Quote:Which why I say game companies cant do it because people would complain about balance and the game wouldn't sell or at least last. Still this unfairness just strikes me as life, and while I guess it could be considered sickness in a game <dah easy mode, or dah tank mage> I think it's as much about the people playing though. That's not something 'game companies' can't do. That's something games can't do. This is what's called fundamental unfairness - and it's a sign of sickness in a game.
I'd say Batman and Supes are the same security level. I don't believe Batman thinks it's fundamentally unfair that Superman can lift a planet and survive nukes? He figures out how to make it work for him. The best possible solution would be a game that was flexible enough to let living god solve a mission one way and the detective another. That would make it clear that good old thunder kick from a normal isn't gonna drop a man made of stone and give other options to the human scrapper, or his team. I'm not sure anyone's willing to be that creative or risky though.
Hence we RP within our groups of friends who will accept our memes, accept the ability juggle titans. In PVP we accept batclone was prepared when he went into battle against superclone and had a piece randommildyradioactive mineral sewn into his undies. None of this makes the game less fun, but another take would be interesting. Shoot those of us who read comics make these allowances a lot, does anyone really believe Wolverine is a credible anti-hulk gun? I mean really? -
When I used to write, Jack was on par with States, Recluse, or Ascendant. His Virture Verse entry certainly implies few limts on his physical power, and that he also has the worldly resources nesscarry to make him a contender for MPBOE. He's my only character who even apporaches that level though, Spidermanclone power levels is plenty I say.
Sometime I think people get a little to caught up in the game mechanic/engine sometimes. I'd love a MMO that had charcters/ships/whatever that were clearly more powerful then others. Not on accident, Not cause something else got nerfed, but just were. I think it would very intresting if level 50 Captain BatClone knew that he couldn't defeat level 50 Capt Shazamerclone straight up. I understand why game companies can't really do this, but still it'd be nice, or at least fun, if the old level 20 overpowered Mage from D&D second edtion (who took like 2 times the exp of a level 20 thief) still existed. Of course, technically I've become a casual gamer in my old age and I'd never actually have the top end character. -
Yes, well I'm not as obsessive as some people are about IOs, never could quite find the best mix, or afford it. Still Jack does top out the smash lethal resists with his others are in the high 30s and his def is huge. Haven't bothered to test him in a while, I suppose we'll see when I kick tyrant's *** in Going Rogue.

At some point, I think, we become high B league characters. A Nova or a Jonn Jonzz, a reliable player on any team, great fodder for a mini series, maybe even a series, but not the big gun of the universe. The scripted missions are pieces of that mini-series or our view of being an Avenger, the filled in stuff we RP is our creator's back story and may not see print. There's not gonna be news coverage if the writer decides to kill us.
In world, We're part of the cannon, we've acomplished some great things, the knows us, but sometimes they even call on us, but we're not Statesman (boy it should be be nice to ask him what the hell he's so busy with that he can't help on the STF though)
Much like Doom is Doom, Recluse is Recluse and no matter how many large or small setbacks he experiences, his place in the world isn't gonna change. Recluse is playing the really really deep long game.
States and Lady Grey are at the same level, leaders of their respective factions, much like Superman, Statesman dosen't get enough credit for the game he's playing. It's also good to remember it's all a Nemesis Plot anyway.
Game engine wise? 50s were comparable to anyone early on, but are not quite on par with signature AVs now. More Wonder Man Vs. Rulk. Wonder man will make a good show of it, but he is not winning that fight. 5 years ago Jack could tank any AV or any giant monster ,forever, really. He'd rarely beat them on his own (I'd get so bored), just not enough damage output (Energy tanks though OI), but no one was dropping him. I had to adjust his fighting style after the enhancment changes, and all the f***ing with invulnerability and then again when IO became available.
When the STF first came out Jack could solo Recluse and his damnable spawns while the others went to work on the towers then brought the damage to Recluse. Then he needed a healer...then a good healer, now sometimes 2. But he was never gonna win that fight alone.
Statesman is the most powerful mob in the game, based on the damage output I've seen in several "Rescue from Tyrant" runs, he could one shot an entire team, and have no issues beating the crap outta Hami (oh he'd get bored, but his regen and resistances would keep him standing). Once saw the guy do 4900 Smash Damage with a foot stomp. 4900...after resistances...oi. I get the feeling that Statesman is still a Beta.09 tank who could resist 99% everything. I'd love to see his table. -
((Umm classic repeat? Really have a hard time getting up the energy to write anymore <having a Wonderful Holiday aren't I> Its sappy, it’s always been sappy. I’ve always been a sappy writer, hell I’m amazed I even have this in me. Much less I’d be willing to share it. Jack’s take on the holidays, it began as Christmas dinner thread a couple <few?> years ago where Jack invited the Legends to dinner and asked they share their favorite Christmas moments with him. Please forgive typos I have terrible habit of writing stream of consciousness and not being able to see when complete ideas in my head didn't make it to paper. Even when I use Word to write with. Jack's always had the soul vision from an RP way back, way before the dude gave it to Superman in Origins. Anyway happy happy all. )
Jack watched as the world turned beneath his feet, or rather didn’t. Matching the Earth’s rotation he appeared to hang motionless, at the edge of space, below him Paragon City blazed in the night, its War Walls shimmering in the endless void. It was the Holidays, not a favorite time for Jack.
A year ago he might have said different, but it had been a hard year. A year ago, he’d have said his friends; his family would be together, now he knew better. It seemed the government took a dislike to Legend’s activities, the activities of this team of heroes, and shut them down. Most of the team was forced underground, encouraged to join other sanctioned teams or made to retire. Some folks simply disappeared; disappearing happened to people, he’d made it happen to people.
The message from the Agency was clear, we like Wolfe, we can use Wolfetech, what we don’t need is the good doctor thinking he can make a real difference. Change the world. They tried to kill him and discovered they couldn’t, but with the team dispersed, his fortune locked up by the courts and his reputation destroyed the point was made. He stepped back and the “problems” with Wolfetech disappeared. Security Clearances returned, contracts were paid on time, and new business just suddenly appeared. Even his reputation had been sanitized, he once again led the premiere “exotic ideas” think tank on the planet, all it cost him was a team…a family.
“At least” he mused, “They are alive.”
It was getting close, midnight on Christmas Eve. He’d never watched the show from orbit before and was anxious to see it. A moment’s concentration, then the world below him changed. His vision widened, the entire EM spectrum visible, then nothing but darkness. Slowly the balls appeared, popped into his vision like quantum foam. Each bundle of color represented the soul of someone in Paragon. He’d discovered this trick soon after his wife and sons had died in the war; if he focused hard enough he could see…..something of a person. Hexess had called it soul vision. Jack wasn’t sure about that, but it was a fascinating gift. A twirl of colors, bound together, each representing that person’s personality, the sum of their actions in life. Red was anger and passion, black was serenity, but also isolation, angry purples and greens clashed in the evilest beings he’d ever seen. Gold, was sacrifice and heroism and white was a perfect balance of all the colors. A person at peace with all their life contained radiated a blinding white. As far as Jack knew there were no completely white souls. Some had more then others; those content with what they did those whose actions, good or bad cost them nothing.
“Babies radiate white” he thought “Jim and Trip after the kids were born, and somehow Red has quite a bit white. Gibraltar too, wonder if the golem knows it has a soul?” he thought
Looking down at Paragon he saw a lot of gold, and even more of the stormier purple.
“Soon” he thought
He’d discovered the meaning of this time year the first Christmas after his wife was executed. Alone and despondent he sat on the roof of his loft, watching the souls pass by when he first heard the bells .
<jingle jingle jingle>
“The sleigh bells? Impossible" Jack thought, "I’m in orbit. He can’t be above me.”
“Ho Ho Ho” echoed through his mind, and he saw it. The evil purple haze to the east, the Rouge Islands burned blindingly white. Then below him the whirlwinds of light began to change and glow white, and above, a blindingly white light shone from space.
“He’s never been this high…I have to…” reaching out with his will Jack warped gravity, and accelerated towards the blinding white ball. He’d never seen its owner before but this year he had to know.
Jack was engulfed in a blinding light. When Jack woke up, he found himself sitting on the beach in front of his Talos surf shop, every soul in the city radiated the blinding white light of peace. Each one in perfect harmony and balance. That was the old man’s gift; a night peace for everyone, a feeling of balance and rightness, a chance to look at a life, no matter what that life may be, and be content. Jack knew it would fade, it always did, but for one night everyone was at peace, and everyone had hope.
In a world of heroes and villains, demons and gods, sentient AI and aliens, Santa Claus seemed tame; even silly. Jack knew better, so did the Legends. Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus, and he makes no judgments about life style or religion or even naughty and nice, he only gives one precious gift. Peace. -
Jack is a cross between the crotchety 70 year old man and the ultimate laid back surfer. He can be loud, opinionated, stoic, and quiet at the same time. He will speak his mind, but is also willing to be led. He rarely worries about the small details.
The public tends to see Jack, his marketing department hopes, as a super powered All American grandpa figure. In truth his sense of right/wrong, justice, and honor are nearly a black and white equation. He will do the right thing, as he sees it, and while preferring not to will kill to protect those around him.
Those who have known Jack a long time comment on a personality change. This change is attributed to the death of his family during the Rikti war and his failure to keep his second family, the Urban Legends, together.
He admits to being a bit of a closet letch and loves Paragon for the beautiful women, and their fashion choices. Despite his status as a dirty old man, he is very proper around women and has a huge soft spot for innocents and children

Quote:You know, I think it has more to do with the people I was playing and teaming with at the time. I have high 30s villian, lots of mid 20s, and on hero side have several mid to low 40s, but never make the push (sorta just plink away solo).Happy Anniversary, Jack!
So, all these years, never the temptation to complete a villain? Pity. You get a choice of your own volcano or submarine with yacht-class interior when Made. <waggles a toaster>
Thanks
My supergroup kinda imploded and I haven't been as engaged since. Lots less teaming, fewer hours, that kinda thing. I don't even think I've done a single villian strike force.
It's not a ding on other players or the RP of other groups, though the Legends were spectacular, it just happened. I know a few of us from Legends dropped MMOs as RP all together and went back to desktop groups only. (Course I had just moved here and didn't have that support group so I stuck around)
Same in WoW I have don't have a maxed there, but I have a level 49 thief I've been playing for 5 years who has like 800 gold, but never levels
Just feeling old and the holiday, think I go put on Jack's Santa suit at ICON, that always helps.
That is a nice toaster though...... -
Vera cool deebs. Needs and old man with a grey ponytail, beard, and glowy eyes to anchor it
-
and not another one since......Oi. 5 years ago tonight/tomorrow Jack tripped 50. Wow. There have to be a few others, I know a couple of the Urban Legends beat me to 50 so lets here the stories.

Quote:Depends on the Voodoo. I have a Bots/Storm MM whose robots are possessed Cisco Routers and Switches.Voodoo? Hhmm, my concept character is natural-origin and really the furthest thing from that o_O. And Voodoo would be a stretch for any MM primary besides Zombies or maybe Ninjas. Perhaps you should open it up a more? I realize a theme is important, but something like "Voodoo" almost automatically disqualifies a Bots/FF or Mercs/Traps from participating. Just my 2 inf =)
She's 26 or 27 now. Hope you all are having fun.

Mariel,
There are at least a dozen ways you could Identify a ship as Romulan without ever seeing a Romulan (a bit of shortsightedness, of the 60s, who thought we'd have two way 50' visual screens in our living rooms by 2010 and a line that needs to changed in the Balance of Terror. ).
Romulan Power signatures/ship design: Even though they'd never seen a Romulan, they had fought a war against and I guarentee the "outposts along the Neutral Zone" have huge huge huge sensor nets spying on Romulan space. Given that this is Archerverse (Scottiy's angry admiral's pet, who reappears in the book) I'd bet not seeing a Romulan doesn't equate to not having a clue about how they design ships and what they use to power them. Trek hasn't show massive inovation in what powers their ships, just the efficiency, it's possible the ole Romulan Artificial Quantum Singularity power is how the Roms do the FTL thing and everyone knows it. So the tactical computer goes AQS power source, threat probably Romulan. We do that with submarines now (Tracking sound profiles)
Markings: I'm not convinced the Nardea wasn't marked. Sensors that can handle trans-light navigation and put visuals on the screen at millions of kilometers may just notice things we don't. There may not have been a Romulan Star Empire flag on the mining ship, but how about SS Nardea writing in Romulan script?
My favorite is IFF: Maybe the Nardea was just broadcasting her IFF, Nero wanted the humans to pay for the destruction of Romulus (sp) maybe he was broadcasting to the universe.
Red,
Lucas innovated the summer blockbuster, and I'll give you fantasy, but not Sci Fi...ok maybe Sy like the Sy Fy channel (meaning no science at all) -
((((I thought it was never piss off the Kryptonian.))

(((There's a huge history of evil corporations in comics. Luthor Corp and Roxxon come to mind. To the public they are no worse then the "evil" corporations Herriod spoke, they may cross into some grey areas but aren't trying to take over the world. The Heroes know better, but honestly even the big guns would have trouble taking that to he media or collecting enough evidence finish the job. A fact the annoys Jack to no end, being a responsible benign multinational owner
I always assume the street spawns shoot first.....or you know looked at me funny and deserved what they got))

Congrats Chaos; I have 1 50 in 5 and a half years, and that 1 50 will be 5 years old in December (I should have a party). So no pressure for a second

Moved my closest to 50 villain from alevel 37 mastermind up to 39.
Rolled a new mastermind magic based robotics/storm. Made a vow to use only influence she earned in decking her out then Won a million infamy at level 20 in costume contest, making SOs a possibility. Spent at least 2 hours on her costumes and respecs
Realized being a 63 month veteran makes level 1 a lot easier (attack power, Blackwand, Nemesis Staff, Sands of MU) is an very nice attack chain
Got 23 levels in 6 hours on the new Master Mind and I like the concept a lot. -
I, not playing more then 4 hours a day (which is alot for me, but not horrible) got my 37 mastermind to 39 and my joke magic orgin robotics mastermind (who may become my new focus) from 0 to 22 <gasp> and I may have an hour tonite to play.
Yay. -

Lots of stones being thrown in the house of glass. Enjoy your homage as long as you aren't A 160 year old claw/regen scrapper named Logan who fought in the civil war(2 if you count last years), traveled though the far east, was captured in Canada, and had adamant infused into your skeletal structure you're probably ok.
Don't let the subset of folks who are wound too tight get to you, they tend to forget that even the most original characters/stories are inspired from earlier works. Plus maybe the copyright expired already and it's public domain
I swear though if I see you say "His power level reads 9000" I'm gonna Jack-O-Vision <tm> you. Seriously -
Or just Jack, Dr. Jack is a force multiplier on his own.

Actually I prefer one, in a live RP situation. I might embelish it a bit with emotes, but I like to run lean and fast. In a story/RP post? Quote three is the better, choice, but of course the subject is bit mundane. Yes I know it's my subject.
I also bind emotes to attack powers. Jack tends to scream "Gravity Check" when thowning the big punch. My blasters call targets, I have a red side witch who keeps charms in her belt. These charms are inspirations so I've bound keys that say things like "X breaks open sulfer tablet to increase our damage.
From the plane, on my phone so forgive any errors.
