Quote:I've already found it useful for my fliers in tight areas like caves. Bumping my head and trying to navigate while grounding myself with flight is pretty irritating. Now I can just use NR to stick to the floor and still be able to move fast.one thing i havent seen comented on yet in here is, that with NR you can get around the annoying probs you have with TP in smaller areas./
one of my toons has been using TP forever and i dont have the power slots to get a seond travel power and sprint just dousnt cut it when you are trying to keep up with a fast paced group. when the place is to hectic for TP
NR has given me a versitle means of getting around in these place so i can keep up with the group without trying to navigate tunnels and such with TP, as its fast enough to keep up with all the other travel powers there since most peeps gotta go slower in the complex areas them selves -
Just a quick note, but CJ gives almost no defense bonus. And if you were devoting those slots to get more speed and such before, you might consider shooting for some cheap IO bonuses that will apply all the time, including when using NR.
+2% run speed - 2x Stagger (Stun)
+2% jump height/speed - 2x Springfoot (Jump)
+3% run speed - 2x Maelstrom's Fury (Ranged Single Target)
+3% run speed - 2x Kinetic Crash (Knockback)
+4% run speed - 2x Regenerative Tissue (Healing)
+4% jump height/speed - 2x Unbounded Leap (Jump)
+4% jump height/speed - 2x Edict of the Master (Pets)
+4% jump height/speed, run speed - 2x Siphon Insight (Accurate ToHit Buff)
+5% run speed - 2x Aegis (Resistance)
+5% run speed - 2x Ghost Widow's Embrace (Hold)
+5% jump height/speed, run speed - 2x Performance Shifter (End Mod)
+5% jump height/speed, run speed - 2x Force Feedback (Knockback)
+5% jump height/speed, run speed - 2x Gaussian (ToHit Buff)
+6% jump height/speed, run speed - 3x Winter's Gift (Universal Travel)
+7.5% run speed - PROC Gift of the Ancients (Defense)
In theory you could put those two slots to good use and get a nice boost to make you move even faster. If you have other defense powers, you could add extra slots to those and use the Ancient IO to get a full +22.5% run speed. Or if you're more into jumping than running, there are quite a few easy ways to get those too. -
Quote:Another less subtle one I used in another thread: If I approached the guy who checks my electric meter to insult him and say wasting time when he could be fixing my air conditioner, he'd probably call me an idiot.Another analogy I've used is "who do you blame for patient records being made public in a Hospital? Records department, or the cafeteria (both of which are vitally important, cause you don't want that doctor working on you with low blood sugar!)?"
Because frankly, the lunch lady has no impact on the Records department's procedures. -
Quote:They're also working on the positioning of dual pistols, shield with no weapon, and some other animations. It's pretty nice to hear that, considering they don't really HAVE to do anything for pistols, and shield is okay how it is. It's nice to hear though that they're putting forth extra effort to make it as good as it can be.Heh, no kidding. At least BaB's said in the other thread on this he and (Sexy)Jay are looking into this deformation and stuff, which is another thing I like about this team.

Quote:Let me make this easier for you.How about they fix existing costume bugs instead of wanting me to pay for new stuff?
Obvioulsy trying to hit me up for more money is more important to them than fixing a bugged game that they already have my money for.
We're making a house.
Positron is the manager. He looks over everybody and makes sure all jobs get done.
War Witch is the architect. She makes the blueprints and decides what the house will look like.
pohsyb builds the house based on the blueprints. He places the building materials and hammers in the nails.
BABs is the painter of the house. He makes things look pretty.
You're saying all the devs that have NOTHING TO DO with fixing bugs should drop what they're doing and fix bugs instead. You're saying the painter, and the manager, and the lady that makes blueprints should STOP doing that and go rebuild a wing of the house. You're saying that BABs, instead of painting the parts of the house that are done and correct, should somehow redo the kitchen cabinets.
It's not his job, nor does he necessarily even know how to fix bugs. His job is completely and utterly unrelated to the thing you're telling him to do. If we were to stop production on everything else until bugs are fixed, probably 90% of the devs would be sitting around doing nothing. Bugs would continue to be found and fixed at the exact same rate that they're being fixed now. The only difference is that everyone else on payroll isn't doing anything now.
There's plenty of stuff for BABs to paint while the garage is being fixed. -
Well, I gave a big list on page one why buffs like FF may or may not rub me the wrong way. None of them really apply to regular attacks. You may give that a look to see if you can figure it out. I'll admit I don't fully understand why I hate upkeeping buffs (or pets like Voltiac Sentinel). I just know it's not a fun mechanic.

Quote:Ah, but it's because of his Natural Kryptonian physiology that his cells react to yellow sunlight as such. If you've followed the numerous stories of Superman throughout the ages you'd know that once he comes in contact with red sunlight, he immediately begins to lose his powers.
I always figured that the science origin permanently imbued you with powers, such in the case of Spider-Man or the Fantastic 4. Spidey doesn't need continued bites from radioactive spiders and the FF doesn't need continued exposure from cosmic rays to maintain their powers.Quote:Science is, very much implicitly, someone who is altered by a scientific experiment, be it intentional or unintentional. In SuperMan's case, this isn't the case. He has a natural reaction to our sun which doesn't give him powers, it merely unlocks his powers. An apt comparison would be if a human underwent meditation to unlock the "true potential" of a human and became able to fly. This wouldn't be magic just because meditation has a vague magical connotation to it, it would still be natural.
SuperMan's powers aren't given to him by anything. He is just unable to access them under certain conditions.
There are even some heavily ambiguous origins. How much technology does it take to cross the threshhold from natural to tech? A full-on mech suit would be a tech origin, but wielding a pistol isn't, is it? So where's the line? And if you're a magical creature like a genie that naturally has magic powers, is your origin natural or magic?
I won't go too much into the Superman origin debate because I don't want to derail this thread. But I will say that even with what you guys said, I still disagree. I can see it from your point of view and understand the reasons you give for it being natural over science, but I still believe that it would be a science origin. At least, by the way that I define it.
The good thing about the origins though is that they ARE open to interpretation, and there's really not a right answer to any of those. Superman's origin doesn't necessarily fit into CoH's system, and if it does, could be one of a few different things depending on who you ask. -
I would actually consider Superman's powers Science. If he was on his home planet with everything normal and "natural," he'd have no powers. It's our sun that gives him his abilities. It'd be like if humans went to some distant planet and the gasses in the air gave them super strength. I wouldn't consider that Natural. He doesn't just have his powers, and he didn't train for them. Some outside source reacts with him and gives him those powers.

Quote:It's slower than SS, and you don't jump as high as SJ.So, how's the travel speed on Ninja run, then?
Is it really super speed + super jump, or a scaled down, slower version of each without air control when jumping?
If it is possible to have an effective travel power at level 4, it would probably be worth $10, at least to me.
However, consider you get both benefits at once. If you take SS, you don't get vertical. If you take SJ, you can't run. Also consider you get it for free at level 4. It has no prereqs. It's also faster than fly if done right. I have it up over 60 MPH on my Widow. Someone else got the run speed up to 74 MPH.
Essentially, it's not as good as SS or SJ. But it's better than not having a travel power. It's fast ENOUGH that it's a viable alternative in some situations. I dropped SJ on my Widow because I could. I made a new DB/WP that will probably just rely on NR because it's very good by itself.
Plus:
And yes, I plan to keep pimping those pics until they stop being cool. Which doesn't seem like it'll happen anytime soon. <>

Quote:Look at it this way. CO couldn't have beaten CoH to anything without first copying the idea to make an MMO about superheroes, which CoH did first by like 5 years.Quote:One problem.
Champions Online beat you to the idea by 5-6 months
Either way, less work for everyone. -

Quote:From that pic, you're pretty right. I searched Google forever and couldn't find what I was looking for. Who knew "goku running" would result in porn? But I digress. The DBZ reference isn't true really, at least not for Goku. He pumps his arms as he runs, but he holds his hands in "chop" motions instead of fists. He fights a ninja in the original Dragonball series (when he's a kid) who runs like that, though.
The characters don't "run" that often in the series. But when they do it's usually an arms-back type thing like what it looks like to run backward with the Ninja Run. Especially young Gohan. They mix it up and do other stuff sometimes depending on what the animator felt like doing that day. -
I think it's pretty clear that Walk is related to their work on Ninja Run. It may well have been done as a test, or a warmup, or for debugging. Or just something BABs did in his spare time. Or to show the new guy (cause apparently another animator did Ninja Run) the ropes. And either way, I seriously doubt it was a significantly large amount of time taken away from anyone's schedule.
If the devs have free time between their normal tasks, I'm sure they could spend it twiddling their thumbs. I imagine a lot of people expect them to just dive right into something else and get to work on something "important" even if they aren't scheduled to. I think it's nice to see that the devs work on things like this when they have some free time. Not only does it show a dedication to the game, but shows that they enjoy what they do.
So if I had to choose between hearing complaints about "lazy devs who never do anything," and hearing complaints about "devs wasting time on stupid things," I'd rather the latter, because at least that shows to me they still enjoy working on the game. -
Quote:On a few occasions I've paid for 3 months at a time, and I've never been instantly awarded a vet badge. You sure about that Leech?
It actually says "paid" time. Well, that's what it said the last time I looked.
*EDIT: Yeah, from the latest announcement here:
Tier One: City of Heroes Veterans with 60+ months of paid time. (bolded by me)
The screen will tell you when you get it. It'll say something about your account being playable through February, and you get your next vet badge in January. -
Quote:Seems to be a problem with buying a US code for an EU account, or vice versa. You need to contact support.Any of you guys having trouble applying the code from the booste pack once bought ?
Every time I try to add it to my account I get this message
You can't use the supplied serial code.
The supplied serial code is valid, but it can not be used to create a new account and it can not be applied to any accounts you already have.
What am I doing wrong ?
I wanna be a ninja to -
Quote:I think the power is just fine. It does what it appears to be made for. It's a free travel power. I've seen people complain about the end cost, or that it suppresses, or that it doesn't stack with SJ or SS. But if any of those were changed, it WOULD be too good.Honestly I think the Devs know exactly what they're doing. I've wondered for a long time when Robotics was going to get nerfed, but it's still as sick a set as ever. I really think it's working as intended.
What it is right now is an SS/SJ substitute that, because it's free, isn't as good as those things. It costs high end and isn't stackable because it's not a replacement for Sprint, but rather for SS/SJ. As it is, the power isn't as good as taking a real travel power, but it's better than not having one at all.
Considering anybody in the game can get a jetpack for free at level 5 and use that, having a free run/jump travel power seems perfectly fair and balanced. -
