This is the bug I'm talking about:
Can this be fixed so there's less clippage? -
The Victorian and Steampunk Corsets on females with the new Steampunk pack clip right through stuff like the Magic Bolero. Can this be fixed?

Quote:My point was more that it felt like they were being overly defensive about it by announcing it and having to place that disclaimer.See, that's silly to me.
I have characters who are A-holes. Selfish pricks, drunken misanthropes, judgmental bastards, and sanctimonious uptight pains in the neck.
The problem with this?
I also have characters who kill people by trade.
I even have characters who kill people for fun.
Is this to be taken as an indication that if I could do so in real life instead, I would? -
The tag that always raise my eyebrows is the ones saying something to the effect of "Character is an [BADWORD!], player is not" or "Character is racist, player is not." Etc.
It always feels like a suspiciously specific denial of your behavior, like you're using the character as an excuse to treat people in ways that in the real world would result in you having A) no friends and B) no teeth, and not expecting people in-game to, I don't know, punch you in the face or treat you like you're an [Censored by the Committee for the Protection of Wee Little Ears]. That you're doing this to people who routinely solve problems with massive amounts of violence is also a bit perplexing.
The more space people spend defending and explaining it (I once saw someone use half their bio space on the topic), the stronger I suspect that it's a player taking advantage of the fact that I do not yet own an Internet Strangling Machine. But that's my take on it. -
We have a popular crowd? O.o
As for some concepts or whatever not working out or getting in... yeah, that happens with RP groups. If you're applying "John McSkullcrusher" who wears black trenchcoats and jeans everywhere to a theme-centric group that leans towards, say, classic comic book heroes, you'll probably be rejected because it doesn't fit the team. It might even be a fine, interesting character with a good costume and intriguing backstory that you can RP incredibly... but doesn't really fit the team's theme.
While I've seen people who insist that they are the uberist of the uber (they've usually got sarcastic comments by me in their player notes, and inspire snickering when Carnies or whatever feed them their capes), never really run into groups that make you acknowledge that Character Whatever is THE best. That's just... really odd.
In general, you've got to be proactive with getting involved. A pet peeve of mine is the attitude of sitting back and going "Gimme RPs!" (with little grabby hands) while never actually contributing themselves, but demanding other people bend over backwards to work them into the story. Sitting around waiting for other people to notice you isn't going to get much. -

First off... HAVE FUN.
Don't worry too much about getting The One True Build. Experiment a bit, ask questions, and don't obsess too much about optimizing or getting the maximum performance build. CoH is a surprisingly forgiving game and the vast bulk of the content quite accessible to anyone even if they're not interested in IO set bonuses and just stick to generic IOs or even Single Origin Enhancements.
There's no real "bad" combination of ATs or powersets. Some get better synergy than others, true, but just about any combination of powers can perform well. Choose what sounds fun and fits your concept. That said, not every AT or powerset may have a playstyle that fits your own, and this is fine. Experiment a bit.
Healing is, for the most part, less important in teaming and big fights than buffing and debuffing. Support classes are more about force multiplication than keeping up the green bar. For example, while Empathy is about half healing powers, it is not a healing exclusive set. It's also got some of the most powerful defensive buffs in the game.
Trick Arrow is a good support set. There is no such thing as "Healing Arrow."
Take advice, heck, anything from the forums with a grain of salt and feel free to do your own thing. People like to complain, and everything causes wails of DOOOOOM. Ignore the Doom and don't feed it.
Ask for help, suggestions, whatever. People are for the most part quite willing to help out with advice or giving you a hand with something, so long as you're polite and literate. If you're looking for an SG that fits your style, ask around. Being a n00b is not a crime. Being a jackass, however, will make you few friends. -
By the looks of it, Steam Jump fires you at closer to a 45 degree angle, though my guess is it works on a similar principle: you jump and you keep going at that angle until you release the jump button... which is pretty fun, really.

Quote:If you want to get the most money with the least fuss? This is a game, sort of.
Assume you're the lead super-villain in a large criminal organization, what steps do you take, or avoid, in order to be as perfectly, efficiently evil as possible?
Go legit. Sell your super-tech on the market. Make a fortune from your amazing power sources, new medicines, and other inventions, and charge an arm and a leg for them (especially your cancer cure). Nobody breaks into your house anymore, and you screw over far more people than you would being a conventional villain, and now you have an army of lawyers and accountants to make sure that anybody who messes with you doesn't have a cent to their name.
If you've got super-scientists, legit is way more profitable and has less hospital bills.
But that's boring. -
Quote:This cannot be! I am invincible!Remember: If dying during the monologue -Yes, I know it's impossible/inconcievable/incomprehensible that you could die. Just pretend for the sake of argument that you're vincible.- If dying during the monologue means you would lose, it's too early to monologue.
(of course now defeat is inevitable :P ) -
Exactly. Any idiot can have a bunch of power and break stuff and hurt random people. That doesn't make you a super-villain, it makes you a thug with power. Being a villain has a touch of bizarre performance art helped along by typically about ten tons of egomaniacal narcissism and peculiar tastes in fashion. Going on a rampage in a shopping mall and attacking the citizenry is just tacky and dull and a waste of your power and time and better suited for a couple stupid kids who liked guns and Doom a little too much.
Getting away with the perfect crime where nobody knows or even suspects you did it? What's the point in that? Nobody knows you did it. Heck, they ("they" being your heroic counterparts) probably think your perfect crime was committed by some other villain, and it's infuriating to know that that airhead is getting the credit and glory for your hard work. You go through all the trouble of stealing the Unobtanium and now Flambeux is getting her name in the papers for it? No way. You'll show them all how it's really done.
And then there's that hero. You know the one. To be fair they make your life a lot more interesting and the work more exciting (police are boring and to be brushed aside)... but yeah, you want to get one over on that guy too. Just to say you did. And you'll be awesome doing it.
The best villains, even when they lose, do so with style. They're almost admirable, or at least have traits you could admire. They're the dark mirrors to heroes. Without that... they're just bland and mundane, petty thugs and not villains. -

There's villainy, which is basically what everyone said, and then there's supervillainy. The difference is performance. I enjoy the latter a lot more.

Quote:I actually always pegged Statesman as closer to Golden Age Superman levels in terms of what he can do. While he's absurdly strong, he's not juggling planets or moving around continental shelves, and very powerful weapons can stagger or hurt him. The CoH setting in general is relatively lower powered than Marvel or DC.I love this stuff. I see Statesman in the "Marvel-Vein" of being a "class-100" strength, on par with Gladiator or Hyperion , where as the Brawler is more at the Thing's 80 ton range. Synapse seems to be faster than Quicksilver, but not as fast as the Flash. Of course, Manticore is Batman and Hawkeye all in one and Sister Psyche is Marvel Girl and the Invisible Woman (mostly Marvel Girl).

Might as well throw a few of mine in the hat! Loving your art.
Bejeweling (earth/fire dominator with magic volcano powers, a magic belt and a cheesy German accent)
Reanimistress (dual pistols/rad corruptor mad scientist gunslinger)
Econaut (plant/storms controller with blue skin, goggles, and a giant plant that doesn't eat people (honest!))

The lag seemed to really spike up later in the night. It'd been bad at first, then a handful of us moved to Atlas 2, which had a fairly light population so lag was minor. But then I think other people got word that Atlas 2 wasn't so bad, so we suddenly got about a dozen or twenty new people coming in that shot up the lag, and they started forming leagues... which just brought new lag. I think. The leagues do seem to contribute to lag.
In Atlas 2, we were facing multiple copies of all the big Praetorians. So at one point, I was fighting Bobcat, Bobcat, Neuron, Neuron, and a Goliath. All Giant Monsters. Another time, I spotted at least four Black Swans on City Hall, as well as multiple Battle Maidens, etc. Wonky, but fun.
I think in retrospect what would've helped a lot is pre-forming the zone shards so people can spread out a bit, and maybe getting the portals up before the attacks so people spread out through the zones instead of all rushing to one point. The initial crush of everyone running to Talos or where ever just smashes everything. If you can get people spread out enough to all the zones, and get people spread out within the zones, it's alright. Also, too many Giant Monsters at once can cause issues.
Maybe I was lucky in finding a relatively lightly populated area with a bunch of friends. I do think that's the key to enjoying this: find an area that's not crowded with swarms of players and where players spread out. The fighting in Atlas 2 stretched from City Hall to the sewer entrance.
On the balance, once the lag died down and I calmed down, I had fun. Being with a bunch of friends (it seemed like a good bulk of the people in Atlas 2 for a while were SG or coalition-mates) made it enjoyable and compensated for the bursts of lag.
I do hope the devs got some good data on how to improve the systems from this, and learned more about event running. I still think the zombie and Rikti attacks were a good system for this all though. -
Okay, once I came back and went to Atlas 2... I had a lot of fun. The lag had died down with people scattered around more. There's just this really hellish first hump of lag.

Just logged off Virtue in disgust. This sucked and was extremely unfun. Here's my experience: redname announcement appears. EVERYONE rushes towards that spot. Trains stop running. You get there. And either all the enemies are dead before you see them because of the other 100 people that swarmed in, or you die instantly because of the extreme lag making your powers not fire. At all. Push button, no powers fire. Nothing happens. Well, I don't do anything. That Victoria there, on the other hand... it gets to do plenty.
Seriously, I respect you guys... but please, please NEVER run an event like this ever again where the "event" is just the GMs and mods and such bouncing around spawning random hordes of baddies/giant lagbombs. It's not fun, doesn't feel epic, and just feels like we're chasing you guys around just to get sent to the hospital when we get there.
Why can't we have stuff like the Rikti raids? Those are epic and exciting! This... this is just not fun at all. I'll log back in when it's over. -
Just logged out of the Virtue invasion in disgust. Here's the event: GMs and mods bounce around invisibly, spawn a handful of baddies... and either they get shredded before you get there by the three hundred people who swarm in there, or you get killed because the lag is so horrific your powers arn't firing and you cannot actually see the enemies. This is assuming you can get into the zone, since the trains are barely running.
This is SERIOUSLY UNFUN. This isn't an event, we have no opportunity to do anything or feel epic. This is follow the bouncing rednames and get lagstomped.
Why couldn't we do something like the Rikti invasions or Zombie attacks? Those are fun. Those feel frantic and epic. This... this is just the mods running around spawning guys and stuff. Please, please, PLEASE never run an event like this ever again. Run events that are fun. I was all psyched up for this... but this is it? This sucks. -
I figure it's that and they just want to put the servers and new setup through their paces. Look at the timing of the Praetorian events. They want to cram as many people into the servers at a time and then they're going to watch their datamines very closely. This is really the only way they can find out if the servers can stand up to this kind of punishment.

Quote:By normal performance I mean it ran fine. There wasn't lag. By "normal" I don't mean "BAF Prisoners level lag" I mean that if you turned your graphics down, it ran fine. It's the Leagues.Hmmm... normal performance in MSR has been the same as what I've been experiencing in the BAF for at least 6 months. I can't say when it got bad, all I know is, I did them with a 50 and everything seemed to run smooth, I created a new character and played that for a while, decided I needed some more v-merits and could not believe the slide show I was treated to, and this was some time before the release of i20, could have been after i19, not shure.
So it ain't just the league system.... -
Quote:Null is the Inedible, Uncrushable, Indestructible Gull. Immune to catgirls, golems, and lasers. But sadly, not rednames.Haha... That is awesome.
I am sad that Null is no longer with us.
I get the feeling that some cat-girl-scorned, half-demon/half-vampire, sulking alcoholic rogue with a good heart, but troubled demeanor, cooked him up for dinner. -
Looks like the devs are narrowing in on the problem. That's good to hear.

Similarly, pull the logs of RWZ3 on Virtue from about 6pm EST to about 8pm EST from Sunday, May 1st. That's when our mothership raids were. When we ran it with a League, it was horrific lag with powers simply not firing. When we broke the League and just did individual teams, we had normal performance.
