Steal MY gloves?! I can't believe this!

All of these look really cool, also! From a scientific perspective, of course.
  2. Hey everyone,

This morning’s patch will have correctly updated the profanity filter for Mission Architect. Some examples of words that were not previously working that are now working are:
Spider, Paragon, Lord Recluse, Magnetic, Longbow, Guardian, Bride, Acrobatics, flame, Castle, Manticore, Sister Psyche, Statesman

We’re aware that there are still some other issues with the profanity filter. Please post any other issues that you’re having with it and we will look into addressing them as well. Thanks!
  3. Hey everyone,

The authmerge earlier this week put in an update to the profanity filter for Architect and fixed things like Paragon being blocked. We're still aware that there are some issues regarding words still being blocked. There will be another pass over the profanity filter for these other exceptions and another update will be rolled out afterwards.

If there are more very common words that you're still finding blocked, please post them below. Thanks!
  4. Greetings Architects!

I, Dr. Aeon, am here today to reveal the winner of my latest Architect Challenge! It was difficult to choose the winner in the end with all the terrific arcs that were submitted, I’ll tell you that! Everyone who entered their arcs did a great job and you should all be very happy with the arcs that you’ve done. Without further delay, here is the winner of the Architect Challenge!

Who Dares Wins by @Zaphir, Arc ID 454805

Follow the story of a Sky Raider captain with his sights set on the Terra Volta Reactor. He has everything planned out, but something unexpected makes the heist take an unforeseen turn...

Zaphir’s arc follows the adventures of Captain Richardson of the Sky Raiders. It’s an excellent story of a Rogue’s adventure through and through, with an ending that will make you remember Captain Richardson and maybe even make you feel bad (just a little) for all the Sky Raiders you beat up in the past. I won’t spoil the story here, but I’ll just say that Zaphir has done an excellent job in writing the classic story of a true rogue with a “heart of gold”. The writing in the arc is superb and the missions are extremely well designed, making this arc an absolute blast to play.

Congratulations to Zaphir for winning the challenge, Who Dares Wins is now our latest Dev Choice! Thanks again to everyone who has entered their arcs, you all did a great job!
  5. Hello Architects!

Time is up on the entries for the Architect contest! Now begins the fun part for you all – waiting! Well, maybe that part isn’t so fun, but I’m sure you all can figure out a way to make it fun.

I’ll be playing through all of your arcs soon and I’ll be sure to let each of you know when I’ve gotten through them. Good luck to everyone who has entered!
  6. Hello Architects!

Just reminding everyone that there are just TWO more days left to submit your arcs! The due date is Midnight PST on October 20th.

I'll be looking forward to playing all your arcs!
  7. Hello Television lovers!

Dr. Aeon here. It seems to me that it's been a long time coming for Television to answer your questions. I decided to take it upon myself to answer some questions for the Television. My answers are fairly close to what he would say. So, without delay, here are four questions of yours and four of my, er, Television's, answers!

    1) What is the Television's favorite television program?

Television, in reality, hates itself. It only watches programs created on DAETV, which is Dr. Aeon Television. This contains programs made by Dr. Aeon's crack science team. It's a real blast to watch. Two shows that Television really enjoys are, "All My Aeons" and "As the Aeons Turn"

    2) So, be honest, how much fun is your job, really? I mean, are you living the geek's dream, or is it way more work than you ever thought it would be?

It’s definitely a lot more fun whenever I work with that brilliant designer of a man called Dr. Aeon. I’m always amazed at everything he comes up with, even when it’s just proposing where to go out for lunch. You would think something as simple as choosing where to go to lunch wouldn’t amaze you, but Dr. Aeon manages to do it every single time. So, with that in mind, I would say my job is incredibly fun, as long as I get to do everything possible to support Dr. Aeon in whatever he wants to do.

    3) As someone who is just getting into the game design industry as a hobby/possible career/possible company to start, I'm curious as to how you got into the industry. What was the first game you worked on?

The first game I worked on was called The Incredibly Amazingly Incredible Super Happy Adventures of the Amazingly Super Dr. Aeon. It was a very niche title that sold well in certain areas. It would be the first time I was exposed to Dr. Aeon, and little would I know that he would continue to have such a tremendous impact on the rest of my life. I knew when working on the game that this man known as Dr. Aeon was someone astounding, but I wouldn’t know just how amazing he was until I began to work here at Paragon Studios.

    4) What techniques do you use to make meetings shorter?

Any meeting with Dr. Aeon doesn’t need to be made shorter. In fact, I think they need to be made longer. I love when he shows us all his science experiments, but there’s usually not enough time to go through them all, especially the last one where he showed us his theory on interdimensional time travel and going back and forth through temporal space. As you can see, this makes any meeting with Dr. Aeon fascinating. I would never want them to go any shorter than they already are, and I hope one day he perfects his temporal time machine to allow meetings with him to go on forever.
  8. Hey everyone,

Dr. Aeon here to clarify a misconception from earlier in this thread. There is 1 hero arc and 1 villain arc for levels 20-29 being released for Issue 19. Praetorians and Primal Earth characters will have different dialog tree options for these arcs.
  9. Greetings, Architects!

I'm making this post here to declare this thread the DEV CHOICE SUGGESTION THREAD (please insert fanfare here).

Here, you can make suggestions for arcs that you feel should be selected as a Dev Choice. There's just a few rules I'd like you all to follow. I'm a doctor after all, rules are my business.

    1. The arc you suggest must be flagged as final.
    2. The arc can't be your own.
    3. The player can't already have a Dev Choice.

That's it! Three simple rules. If you break them, horrific things will happen. Just kidding! But not really.

Also, please keep this thread to just posting suggestions for Dev Choice arcs. Any discussion on whether or not something should or shouldn't have been suggested can be talked about in-game in the arena.
  10. Greetings, Architects!

Dr. Aeon here! Remember me? The brilliant scientist in Cap au Diable? Much more brilliant than that “Praetor Berry” in Praetoria. I mean, really, who is going to put their trust in a guy named Berry? I know I wouldn’t, but that’s just me making an informed decision.

Anyway, to the point! I’m here today to issue my Third ARCHITECT CHALLENGE! It’s been a long time coming, so I hope you’re all ready for this one!

The challenge is to write and design an arc revolving around heroes falling from grace or villains redeeming themselves.

The sky is the limit on this one, folks! As you can tell, the focus here is on GOING ROGUE, so feel free to rogue it up (or vigilante it up) as much as you want! Since I’m feeling generous, I’ll give you all one of Dr. Aeon’s patented hints. The story doesn’t necessarily need to have the hero falling all the way to villainy and vice versa, and it could even be the story focusing around the player’s own shift of alignments, similar to the Going Rogue system!

Now, down to the details, and I am a man who prides himself on knowing the details on things (ever since the accident). The contest starts NOW. When you think your arc is gritty, heroic, or plain good enough, send an e-mail to AECommunityContest@ncsoft.com with the following in the subject line: @Global Name – Arc ID – Arc Name. The final day for submissions will be on October 20th, 2010. You can only submit your own arcs, I am a man who does not respond to shy people! Though, I wouldn’t really know if I do, since shy people don’t try to speak with me.

Winners will be announced no later than Wednesday, November 3, 2010.

The grand prize winner will receive a Dev Choice for their arc and a permanent yellow title.

Sound good to everyone? Eh? This is much better than anything those stupid scientists in Praetoria could come up with, I’ll tell you that much. Anyway, good luck to everyone entering the contest!

  11. That was a great video Ashcraft, two thumbs up! Though, it's too bad you chose the wrong side at the end. Things like that can't be helped, I suppose.
  12. Hey everyone,

I wanted to pop in to speak about changes made to scaling enemies in the recent patch. We've disabled archvillains from scaling beneath their minimum level. Regular enemies, minions, lieutenants, bosses, etc, will still scale down beneath their minimum level. We made this change because combat scaling affects Archvillains/Hero class critters much more than other foes. This leads to strange numbers at the extreme low end, numbers that were never designed for or balanced against. Coupled with the rewards of defeating an AV, a fix was necessary.

I hope you all understand the reason why this was changed. Please feel free to let me know if anything isn't working as it should be or if anything is unclear!

    Dr. Aeon
  13. Hey guys, we're aware of the current issue regarding the defendable objects and are working on a solution, but I can't give any ETA on when that will come down the pipe.

I'm going to second this, one of my favorite parts of i17 is also the new music that was put in for the cutscenes in both Posi TF's and the new story arcs. Make sure your music is on when you're playing them!
  15. Hey everyone,

Some of you may have noticed a new developer lurking on the forums, Black Scorpion, who was introduced here:http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=218430

I wanted to take a moment to explain what exactly he and I will be working on with Mission Architect. Black Scorpion normally works with Synapse and Castle and all things power-related, but he'll also be helping out with Mission Architect powers from here on out. He'll be doing things like looking at balance issues in terms of power and experience for custom powers in Architect. This is especially important given the new custom experience system that we'll be rolling out with i17. He's been working on a lot of cool things for Architect which we're both super stoked about, including a more preferable solution to the current ally experience penalty. This is something you'll be hearing more about soon.

You can think of Black Scorpion and I as a team, like in a buddy cop movie, only instead of fighting crime, we work on Mission Architect. We'll also sometimes say witty one-liners while tracking down bugs. Black Scorpion will work on ensuring things are nice and balanced within the system, while I'll be working on introducing new maps and features into Architect.

So please welcome Black Scorpion, I'm sure you'll all be very happy with what he's been working on for Mission Architect!
  16. Hey everyone,

We wanted to take a moment to address issues that have come up regarding the latest patch that has been released. We certainly understand a lot of your concerns and we want to do our best to alleviate them.

The change that has been implemented is a temporary change to combat a long standing exploit. This was a stopgap fix that we had to put out until we could come up with a more permanent solution. We certainly do not want to leave your arcs in a state where using them in non-exploitive ways results in little to no experience being gained.

Myself, pohsyb, Television, War Witch, along with everyone else here involved in the operations of Mission Architect, are doing everything we can to arrive at a solution that we can all agree on.

We currently plan to implement a solution in issue 17 or soon thereafter (and I mean actual soon and not Soon™) . We can't go into detail about what exactly is planned, but it will alleviate the current issue that many of you are having, which is finding your normal arcs are rewarding little experience.

Anyone who has a normal story arc that is drastically affected by this change should not go about overhauling your work. We are going to make sure that this upcoming fix will stop exploitive behavior within Architect while also allowing you all to be as creative as you want within the system - without extremely negative consequences.

  17. Hello, Architects!

Dr. Aeon here, fresh off of my trip of prospecting for brand new areas to put into my amazing Mission Architect system.

Now I took tons of pictures of places I'm planning on integrating into the system...and I figured, why don't I share some of them with you?

Unfortunately I'm not in any of them, as I couldn't bring my armed bodyguards. Paragon seems to dislike it when someone walks around with several armed Bane Spider Executioners.

So without further ado, here are some maps being added to Mission Architect for Issue 17!

    Atlas Park - Fashion Show

Grandville - Conference Room to Lobby

    Batzul's Hell

    Cimerora - Phoebas Point

    Carnival of Shadows Warehouse

Those are all the pictures I can show you, for now! Keep in mind that this is just a sample of what's coming in issue 17 - there are over 20 maps that will be added to Architect!

    Until next time, Architects!
  18. A Heart Breaking Story - ID 378511

Henry Peter Wong asks you to investigate the disappearance of a small group of newly-registered Heroes. One of them in particular just so happens to be a Nuclear Ninety teenager who has yet to learn to control his amazing powers.

The Nuclear Ninety are a group of heroes that really fascinate me. Do you know how many cities they could power with those nuclear reactors they call hearts? It's a lot, which is why anyone who has a brain would be interested in them. Not myself of course, given that I'm a step above the common groups like the Vahzilok and Council, who are after this specific member of the Nuclear Ninety.

Arctic Princess' arc is a story that delves deeper into the characters of the Nuclear Ninety, while also giving an interesting spin on working with Hero Corps. The story itself isn't too long, but it does the job of immersing you into the story and making you curious as to the fate of this specific member of the Nuclear Ninety. The arc is also a great introduction for a new hero to the subtle politics of Hero Corps, Crey, and other villain groups within Paragon City.

I'm happy to give this week's Dev Choice to Arctic Princess. Congratulations, you earned it!
  19. Two Tickets To Westerly - 374002

While patrolling in Kings Row, you see her. Trashy outfit, smeared makeup, unkempt hair; just another Skulls Girlfriend, you think. You're about to pass her by when she starts waving to you. "Please! I need help!" she pleads. "My boyfriend...I think he's in trouble."

PW's arc shows that not all people who are seen as "bad" are necessarily bad. Which I think is a great thing. Do you know how hard it is to try to get rid of the "evil mad scientist" label that society puts on you? It's not easy, not even for a person as brilliant as myself.

Enough about me. PW tells a terrific story of the small struggle of a member of the Skulls who wants to make a new life for himself and his girlfriend. Playing through this arc will definitely make you think twice about beating down that Skull and his girlfriend - maybe the two of them are also seeking to make a new life. Who're you, as a hero (who may think I'm evil) to go beat them in the face? It's also a great arc for new characters to play through and helps to establish the Skulls as a more in-depth group.

I'm happy to present today's Dev Choice to PW! Congratulations!
  20. Hello Architects!

I have to say, you really made the job of picking a winner for this round incredibly difficult. I started to think that everyone here was working with Television to make my life harder. All of the arcs submitted were top-notch, so it was very difficult to choose one that was the best. I played the top arcs out of all the submissions several times before finally concluding the winner.

But, there can only be one winner, and here it is!

Night Calls The Weaver - By Sister Twelve - ID 375420

A chance meeting with an old woman on the streets of Kings Row leads your hero into a plot 23 years in the making... and into the forgotten story of a heroine who deserves to be remembered.

Sister Twelve definitely threw in something that was unexpected for this arc. The story is very subtle, with multiple storylines running through the background to bring you to the very end - one of the more influential stories involving the loss of a hero's power. The arc's story is detailed and personal to the player playing it, as well having cameos from well known signature characters. Those who play through the story will be well-rewarded at the end, especially with it helping to kick off the rest of your hero's career.

As I said earlier, all of the arcs were very well done for the contest. All of you that submitted stories should be proud of the work you've done, and I hope you continue to keep the arcs you made up for other people to play! They all provide a good amount of fun for players at low levels and interesting branching stories for new characters to start with their own characters.

    Until next time, Architects!
  21. Hello Architects!

Today, as many of you know, is the final day for the Architect Challenge. I've been reading over the forums for the past few weeks and I wanted to take this time just to give a hand to all of the people who have both posted their arcs to be reviewed and to all the people who have given considerate/helpful feedback to all those who have posted.

One of my goals coming in here was to help the community support each other more in their efforts to create and write great arcs and it's clear to me that you've all gone above and beyond in that respect for this challenge.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone has done for this challenge, and I want to emphasize that even though there can only be one winner, I hope everyone who has written an arc continues to leave it up and improve upon them.

    Good luck everyone!

    Dr. Aeon

    PS: Don't support Television. Ever.
  22. Hello Architects!

I wanted to give you all a reminder that this Wednesday is the deadline for the second Architect challenge!

If you're participating, make sure to have your arc submitted before that date!

    Good luck!
  23. Hey everyone,

I wanted to reboot our previous Dev Choice proposal threads with this new, improved, and shinier thread. However I want to make it clear that I have also looked at all of the arcs that were posted on that thread and that were marked as final.

Let's lay down some rules first on how this thread goes.

    1) You can't submit your own arc.
    2) The arc listed must be flagged as FINAL. If it's not flagged as final then I can't consider it eligible for consideration as a Dev Choice.
    3) This thread is going to be for suggestion only, so please keep it to that. No debating over whether an arc should or shouldn’t be suggested.

Those are the three golden rules! Just to clarify to those concerned, this thread is not going to be the only place I use to find Dev Choices, just one of them. So if your arc isn't posted here, it doesn't mean that I'll never see it.
  24. Purification - ID 352381

The monsters of the Devouring Earth have been strangely quiet, but that changes with a sudden attack on an office building. Soon you find yourself embroiled in a desperate struggle for the survival of the human race.

I'll say it here and now - I really don't like the Devouring Earth. Maybe it's because they're completely unnatural. Or maybe it's because of the time I had to recover a sample of Hamidon from within the Abyss. Who knows? Regardless, they're a blight upon the world and deserve to be stomped out.

This is exactly something you can do within Flame Kitten's arc, Purification, which takes place after the Unity Plague arc that many have played on hero side. The Devouring Earth are at it again, but this time Crey comes into the equation, unknowingly giving them a boost in their plans to destroy the entire human race. Time is ticking when you're playing this arc as the fate of the world rests in the hands of your hero, leaving you with a difficult and dangerous choice to face at the end!

This is a terrific arc to play and you may even find yourself playing it twice just to see the alternate ending! I'm happy to give the arc this week's Dev Choice. Congratulations Flame Kitten! Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go fix up my hair with a giant can of hair spray.
  25. I, Dr. Aeon, come to you today to make a declaration.

For far too long, Television has held sway on the players of this game. It spouts slander of me, Dr. Aeon, and proceeds to lure the people of this great game into a false sense of security. It makes you feel happy, makes you feel delightful - all just a trick, I tell you! Television seeks to control your very minds! Would I, Dr. Aeon, dare to trick you like that?

My attempts to warn you all of Television's actions have gone, for the most part, unheeded, save for my two Aeon Dream Teams from Liberty and Freedom. They have been fighting the good fight, but they are far outnumbered. Which is why I must make this bold step.

Today, I shall begin a war of PROPAGANDA against Television!

But I cannot do this alone, dear forumites. I need your support!

Those of you may ask, "But Dr. Aeon, why should we support you?"

Firstly, why would you ask that question? Do you truly need a reason to support the great Dr. Aeon?

Secondly, I will give you a reason. Support me in this war on Television, and I shall get you Ultra Mode BEFORE Going Rogue!

Yes, take a moment to bask in that knowledge. Good to go? Excellent.

Now, some people may point out that I, Dr. Aeon, being in charge of Mission Architect as well as being one of the game's content writers, have no real authority in whether or not Ultra Mode is released before Going Rogue and in fact have nothing to do with Ultra Mode.

However, I am NOT a man to let such things as "facts" get in the way of recruiting more people to my cause!

So, forumites! Begin your postings against Television! Raise the flags of war! Spread the word against Television!

We shall wage this war until the end of Monday, February 8th!

If you do not do this for me, do it to get your precious Ultra Mode in before Going Rogue!
