    Idun says Hello!

    Hi Everyone,

I've arrived in the BLASTERS thread! Greets to all!

  3. We are a highly active SG that really loves Base Raids to help keep our edge sharp as we await the return of Items of Power to the game! When Base Raids were active, we would always gladly attack, defend, or both, either in single rounds or in back-to-back Raids. We run Raids from just a few persons up to full 16-on-16 massive, sprawling battles.

    SG Name: Earthclan Elite
    Server: Guardian
Top-100: Currently ranked 1 of all Hero SGs on Guardian
    H/V: Heroes
    Raidable: Yes
Player Amount: Average 10-20 on Weekends, 5-15 Weeknights
    Contact: @Doctor Vivian or @Kinimp3

If you are on Guardian and interested in Base Raids, don't wait for them to come back to CoX before you get in touch! Send a /tell -- let's get to know each other now, so we can introduce your SG/VG to our other Base Raid partners on Guardian and we can be ready to kick things off in style when Base Raids and Items of Power return to the game!

I strongly recommend against it. There are two reasons AGEIA stopped making and selling their PhysX-100 card. First because CPUs were getting so fast that the card wasn't making much of a difference. Second, because the card would make a lot of machines unstable, with an increased incidence of crashes and lock-ups. I should know, I had one. It only gave me about 5-8% more FPS in the PhysX demos versus CPU alone, and I can't tell you how many times I would lock up and crash right in the middle of missions in CoH.

Not to mention there's not a whole lot of Physics content in CoH anyway! Blowing up cars? Rare. Falling leaves / branches / ATM money / letters / garbage? The CPU does just as good a job, with no lock-ups or problems. I eventually got rid of the PhysX-100 card and never missed it once.

I don't know about the others, but we at Earthclan Elite on Guardian have most definitely kept up with it.

Many groups, in the wake of Issue 13's turning off of Raid Pathing and bounding box collision for Base objects, have chosen to make use of these relaxed constraints in redesigning their base layout and have broken the earlier Raid Pathing that was in place.

Operating on the assumption that restoring Raid Pathing or some variant of it will necessary to ensure access is provided to Power, Control, Anchorpoints, etc., we have retained full Raid Pathing, and maintain a highly Raid-Ready base for when Base Raids return to the game.

  6. Name: Earthclan Elite
    Server: Guardian
    Leaders: @Kinimp3 & @Doctor Vivian
    Player Type: 21+ Month Veterans
Number of members: Bursting at the Seams
    Current member levels: All
Time of Gameplay: All Day, All Night, Lowest Ebb at 3-6 AM PST.
    Web Site: www.earthclanelite.com

Earthclan Elite, currently the #1 Ranked Hero SG on Guardian, is looking for Heroes that are on as much as the rest of us are, and who are just as excited about everything COH, from TFs to PvP, AE, Ouro, Trials, Base Raids and more!

To become a part of Earthclan Elite:

    1. You should be a 21+ Month Veteran. While there are rare exceptions made for highly active, intelligent and friendly heroes in the 12+ month range (just win us over, we're not ogres), we usually only recruit 21 month or more veterans. We're not here to hold your hands and teach you how to play CoH. If you're going to be a member of the #1 Hero SG on Guardian, we expect you to know what you're looking for, what you're doing and to be able to pull your weight while having fun.

    2. You must be on a lot, at least several times each week, if not every day. After all, everyone else in the SG is! Slots are limited, and if you're part of this SG, we need you to be here with us every day, not off playing other alts or not online at all. We do Accolade Runs, Costume & PVP Events, Cathedral of Pain Trials, Task Forces galore, lots of fun Flashback Missions, AV Arcs, AE Mishes and Rapid Radio Missions! Come join the fun with us every day and night! There's warmth, camaraderie, beer and skittles for all.

    3. You have to be mentally mature. Keep your language reasonably clean and courteous, both in and out of PVP. Remember, you're a superhero, not a dock worker!

If you fit the above specs, right now is a great time to consider joining Earthclan Elite!

To join, send an in-game /tell to @Doctor Vivian or @Kinimp3 for a base tour, to join a team and to discuss becoming a member of one of Guardian's most active SuperGroups!
  7. Even if the Sybil costume isn't made available for player use, maybe some of its elements could be?

Among other things, I think a belt sash that had physics like capes would really be nice.

Kind of like Jean Grey's costume.

The only good thing of having a larger server population, in my mind, is being able to find the AT's that you need to form teams in a wider range of hours. But that does no good if those people don't know how to play! Hee hee.

I've always found that good, veteran players usually all have several 50's of many different AT's, so if you can build a good team, they can usually swap out and put together whatever combination of powers you might want.

There's also nothing wrong with playing Solo. You don't -have- to team. You can take things at your own pace, as slow or fast as you want. It's all about having fun! And if you can have fun doing things Solo, it doesn't matter what server you are on, or who else is on it!

Believe me, it's better to have 300 great people on a server than 5,000 idiots. Take, for example, the US servers with the largest populations, such as FREEDOM. It is filled with people that most good players have absolutely no desire to team with.

Annoying people, irritating people, frustrating people. People who think CoH is a Dating Sim. Etc., etc.

It is always quality over quantity, I say.

I've always found EU players very creative and intelligent. But don't feel bad about the low population -- it is not the number of people that matters, but the quality!

If I wanted large populations, I would be on Freedom, but I have made my home on Guardian -- simply because the average intellect of the people I encounter is higher. They tend to be more into the game, and better players in general.

    Hooray for quality over quantity!

    Hi, ExXen --

I've found it's not always the amount of money that's important.

It's also recognition! Good costume designers need and deserve praise.

Not to mention it's a great chance for them to meet, chat and swap ideas.

We put out a lot of money because this was our once-a-year giant celebration.

Next year it may be 5 Billion in size, if we become the #1 Hero SG on Guardian.

But large or small, Costume Contests are a lot of fun!

    Hi, ExXen!

I think that is true of everyone all over the world, not just French people.

Who wants to try to speak another language when you're not comfortable with it?

Also, if you make a mistake, you feel embarrassed. I've seen it all over Europe and Asia.

But that's okay. I have my college French, and I'm not shy about making mistakes.

Besides, we're all Heroes together here, that's exactly right!

    Hello, Freeman!

Hee hee, that is very true, when I visited Calais everyone wanted to speak English with me to practice.

I always find European players very smart and polite when they come and visit the USA Servers.

I thought to visit the Forums and practice my language skills!

I am a huge fan of Base Raids (pre-Issue-13) but I also like to talk about everything CoX!

  24. Hi, Kyengen!

I'm not really sure why you think anyone from EE would send you angry messages -- we actually appreciate your feedback very much!

These are some very helpful suggestions -- we always are looking for ways to make our events better, and that's why we love to get long reviews like this one.

Some of your suggestions (such as segregation by category) had already been discussed. It would probably be good for me to explain the rationale behind our final arrangement, and also some of the challenges of smoothly judging the event -- not to defend it, but rather so that you (and other interested readers) can see where the discussions went that led to the final layout.

The reason that we decided to not separate contestants by category was simple -- it was so that each person had multiple chances to win. If we were to segregate contestants, each person would have a lesser chance to win a prize.

Sgt. Taylor Jones, for example, was quite astonished to win the "Sexiest Male" Category in the Costume Contest. He hadn't been going for it at all.

Similarly, there were very few contestants vying for the actual description of the "Best Casual" category. So the judges fell back on outfits that could pass for non-heroic looks. The winner of the category, E'lan, was garbed in a fashion that he could be attending a State Dinner or High Society ballroom event -- while not "Casual" as per the dictionary definition, he was not garbed as stereotypically as most of the other Heroes and Heroines were, and you wouldn't expect him to be stalking the streets in search of Hellions. I would like to think in this instance that the Judges made the best call from among the assembled heroes and heroines that they could.

There were also very few Comedic contestants this year -- but among them, McPeaceBringer's stood out to the two Category Judges as the most amusing -- clown phobias aside.

In the case of "Best Non-Human", I personally thought that there were quite a few good contenders this year, among them a giant lizard-man who was particularly impressive and closely vied for not only "Best Non-Human" but also "Most Intimidating". For the winner, the Judges stated that they felt that although Fire Kinetic was humanoid in shape, he was clearly not human, so he qualified. The closeness of his motorcycle-jacketed appearance to Ghost Rider was not discussed with me, so I don't know if the Judges had a big inner battle over it or not. I know they were weighing several close contenders.

The judges all had a limited amount of time to carefully review and evaluate the contestants and their bios. We kept it locked to 30 minutes to make the process smooth and to help prevent the crowd from growing bored (the door prizes, trivia game and the many related 1-5 Million Influence prizes also helped in this regard).

To speed the judging process, we set it up that each pair of judges had ultimate authority over their Category. SG Leaders did not overrule or suggest alternatives to them. Each team was encouraged to carefully discuss and weigh the merits of their chosen candidates as best they can between each other and only ask for outside help if they can't reach a decision between themselves. This helps a lot -- we've found that people tend to not make frivolous decisions when given responsibilities like this.

While two judges is a good start, I hope that next year we will be able to have three judges per category. The more people we have that together can agree on one category "look" being superior to all others, the more universal that decision will be. Of course, getting 30 SG Members all on at the same time is the challenge -- you usually need to plan for 40 to have 30. Our Secret Identities often intrude.

Again, thanks so much for taking the time and effort to write the above comments.

I hope you will come and be a part of our planning meetings for next year's big event!

Don't feel bad about not having water cooling. I also thought it would be good and looked into it for my computer -- I found out a lot of helpful info.

Unless you're overclocking your CPU, and making it put out more heat than the chip normally does, you don't need anything more than the standard CPU fan and heatsink that comes with the processor. Even a top of the line Quad-Core Extreme Edition running at the highest available stock speed is fine out of the box with its default fan.

All those high-priced TEC Chillers, Water Cooling Systems, etc., etc. have value only if you're overclocking and running your CPU in the red and thus need that extra cooling power.
