it'll pop up a little window and say it is downloading, then you'll just have to leave it til its finished downloading (and installing) all the game files.
  6. Dr_Darkspeed

    Hmm..

What exactly do you want to know?

Have you downloaded the game? Or having trouble logging in? Or having trouble with the controls?

If you specifiy exactly where the problem is, then I am sure lots of people will be willing and able to help.
  7. I think a change to the rating system was mentioned in the I15 preview thingy.
  8. Its a shame, cos there were some great names in the list of badges removed.
  9. Rather than (or maybe as well as) diminishing returns, what might eb a nice idea is just to give a bigger reward the first time your character does something. Give double (or triple) the number of merits for the first time you do a TF or Story arc. That ups the amount of merits available to a character who just goes through doing everything once, is reasonably hard to farm (maybe the low level stuff doesn't get this bonus?) and should make doing something different more attractive to repeating something.
  10. We don't need a reputation bar, we already have badges. Badges for defeating certain number of members of certain groups, badges for completing stories about certain groups, badges for going places that are significant to certain groups.

Now, if we could have certain enemies have different dialogue based on what badges we have, or have contacts give us different missions or have enemies behave slightly differently, that would be awesome.

So I am NOT suggesting this because I personally am looking for another badge but I think if a player shows that much dedication some sort of recognition should be given. SO let the argument begin LOL or not

    [/ QUOTE ]

So... being given 600 badges = no recognition.
but being given 601 badges = recognition?

  12. Bye Ex Lib, thanks for everything you have done

    Energy Rifle Set

Its a good idea for a set, but I think a tad more variety (with more classic ray gun type attacks) would be good. Maybe have a heat beam (energy/fire damage, smallish chance to drop a short lived ignite patch that the targets location), change the single target hold to a cryobeam, maybe. And/or maybe a stun ray?

Also, would be good if 1-2 of the attacks were very, very thin cones, essentially making them straight line beams that hit anything along their path.
  14. Normally i would refrain from making completely frivolous posts, and this may be partly triggered by a recent trip to the pub, but I just wanted to express my overwhelming enthusiasm for CoH and I14 in particular, and I really hope we get even more new information soon and maybe even open beta by the end of this week.

Thank you Devs for making something so fun.

There are some MA badges that are account wide, usually ones that are tied to publishing arcs and the arcs themselves (such as getting an Arc to be Dev Choiced, that badge is granted to all your characters).

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Sounds great, thanks for answering
  16. Thanks Positron.

Will Badges related to MA wortk the same way? I.e. a badge that was for playing through x amount of MA arcs would be just for the character you played through the arcs with, but a badge which was for having X amount of people play through your arcs would be account wide (all your characters get them)?

Not asking exact details on what badges are going to be in there, just as to is there will be some account wide badges associated with account wide things, or if there will only be character specific badges?
  17. [ QUOTE ]

Can't talk about the exact-exact specifics just yet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Fair enough, I'll just wait patiently for more info/open beta
  18. Hi Positron, thanks for answering some questions on a Saturday.

Could you just talk briefly about how the Powers for custom critters will work? Do we get to say what powers from the powersets each critter will use? or, is the selection determined by the critter type (i.e. something like, Minion critters will only use the first few powers in the set, AVs will use the full powerset)
  19. [ QUOTE ]

Where, exactly, is this not an MMO?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The first M stands for massively. NWN is certainly a MORPG, but its not an MMORPG, its a question of scale. NWN nights is designed for a maximum of 64 people playing at once on the same server (though some people got this higher by basically running multiple versions of the game simultaneously). Whether or not you think that makes much of a difference is besides the point, by the commonly used definition of an MMORPG, CoH is one and NWN isn't. (OK, technically there was a NWN MMO in the 90s, but that didn't have Player generated content, so it has no bearing).

As for whether CoH really is the first MMORPG to have player generated content, I have no idea. I assume that if they say they are, then they are. Its almost certainly the most popular MMORPG to have PGC.
  20. [ QUOTE ]

So wait, if they start giving the playerbase 100% content and creative control, then what will be the reason for us to pay $14.95?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um... New maps, new powersets, new zones, new dev created content and characters, UI and QoL improvements, new enhancements, new costumes, new mission types, new MA tools, new systems etc...
  21. Heres another interview, from Allakhazam, some nice insights and apparently the devs will be using the MA to make missions in the future (and that when they get new tools for it, they will be passed onto the players).
  22. [ QUOTE ]
    Epic thread and epic details.

Question: Can we use contacts that aren't humanoid npcs, such as the radio, television?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That was answered in the audio file, yes we can.

Although a follow up might be... can we have non-humanoid critters as enemies in the missions, like the Radio EB and the various turrets?

How will level scaling work? Will every mission automatically scale to your current level (+ difficulty, team size, etc.) or will it be predetermined by the "architect"?

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is complicated. Every critter has a level range where they are valid. When you make a mission, all of the level ranges must overlap at some point. If you are outside this level range when you go to play the mission you will be brought up or down to the level rang of the mission.

    Example, I use critters A (1-54), B (34-45) and C (40-48). The level range of the mission is (40-45).

If I am level 5, I will play mission at level 40.
If I am level 50, I will play mission at level 45.
If I am level 42 I will play at level 42.
If I am level 5, but have set my difficulty to max, I will play at level 38.

Note: I said mission here, not arc, each mission has an independent level range.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks very much for all the great answers

As a follow up to this, how does critter level work with custom critters? Are they all defaulted to 1-50 range, or can we choose their level range or are their level ranges determined by the powers we assign to them?

On the custom critter front, how do the powers work? Do we just assign powersets? Or can we build their powers piecemeal? (a martial arts kick, a pistol attack and a psi blast, say).

Also, I know we will have access to give custom critters variations on the player powersets, but will we also be able to give them powers based on existing critters? (i.e. could I make a new baddie who had the same powers as one of the Kheldian PPD critters?)
