I'm going to quote a reply I made to a similar post about the developers not listening to us. (It's six months old so it's not completely up to date.):

Virtually everthing in the past several issues have been features that players have been asking for. They may not have been implemented or addressed exactly as some thought they should be, but they do seem to be listening.

It seems 'doing whatever you [the devs] want ' means giving us what we've asked for.

I'm sorry the OP lost some AE badges, but I lost them too ... and one more the OP didn't have: Dev's Choice. I'm sorry if the OP had to pay for both COH and COV box sets at the the beginning of the franchise (at least that's what I think the OP is meaning); I did too -- for 2 accounts. Nevertheless, I find COH pricing plan -- free issue updates -- is not only compatible, but superior to the typical paid expansion plan. (The free issues is a big reason I stay with the game.) And I'm sorry if the OP didn't get total complete color customization ability for everything the OP wanted; I'd like to color my human-only Kheld's powers, too, but I'm still estatic about the customizing options we did get and know that future additions to color customization are in the works.

I'm guessing the OP was really interested in fixing base raids, teleporters not so much (particularly as MLEdelen started a Base Raid thread seven minutes before this one in this same topic area), just as the "No More Martial Arts" thread was really a plea for a flame form body type for his fire controller. There seems to be a pattern of asking to remove/nerf an unreleated game feature as a means to fix get a game feature the OP wants. Rather a Underpants Gnome feel to it all.

    Any New Updates?

    Quote:
This companies deft skills of tantalizing and stoking interest have always, always been utterly pathetic.
    • "Anything been mentioned or announced? Like tidbits or hints to anything down the pipeline?"

    • "I'm jonesing for something."

    • "All they got to say is one word about the new update and knowing us lot . . . . . . we'll all go mental about it for weeks"

I'd say there's a fair bit of tantalizing going on just in this one stoked interest thread alone, so what ever it is Paragon's not doing, it seems to be working. (And the coveted junk emails you've received about Brand X's hero game seem to not be stoking and tantalizing-- by your own "game I hate" admission.)

  6. When do I like to walk? Let me put it this way: I'd completely forgotten they'd put Walk in the game until I saw this thread.

That being said, I'm glad folks who wanted Walk got what they wanted. It was a nice "we listen to you" gesture on the Dev's part.

  9. Question #1: Assuming that I CAN one-shot the minions, take out the Yellow Ink Man first. Mobs tend to range attack first, so his ranged sleep is the immediate danger. It will take a moment for the Green Ink Man to close to melee range for stun. Second target is the Sorceror, since until he's out of the way, there's not much point in endlessly getting the Green Inky down to a sliver just in time for a teleport-heal from the Sorceror.

If I CAN'T one-shot the minions, Sorceror first.

Question #2: Embalmed Cadaver first. Get at least one point damage so I can claim his self-destruct as a "kill" for my badge. The Murk is going to be a long drawn-out battle no matter what I do at that level, so 1) wound the Embalmed (don't bother to polish him off but jump back from his kablooie), 2) take out the Morty, 3) survive a protracted battle with the Murk.

Not many super heroes use crossbows in the first place (I can think of at least 3 heroes that use bow and arrow off the top of my head but none that use crossbows)...
Personally, I would very much like to see crossbows as a animation/custom weapon variant of Archery/Trick Arrow rather than it's own character AT, but you're essentially correct: there aren't many crossbow-using hereoes. There are some, though. Just for the record, here's a few off the top of my head:

    1) Swiftarrow, a largely forgotten Golden Age character. He had a couple different costumes, the latter one with a cape (presumably he made level 20 before he vainished into comic limbo).

    2) DC's Huntress (she used the pistol bow type of crossbow at least in her early appearances in the '70s -- couldn' tell you if the modern Huntress uses them)

    3) Hawkeye (or 'Awkeye as he announced himself in his Cockney accent) -- the original incarnation of the archer in the Squadron Supreme used a crossbow in his first appearance. He'd later change his name -- Marvel must have ran a name purge during his first hiatus.

    4) Hawkeye .. or rather Clint Barton in his 60s-70s Goliath period occassionally used a King Kong-sized crossbow to practice with to keep up his archery skills. Nevermind it's a different skillset. It looked cool.

    5) Chewbacca, if you count Marvel's Star Wars as a super hero comic book.

    6) And of course, the grand daddy of all archery heroes, Willam Tell.

Crossbows haven't fared so well in comics I think because as a visual medium, drawing back a longbow is much more dynamic visually than cocking back a crosssbow. Howver, the trick arrows of comicdom actually have their historical factual roots in crossbow bolts. Medieval crossbow archers used a wide variety of specialized bolts (blunt tipped for stunning fowl, hollow bulbs for shooting flaming oil, etc.).

  14. Problems with non-unique names: Ugly/unweildy if tied to global etc. Confusion and/or griefing if not tied to global etc. Several aspects of the game might have to be redesigned (/tell commands, size of LFT team screen columns).

Problems with unique names: Players may have to be somewhat original in coming up with names.

Of the two, I'll take the second set of problems.

My original account (now defunct) straddled the two name purges while I was over in Iraq. I lost a grand total of one name: the lame moniker "Baron Skull" for my lame Skeletor-homage throwaway character. Simply added a "von" in the middle when I had to rename. After a dead computer and a lost CD key, I started my two current accounts from scratch in November of 2006. Even giving those dirty bad nasty "been here since Beta" greedy name campers a few years headstart, I've had no trouble getting names I've wanted. On a couple rare occassions, my first attempt was taken; my subsequent names have always beem more statisfying.

Upstream, a poster talked about not being able to get "Black Jackal" or any reasonable combination thereof. A couple minutes of name checking came up with the following available names on the two most populated severs:

Freedom server: Jackal Black, Midnight Jackal
Virtue server: Dark Anubis, Sable Jackal

I didn't bother with the smaller servers and I stopped at two viable names each. Admittedly, Virtue with its name-savvy role players is a bit harder for names, but certainly not too terribly difficult. (Personally, I'd much rather have Dark Anubis than Black Jackal anyway, but that's personal taste.)

  16. Bill,

Bravo on your opening post. A most cogent discussion on Peacebringers. I switched to human-only Peacebringers in part for many of the points you've articulated. And I readily agree: fun though I find them to be, Peacebringers could use a boost to put them on a par with Warshades (not to mention VEATs).

You initially suggested a damage boost, and while this would be nice, I think it muddies the water with the Nova's damage specialty. The current suggestion seems now to be -Res rather than -Def on attacks.

    Might I suggest something else?

Here are the parameters as discussed in this thread:

    1) Dwarf form's specialty is Resistance
    2) Nova form's specialty is Damage
    3) Human form's specialty should be something unique to the other two forms
    4) Peacebringers should add something to the team
    5) Khelds should be jack-of-all-trades, not quite a tank, not quite a blaster, not quite a scrapper
    6) Cottage rule: no replacing powers (minor alterations as per past dev changes allowed)

and I'd add my own parameter:

    7) Change should be thematic and explainable in game terms.

My suggested change for a Peacebringer specialty would be this: Endurance.

    • Peacebringers would start out with a bonus amount of total Endurance points, say 110 points instead of 100.
    • Add a +Recovery aura of 8% for each human-form shield type for a total of 24% +Recovery with all three shields running. Aura radius distance would be similar to Shield Defense or SoA team bonuses. No slotting for additional End Recovery. It's a fixed amount. Bonus doesn't function while the Peacebringer is mezzed.
    • Cosmic balance would stand as is.
    • Work in the discussed -Res instead of -Def attack effect change, but only for Nova and Dwarf form attacks. (I'm not quite sold on this discussed -Res change, but include it here as a possibililty.)

    This fits the parameters thusly:

    1) Dwarf form is still your +Res form.

    2) Nova is still your +Damage form.

    3) Human form now has a unique specialty... giving +Recovery to the team (and self), allowing it scrap/blast for still significantly less damage compared to either other Kheld forms or standard ATs, but longer sustained combat.

    4) One of the reasons SoA are popular are the team bonus auras. This change replicates that. Human form Peacebringers will add something to the team: +Recovery, but an overpowered bonus. Like everything else, you're not quite a Kin. The amount is less than half of Speed Boost. It's a constant bonus (as long as the shields are up and the PB's not mezzed), but it's a radius so that not all the team will be boosted at the same time. It's split up with the three shields so that it takes a significant amount of endurance to run for full effect and it requires three power choices in the already notoriously tight Kheld AT builds for the max +Recovery effect.

If you add the -Res replacement to Nova/Dwarf attacks, the forms would also add to the team as well.

    5) Peacebringers would still be jack-of-all-master-of-none. In addition, these changes wouldn't overshadow any other AT sets. Bonus Base Endurance would not perform Regen or Willpower, and the +Recovery of shields would not outperform Speed Boost or AM.

    6) Cottage rule holds. The +Endurance points change initial stats, not a power. Fiddling with base AT stats has been done before. The +Recovery aura addition to an existing power is not too dissimilar to the additional powers given to existing Electric Armor or Energy Armor powers recently.

    7) This change is thematic and explainable in game terms. Humans are the most compatible hosts Khelds have found. More of their internal energies can be processed and used by the human host better than any other planetary race. This is reflected in the glowing eyes discharge of excess energies. We can even transmit some of that excess power to others nearby. Humans have evolved to be generalists, not specialists; it's our species' strength. Hence, human-form Khelds can blast like novas, melee and resist damage like Dwarfs ... only just not quite as good.

I think these changes would address the problems discussed in this thread, would make the Peacebringer unique and valuable to teams, boost it to a par with Warshades, and fix a problem Peacebringer have of lacking Warshade's multiple +End recovery attacks for Endurance management. These changes would be usable solo as well as on a team, a plus in my book.

melee toon chasing KBed mob and bring more aggro etc
and I rarely seen team never broke after 4-5 wipe like that.
Sounds like the problem here is melee toon movement not being suppressed enough. Let's let the team member -- or, better yet, any team member with knockback powers -- be able to choose to supress all melee toon movement or not.

Or maybe, change run forward to run backwards, just so they don't move towards next group with taunt aura blazing.

I know running around the map during combat is important for that "Hero Feeling," but unfettered melee toon movement is just harmful.

  20. From the original fan-written "Vicarious Existence" article the second poster in this thread cited as the start of all this :

    Quote:
...I do see a large risk to Paragon Studios if GoRo doesn’t pull in the numbers they’ve told management it will.
That's all you need to read of the aritcle to decide not to take it very seriously. The article's author has no more idea what numbers have been "told" than you or I or the Man in the Moon. Or that ANY number was "told." Unless, of course, that author possesses some super Joe Biden secret ninja skills with a side order of Chuck Norris telepathy.

This is all just the author's imagination. From that little imagined acorn, the author's grown his whole oak tree of an article: Some GR performance number was arrived at and/or promised. so if that number isn't arrived at, DOOOOOOOM!!! Goodbye not only COH but Paragon Studios ... even NCSoft West!

Boiled down, the NC Soft respsonse was: that's not how we do businsess, that's not the way it works here. Here's some examples why. Pretty staright forward if you ask me. What else do you expect them to say? "Get out of your parent's basement, kid, and get a life!"?

  21. • Peacebringers can fly at level 1 in Outbreak tutorial = Fun!

    • Peacebringer eyes glow when they fly or punch or blast = Fun!

    • Peacebringers can blast AND punch AND have shields = Fun!

    • Peacebringers have pretty glowy globular force fields = Fun!

    • Peacebringers can blast and punch and while protected by pretty glowy globular shields that cause their eyes to glow = Fun!

    • Peacebringer make an annoying tuning fork sound effect with every glowy-eyed action they take ... okay, so this one's not so fun...

    • Did I mention glowing eyes?

My human-only Peacebringer is my most-fun-to-play character. She can blast and punch, whichever I need, and has the defenses to survive. Number-wise she may not put out quite the raw damage of my top scrapper and she's prone to getting mezzed, but she's not a glass cannon like my blasters/blappers, either, and playing her in solo combat doesn't feel like I'm watching paint dry like it does with my defenders, controllers, or tanks.

For me, playing her is the closest to playing a "real" comic book superhero ... blast! zap! punch! zowie! force fields! fly! ... that COH can offer. AND her eyes glow!
