Quote:You are taking some of the jokes too seriously. Although I personally, think they don;t go far enough. If we were to look at it from a Darwinian point of view, someone who sends a "hi sexy" tell to someone else in a game simply because they are on a female toon should probably not be allowed to breed for the good of the species.Though I understand it's a joke thread I'm still a wee taken back with all the petition comments all because someone called the other by sexy.
I certainly don't flip out or roll out the semi veiled insults because someone calls me hun and it happens more often I'd care to remember.
If it's really that troubling iRL to be called sexy in a game I would suggest :
A) - Don't make a sexy character.
B) - Make a male character (unless you're going to RP that character and the gender matters).
C) - Ask the person not to do so. Communication? Iz good.
D) - Too awkward to ask the person not to do so, or the person insists? Left-click, ignore, keep on playing.
I'm probably interjecting a sour note in a (I think) joke thread, but the reaction to a simple 'hi sexy' is disproportionate. A 'Hi sexy wanna cyber?' yes, all of those, though personally I don't argue with troublesome (read stupid) people, I just choose the D option.
Last weekend I was on my Col. Liberty toon (I have both male and female toons), a female who is completely covered in a Justice outfit, with a stars and stripes motiff, with the default sliders for Athletic build, and someone sends me a tell saying "mmmmm....Hi Sexy"
Now, maybe the guy had a flag fetish, I don't know. I'd have found it less creepy had he said it in local rather than sent a tell. At least in local I'd have taken it as RPing his character. Sending it in a tell my reaction is instead to feel sorry for the guy, but not sorry enough to demand mandatory sterilization for him. -
Quote:Those are compliments. After all, people wouldn't be saying that if they weren't jealous of your skills. Then again, what do I know? According to my rep, I'm "a straight up arrogant attention *****" that Paragon Studios will never hire because "why buy the milk when you get the cow for free"?

I'm jealous that you had time to ever do any of the videos you've done. I fooled about with it a bit after watching your how-to videos and quickly realized that I already have too many time-consuming hobbies and I don't dare start another one. -
People need to play their own game and leave me alone. Are you the color police now? Are you going to report me for choosing colors that cause epileptic seizures? When you start paying my $15 a month you can tell me what colors my powers can be. If the devs didn't want me to have green fire-breath, brown energy blasts, and yellow ice patches, they wouldn't have put those colors in the game!

Thanks to an extreme case of alt-itis, I rotate between 6 servers of heroes, Liberty, Justice, Guardian, Virtue, Freedom, and Champion.

Quote:While fine sentiments that I tend to agree with, it's not quite so simple as "live and let live".The same way I don't harass people who oppose farming, I expect people to not harass me for farming either. If I enjoy farming, and I'm not exploiting something in the game, then that's what I want to do. If the devs don't like it, they would deal with me on their own. But I won't listen to some holier-than-thou player who pretends to be a hall monitor.
Bottom line is, have fun. Enjoy the game the way you want to enjoy it. Stop trying to disturb what others are doing. If they are not breaking any rules, then you have no right to play "big papa" with them. Feel free to suggest. Feel free to guide. Feel free to express your opinions in reasonable, logical, and mature manner. But don't pretend you're above others. And last, but definitely not the least, THIS IS ONLY A GAME!
Are these points really so hard for some people to understand? Can't we all just chill out and enjoy the game the way we like to?
The problem is, it's a shared game. Everything people do affects other people's games. Reporting farms affects the farmers enjoyment of the game when their farms are locked. Making and running farms (both on AE and in the regular game) affects the play of non-farmers when the devs take steps to limit a farm or farming in general.
So, it will never come down to letting people play as they wish. The best you can have is to come to some sort of compromise, which would be impossible in a game like this and neither side would do so in any case. -
I'm all for this too. However, I'd be willing to bet that the devs have little control over the promotion of the game, which doing vids would come under. That's likely a separate department in NCSoft.

Quote:People don't say AE is not meant for farming, the official position from it's release is that AE is not meant for farming.Don't consider this as an attack on your argument or anything. I'm just bringing a discussion on the table.
People say AE was not meant for farming.
So you mean, if I see an arc in AE...ANY ARC...and I like it. For whatever reason. And I start to play it over and over again, in a very repetitive manner...
Do I deserve to be punished? Does the arc deserve to be banned?
This is merely an example of what the difference between farming and exploiting is. You can never stop farming. It always exists over EVERY ASPECT of an MMO.
Now, semantics can be argued over and over, but, the fact is that the people who create farming arcs and the people who run them know they are doing so.
So, it comes down to intent, which is not a good thing to make a rule over. So I'm not defending the devs for this rather nebulous rule.
The only reason I bring it up is because those who defend farming usually admit to farming on the AE or admit to creating farm arcs, and act like they're not breaking any rules.
Your last sentence is why I wouldn't help the devs police AE. I do think it's rather hypocritical, however, that the same people who want to be able to do whatever they wish in spite of the rules, feel the need to harass someone who wants to help the devs enforce them. (that's a general statement, not directed at the person I'm quoting) -
Quote:The start of I16 closed beta was also posted here with the start of a thread on it. Castle posted here also about the character creator.Issue 16 went into close beta; announced on Twitter by Positron.
Character creator blocked off to those not in closed beta; announced on Twitter by Babs.
Now my searchfu is severely lacking combined with defunct dev digest, I can't find this information anywhere on the forums that isn't linked back to Twittter. I'm probably jumping the gun here, but I'm not liking this trend.
Now, whether the info was posted on Twitter or here first I don't know. -

Quote:There is nothing that says AE farm = exploit, but, the I14 patch notes clearly state that AE is not to be used for farming, which is what people creating these farms continually ignore.Could you please point to the post or document that says that AE Farms are considered exploits? I was unable to find anything that said AE farm = exploit so if you know where it's at I would definitely like to read it.
Personally, I only have one beef with farmers on MA. When I search for a story arc, having to wade through a hundred thousand versions of the EXACT SAME FARM!!
Those are the ones I report, just to cull the list. Just because one farms buff NPCs have different costumes than anothers does not make it any different. Having the exact same map, exact same enemies, etc... c'mon people! I don't report them because they're farms, I report them because they're spam
If not for that, I couldn't care less at this point about AE farms. -
You also got negative reputation today, probably from the same thread, for claiming your unsupported opinion = proof, which I signed. That brings me to why I like the system as it is. If I neg rep someone like Tony, I can sign it because while they might decide to find something to neg rep me for in return they're not going to spam me, troll me on the boards, or spam me with PMs.
On the other hand, if I neg rep someone because they are a troll, I fully expect that without anonymity, they'll do any or all of those things, because that is what they're on forums for in the first place. Without anonymity it would not be worth the hassle to neg rep a troll.
Personally, I don't care one way or the other if they remove the reputation system. Given that it can be turned off, I don't really see any reason to remove it. You may still get comments if you turn off the indicator, but you have to actively seek those comments to even read them. -
Quote:What I find hilarious here is about our only use of metrics is bottled drinks. You get 2 liter bottles, but 12 oz. cans.....Metric is only evil if you have a succession of governments (such as in the UK) that will not implement the system fully and so you get a half-baked compromise where some things are measured in metric, others in imperial.
most things sold by weight are sold in metric. Most volume is calculated in metric (but you buy a pint in a pub, although spirits are sold in 60cl)
Distance is generally taught in metric, metres, centimetres, etc but roads are calculated in miles. Petrol (gas to you NA lot) is sold in litres, so trying to work out your fuel economy is a frikkin nightmare. -
The drop ships can be attacked, but, like giant monsters, not by a lone hero. There are numerous videos on YouTube that show groups of heroes taking out dropships.

I always thought the tongue-poking one meant you were poking fun, either at the subject, the poster, or yourself, depending on what you had posted.

I always thought that since this game is rated T for Teen, the word filter should add some profanity to every sentence you type. If I had talked the way these dang whippersnappers today do when I was their age.....
and get off my lawn! -
My memories of the Hollows "back in the day" are only fond ones in retrospect. Hovering across the length and breadth of the zone to a mission door and back, having a massive mob spawn right on top of me and kill me when I was running back to the entrance....those kind of things were not really fun at the time.
I do like the new Hollows much better. -
Quote:I've always understood the wink as meaning either what you are saying there, or as flirting, depending upon the context of the post (and the supposed gender of the poster). Not just him, I don't know if this is a US/EU forum difference you've uneartherd here, or if it's just me; but I've never interpreted a wink as 'flirting'.
To me it means more along the lines of: "what I just said may be taken with a pinch of salt, and may in fact be sarcasm or blatantly untrue" - rather like the wink you get from an uncle who just told you the moon is made from cheese... -
