  1. I go by servers. I have 6 servers of heroes, 3 servers of villains, and 1 mixed hero/Praetorian server (since the Praetorians will be heading blueside when they're done).

    Ha!

I think the "dam slow" part of the text is a bit redundant.

In the span of about 3 hours after midnight last night I came across 4 banner events, and only one of them had more than 5 people participating in the zone. Despite fighting at different banners, needless to say, they were never made vulnerable. The 4th one there were 8 people hitting all 4 banners and we did make the banners vulnerable, with about 15 seconds to go.

So, its more like a single team with the right mix of ATs than just any single team.

Now I'm not trying to say they need to make it possible for 5 characters to beat the banners. However, one possible tweak would be something like maybe the lead time between the beginning of the event and when the critters start appearing around the banners scales with the zone population. You can recruit full teams in the wee hours, it just takes longer.

I had no trouble on my L36 scrapper, nor on my uber-tanker (my L34 Storm/Ice defender; which gave me a huge laugh when some L40 griefer opened the door next to me and teleported away, and I proceeded to wipe out his mob).

My blaster, though had a hell of a time beating anything that came out of a door. I only had one trip to the hospital, but, after about 5 or 6 fights ending up barely alive at the end it was just too tedious to bother continuing.

Overall, I'm not impressed. The banner thing needs some major tweaking, given that if you play in the late hours I do, you may as well ignore it completely since you'll never get enough people together in a zone to take them out. And I've never liked the zombie apocalypse. It's interesting the first time you see it, but there's just no point to it. It's basically as fun as street sweeping and how many people do that?
  5. Now that the 5th column are back in the game, it needs to be tied to something other than early anniversary badges.
  6. I know how you feel, though, unlike you I can play for large chunks of time, I'm usually playing very late at night-wee hours of the morning and I hate being on teams that are just plowing through content so I can't even follow the story. While I can find teams, finding teams that are willing to slow down enough for me to follow the story is almost impossible

What I have found takes some of the tedium of soloing out for me is changing characters often (then again, I have severe altitis with 114 characters at the moment). Generally I play a character only while they have bars of patrol XP, so they level a bit faster.

Also, I will try to find a character's threshold by just changing one difficulty and run a mission. For example, change the difficulty to +1/1 level and see how well I can run that. If it works well up the difficulty to +1/2, and so on, until it stops being fun. I've found most characters in the teens (except my defenders) and higher can handle at least a little higher difficulty.

You might also try advertising in one of the server threads (if you only use one server) for like-minded people, likely to be on in the same time periods you are, who are understanding that you may have to keep popping in and out. That might get you some global friends as seeb suggested.
  7. Compared to the price of extras in most other subscription-based games, the previous super boosters were underpriced. Regardless, though, to me whether its worth it is about how much of the pack is useful. While I use Secondary Mutation and occasionally zap someone with Mystic Fortune, they had zero impact on my buying those packs. Ninja Run is the only "power I couldn't live without" that has ever been in a pack.

In the end, its all about the costume pieces, because while I might use an emote when I'm bored, the costume pieces are what I will derive hours of enjoyment from when I clothe and look at my characters. While it is solely my opinion, with no facts to back it up, I think this is also true of most people who buy these packs. The additional content is just fluff with limited use.

So, I think $10 is a suitable price for this pack, if you're going to make use of most of its content. It's worth more to me than the Science Super Booster, which I've ended up having almost no use for anything included in it. I'll be buying it.

  10. The reason for the signed NDA is perfectly obvious. They're finally ready to convert the game to the "Golden Age" engine.
  11. I've never replayed an arc, since there are still tons of arcs I've not played. I use AE specifically because I'm tired of replaying arcs, so with 116 characters, I never play dev content below level 20 anymore. Like others here, the sole exception is my own arc, both to keep testing it and because I haven't found a good 1st level arc yet.
  12. I've played many MMOs as well, though none for anywhere near as long as this one, and I never have found one where you don't start out relatively weak. That is a necessary component of gameplay, IMO. If you start out powerful, then what are you building towards? Why bother getting to L40 if I can take on just as many bad guys at L10?

I do agree that travel powers, regardless of the band-aids that have been put into place, not being available until L14 is silly. Not a gamebreaker, but very annoying. Rather like capes not being available until L20.

A true comic book simulation would get boring very fast, IMO. Although, for me, I have no 50's because I get bored with the lack of any real perceived progress of my characters after L40. If the game was changed to make you feel more powerful at low levels, I'd likely never get a character over 20, and soon quit playing altogether.
  13. If you feel like playing with a lowbie character, you can tell me off about the arc in my sig. Its designed to be started at 1st or 2nd level.
  14. I think they need to take drastic measures and make culling arcs their first priority. When, more often than not, hitting the random button 10 times results in 10 old farm arcs, it tends to put off people who are new to AE looking for something to play.

They need to put every arc, except for HoF and DC, into limbo. Retain their rating and plays but remain effectively unpublished until the author republishes them. It will mean some good arcs whose authors are gone will be lost, but, right now AE is infected with a cancer and some of the healthy tissue has to go with the bad. This seems the least time intensive solution for the devs to my mind.

I doubt, unless circumstances create another farming rush, that future arc culling would be necessary once the damage from AE's launch is dealt with.

Afterwards they can start looking at HoF requirements and making the search engine better.

As for post #244, let's not be literal to a fault; the entire gist of the post is plainly an argument against adding more end-game content, because everyone will become tired of it in five minutes flat... or some such nonsense. Oh wait.... we will become tired of it in "two months," my bad. Subtlety or nuances? Looked like a broadside anti-endgame argument to me. To wit:

"I can't speak for everyone, but I would rather have a smaller amount of GOOD content than a larger amount of pointless crap any day of the week."

End game content is "pointless crap"? Whatev.
It helps if you read the sentence BEFORE that one that made the point if they had worked on both neither would be any good. Then again, I suppose taking statements out of context are the only way you can support your own comments.

That reminded me I do have a second character with 2 builds. An empath defender that is heavy on heals for team play and has nothing that doesn't affect her for solo use.
  17. I'd like to see the PvP changes rolled back just so I can go into the PvP zones and get the shivans or missiles without having my powers go all wonky. Given the hours I play, there were never anyone in the zones prior to I13 and I enjoyed hunting some enemy groups there just because the scenery was new as well.
  18. Since GR launched it seems like everything hits me. Last night I was hit 7 times in a row by a boss with a 48.something chance to hit me. I'd swear the game cheats except that I've gone through missions with barely a hit as well, it's only when I'm being hit over and over again that I start checking the combat logs.

It seems to me that the RNG is not as random as it should be, though. Because if I notice extremely bad luck I'll see it when I go over the combat logs with every mob in an entire mission. If I have extreme good luck (and I notice it), it will likewise be present in the entire mission.

108 Characters. Only one uses a second build and that's just because I like knockback on my SS tank when playing solo, but its not so great for playing on a team.

And I certainly don't need a freespec for each build. I rarely use the one we get, and I think only one of my characters has ever used my vet freespecs.
  20. I have to say I hate GR. For me, after 3 years straight of playing, the game itself is the same. It is immersion into the lore of the game, and being able to follow the journey of my character that makes the game fun.

To that end, revamping the existing cities would be far preferred (and I'm only speaking for myself here) to creating a whole new world. I can't really get into playing my Praetorian, especially when I realize that he will soon abandon his homeland to be a hero or villain in another world entirely, forever (at least until higher level Praetorian content is created) leaving the world he has been fighting for behind.

Worse, with the devs saying they intend to expand Praetoria it sounds like Paragon City will remain static. I think they would have been far better off to advance storylines in the existing cities, or even adding a new city of super-beings to Prime.

To me, Praetoria is rather like having Star Trek change its focus midseason to a mirror universe crew and abandoning the original premise. It's interesting for a couple episodes but I wouldn't want to watch the series featured there.

Seriously, it would be fine if running away had some purpose to it. As it stands, there is no game function for it except to annoy and frustrate players. The to-hit function provides more than enough frustration without running away adding to it.
  22. I haven't done any of the old missions yet, but the tip missions do seem ramped up in difficulty. Playing at just +1/x0 is giving me purple bosses.

And sorry to rain on your parade, but it's always fine and dandy when people come on the forum screaming how much they love the expansion and people agreeing with them, but as soon as someone mentions what they don't like... oh no, that's just wrong. They're just trying to be negative and bring the game down. Well news flash. There's always two sides to every story.
People mentioning what they dislike are treated fine and dandy. People claiming that what they dislike is a reflection of most people, or that only the "diehard CoX fans" like a particular thing, as you did, are kicked in the teeth as they deserve.

You want to air your grievances then don't infer that you're speaking for a majority without hard facts to back that claim up.
